    KINMEDAI - goldeneye snapper
    Michelle L.

Phenomenal. Impeccable service and incredible food. We were slightly early to our 6:00pm reservation on Friday and were warmly welcomed in and seated at the bar. Though no one was outside, they observed we were approaching and someone opened the door from the inside without us having to lift a finger. The entire restaurant is very dimly lit- in the main dining room the only lights are directly above the omakase bar and in the kitchen so the background seems to fade away in the dark. Very intentional and very well done. We were seated at the bar upon arrival and ordered the Oze No Yukidoke Okarakuchi, a dry sake. The Kikisake-shi came over to tell us all about the different sake varieties and helped us select a bottle based on our preferences. The best part, and perhaps the highlight of the entire experience, was getting to select my sake cup. They brought over a tray with about a dozen different sake cups of varying heights ranging from glass to ceramic. So fun! They started us off with a tofu dish- the tofu itself had a richer flavor than your typical tofu and was wonderfully creamy. Next was a gelatin-tomato noodle dish. Light and refreshing! I loved the variety of the preparation of the tomatoes as well as the gooseberry. The third course was a fish dish- and no surprise, also delicious. Next was this custardy egg dish. I liked the corn on the bottom, but the mushrooms were the star of the show. An indescribable addictive flavor- rich, umami, not too salty. It was fun watching the chef grate the wasabi, and I particularly enjoyed the cubed ginger. Moving on to the nigiri, everything was super fresh and absolutely divine. My favorites were the anago and the uni hand roll. Our additional dishes, the abalone and the foie gras were brought out between the nigiris. The flowers on the foie gras were beautiful, and I unexpectedly enjoyed how they paired it with red bean. Abalone was solid- I liked the liver sauce and loved how they presented it in the shell. The chef was amazing- he accommodated my dad's request for less rice in his nigiri- and provided a warm presence for the duration of the meal. For dessert, there was first a spongy shrimp cake followed by a sesame icecream finished with a miso-caramel, rice puffs, sesame seeds, fried cubed sweet potato, and bean powder. The icecream was paired with a green tea which was more potent than your average green tea. The tea and icecream were truly show stopping. The ice cream was almost buttery and the sweet potato cubes tasted french toast-like, somehow transformed beyond recognition- I had to ask what they were. My dad, who has diabetes and typically doesn't eat dessert said that this was his favorite dessert. He also drank ~5 cups of green tea. The meal ended with a matcha chocolate and a gummy. My favorite dish was the ice cream, followed by the unagi, and gelatin tomato noodle. However, everything was delicious, exquisitely prepared, and gorgeously presented. Service is phenomenal. Food is phenomenal. This restaurant is fully deserving of its Michelin star. My dad has been in the restaurant business for 50+ years and had no complaints which is unheard of. Everything was impeccably executed. Reservations were slightly tricky to get given the restaurant only seats 14 in the main dining room and only does 2 seatings per night (the only additional seating is their private dining room which seats less than 10 so ~50 people max per night). Side note: I also enjoyed the traditional Japanese toilet and the unscented hand soap is another detail Mujo has taken into account. They gave us a sealed plastic bag with our unfinished sake at the end along with a menu and tea cloth to take home. Overall, I cannot recommend Mujo more highly.

I was home visiting family and friends, and decided to check out the Atlanta food scene again. It's been a while since I've been in New York for a minute now. I was surprised walking in because it felt like I was back in New York. The ambience and food were amazing. Looking forward to coming back again in the future.

First bite. Tartlet with eggplant, miso, and Asian pear. It was hard to hear/discern the Japanese name.

We had a great time at Mujo. The food, drink, and service were outstanding; excellent quality with an incredible attention to detail. That said, as someone who has been to a lot of comparable restaurants I give Mujo "only" four out of five stars. Relatively speaking, I thought the overall experience and value was good, not great. Mujo opened on February 16, 2022, next door to popular Basque restaurant Cooks & Soldiers. They're part of the same restaurant group with Double Zero, Sugo, and The Iberian Pig. All good restaurants. Mujo is located on street level of the Cottonwood Westside apartment building. The low-key storefront/entrance faces Howell Mill Rd. Enter from 14th St for valet parking. Unfortunately, during our visit on a Wednesday night, the valet lot was full. One of the valet guys suggested parking across the street at The Interlock. Instead, I parked across the street inside the Westside Provisions District garage. The WSPD garage is less expensive and about the same walking distance to Mujo. I paid $6.50 (rate for 2-4 hours). Mujo's claim to fame was earning one of Atlanta's first Michelin stars in October 2023. They retained their star in October 2024. Mujo releases reservations at 10am on the first of every month for the following month. For example, on February 1, you can book reservations for March. I did the booking for our party of four on the third of the month and there were still several times available. Mujo does two staggered seatings per night: (1) 5:30 and 6:00pm and (2) 8:30 and 9:00pm. The dining room seats only 15 people, at a wraparound bar/counter. There's also a koshitsu (private room) that seats five or six guests. At the time of writing this, the koshitsu offers a "seasonal" omakase experience at a higher price: $275 per person. In our reservation confirmation email, Mujo wrote: "Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy our private craft cocktail bar prior to the sushi bar seating, time and space permitting. This intimate 6 seat bar is reserved for sushi bar guests only." All four of us arrived no later than 40 minutes early to take advantage. It was fun. The bar is tiny, though. Below is a list of what we had. If you order any temaki supplement, I recommend one temaki per person. The hand rolls here are small -- the smallest I've seen anywhere. For the omakase items, I added more detail than what the printed menu showed based on what I heard from the staff as they served each dish. Cocktails * Pendennis Club ($22) - not on printed menu * Silent Bishop ($24) - Alipus mezcal, yellow chartreuse, rabarbaro (Italian for rhubarb), ginger, lemon, egg white * Hojiso Highball ($24) - barley shochu, shiso syrup, lemon, soda, preserved plum * Tanabe Club ($23) - Cognac Park VS, Old Tom Gin, umeshu, kabosu, vanilla, Peychaud's Bitters Seasonal Omakase ($245 per person) First Bite * Tartlet with eggplant, miso, and Asian pear; hard to hear/discern the Japanese name Zensai * Mushroom Ankake - grilled matsutake mushrooms, local hakurei turnip, seasoned dashi glaze, shavings of (indiscernible) * Buri Daikon - wild yellowtail grilled and glazed with kabayaki sauce, braised daikon; radish and ginger on top * Chawanmushi - savory steamed egg custard, celery root, seared Hokkaido scallop, gin-an sauce, chives Otsumami supplement * Kegani ($65) - Hokkaido hairy crab, tosazu, mozuku Nigiri Sushi - made and served by our assigned sushi chef, Grace * Shima Aji - striped jack * Kohada - Japanese shad * Sawara - Spanish mackerel * Aji - horse mackerel Temaki supplement * Uni Temaki ($28) - Hokkaido uni, cucumber, shiso Otsumami supplement * Foie Gras Monaka ($29) - persimmon, shiso, Japanese wafer * Sanma - pike mackerel * Miso Shiru (miso soup) - served halfway through sushi portion of omakase menu * Kamasu - Japanese barracuda * Tsumuburi - rainbow runner * Toro - fatty tuna * Uni - sea urchin Temaki supplement * Negitoro Temaki ($25) - fatty tuna, wasabi, green onion * Atsuyaki Tamago - my piece was made with whitefish because of my crustacean allergy; standard version made with shrimp * Hot green tea Dessert * Roasted Sesame Ice Cream - miso rum caramel, satsumaimo, puffed rice Final Bites * Muscadine yuzu puff (?), campari nectarine mizuoka (?), white chocolate matcha ganache with coconut - I put question marks because it was hard to hear/discern The main differences between Mujo and most of my other omakase experiences: 1. Loud music and less intimate vibe. It's certainly a chance of pace; a lot more Westernized. 2. More of an "omakase by committee" rather than being tended to by a single chef and one or two servers. There were several sushi chefs, each assigned to a group of customers. 3. Least filling. Even with supplements, I wasn't completely full afterwards. Usually, I'm bursting at the seams after omakase. 4. Less personable and more pretentious. We felt like just another number being churned through a system (a very nice, well-coordinated system).

We had an amazing experience at Mujo! Their Michelin Star is well deserved this place is truly a hidden gem. Finding the restaurant was a bit tricky since the sign is so tiny, but once inside, we were warmly welcomed. We had a 9 PM reservation, arrived a little early, and were seated at the bar while we waited. The bartender was fantastic! I told him I didn't see a drink I wanted on the menu, and he offered to create something special with tequila and passion fruit mind you, I don't even like passion fruit, but this drink was perfect. Not too strong, not too sweet, just right. I also appreciated how detailed he was; he carefully brought down all the ingredients and crafted the drink right in front of us, which isn't something you see often. Once our table was ready, we moved to the Omakase area and were greeted warmly by the staff. The service was top-notch they even pulled out our seats and made sure we were comfortable. David was our chef for the night, and he was incredible! Super knowledgeable, about each fish. He explained how some of the fish are prepped and dry-aged, which was fascinating to hear. Watching him slice each piece in front of us was such a treat. Unlike other places, he made each nigiri one by one, ensuring we ate it at the perfect moment while the rice was still warm. I honestly can't remember all the types of fish we had, but every single bite was phenomenal. The best quality fish I've had in Atlanta! If I had to pick a favorite, it would hands-down be the fatty tuna (Toro) it was the most buttery, melt-in-your-mouth Toro I've ever had! A close second would be the horse mackerel, which completely surprised me. Normally, I expect mackerel to have a fishy taste, but this one was sweet and savory, absolutely delicious. We also got the caviar add-on, and wow it was perfectly paired with the warm toast and that incredible butter (I need to know what butter that was!). Every bite was perfection. Overall, Mujo delivers an immaculate dining experience, and I highly recommend it. From the service to the drinks to the Omakase itself, everything was flawless. If you're in Atlanta and looking for an unforgettable meal, this is the place!

Exceptional omakase dinner with high end sake' served in stemware. The timing of the meal was perfect, no lag time in between courses, and the portions were good. It was a thoughtfully planned and executed meal including the toasted sesame ice cream for dessert. I enjoyed the atmosphere and music, as well as extremely attentive service throughout.

Went here for my 25th birthday celebration! My first Omakase experience which also happens to be a Michelin Star restaurant. It is $$$ experience ofc. Valet only and in the heart of midtown. The restaurant itself is small but beautiful. Simple and elegant design. A very authentic experience. The service was immaculate. There is staff on the floor throughout the experience to answer any questions and to clean up. They were so nice that I asked for a Coke (yes I know) and they got it from next door. The dishes were well curated and we had a wonderful chef who served us each piece of nigiri by hand. Each with a different flavor profile. The dessert was chef's kiss. Why I deducted a point is because it wasn't the best food I have ever had. It was unique yes, but the food was very mediocre. I would not pay that price again for the food I got. I highly recommend for a unique experience!

Nice sushi chef, and the fish was all very fresh. Wasn't anything mind-blowing, but it was a really good meal.

Perfection. The price tag is worth it. The Omakase experience is something I love and cherish and this place just does it right! I absolutely love it here and I will continue to be a customer and a fan! Mujo is by far my favorite Omakase spot in Atlanta!

I've been hearing that this place was amazing so I gave it a try even though i thought the pricing was over the top. Mujo is located in Howell Mill Rd next to Cooks and Soldiers. There's valet in the deck that's right across from Interlock, in the same building as Mujo. They do free coat check for you as soon as you walk in and they help you push you in on the chair, like an actual omakase spots in NY and there was about 20 bar seats and about 5+ chefs preparing and serving you. I thought the hot foods were amazing start. It infused French sauces and they selected all the ingredients that are hard to mess up like scallop, cod, and fried Asian pumpkin. For the nigiri, the texture of the fish was great but lacked innovation as it came with the same exact sauce every time. Towards the end, everything just tasted the same. Please integrate wasabi, salt, or other sauces. Also, please do not ruin tomago. It's a simple ingredient and yet they give you a bland egg bread. For someone that can't go without sugar, I took one bite of the dessert. I would recommend getting a pastry chef. I know they were trying to make a fusion mattang but it wasn't that great along with the sesame ice cream. Overall, Castellucci group has another great restaurant under their belt but the meal cost me more than the 3 stars Michelin omakase that I just had in Tokyo. While it is one of the top omakase spots in Atlanta, definitely overpriced and I'm not sure that I would be back. Also, please stick to one genre of music. Since you're going for the clubbing vibe, I would stick to the music that's playing in the restroom or stick to classical. It killed the vibe when the songs went from r&b, pop, and then country. As many of other reviwers, I wasn't a huge fan of being herded to eat my food by the staff members in the back either. And typically, staff do not carry on a conversation right behind you in other omakases. Reservation wise, you have to set your calendar at 10AM on the first of the month to grab a spot through Resy or check back for any last minute cancellations.

This restaurant deserves to be Michelin star! Truly the best restaurant in Atlanta. I would like to begin by saying the services was exceptional!! Everyone is very attentive to your needs, they hold fresh conversations, & the services just makes your experience so enjoyable. Seating is very small, I think it's aprox 14 people allowed during 1 sitting. You have the opportunity to speak with the chefs. I didn't get a chance to take much pictures because 1 dinning is very intimate, & 2 I did not want to take away from the restaurants menu. Their menu changes often therefore the pictures I post probably won't be there again. The food is sensational! My boyfriend and I are very big on flavors & texture. The food met every single taste bud requirement. We also left very satisfied. We added the snow beef to our meal, which I highly recommend. This place is very pricy, but it's definitely worth it. My boyfriend & I agreed we would make a yearly visit here. This is probably one of the best restaurants I've experienced in my life time.

Last week I finally scored a reservation at the intimate, 20 seat, @michelinguide Mujo in West Midtown. The unparalleled omakase experience comes with 3 Zensai, 10 sushi courses like Japanese barracuda, miso soup, delectable dessert, and a beverage pairing with an array of tasty sake, wine, and cocktail pairings to add on if you chose. On top of that, they have a list of amazing add ons and a large cocktail, wine, and sake menu you may try a la carte. Here's more about my meal: Zensai: Included some delectable dishes like my favorite the Hata Sakemushi that's the best piece of grouper I've ever had then topped with a sensational cream sauce and peas. I wanted to lick the bowl. Also really liked tempura mushroom with burnt eggplant and squid ink, as well as the warm custard with soft white asparagus and ramps. Sushi: The fish they selected are incredibly unique like fluke, seabream, or spotted knife jaw to name a few. They're super fresh and my favorite was the almost creamy and fatty toro, the goldeneye snapper, and I have to tell you about the Japanese barracuda! Earthy and charred! I was excited to try something new like this! Dessert: Roasted Sesame ice cream that's creamy and topped with rich and boozy miso rum caramel and puffed rice. Beverage pairing: 7 different beverage tastings that including a sensational Seikyo sake and a surprising Smith Madrone Riesling out of Napa Valley that drinks like a voignier! Add ons: I got two add ons and they were both upscale delicacies! The foie gras was creamy and topped with biter and sweet jam on top and floral arrangements in a puffy crunchy shell that is to be eaten like an ice cream sandwich. Waygu hand roll is two very meaty, charred, and rich meat rolled up with accoutrements in seaweed. Cocktails: The celery and gin cocktail was one of the best I've ever had! The celery infused gin was perfection. They vacuum seal the celery to bring out the flavor and it really is earthy, and herbaceous. The staff waited on me hand and foot and knew everything about the menu and beverage pairing to a T. They were impeccable!! I will admit it is pricy, but it is about the experience.

Well done edomae style sushi. Very expensive, so definitely plan for it to be a real splurge date night thing. Service is excellent, all the staff were very attentive. The Omakase course consists of 3 Zensai (Appetizers), 10 Nigiri Sushi, and Dessert. Miso Soup comes in part way through the Nigiri course. Some green tea is provided as well. There are some add-ons you can request as part of your Omakase course, each costing extra from Tsumami (Snacks), Hand Rolls, and drink pairing courses. Everything was prepared with the utmost care, except one piece of nigiri where the rice fell apart. Hence, the one star reduction. Was it the best sushi I've had ever? No. Was it a great experience, yes. That being said, there does appear to be very high potential here and I can see why it's popular. It's been awhile since I've been to either Hayakawa or Umi, but those two still stand out as my favorites in ATL for Sushi Bar / Edomae style omakase.

I wasn't sure how all the flavors would come together, but everything surprisingly worked so well. Next, I ordered the Langoustine Roll with pressed rice. At first, I didn't think I was going to like it, but it ended up being sooo flavorful and incredibly easy to eat. If you have a smaller mouth like me, you don't have to worry about making a mess because the sushi was so soft and practically melted with every bite. Of course, I had to order their Casanova Roll since it's what they're best known for, and it definitely did not disappoint! It was on the sweeter side with plenty of sauce, which was perfect for my palate. Now onto the Miso Steak. I ordered it medium, but some bites toward the end were more well done. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything special either, so I personally wouldn't recommend it. Overall, I had a great experience here, but I do think the food is overpriced. Also, be prepared to squint a little at the menu because it is very dark inside!

My favorite sushi in Atlanta hands down. Been here 10 times or more (not joking). I'm worried that…read moreif I tell too many people about it, they'll get too popular and possibly raise prices. Law of supply and demand. But given the elevation in quality of life this establishment has provided me with across the years, I feel I owe them some good marketing through a review. If there was a sushi coefficient of freshness, quality, quantity, and cost, this place wins everyday. C= (Fr*Q*q*c) Fr: 9 Q: 8 q: 10 c: 10 C(Yokohama)= 7200 Don't get me wrong - the competition is fierce for delicious sushi (Fudo, MF sushi, Nobu, all the Omakase scenarios popping up in town). What this means is the cost (c) is way too high, giving it a low 1-5 in the equation. Also, quantity (q) is low, about 4-6. So, the resulting coefficient is very low overall. From my understanding, the fish here only comes from Japan, so it's good stuff - and they really load up the rolls (a lot of the time), and they have this deal on weekend for special rolls (25% off I think). So you do get the quality, quantity, and decent price (about $12-15 per specialty roll). The regular rolls are good too, and loaded with fish. E.g. spicy salmon/tuna. So, if you're looking to go crazy on some good sushi without restraint and without breaking the bank completely, this is your spot. family owned I believe, very nice and efficient service. Cozy/casual, not too fancy, but feels comfortable to dine in. No delivery unfortunately on any app, but that makes quality control better IMO. Thank you for your attention to this manner.

What a great deal - my friends and I decided to check it out and we had a great dinner. Servers were attentive and the food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the Samurai Roll, as well as the Chicken Karaage appetizer. The chicken was sooo good - perfectly, lightly fried with sauce to dip. Tender and flavorful! The Samurai Roll was substantial and I appreciate the generosity of the roll. It was topped with salmon, and usually when rolls are topped with fish, it's usually a pretty thin slice of fish, but these slices of salmon were quite thick in my opinion. The pieces of sushi themselves are also fairly thick - it was a big bite for me to eat each piece in one. I made a reservation in advance and the staff already had my table ready even though I was a little early. The table was already dressed with menus, chopsticks, and some small plates/sauce dishes. Love it when restaurants are on top of it!

Service was solid, and my favorite cocktail so far is the Black Lava. I will swear by (not just vouch for) the truffle salmon appetizer, and my favorite hot option is the baked lobster tempura. Gotta keep it real for a moment...bringing a large group there can be a tad more complicated, so plan accordingly. I would recommend it more for intimate occasions and gatherings. That said, there are plenty of paid lots surrounding the restaurant if you can't find street parking, so at least that part is easy! I loved my experience, and I can't wait to return.

That said, locals recommended it, and I usually love sushi as a post-flight meal since it's light and fresh. The ambiance is dreamy, and I really appreciated the attentive service and bar seating. I ordered an avocado ball with caviar and spicy tuna, which was lovely and beautifully plated. I'd also seen a foodie Instagrammer mention their off-menu crispy rice rolls, so I gave those a try. Unfortunately, they fell a bit flat for me. I ended up adding a lot of soy sauce since they sincerely lacked flavor. When the bill came, I realized this probably wasn't the best choice for a quick, light meal. The prices were comparable to California, but the quality didn't quite match. That said, the person sitting next to me mentioned she visits often and felt that the night was a bit off, so I'd be open to giving it another try next time I'm in town.

Like a lot of other omakase places the restaurant was a little hard to find since it's pretty much just a door with a small sign and a couple of windows. The service there was phenomenal and I loved the variety for dishes! We had the 17 course meal for $242/person after taxes and tip, which was a little expensive but seemed fair for Atlanta. We started with some apps and my favorite was the oysters. Then most of the courses were various nigiri and ofc my favorites were the fatty tuna and eel. I also really liked the uni even though I usually don't! The presentation for everything was gorgeous and some of the sushi was pretty unique with the flavor pairings. Dinner ended with a small sorbet as dessert and my mom and I were both stuffed. I'll definitely be back for a special occasion :)

After researching…read moremany omakase restaurants, I chose Omakase by Yun because my first visit there was truly memorable -- and once again, they exceeded all expectations. The 15-course menu was a masterpiece from start to finish. Each piece felt like art -- stunning presentation followed by incredible flavor. Every bite melted in my mouth, and the balance between the rice, the fish, and their special secret sauce was perfection. One of the highlights was the Kimi Oboro, prepared using a 200-year-old vinegar technique -- simply remarkable. My sister loved every dish, even falling in love with the pickled ginger! The service was outstanding as well -- two servers took care of us throughout the evening, always greeting us with genuine smiles and impeccable manners. This was probably the best omakase experience I've ever had -- and I've had over a hundred. I'm so glad my sister's first omakase turned into an unforgettable memory. Huge thanks to everyone who served us last night. Highly recommend this place to both first-timers and seasoned sushi lovers alike!

Service was on point, the classic cocktails were fabulous and the celebratory champagne was cold and sparkling! Umi has an extensive menu and can be quite overwhelming. They don't tell you this policy until it's time to settle the bill, but they do not allow you to split the bill more than five ways regardless of how many are in your party . Which is a unreasonable company policy I believe! Everything was tasty and well prepared . Although when I asked to take a couple of things that were left over home, they refused to allow any food to be taken home raw or cooked! This is another unreasonable company policy. I think the highlight was the lobster Tobo Yaki which was the lobster served over a grill at your table The atmosphere is very lively and loud and it was difficult to hear each other talk. Our server was accommodating, but not always easy to get a hold of. I would consider coming back again, but possibly being more conservative and just have an intimate dinner for two. If possible lol
