We lived a block away from here for a year and didn't stop by until two days before we moved. That was a huge mistake. We've tried various places around Buckhead for sushi and after one visit, this became our favorite place. The menu is huge and they offer small portions of rolls so if you want to try multiple different rolls you can. Their miso soup has noodles in it and was really tasty. All the sushi tasted fresh and was nicely played. We actually ended up placing a pickup order on a day they opened late due to the ice. Totally our fault for not calling first. We visited the next day because we were still craving sushi and told them how we had placed (and paid) for an order and they immediately started to offer us solutions. We had the choice to either get a refund or bring the receipt back another day and have the order made then. We naturally came back the next day because the food was great and upon walking in the door they greeted us with a smile and immediately brought the ticket back to get our order made. Okay, okay.... I know Ru San's is not considered "authentic" sushi but honestly they don't try to be. This is a spot that saw a gap in the Buckhead market and has been capitalizing on that market, which I can certainly respect. And they do it decently, save a few things. The restaurant itself looks like it hasn't been updated or deeply cleaned in a while. They are surely clean enough to skate by any major health code violations, and seemingly don't care too much about any pretentiousness that a more sterile environment might create. So the decor is a little busted. The food was okay and satisfied a craving. Nothing spectacular. Sushi was honestly decent. Noodles were honestly not. Whatever sauce they had it in was unbearably sweet. The service I experienced here felt like a catch 22. While our server was warm and friendly, there seemed to have been some nefarious intentions behind it. I declined on a sake refill, and she brought a half order out anyways acting as if it was excess from another order. So I accepted that given that it was presented as complementary. I DESPISE when servers present things as if they are on the house, and then later try and charge you for it.... that's absolutely insane and scammer-ish. That alone will be the reason I don't come back to this place. My husband and I had long days and just wanted to eat something that felt like comfort food... we knowingly racked up a bill but ended up overpaying as we hadn't triple-checked the items. Thank God I asked for an itemized receipt, which I intuitively reviewed a day or two later. Unfortunately we had to dispute the charge here because we were definitely overcharged for drinks and other things we had never even ordered. I reached out to them hoping to resolve this before contacting my bank and was told they'd handle it on their end, and that someone would follow up with me the next day after my convo with a manager. If you're familiar with my reviews, you'll know that my ratings are based on quality, service, and value. Ru San, situated amongst a sea of pricey sushi joints, is a solid 4, but the service we received from LAN today made it an unequivocal 5 in my book. Takoyaki: a nay if you've had real takoyaki before. It was soft, pale, and doughy. So if that's your thing, the flavor was great, so have at it! Everything else was delicious, although I did miss having tofu in the miso soup (they had vermicelli noodles instead). The flavor was one of the better ones I've had, hands down, but I need that tofu! Portion sizes for the rest of our appetizers and entrees were so satisfying. The fish was fresh, and I loved the creative combinations available on the menu. We had an ice cold Sapporo and cold sake to wash everything down with. Most enjoyable of all was getting to know Lan, who's been with this restaurant for almost TWO DECADES!! Her energy, and shameless enabalism (sp?), made our dinner (celebrating 15 years together woot!) a memorably enriching experience. I haven't ordered from this place in a while, I really used to love the egg fried rice. I usually add shrimp to the order. I recently tried it again for the first time in years. I wish it had the same taste. An abundance of rice that wasn't as flavorful as before, and lacking egg. Ratio of rice to shrimp didn't really add up. Will give another try & let you all know if I experience anything different. It was the end of the night, and this order was through delivery. Hopefully I can have a better experience next time. ABHORRENT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Lady in all black, found out she is a manager, is the RUDEST PERSON I've EVER dealt with at a restaurant, especially when they were 100% in the wrong! They didn't have my order and claimed it never came in at all (I ordered directly on their website) From the start, She was intentionally being catty and aggressive with me, insinuating that I was lying about making the order, or ordered from the wrong restaurant and wouldn't tell the chefs to start making the food. I asked her 3 times if she could get the kitchen to go ahead and start making the food since I had clearly shown her my proof of ordering/paying. Y'all... SHE SAID NO!! She literally refused to tell the kitchen to start making the food because she wanted to "find out what was going on". even though according to my order confirmation emails, it should've already been ready well before I arrived. I was waiting for 15 min before she finally decided to tell the chefs to even START making my food. As a previous restaurant owner myself, this is absolutely abhorrent customer service for someone who showed you proof of the order and payment. Your first priority should be rushing that order and getting your chefs to work on it as soon as they can. The restaurant was nearly empty, so she absolutely could've prioritized it. She chose not to. If that happened under my watch, I would be offering that person at least some water or a juice or something. I was the type of owner/manager that would offer a free dessert or something for their troubles. But at the very least, BE KIND and get the kitchen to make the freaking food. After 15 min, she finally gets them to START making the food, about 20 min in I asked for a side of spicy mayo, she tells me it will cost me $1. I ask her "so even though I'm dealing with all this and waiting so long, you still want me to pay for this $1 Sauce?" And then she says with this creep smug look "well sure I could give you the sauce for free if you were actually being reasonable." I seriously felt like I was about to CRY bc it felt like this woman was intentionally trying to agitate me, bully me, and then paint me as a bad customer when I was being incredibly reasonable, and didn't say ANYTHING that whole time other than- showing receipts multiple times that I did in fact make an order and pay for it, and asking a couple times in the first 15 minutes if she could ask the chefs to start making the food. (I was soooo hungry, and I truly exercised all of the patience in my being to stay calm and keep waiting because I was too starving to leave without any food) At the end (25 min into my wait) I think she started recognizing that I was NOT going to flip out the way she was poking me to do and tried to be more normal ish, and (get this) she claimed that they DONT HAVE A WEBSITE so she doesn't know how I ordered online. Really convenient for you to say that suddenly almost 30 minutes later, when you realize that you were aggressive with me for no freaking reason, you tried to make up some random excuses. It's also the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You obviously have a freaking website. I was there for exactly 30 minutes, just waiting on a pickup order that was put in 40 min before I arrived. I should've been walking in for one minute grabbed my bag and left. As a restaurant owner myself, I understand the food business can be stressful and sometimes orders can get missed. But how it was handled by this manager was an embarrassment to the restaurant and everyone else that worked there. She is not cut out for managing in the hospitality industry. The service was excellent! big thanks to the two chefs (chef Thomas and chef/owner Fujita) and our server(Coco) for being attentive and welcoming. The ambiance was nice and chill, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy great food. As always, the food was amazing. You can't go wrong with the fresh pieces and the quality they offer at such a reasonable price. It's like having an omakase set, but instead of sitting at the bar, everything is brought right to your table. This time, I ordered a variety of items: toro, ikura, conch, scallop, sweet shrimp, mackerel, Tokyo Rose, egg sampler, and the pumpkin rock roll. I've had RuSans before maybe last year sometimes. I would come here sometime for sushi. The price is reasonable and the food pretty consistent. Lastnight, after a year, I decided to stop by. I wanted to go to Zest in Roswell, but I couldn't find parking. I normally enjoy the sushi that I get from here, but not this time. I'm not sure what it was but I brought about 16 rolls and only ate 5, I hate throwing away money but I couldn't finish it. I don't think I'll come back. For an appetizer, we got the gyoza filled with shrimp. They were very good, plenty of flavor. For entrees, I got two specialty rolls, the Mui Bueno and Widow rolls. Both were great, especially the one with the crab salad on top! My husband ordered the Beef Teriyaki dinner, which comes with miso soup, ginger salad and white rice. He also enjoyed his meal. The widow roll was fine, but the avocado looked far from fresh. Giving this a a 3/5 for freshness and value. I used to come here years ago because it was very affordable for a decent quality meal, now it's gotten more expensive than I think it is worth. It's your regular average American sushi. That being said, it's fairly priced, we didn't have to wait too long for the food, kitchen is openly viewable to customers. I personally like restaurants that have open kitchens cause it's like saying they have nothing to hide. Really impressed with this sushi spot! I am fairly new to Atlanta, so I am not very familiar with the history behind Ru-San's, but I heard that this establishment holds many memories. I went with a big group, and we sat at a long metal table by the kitchen that gave off diner vibes. The interior had some 90s decor, unlike what you'd expect from a sushi restaurant. I ordered the Rising Sun roll, which is one of their specialties and an Uni roll on the side. For the amount of food I got, I only paid $22, which I thought was a good price. The Rising Sun was really good and came with a side of spicy mayo. The fried outer shell was really filling, so I was only able to eat two of them. I am the type of person who loves fried sushi, but gets nauseous from it quickly. The Uni was great quality as well. I think it was $7, but I think that is typical for that type of roll. The waitstaff was attentive and the food came out quickly, especially given the fact that we were a group of 12 people or so. I guess this is a place to celebrate birthdays cuz there were at least three in the span of the 2 hours we were there! If you want to celebrate your birthday somewhere, Ru-San's will make a scene and give you free dessert. Great place for a quick bite, dinner, or a night out! read more

This is an unusual place. It looks like it was redone 15 years ago or so and hasn't been well kept. Very dusty fixtures and stuff everywhere. It almost looks like their moving but their not. Wait staff was friendly enough but I felt like I was an imposition. (Maybe because was dining alone. As far as food, I kept it simple. I started with the Tuna and Avocado Maki. It wasn't bad but not the best I've ever had. For my entree I got Tokyo Shoyu Ramen which is described as "Hot ramen bowl with Chuka thin noodles, fish cake, Bamboo & spinach. Topped with sautéed pork." It was pretty good but disappointment was the spinach was a big glob rather than small pieces. The sautéed pork was large slices that I didn't even try to cut and eat. The eggs were done perfectly. The yolk was not hard but was solid enough that it stayed in the white. Good flavor.
