My first time at Kinjo room for a date was very pleasant! The interior is dark and moody and the decor is beautifully done, perfect date night vibes. We got the shrimp tempura special roll, spicy tuna roll, and spicy yellowtail roll. They were delicious, I loved the shrimp tempura and yellowtail the most! I also had a sakura cocktail that was supposed to come with a cotton candy cloud, but unfortunately they did not have the cotton candy at the time which was slightly disappointing. Other than that, the drink was very sweet and yummy, and came with decorative flowers and a sugar rim. There were so many delicious cocktail options, I might go back just to try them all! The service was slightly slow, but our server seemed to be helping multiple different tables so it was understandable. I went here for girls night out a few days ago and I'll 100% be back with my husband for an intimate date night. We sat at the bar - it has by far more light than any of the table seating - so ig you have any issues with sight, keep that in mind. It a beautiful and aesthetic space. I'll be adding it to my list of "Aesthetic Atlanta Date Night Spots" I ordered a negroni and it was very good. If it is one of your go-to drinks, they make a good one here. My friend ordered a cocktail off the menu and she liked it. I did not try hers so I can't speak to it. For dinner, I was not crazy hungry and sushi tends to fill me up quickly I played it safe and ordered the soft shell crab roll and it was very good. A bit on the small side, I left comfortable full not stuffed. I could have maybe ordered something else to feel a bit more satiated. The presentation was beautiful though. My friend ordered items that were all off menu specials of the day so I can't speak to them as I did not try them and am unsure of the names anyway (I'm not a huge sushi girl. I know what I like and I tend to stick to those) Another BIG plus for me as someone who can use chopsticks but isn't good at it (think food flying and hitting other diners) I was not hassled at all for asking for a fork. No one made fu of me or made me feel bad about it. So if you're not great with them like me, or never learned to use them you will not be made uncomfortable there. Came here for dinner on a weekday and it wasn't super busy. We ordered the spicy yellowtail roll, wagyu roll and fried calamari. The fried calamari was pretty good and the batter felt pretty light. The sauce was pretty spicy and flavorful. The Wagyu roll was definitely our favorite! Super flavorful and the asparagus was such a nice crunchy touch! An explosion of textures. However, we were charged a large party tax of 20% for 2 people. I was very confused by this charge. I hate to make assumptions of race, yet it does make you say hummm. Kinjo Room has one of the more memorable interior designs among Atlanta restaurants I've visited in recent memory. I expect no less from the restaurant's namesake, Alex Kinjo. If you're familiar with the Atlanta dining scene, Alex needs no introduction. As I wrote in my review for MF Sushi in Inman Park ( https://bit.ly/3Pr1Icr ), his restaurants have always been swanky and stylish. It's clear Alex is talented when it comes to visual aesthetics. His restaurants are gorgeous. Kinjo Room feels like a luxe Japanese bar and lounge. The aura of Alex's restaurants defines them and sets them apart. Most recently, he opened Kinjo Room in April 2022, Mai Kitchen in August 2022, and Yakitori Kona in September 2023. Kinjo Room is inside The Interlock, the bustling development across from now-old-school Westside Provisions District. This part of town has exploded over the last several years. Next door to Kinjo Room is "Kinjo Next Door," another exquisite space. It functions as an omakase bar, private event space, and an overflow room. Kinjo Room itself isn't huge and indeed can feel more like a large room instead of a restaurant. I think the good reviews must be for the bar part of the restaurant. I reserved the dining part not knowing there were different areas. When I walked in and gave my name to the hostess, she was rude and unwelcoming and told me I didn't have a reservation. I then showed her my reservation and she grabbed the menus and started walking for us to follow but didn't say a word or apologize for being wrong about the reservation. The whole dining area was open except for one table and she squeezed us in right next to the one table. So off the bat, not a fine dining experience but I let it go and we waited to order. The ambience was dark and romantic like a hotel bar so really nice visually but techno/dance music which seemed unfitting. Ordered a few rolls and a few drinks. Drinks were amazing. Rolls and sushi plates were great but nothing extraordinary. You could get the same sushi at most restaurants. By the time we sat down our water were being poured and out waitress was ready to go over the menu. I witnessed a couple leave the restaurant within 5 mins the table had already been turned and set for the next guest. The food came out in lightning speed. And all the food was hot and delectable. I ordered quite a few things on the menu. I got the Salmon Tartar, which was surprisingly delicious. The salmon was fresh. And the spices added gave the prefect balance. And then its topped with a quail egg which I was a little optimistic at first but if you mix it well its changes the constancy. The Shrimp Tempura. Fried to the perfection. The Calamari, OMGGG so tasty and it had this sauce that came with it that was so good I also ate it with the Shrimp Tempura. The only con to Kinjo was the minute menu. I love sushi and all the rolls are pretty standard and I value when they can get creative with their menu. That's about all that they lack here.. I wish they offered more but nonetheless the food I did order was delicious. Highly suggest parking valet. The parking can be somewhat of overwhelming with everyone going on in that little area. It's a solid 3.5 stars for me. Ambiance is gorgeous. Reminds me of a Japanese inspired Izakaya with a speak easy vibe. Cocktails are strong and delicious. My girlfriends and I literally tried almost the entire menu and had the Omakase. Everything was delicious. Fish was fresh. Most of the dishes were seasoned well. Now why the lower rating is the service was LACKING. Our server was friendly but she kept forgetting what we had ordered so we were missing items and she barely checked in on us. We would have ordered a lot more had she came by to ask if we needed anything. It was not busy as we were one of only 3 other tables there that night. I believe the owner also came in during our dinner and it became kind of odd that he stood by the edge of the bar and just watched everyone without saying a word. He did come by to refill our waters because (again) our server could never be found but he said NOTHING to us. Not a quick how's it going or even a Hi. Awkward...... Out of the 4 drinks I've tried, my favorite was the Maiden's Wish. It had a wow factor, tasted semi sweet and fruity. Perfect drink! Food wise, I would stick to nigiri and lobster box. I would probably come back and just order multiple lobster box orders, it was the best thing on their menu. Everything else was just bland and not memorable. WARNING, do not order their specials of the night. If interested, ask for price. All of our orders from the tonights special was not worth the price. I haven't been to a sushi lounge where everything I ordered tasted great; Kinjo Room is the first! My partner and I didn't have a reservation, but we were seated immediately upon arrival. Service was phenomenal, decor was elegant, ambiance was amazing (great date spot!), and the food was fresh and delicious! We ordered Calamari Karaage with eel sauce and spicy mayo, Negi Salmon Roll, Uni Nigiri (Sea Urchin Roe), and a Spicy Tuna Osaka Box Style Roll. Our total came out to be about $100. The ambiance was so beautiful, we were seated in the smaller section of the restaurant next door. Our server knew everything about the menu and how to cater to our own taste. If you love MF Sushi or anything from the Kinjo brothers, you'll like this resto. It's sexy and very intimate. It's a small space so I definitely recommend you rsvp. Although I may drop in to see if there is space at the bar because I love the vibe. The service was great and my smoked old fashioned was in point. But I must sat, the food was good. I was expecting exceptional. Perhaps I had high expectations. Don't get me wrong, I did enjoy the baked scallops (a must try) but the other dishes were ok for the price. Swanky eatery with a nice vibe. If you are truly hungry, this probably isn't the place for you. I will say that all ingredients were very fresh, and the colors on the plate made the food exciting visually. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The area has come a long way over the years.
