We had some time during a layover and ended up at One Flew South, and fed very well. All sad airport foods of the world should feel ashamed. 5 stars for sad airport food as baseline. The waiter immediately asked for our flight time & gate. Looked like he'd do his best to accommodate the timing. We shared a few sushi rolls: hamachi, kamikaze, and eel, plus a seaweed salad. Everything was really fresh and well done, especially the hamachi and eel. Nothing felt heavy or sloppy, just clean and flavorful. We also had a gin cocktail and a Pinot from Monterey, and both were solid choices and paired well with the food. This is one of those places that makes you forget you're eating in an airport. If you have a layover at ATL and some time to sit down, it's absolutely worth it. It's located in the middle of concourse E. The train makes the concourse commuting quite easy. read more

My coworkers and I were leaving Atlanta and had some time to kill, so one of them suggested this place since we all like Sushi. The host was able to seat us immediately and she helpfully pointed out where we could park roller bags to be out of the way. The decor inside was lovely. Our server Harold was absolutely amazing. He explained the most popular dishes when one of my colleagues couldn't make up his mind and kept us topped up with water as we chatted, and inquired about another round of other beverages at appropriate intervals. Although we all had on the same logo clothes, we did have separate expense accounts and hadn't thought to ask for separate checks. Harold must've engaged his psychic powers, because even though we didn't ask right away, he was back with separate checks like magic. The only reason this didn't get a five from me, was that the food was a bit meh. I understand airport pricing, but it's just very little food and a bit average for a lot of money. The texture was pleasant and taste was standard. Okay for me on an expense account and trying to lose weight, but less so for my buddies who are pretty tall guys who likely had to fuel up again before getting on their flights or anyone not able to expense it. Even the espresso martinis were balanced and smooth with that dreamy foam cap. But what really stood out? The little details. The trio of specialty salts was such a unique touch -- it elevated the whole experience and made it feel intentional and thoughtful. Every ingredient tasted fresh, clean, and well-sourced. Service was friendly and efficient, especially for an airport setting. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five has nothing to do with the food. There was no indoor seating available when we arrived, so we had to sit in the open food court lobby. It was loud, chaotic, and felt more like a fast-food stop than the elevated dining experience this place clearly aims to provide. I'm confident that sitting inside would have completely changed the vibe. Bottom line: In terms of quality, this is easily one of the best airport meals I've had. The sushi and ambience was truly amazing, but I caught them at a bad time I believe, as they were either A. Understaffed or B. Slammed all of a sudden with guests. I was sat promptly, and I thought 45 minutes would be enough time for a glass of bubbly and two hand rolls, but I waited over 30 minutes for the food and found myself scarfing it down quickly before having to run to my gate for boarding. I visited here since I had quite a bit of time before my flight in Concourse T. It takes about 13 mins to walk there if you're at the end of the concourse, like I was. I was seated at the bar almost right away. They will ask you a few times how much time you have to eat, meaning it may take a bit of time for food to come from the kitchen or the sushi chefs, or how many dishes your server will recommend. I looked over the menu and was tempted by the daily specials, one of which was sea urchin at 2 pc for $25; but I stuck with the Hamachi Roll and the Sake Sashimi and an iced tea. Hamachi roll - 8 pieces with the fish coming out the ends of the roll pieces. Fish was very fresh. Sake sashimi - this was good but not as good as the roll since it had a variety of different flavors and was more fresh. The food actually came out in less than 5 mins. The service at the bar was really good, so they definitely got that spot on. The music playing in the background was soft 80s love songs. This was basically a Southern style ramen and it was super flavorful and delicious. The beer selection was also good featuring a few local craft beer options. This is the highest quality of food one can hope to get at an airport. Although it is on the pricier side, I do feel like the price is worth it to eat something outside of the "usual" airport options. The quality of the food was great, and the portions were decently-sized. The fries were very tasty, and the burger was a solid choice. The Open Face Cod Sandwich was much better than I expected it to be, though it may not be for everyone! The Auromatica drink was yummy, and perfectly strong in my opinion! Although it was extremely busy, the service I received was prompt and attentive. My waitress Alexis was phenomenal, just the right amount of engaged while also distant in the right times of the meal and the surrounding staff complimented her service so, so nicely. The restaurant is peaceful cut off from the hustle and bustle of foot traffic and roller bags. Soft notes from a saxophone player was the only pleasant intrusion into this perfect bubble. Kurt, the bartender, told me about the restaurant giving me the history and rundown of popular rolls. He mentioned that people some times make sure their layover takes them through Atlanta with enough time to dine here. I can see why. The food is incredible. It was fresh, fantastic, array of flavors. That kamikaze roll is AMAZING!! The salmon avocado roll I had after? Also amazing! They were delicious and perfect balance of fish and rice and mayo. It was grand. The service was also incredible. I love that they ask how much tim you have before boarding. I had a zillion hours but someone next to me had 20 min and they accommodated perfectly. I spent $100 solo before tip so be prepared. Personally I think it was worth it but I was traveling with my 3 year old right before this who eats only cheese and bread so the splurge was worth it. My flight got delayed so I was on the hunt for the most stars in the airport and I wanted to shelter away from the mass eating areas. The yelp community didn't disappoint with this being ranked highly. So I headed on over to terminal E! Stopped by the international terminal while waiting for boarding to start for my domestic flight. Service was quick and my waiter was friendly! I grabbed an order of the deviled eggs with no added protein and some sushi. The food was fresh and the kamikaze sushi roll was delish! The eggs werent bad but can't say that I would pay $19 for six deviled eggs again. My bill with distilled water came to about $50, which wasnt too bad considering this was really the fanciest airport food Ive ever had! I fly through ATL multiple times a week and One Flew South used to be my go-to. Unfortunately, after four straight disappointing visits, it's clear things have gone downhill. The food quality and table service have both declined significantly. On my last visit, several menu items were unavailable, which is understandable. But the Smash Burger came out like a hockey puck on a bun and was missing most of the listed ingredients, while being overloaded with pepper. The mushroom gnocchi with butternut squash arrived with no squash and maybe five gnocchi on the plate. The table next to us sent both of their dishes back, and when we both mentioned issues to our server, the response was simply, "Well, I ain't cooking it." Service was all around frustrating. Our server disappeared after our drinks arrived, and it took nearly 30 minutes to get the bill because she kept getting distracted each time she went to the terminal. It's disappointing to see a place that was once one of the best dining options in ATL fall this far. Airport food is almost always expensive, rarely worth the price. There are exceptions, however, and One Flew South is definitely an exception to the rule. It's built up a good reputation and the inside was full, but I easily secured a table on the "patio". My server was charming, attentive and prompt with excellent recommendations. I started with a cocktail combining tequila and Campari- explained to me as akin to a Campari Margarita. Flavorful and combines well enough that I could not detect the individual spirits. I often avoid Salmon at restaurants because it is bland but I am so glad I tried it here. The fish was perfectly grilled crispy outside, flaky and tender inside. The curry sauce was delicate yet still had a kick and the chickpeas were delightfully crunchy. Excellent meal. The reviews don't lie. One Flew South is definitely a five-star restaurant in my book. Let's begin as to why, along with the many other parts of this story. As it turns out, we were in the Atlanta airport. We were flying out at nearly 10 PM in the evening, so dinner was definitely a necessity. As I scoured the airport's website to learn about all the food options, I also would search them up on both Google and Yelp. When I landed on One Flew South, my decision was made. It also helped that my companion who flies like crazy and knows all the restaurants in the airport did not object. In retrospect, he deemed this restaurant average, but it likely rose after our dinner experience there. I'll explain. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were sat within five minutes. This seems to be an exception to the rule. Typically this restaurant has a long wait as evidenced by both reviews and by our very own eyes. We seemed to have beaten the rush, as when we left, people were in line, hoping to grab our table. So, lesson in all this is... Go when you're not in a rush. We weren't at all and it worked out heavenly for us. Anyhow, we were sat and attended by Edith. Edith was a real sweetheart. Her bubbly personality just made us excited to be there and made what was coming somewhat bearable: a 16+ hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa. I will also say that the customers around us added to that. The space is small, so the tables are quite close. You'll soon enough make friends with your neighbors. At any rate, we ordered wine and beer respectively to begin our meal. Edith read us the specials and I chose one rather than choosing stuff from the menu. I believe my special was the Sorrano roll (spelling may or may not be correct). It contained cream cheese, wontons, and shrimp. It was downright delicious, not heavy at all as I feared. I wanted something light given the long flight. Had that not been the case, I'd have opted for their ramen instead. My companion chose a steak and they actually properly cooked it, so he was happy. As for dessert, I debated hard and finally ordered one as I spoke to my neighbors who had indeed ordered one. Well, the dessert was not something I typically would order (seems to be a theme with this restaurant as the sushi roll is another example of this). It was a rice pudding with bourbon glaze and it was shockingly tasty. Usually I hate rice pudding as the texture is off, but here it was perfect. This is a high end restaurant where things are nothing like what you might expect. Ask for bread and you get sliced bread (good and nutty but looks like store bought loaf) with furukake on it. Read all menu descriptions carefully. Lamb ribs were lovely but very sweet. Sweet potato "salad" underneath has huge chunks of unskinned cold sweet potatoes which were unappetizing. Either heat them or cut them smaller. The tandoori chicken is a fiery chicken curry. A side of raita would and some naan would be welcome. The rice pudding, which is the signature dessert, is not AT ALL the usual rice pudding and needs a new name all together. It's a puddle of some kind of syrup with a little coconut milk and black rice. Like drinking syrup straight. read more

Had a 2 hour layover and was pleasantly surprised to find this spot right inside the airport. It's located in the E gates and we took a quick and simple trip via tram. The service was amazing and the food exceeded my expectations. I almost forgot I was in the airport and felt like I transported to a classy dinner spot. Skip the "Deviled Egg Experience." It's not much of an experience... mostly an experience in bland. The salmon and avocado roll was good. And the Toro (fatty tuna) sashimi was outstanding. It's good sushi overall... in an airport. The prices are high, but it is a restful experience during a stressful time. Started off with smoke signal cocktail which is like an OF but with tequila and mezcal. Roasted beet salad was amazing with the creamy goat cheese. Mushroom gnocchi had a bit too many brussel sprouts. More mushrooms or gnocci would have been preferable. Service from Alexis was great. Unfortunately, our server also kept forgetting to bring stuff to our table like the drink we ordered, a sushi roll and our check. Food: Expensive and not worth the price. The Pork & Potstickers was served in a lukewarm broth and the fried pot stickers where just soggy and unappetizing. The fried pork belly was also cold. I ordered the Tandoori Chicken, which was a risk for me since I'm usually a picky eater. But it ended up being the best chicken I have ever had. Absolutely incredible. As much as the food blew us away, the real highlight was the service we received from Isiah. He was not even our server, he is a host, but he went above and beyond in every way.
