I see yelp treats wagaya grocery the same as the restaurant but there's a separate listing for it on Google but the grocery is in the back of the restaurant and you get to it by taking the stairs to the left of the front door down to the basement They have some items I missed from Japan that I don't recall seeing in teso like the pudding with the flap in the bottom to make it pop out Their prices are higher than stores in Duluth but could be due to area as much as anything else It's a small shop but they have a good selection! Prices here are pretty reasonable, so I'd recommend trying the place at least once! The stone bowl eel rice had that perfect crispy bottom, and pouring in the dashi broth = pure umami magic The agedashi tofu with mochi was so special -- they fry both the tofu and mochi, then serve it in a light broth. Chewy, crispy, and comforting all at once! The tonkatsu ramen had a rich, thick broth that wasn't greasy at all. Oh, and don't skip the fried ebi head -- crunchy and full of flavor! We walked in and this place was packed even with people waiting. We just KNEW it had to be bomb! We waited for about 35 minutes but went down to the grocery store just to explore. We got seated and the for our waiter Brandon who was extra cool. Very helpful in what we were looking for and helped with the menu. Th place not only had some of the best ramen I have personally tasted, but their combo items and prices are very reasonable. You won't break the bank here at all. I came to Wagaya yesterday with my partner after a long day of labor and was ravenous. The interior is very cute and snug with many wooden two top, four top, and bench tables as well as sushi bar seating. I ordered the traditional dinner set with salmon and nigiri. All of the fish in the sashimi and nigiri tasted very fresh! The vegetables in the tempura were cooked just right (you know how they can be undercooked and hard or overcooked and turn to mush). The tempura dipping sauce was also delicious. Salty, slightly sweet, not watered down at all. The salmon teriyaki was slightly overdone for my taste, but I didn't ask for a specific temperature so I really do not mind. My partner ordered the tonkatsu ramen and pork katsu combo. The ramen was all that you'd hope for in tonkatsu--salty, creamy, deeply umami. The pork katsu was picture perfect. I said to my partner it looked like a wax display. The katsu was beautifully fried and also tasted very fresh. I was very full Our server was very fast, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. I will be back very soon! read more

I have to brag! My reservation for my daughter's graduation luncheon canceled the day before her graduation. I was a nervous wreck and reached out to the owner via email of this restaurant and ask for them to make a reservation for us. They quickly replied and welcomed us for our large party. I can't tell you how wonderful it was to get a reply so quickly not to mention walking into the restaurant with our large table right in front of the window set up just for us. We felt like total VIPs. It was the perfect setting for my daughter's luncheon because she definitely loves sushi and said is all of her friends. We were all seated comfortably. We had excellent service from Henry. He cleared the plates right away, took our order made sure we were accommodated and everyone in the restaurant congratulated my daughter when she walked in I couldn't have asked for a better place to enjoy our lunch. They let us order multiple orders of sushi drinks plenty of time to relax and enjoy our luncheon. They even took our pictures for us and a lot of us to take pictures outside of the restaurant. We never felt rushed. The service was off the charts. We love the idea of shopping in the grocery store below the restaurant. I haven't been to Wagaya in awhile and my trip there recently reminded me of how much I love them! It was a big group of us and luckily they were able to sit us. They were busy on a Monday night too. Parking there could be a pain but street parking is also available. It took us awhile to figure out what we wanted to order. Wish I got our server's name but she was super patient with us. We got a bunch of sushi rolls whose names I don't remember. For my entree, I ordered the hitsumabushi. It was beautifully played that came with a big piece of fatty eel and a heaping amount of rice in a stone bowl. They provided condiments of seaweed, green onions and wasabi. Plus the dashi broth in the most beautiful pot. I ordered since to get out of my comfort zone since I always tend to order sushi; this was definitely worth getting. By the way, we dined here to celebrate a birthday and I walked in carrying a cake. They charge $50 for a cake fee but they keep the cake refrigerated and provide serving utensils. I came here while looking for some Japanese food around downtown Atlanta. I did have difficulty finding parking, but I expected that from the big city. I ended up parking at a nearby parking garage and then walking to the storefront. I got their tonkatsu ramen (with chili oil on the side) and sushi meal set that cost ~$25 at the time of this review. It came with the bowl of tonkatsu ramen, a 6-pc California roll, 6-pc sashimi (salmon, tuna, and I believe yellowtail?), and a side of rice. I thought it was a lot of food for the price considering the type of food and the location. I definitely had leftovers after the meal. I thought the tonkatsu ramen was one of the best that I've had in a while. The broth was super savory, but not too salty. The noodles were well-cooked and the ramen egg was the perfect gel-like consistency. The chashu was pretty good too, but I didn't think it was as good as the other components of the ramen. The sushi was also super fresh. The meat held together very well and there was not too much fishiness to them. If I'm in the area and am craving some sushi or ramen, I'll probably come back again to try out another set menu! read more

I absolutely love this place! The first thing I noticed that the fish was very fresh and the servers were all very friendly and accommodating. It gets pretty busy here since it's close to Georgia Techs campus but we were seated immediately and also got our food quickly. The prices here are very affordable and most of the specialty sushi rolls are between $10-20. I would highly recommend the Green Typhoon roll ($14) and the takoyaki ($6) as an appetizer. There is a free parking lot behind the restaurant but it is shared between 2 other restaurants and spots are pretty limited. But there is street parking pretty close by as well. There's also a small Japanese grocery store in the back of the restaurant that you'll see on the walk to the restaurant if you park in the lot! Apparently it's the only Japanese grocery store in midtown. Overall i had a great experience and will definitely be back to try the ramen or other sushi rolls! read more

You can find Wa-Ga-Ya at 339 14th St NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 just west of I85 - it's in the middle of a small line of connected storefronts. There's parking in the back - probably room for about 10 or so vehicles so during lunch and dinner times it's jammed up (people park on the drive climbing up the hill). We ended up parking along the street about a block away (easy walk) - the street parking appears to only be limited to evenings. Came here as a recommendation from my friend Chris who visits the Japanese market beneath the restaurant (more on that later). The restaurant is fairly small so limited seating - the day we went we stopped in after visiting the phenomenal Samurai Armor exhibit at the High (highest recommendation from me). We sat towards the front (the host stand was right behind me) - we were greeted and seated immediately. The interior has the usual Asian motif with exposed rafters and a finished ceiling over the sushi chefs The three of us went straight for lunch items and a couple of draft Sapporo - I asked for Asahi Dry but none to be found here. I sipped my wife's draft and it was surprisingly good (I should have gotten one for myself but demurred). As usual for me I sampled the spicy tonkotsu ramen (it was called "ramen + 2" on the menu and came with a few smallish rolls - California and crunchy salmon I selected from four available). The broth was very flavorful and noodles spot-on - I did find myself wanting a bit more chasu pork but otherwise quite good. My wife ordered what was basically a bento box (Nigiri Sushi Lunch - Tuna, salmon, yellowtail, shrimp plus California roll and Tempura). My wife commented on how good the tempura was and after taking a bite I agreed. Chris ordered the Nigiri Deluxe and was also very happy with it, commenting on the freshness of all the fish. In all the food was very good and the service good (our server got busy so maybe not as attentive as he could have been - no fault of his). Beneath the restaurant is a Japanese market with many items chilled for immediate consumption - I have a rather great selection available to me near my home at BufHwy Farmers Market but did spot a few things that aren't available there (much more poki selection, for instance). Nice to be able to sample cold Japanese beers - we ended up not buying but now that I know this is here I'm sure I'll visit again. read more

Takoyaki (7/10): octopus chunk was small inside, but good nonetheless! Yellowtail roll (10/10): loved the scallion addition to the roll, gave it a bit of extra flavor. Yellowtail was good, fresh. Spider roll (7/10): batter on the crab was a bit soggy, but very standard without too much rice in the roll. Service was okay, our waiter was not very attentive and I had to walk up to him to get the check. It wasn't really busy when we went, but they have lots of seating and can probably hold a larger party! It's a pretty small restaurant with a store downstairs. The service was fast and friendly. I order plum wine and when I got my cup it had lipstick on it. I know lipstick can be hard to get out of things so I just politely sent it back. I have always wants to try onigiri so we ordered that for an appetizer. I was disappointed with the amount of salmon on the inside. It was pretty much just a bunch of rice. The sushi we order was delicious though. Get the Three Jewels if you like basic rolls.
