This is not a post based solely on my experience. I wasn't planning to write a review until a colleague shared with me today that they had a nearly identical experience at this same location. I visited the restaurant on Wednesday evening with a colleague, and while the sushi itself was quite good, the overall experience was deeply unsettling. It was extremely concerning to observe the bartender consuming alcohol on the job an observation that became more understandable once we realized that the obviously intoxicated woman was the General Manager of the restaurant. Her laughter was loud, her conversations were disruptive, and her phone was playing at full volume throughout the restaurant. This behavior was difficult to ignore and highly unprofessional, particularly for someone in a leadership role. While she appeared to be a pleasant young woman on a personal level, professionalism must remain a priority in management. When leadership fails to uphold standards, it inevitably sets the tone for the staff. This is unfortunate, as the establishment has clear potential. However, without consistent professional oversight and expectations from management, that potential is diminished. The owners may want to reassess their management standards if they wish to preserve the quality of the dining experience and the restaurant's reputation. I really liked the decor. They have a cool looking bar with beautiful light fixtures. The food was good, but it took forever to get it. Our server appeared annoyed that we wanted our drinks in a timely manner. The scorched salmon roll was excellent. The salmon kale Caesar salad sans croutons was good. The lemon parm fries were good, but the server brought my friend plain fries and then told her she could add the lemon and Parmesan...not cool. I eventually got my Gadot (drink) and it was good. Stopped by a quick lunch here and their menu is expansive, they've got wings to burgers and salads to sushi but I wasn't impressed with the sushi. It was good but nothing to really be excited about. We had a very special early dinner at Thrive last Wednesday. We started with the potsticker app, as the waitress recommended it. It was amazing, especially the slightly spicy vinaigrette. The pickled veggies complemented the pot stickers perfectly. I got the braised beef shank with mashed potatoes & broccoli. It was super umami tasting. I kept wondering how they got all that meaty flavor, perhaps bone marrow? We ended with a shared dessert of crispy biscuits with whisky soaked peaches. The best tasting peach dessert I've ever had. I actually enjoyed this place a bit, walking in the vibe was pretty decent. It was very quiet though and the service was not great at all. Our waiter hardly came to check on us and even forgot to ask us what we wanted to drink and had to remind him. Wasn't great service at all. The food made up for it though, I got the salmon with the glaze on it and it tasted amazing! The couscous was a bit salty but the salmon was everything. Plating was everything and I loved the green beans a lot. They had a nice texture and great flavor. For an appetizer we got the buratta and the bread and it was excellent! I do wish there was more bread though but overall it was delicious. So the food was definitely 9/10 for me as for the service it wasn't great. Chanel and her team are awesome! If you're planning an event in downtown Atlanta, I highly recommend Thrive. I came here for a board dinner and they ensured we had a wonderful night. Our meal was served buffet style which allowed us to mix and mingle easily and some of the highlights for me were: mashed potatoes, sushi, fresh fruit, and the cheesecake, which was incredible. I love a buffet so everyone can get exactly what they want! Chanel's staff provided boxes so we could take leftovers home and the next day I was so happy to find my cheese and fruit selection in my hotel room mini fridge. Whoever the chef is that created this menu and keeps updating it deserves a Michelin star. The flavor combinations are out of this world. The food tastes so good it honestly does not make sense. I will argue with anyone who will listen that this is the best food in downtown Atlanta. Now, the service? Extremely slow. And some servers I would just prefer not to have. For example, the Spanish-speaking male server is terrible. I truly do not understand how he is still employed. On the flip side, you have servers like Ashley (I might be getting her name wrong), who is so sweet and personable every single time. The bar here pours heavy. If that is your thing, it is perfect. Not really my thing though, I just come for the food. The Spanish-speaking guy refuses to come to the table, but whatever, I just tip him low. The real star of the show will forever be the food. I parked in the AAA parking lot which is $14 for two hours. Then walked across the street to THRIVE. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the bartender YoYo. I ordered the Bartender's Choice where you ask the Bartender for the daily special for drinks. I don't remember what she made, but she made it with Jack Daniel's and it very good! For eats, I ordered the Spicy Salmon sushi and Chicken Quesadilla from their happy hour menu. I was invited to join a group for a dinner gathering at Thrive in downtown Atlanta. It's well maintained with a separate bar area, restrooms are the individual stations, and it's large enough for groups. The servers are knowledgeable about all aspects of the menu, including the sushi. Thrive sushi was a safe choice along with several appetizers. The food did take some time to arrive, and I'll admit, our party of 8 people probably slowed things down. Overall, I had a good time at this restaurant. We were downtown on a Monday afternoon looking for a place to eat lunch and stumbled across Thrive. Our server was amazing. Very attentive and knowledgeable. Food was delivered quickly! Again, this was a regular Monday afternoon. We ordered the Calamari with sweet chili sauce. The sweet chili sauce was good, but I felt like it was too much for my taste. I prefer crispy calamari and with the sauce, they were far too wet. That is the ONLY thing I didn't like about this place. My 3 year old got chicken tenders and seasoned fries (not on the lunch menu). I typically judge a place by how good their fries are, and they did not disappoint!! These chicken tenders were not your typical frozen reheated tenders. They seemed like gourmet, and they were HUGE! Very impressed. I had the Thrive Special. My husband had the Rainbow Roll and the Thai Chili & Lime Wings. The wings flavor was really unique and the wings are huge (served with 3). My brother ordered a regular burger with no onions and or cheese. He didn't need to add ketchup or anything and he kept raving about how good it was. Finally, we all shared the Georgia Peach Biscuits. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! We all were just about HOW GOOD that dessert was. Overall, this place is very sleek with a beautiful atmosphere. Sat at the bar and ordered cocktails and food. The bartender was terrific. She warned us the kitchen was backed up and that drinks would be quick but food could be slower. The restaurant was busy and we were happy to have a drink (or more) while waiting, though we appreciated her candor. My wife ordered one of their craft cocktails but requested it to be less on the sweet side. The bartender checked back in immediately after serving us to see how the drinks turned out. My wife, after some convincing by the bartender, shared the drink was a bit too sweet. The bartender took back the drink, made a few tweaks, and then it was perfect. The food was exceptional. We ordered the salmon and shrimp salad with arugula. The restaurant could use more staffing or prioritize busing the bar and tables. Throughout the night patrons would leave and the tables weren't cleaned for up to an hour. Having a clean front of house is important and makes the restaurant more inviting. So . . . The food was great! I had a sushi (smoked salmon, salmon, and tuna)--very good, beautifully presented; my bestie had Chilean Salmon--yum. Yum. Yum! My husband had the fried airline chicken, and, yes, WONDERFUL! As an appetizer, we shared the chicken ginger potstickers. They were good but cold. They'd sat, for a while. Two parties who came to the bar (and ordered) after we ordered and got their apps and drinks before we did. In fact, I finished a phone call before entering (5 minutes) and went to the water closet. My husband and bestie still had not been offered waters or a drink order when I sat. They'd been seated for at least 10 minutes. At some point, a friend of ours came in, and we caught her attention, and she sat with us, waiting for her date for the game. She had to call attention to be acknowledged for a drink order--at least 10 minutes after she sat--we had still not received our drink order. While our friend was chatting with us, a woman who Had been sitting on the other corner of the bar since arrived (chatting with a man and another woman) came behind the bar and started chatting up our friend. It was at that point, I asked (our friend) and realized the woman (on her laptop, chatting up our friend) was the general manager. After the chat, she sat back down at her laptop. Another employee had been hanging out, doing nothing to assist, chatting and hanging with her (the GM) (after the previous two guests [employees?] had left). The young bartender was STRUGGLING! The bar was 80% full plus 3 of the 5 tables served by the bar were filled. No one was helping. The GM (sitting AT THE BAR, ON HER LAPTOP, remember) never raised a finger or an eyebrow to help, to call for help, in any way. We finally received our app with no flatware or plates--but only after I asked the bartender if our app was ordered. After waiting for flatware/napkins for at least two minutes, I walked from my corner of the bar, over to the GM )and other employee playing and chatting at the other corner of the bar) and asked for plates and flatware. They instructed the poor, struggling bartender to get them for us. Whew! We finally got a sec opportunity to order a drink but only after after we had finished our meal. The food was GREAT! The service was poor, but the service was poor because the GM didn't lift a finger to assist--not in a single way. I don't care the reason for her on her laptop. Her employee was struggling. She lost sight of the purpose of the service industry. Meanwhile, the employee who was playing around with her (well, bouncing between her and the hostess) deigned to go behind the bar and serve three people who came in and started chatting him up (friends, acquaintances at least). He, then, went to the bar and served them, stayed with them and did nothing else to assist in any way. He was having a grand ole time entertaining as though he were in his living room! I usually ONLY leave reviews when service has gone above and beyond because, lately, every breath, everyone expects a survey, but this is a clear case of mismanagement. She (the GM) needs to be pulled in and taught how to do her job. We are close friends with a GM of a bourbon bar/restaurant we frequent 2-3 times a week: I asked my husband "can you imagine H****** sitting at the bar on her laptop when customers are 'doing without'?" WTH?! As we paid our tab and were leaving--getting the tab took about 7 minutes--, I asked the server/bartender what was happening. He was clearly uncomfortable and over his head. He didn't want to pass any blame. My husband said: "we know plenty of places where you can tend bar and get the support you need." When I asked about the GM and the other dude, he said "well, he's off and not really supposed to be here." Hey, GM, send him the F**K home and help the person working! Do your job! We won't return. And I'm sad. The food AND drinks were really good. We were there to see a concert. We gave ourselves two hours for dinner and to walk two blocks (to the Tabernacle). We got in the building (no line at the venue) at 7:50 after arriving at the restaurant at 6:05. We wasted no time, so . . . The vibe inside is always chill, the kind of environment that helps you reset and recharge. We found Thrive on Yelp! But didn't pay attention to the hours. Showed up during their afternoon break and was told that they were only serving a limited happy hour menu. Upon seeing we were a little disappointed the host said that her talk to the sushi chef....who in turn said that her be happy to make us some rolls. And OMG was it AMAZING. Prior to the Strength of a Woman concert on 5/12, made reservations online the same day. Easy on Open Table. Arrived a little early and we were immediately seated by the hostess. Our server was friendly and explained the happy hour (only at bar) and ingredients for the signature cocktails. She was patient and helpful. Drinks were the Paloma and Lychee Martini. Delicious. We started our journey with two cocktails, the lychee martini and the bite the bullet. And then we had sushi appetizers. We enjoyed a Thrive Philly sushi roll, which was my favorite and the raging passion roll, which was really good, but it was very spicy. We enjoyed both of them, I think babe liked the raging passion more because he loves the spice. Then we got our entrées. Babe had the turkey club with fries. It was a thick, huge sandwich and he said it was really good. I had the bourbon glaze salmon medium- can you say amazing in flavorful because that's what it was! We were actually too full for dessert and we didn't really see the dessert menu because we would've been very much tempted... But we did have room for one more cocktail, and because the lychee martini was so good we got two of those! Now we're onto the payment system, which was awesome. The service was painfully slow--sat at a Hi top in the bar for over 20 minutes without being acknowledged and had to ask someone to take our order. After waiting an hour, the appetizer finally arrived, conveniently just as I was trying to cancel it. When I mentioned to the bartender that we'd been there for an hour, his response was, "We got really busy." No apology, just excuses. We eventually cancelled our entrees and asked to speak to the manager, but was told she was too busy to speak to us. The worst thing a restaurant can do is fail to own up to its mistakes. An excellent first experience-we stayed 2hrs chatting over drinks! My husband and I took a chance and ventured downtown to find something new and we are impressed! Although currently renovating on one side, the resturant is fully operating and LIVE. We were early, being the FIRST 5pm customers, but they were ready. We had a window seat which allowed us the ability to really look around and see the entire space which quickly changed as the sunset from a bright sunny room to a dimly lit, upscale lounge. The posh resturant has window seats, high tops, family style buffet tables and a- COUCH- all on the floor. Sounds like a lot but it works well together. The food was "just enough" - a nice fusion between asian/american and unique drinks. Although our hostess expressed the Fried chicken was often sent back, and the Shrimp/grits was a favorite along with the Salmon, I tried the chicken and am very happy I did. I do appreciate service that informs and let you make your decision. Her honesty was refreshing so I was prepared. Our drinks were great- mines with fresh Thyme and his has a "Thai sweet chili" infusion. We had to speak with the Bartender to get more info on that spicy drink Overall, we will be back very soon.
