This spot has been on my list for years and I finally got a chance to stop by and try some of the items and check the vibes. Apparently the entire menu has recently changed, and the guest that came with me were expecting a completely different type of food. We made the best of it in order several items from the menu. I have driven by this restaurant so many times, and I finally got the chance to dine in. There is ample garage parking and some free street spaces. The restaurant is right across from AMC. The ambiance is nice inside--beautiful decor. The music is 80s rock and pop, which I enjoy, but I wish there was more variety. I went pretty early in the evening, so I was one of only a few people. My server was sweet but a bit chatty. I ordered the Brussels sprouts, pork chilli wontons, crab Rangoon dip, and some sort of apple drink. Everything I ordered seemed excessively sweet. The dip had a sweet chilli sauce on top. The Brussel sprouts had a similar sauce, and so did the wontons. It was a bit too much. Also, I ordered a few baked oysters and they never came. When I inquired about them, I was told by one server that the oysters got sent to a different table and the order was messed up due to shift changes. My actual server went missing and then reappeared about 20 minutes later, stating that she had a meeting and asked why I didn't like my oysters. I thought she left?? Clearly, there was some sort of misunderstanding or lack of communication on their end. Mistakes happen, but it did affect my experience. Not sure if he was the manager or what, but he said he would give me something on my next visit. I don't know his name, he doesn't know mine, and don't know what I will get lol , but maybe he will remember my face. I love a restaurant where the energy is great and the food is just as amazing. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the owner and he was telling us the history of the paining and why he called it GirlDiver, amazing story we started off with the fried rice and tacos, which was shrimp and pork meat so delicious so juicy we had the pork belly that was just Deliciously flavored and then we ended up with the lavender drink and my sister had this delicious cucumber drink that was just really refreshing and then we ended off our meal not with dessert but with oysters and what a great decision that was the oysters were delicious. They were juicy full, not overly salty because sometimes when you get the Parmesan cheese, it is salty, but not here. We originally planned to attend the free screening of Mission Impossible at the AMC across the street; however, when we arrived the line was wrapped around the building so we decided to go ahead and get dinner. We ended up wandering into Girl Diver on a whim and I'm so glad we did. We started with the cheeseburger sliders which were excellent. So tasty, well cooked, and perfectly seasoned. My partner actually ordered another round of these for his entree. I ordered the Thai chicken fried rice. It was really good. I wanted it to have more spice though so I asked for sriracha and everything was copacetic. I loved it. Also Richard's (The Restaurant Owner) playlist was soulful and such a vibe. - This review is for the speakeasy in the back - Came after a movie on a Friday night. Hardly a soul at Girl Diver, which made me wonder how they stay in biz. A speakeasy door should be artfully hidden, and this one is - love the sneaky bookshelf entrance. That is where the charm ends for decor. This speakeasy is dingy, dank, and could use a fresh coat of paint, an air purifier, and some windex. One TV doesn't work, but hangs lifelessly on the wall. The saving grace to this operation are the bartenders. They are awesome. The kind of classic cool you'd want in speakeasy bartenders - I genuinely felt they wanted my group to have a good time, and they pour some fantastic drinks! DJ was fantastic, although too loud for this tiny space if you want conversation. I can't speak to the food, since we just came for drinks. This is one of those places where you almost forget to take pictures of your food because it's that good. The curry has just the right amount of spice and the street corn is phenomenal. The cocktails are pretty amazing as well. Friends and I have visited twice now and both times the service was top-notch, the restaurant and bathrooms were exceptionally clean, and it was the perfect environment for both a casual dinner or a fancy night out. We learned on our last visit that there is a hidden speakeasy in the back. I love that the cocktails on the main menu are creative, rather than your run of the mill, typical cocktails. First time visiting last night and was impressed by the ambiance and decor. They were prompt in seating my girlfriend and I, and the server was very attentive and nice. We ordered the labneh which was disappointing in the amount as we received a dollop of the labneh with 2 quarter pieces of pita for $15. It was tasty but for the cost there should have been quite a bit more. For the mains we ordered the bolognese which was very good but didn't fit the description of chili oil bolognese. The flavors were great and the portion was good though. We also ordered the shish kabob which had a few pieces of charged, overcooked and unseasoned steak over a bland bed of rice and charred raw onion. The presentation was nice but it left a lot to be desired. Overall I think the thought and ideas are there with great service but needs better execution on the food side to match. read more

We dressed down on a Sunday night but this is easily a dress up date spot! The place is beautiful and intimate. It has a nice dining room and then a covered patio. My bourbon cocktail (can't remember the name) was delicious. So delicious I had two... The food was excellent. We started with the Garlic Cheese Bread. Unfortunately not pictured here. This is a MUST order. It was two about 6" round "loafs" of soft pillowy bread semi-hollowed out as a bowl. Then stuffed with this light fluffy cheese (ricotta blend?) We demolished it immediately. I would just get this and a cocktail and be in bliss. The Basil Chicken was moist and the sauce very flavorful but it's definitely spicy with its red curry. Don't know if you can ask for it to be more mild if you can't take the heat. The Shaking Beef was very good as well. A huge amount of tender beef with just enough chew with a nice glazed sauce over it. The side salad was light and refreshing. 10/10 experience! Girl Driver is in my neighborhood so, I have NO idea why it took me so long to dine here. Everything was excellent from the ambiance, playlist, food, drinks and, service. Max just earned himself a regular! He took such great care of the table and had a fun personality. He made sure to explain all of the specials and which days to visit ( Bodega Tuesdays). For food, the table ordered: Brussels, Lobster Roll and, Lobster Mac & Cheese. The Brussels were gigantic and tossed in the most delicious sauce. I love the effort, but it wasn't very practical. $20 GREEN CURRY MUSSELS: this portion was huge! the mussels were large and the sauce was tasty, but almost tasted watered down? Maybe not enough curry flavor? I liked it, but it could use improvement. Comes with 3 thin slices of sourdough to soak up the sauce. Good appetizer to share between 2 people. $20 CARAMELIZED CHICKEN: this was good, but it was the smallest chicken thigh/breast I've ever seen. Mostly just rice and an almost soft-boiled egg. The speak easy definitely needed leveling up it just appeared as a regular bar, I bought in my espresso martini from the main bar and then ordered another but it looked like a latte and tasted like one. Venue and Atmosphere The decor is beautiful, with blue uplighting and a covered patio. They did the classic restaurant illusion of placing mirrors to make the space seem larger, but with windows on top and mirrors on the bottom it is quite convincing. Service Service was prompt, courteous, and efficient. The place was nearly empty when we went, so everything moved quickly. Food and Beverages The lemon pepper wings were good, crispy, and not too salty. The dim sum was decent but nothing to write home about. We're most excited for the Brussels... had some family issues pop up and needed to get our order to go... tried to flag down the server but she was nowhere to be seen in that time (at least 10 minutes, reminder there were only like 3 other tables in the whole place). They eventually brought out the apps without the Brussels and the server said she "just found out they were out of Brussels". It feels like they could have communicated that sooner. They did not have a changing table in either bathroom for a child. Also, it was SO HOT INSIDE. Even if we didn't need to leave, I don't think we could have stayed because it was close to unbearable. I ordered a second round - a draft beer - and it also took forever to arrive, pretty much finished my meal by the time it arrived, and the glass they served me wasn't even full. I was hoping for amazing food but I was severely let down. I ordered the steak skewers, the fried beef dumplings, the and fried Brussel sprouts. Let's start with the service it took forever for the server to come over. Then it took forever for us to receive our drinks and it took forever for us to get our appetizers. Our waitress was very nice however her niceness could not make up for the delayed service and mediocre food. Our first appetizer delivered was the fried beef dumplings. These were bland. No amount of soy sauce could add flavor to these. The only thing I can say is they were crunchy. The second item delivered was the fried Brussels sprouts. They were okay. The vinegar was strong and a few were burnt but they were still meh. The last thing that was delivered were the steak skewers. There were 5 skewers. On each skewer was one small piece of meat, one small potato piece, and a bunch of onions. Only the tip of the skewer had food on it. 75% of the skewer was empty. Arrived at 3:45pmish not sure if shift change but bar tender/server was disoriented. The bar was a mess with used glasses . The owner came out. (Only know he was the owner because we heard him say it to someone) He didn't speak to us. He kinda watched the bar tender and was whispering so not sure if she was getting "in trouble" but she was already not organized. I'm sure his words didn't help. He made eye contact with us a few times but never spoke. He walked around the restaurant watching the lone bar tender while having a conversation with his AirPods. He eventually sat at the end of the bar on his laptop. We were the only ones in the restaurant at the time. About 4pm a couple shows up and sits at the bar across from us. The owner does stop to take the time to talk to them...we were wondering why we got ignored. Another set of people showed up and he stopped to talk to them too. Meanwhile the bartender has told us for the second time that the menu is NEW. So when I asked if she had tasted the foods she said "not yet" she couldn't recommend anything. Ok, we ordered 3 appetizers. Two of them being oysters. They took forever to come out just as our drinks took forever to be made as the bar tender didn't seem to know where any of the ingredients were for a drink on her menu and also had to sneak and read a printout to make them. When the oysters came we had no oyster forks. When we asked for them we got spoons. I said to the bar tender "ummm spoons?" She said "we don't have any oyster forks. He changes the menu so often that we don't have any." I accepted the answer at first but then I looked back at the menu and read the name "Girl Diver" and oysters are at the top and forefront of the menu so why would you give me spoons to eat oysters? Anyway we didn't really get to eat the oysters because we didn't have the proper tools to eat them and we didn't send them back because the owner already didn't speak to us. Second time at this new-ish viet fusion in Madison Yards. Cute decor and a nice shaded patio for summer afternoon cocktails. There is a new speakeasy bar in the back that I recommend to check it out after dinner. We got the : Fried chicken sandwich: delicious and crispy. The waffle fries were SO good! Seasoned to perfection and fried golden. Catfish: did they change the menu? I didn't remember it was this sweet. I would not get this again unless they would change the seasoning ratio. I came here on a Monday night for dinner with a friend! We walked over, but there's parking nearby on the street or in the deck by the AMC next door. It was pretty empty since it was a Monday, so we were seated immediately. The vibes were super cool when we entered, very open and vibrant. Once seated, our waiter was super friendly and checked in on us multiple times. I ordered the Burro-ed time. They were out of watermelon unfortunately, but I was able to swap out for lychee instead and our server was super helpful with listing out options. My drink was super refreshing and delicious. We decided to share a couple plates, including the shrimp har gua, green curry mussels, and lobster mac n cheese. The shrimp har gua was fine - I've had better dumplings and for the price, I was surprised it was only 3 tiny dumplings. The XO sauce for dipping was delicious though! The lobster mac n cheese was super rich and I loved the cherry tomatoes and plump pieces of lobster sprinkled throughout. This was a definite star. My favorite though was the green curry mussels! These were totally unexpected but SO GOOD! I loved the curry and the portion was very generous.
