Service? Excellent. Ambiance? Relaxed and enjoyable. Food? Oh...MAN. Wow…read more.. I came here about 8 years ago with the same family members +1 family friend and we enjoyed dinner then, but it truly didn't compare to this visit. Previously, I had Kang Nam slated as an overpriced, but decent sushi place that serves meals on a more robust scale if you're dining with a party. However, the sushi back then was somewhat underwhelming. Last night, we had a phenomenal set. Hamachi, Otoro, Unagi, Ebi, and more! Every piece was delicately balanced and beautifully arranged. Honestly, I wasn't really expecting too much going in- and I'd only chosen Kang Nam as a place where I could get some decent sushi while my family got something else entirely. My mom had Don Katsu (served with a small dish of Japanese style curry sauce). My uncle got the Tempura Udon, of which they served the tempura shrimp on the side in a bed of tempura flakes. This is kind of genius, because you can make the decision on when you want to dip in your tempura instead of them bringing it and you have to down the tempura fast in order to still have it be crunchy... NOT HERE! It stays crunchy since they serve it separately. Love that. We had refillable banchan: kimchi, king oyster mushrooms, and glass noodles- all of which were delicious. We all received bowls of deliciously simple miso soup and we ordered a set of fried dumplings. Everything was great! That is...until the sushi came out. Wow. Presentation: 10/10. Flavor? 10/10. Portion-size: TEN OUT OF TEN, Y'ALL. The sushi rice was fantastic and they didn't use too much like a lot of places do with their nigiri. The toppings were functionally decorative. The sweet shrimp was especially pretty with two different colors of roe on top. The yellowtail didn't need the toppings it had- green onion and fish/squid flakes(?)- in my opinion, but they added a dimension of texture to the initial bite and a hint of flavor to the finish. The fish was perfect in every way: not too thick, no too thin, overlapping the rice by double to allow for perfect soy sauce dips without soaking the rice, and I just CAN NOT EXPLAIN how good each piece was... The sushi rolls were so delicious and every bite had wonderful textures and flavors, but my absolute favorite roll was the one with the smoked tuna on top- WOW! Absolutely stunned. Never - EVER - have I actually tasted the smoke flavor so clearly and completely. I am a HUGE fan of that one and I can't even remember the name of it...it's in the picture on the plate behind the sweet shrimp. The eel nigiri was also a highlight for me- as it's one of my favorite pieces of sushi, I always order several pieces. I was happily surprised to see they were nearly twice the size I get at other restaurants. Hands-down, the best otoro (fatty tuna) I've had in Atlanta. The sushi chef here also believes in giving special service by preparing some extra pieces for the customers as well. I only ordered one set of otoro, but next time....oh my...my bill is gonna hurt next time. Each 2-piece set of otoro is set at $17, so...yeah... It's going to be SO WORTH IT though. I will 10000% be back- soon. I might just get some Otoro, Hamachi, and one of those smoked tuna rolls...man. SO. RIDICULOUSLY. GOOD. Get in there if you haven't been in a while. Trust me!

That said, locals recommended it, and I usually love sushi as a post-flight meal since it's light and fresh. The ambiance is dreamy, and I really appreciated the attentive service and bar seating. I ordered an avocado ball with caviar and spicy tuna, which was lovely and beautifully plated. I'd also seen a foodie Instagrammer mention their off-menu crispy rice rolls, so I gave those a try. Unfortunately, they fell a bit flat for me. I ended up adding a lot of soy sauce since they sincerely lacked flavor. When the bill came, I realized this probably wasn't the best choice for a quick, light meal. The prices were comparable to California, but the quality didn't quite match. That said, the person sitting next to me mentioned she visits often and felt that the night was a bit off, so I'd be open to giving it another try next time I'm in town.

The service was friendly and attentive! Overall such a great spot! The only downside is that they don't validate parking !

It's a great place people often celebrate their birthdays at with top quality tastes. While Nakato didn't quite compete with Kobe's elegant interior or food quality, I did find it to be one of the best I've found so far in Atlanta! The exterior is very nice and I read that they renovated the interior. It feels very family friendly and welcoming. My husband and I got an avocado roll and a shrimp tempura roll (minus the masago this time) to share as an appetizer, which were so yummy! These rolls definitely hit the spot and we were tempted to order more but decided to be patient for the main event. We were seated at a table with a bunch of teens celebrating two birthdays, which was fine. The chef was funny in his interactions with them, and was polite to us as well. For my protein, I chose the shrimp & chicken. I almost just chose chicken because the meal already comes with a small serving of shrimp (I believe two shrimps), but my husband convinced me to get both so he could help me finish the shrimp (he doesn't really eat chicken). For my husband's protein, he went with the shrimp and scallops. As with most hibachi/teppanyaki places, we had clear broth mushroom soup to start. They were simple but comforting. Then, we were given our ginger house salads. The dressing is intense but I love intense. I mixed it into the lettuce and it was great. Next, our chef started on our meals. We were given grilled vegetables, noodles, fried rice (you can have for an upcharge from the regular white steamed rice, which is what our entire table and us did), and our proteins. I'm so glad I ended up getting half shrimp because it was very good! Sadly, I must say, skip the chicken. It was a little chewy, a tad dry, and pretty flavorless. The yum yum sauce helped. My husband's scallops were great... very tender and flavorful. The noodles were okay... I just prefer the linguine I get at Kobe's to these squiggly thin noodles that feel almost more ramen-like but not quite. I can't help but compare... and I understand that what I'm used to is probably not "authentic." Please excuse my ignorance. The veggies were pretty good but I'm used to a bit more of an al dente grilled bite versus soft. The fried rice was excellent. Very tasty! Portions are great and prices seem fair! Over all, we had a good experience here and are excited to return.

Checked out Yuji on the Beltline again, and this time I actually got to explore the food menu…read moreinstead of just drinks. Shoutout to Cooper at the bar because his service is honestly one of the reasons I wanted to come back! Yuji is perfectly placed on the Beltline and feels like an ideal spot if you're looking for quick, quality Japanese food without a ton of fuss. The inside is gorgeous and I love the outdoor seating. We originally planned to sit at the sushi bar, but once I saw Cooper behind the bar, we switched gears. I personally think sitting at the bar makes for a much more conversational experience, and I already knew the service was going to be solid. We started with drinks, and all three were really enjoyable in different ways. The Smoking Jacket was a mezcal cocktail with subtle smokiness and a silky finish from the egg white that made it very easy to sip. The Forever Summer, which is the non-alcoholic version of the Yuji Ginger Smash, leaned vanilla-forward from the pandan while the ginger and yuzu gave it a bright bite that kept it balanced. The Yuji Ginger Smash was another standout. The gin paired really well with the pandan, and the egg white gave the drink a smooth, velvety mouthfeel. For appetizers, we started with the kampachi scallop (9/10). The scallop was definitely the highlight for me. It had a much more satisfying texture and really melted in your mouth. The kampachi itself wasn't bad, but texturally it just didn't land as well for us. The fresh yellowtail (8/10) was delicate and clean with a nice kick from the serrano pepper and wasabi that kept it interesting without overpowering the fish. We also had the spicy yellowtail crudo roll (9/10), which definitely brought the heat. Thankfully, it was dressed really well, and pairing it with eel sauce helped round everything out and balance some of the spice. From there, we transitioned into nigiri, which honestly sparked the most debate between us because our opinions were all over the place. First was the madai nigiri. I gave it a 7.5/10 because the texture of the fish, combined with the hummus it was dressed with, just didn't fully work for me. J, on the other hand, really appreciated the creativity of the hummus addition and actually ended up making it his favorite nigiri with an 8.5/10. Next was the otoro, which was my first time trying it. The fish itself was incredibly buttery and truly melted in your mouth. That part completely lived up to the hype. However, we both agreed that the dressing didn't really elevate the fish much and felt a little one-note overall, so we landed at a 7.5/10. Lastly was the king salmon nigiri, and once again we couldn't fully agree. For me, this was one of the best bites of the night. The salmon was super buttery, balanced by the subtle kick from the wasabi, and beautifully finished with the black lava salt. The mouthfeel on this was honestly fantastic, 8.5/10. J appreciated the buttery texture too, but for him, the wasabi hit first and completely took over the bite, so his experience landed closer to a 7.5/10. Overall, this ended up being a really fun dining experience because we had such different reactions to certain dishes. Between the drinks, the sushi, and the bar experience, Yuji continues to be a great Beltline stop that we'd happily find ourselves back at for another round of sushi and cocktails.

Gorgeoussssss! I had my monthly girls' night out at Yuji, and I'm so glad we voted on this spot…read more I've passed it on the Beltline way too many times. It's in a very walkable area if you happen to be day-chilling on the Beltline, so parking is truly up to you. BUT if you're coming specifically for Yuji, there's a paid parking deck right next door with decent pricing (if memory serves, the first 2 hours are free, then maybe $10 after?). And if you get lucky, there's street parking! A friend and I arrived a little earlier than our group and sat at the bar for our first drink. The decor is so soft and modern, and the plush bar seats were definitely a plus. The cocktail menu was very balanced in my opinion, with something for everyone. If you have a specific taste, definitely talk to the bartender or server for guidance before ordering. I believe I had a cocktail called Smoking Jacket that was delicious! We were seated promptly at our reservation time and had a great time. I'll need to go back to try the rolls because I was too caught up in the miso soup with crab meat, the baked lobster tempura, and the fatty salmon sashimi. The only thing I would say is that service dragged near the end when we had to wait a while before receiving our checks. Everyone had been done for a while, but I also understand that restaurants have pops of business and volume, so it wasn't a big deal. Still one of my favorite sushi experiences this year!
