After a long hiatus from Okiboru, my boyfriend and I decided to stop by for ramen for lunch. We started with the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer--my favorite item on the menu--and they were just as great as I remembered. Definitely did not disappoint! For my entree, I ordered the tonkotsu ramen. Unfortunately, it was a bit lackluster. I'm not sure I'd return specifically for the ramen. My boyfriend ordered the truffle shoyu ramen and also found it to be underwhelming. The ambiance has also changed since my last visit. They've replaced the middle bar area with more tables and painted over the previously drawn-on walls. The space feels noticeably darker now and lacks some of the character it once had. This is the best ramen places in Atlanta. All the ramens have been solid. I even like the sides And appetizers also. The wife got a dipping ramen. In retrospect, it was very cold outside and I think dipping ramen would be better suited for summer. The wife also felt like it was too much work and she's a lazy eater. If you dump the soup into your ramen and you added some water to it, it would taste very similar to the tonkatsu ramen. I got the tantan ramen which was amazing. The broth was very flavorful and delicious. It was rich without being too salty. I strongly believe Okiburu has over Jinya as the best ramen in ATL. Fight me. The nori garlic fries were extra crispy also. Would I come here again? Yes. It's a bit of a drive for me but it's worth it. read more

Loved the spicy chicken paitan ramen! Since I am visiting from California, the food exceeded my expectations. The server said it was the top #2 (tonkotsu being #1). I loved the spice level (medium) on a creamy base (tonkotsu-like). Noodles were thin and perfectly cooked, and chicken was thin and lean, with a lovely, light and crispy breading-- not your typical chicken karaage. My bf got the tonkotsu which he liked and felt was standard. My only criticism is that the Tan Tan ramen (that my friend) came with a small meat portion (minced pork). This spot is spacious and casual; good for small to medium groups. Prices were as expected in the $14-15 range when dining in, with medium portions (on the smallet side, but good enough for me). The quality and flavor at both locations are on par with each other as is the service. Now, I know this place is known for their ramen, but I love fries, and the garlic nori fries here are delish! Fried well and paired with a yummy garlic aioli. I always end up ordering it to start. It's nice to share and chat with friends over while waiting for the main dish: ramen. Their broths are flavorful, eggs are perfectly jammy, a good amount of protein... it was good, just not amazing. The rice bowls are filling, though the pork umami one is much oilier than expected. It didn't have that rich creamy meaty flavor. The spice was also extremely light. I also had the braised rib which was heavy soy sauce flavor forward. I wasn't a fan of it. It was fall off the bone. The restaurant has a dive bar vibe, totally different from its other two locations. Great for groups and hanging out with family. I said aloud, "I want something exceptional today". While out with the Middle and the Little, we headed to get ramen. I took the Middle for her birthday and we all enjoyed ourselves. I decided to visit the Duluth location and I'm glad I did. The service was vastly different. This location was larger and had drawing everywhere. We received our food fast here, whereas in Buckhead it took almost an hour. In contrast, the Buckhead location gives you way more soup than this location. I measured this by our to go containers. My friend recommended Okiboru and it was a blast! I was excited since they received the Michelin Bib in California, so I was expecting a good experience. Our waiter was very nice and attentive, he answered all of our questions and joked around with us! After we ordered, they kept reminding us about the kitchen closing - I appreciated that they checked in with us. We got the garlic fries to share and I got the truffle ramen with thick noodles. The shrimp was delicious and served as a good starter for two people. The ramen was solid but nothing special for both the broth and noodles. The tsukamen was absolutely wonderful. Kind of a generous 4 stars but I feel like 3 is more inaccurate. I also feel like the Michelin star is extremely inaccurate but in fairness, I didn't have the ramen since it wasn't gluten free. Which brings me to my first point-nothing is gluten free here. Nothing. The server even told us that but I thought-stupidly-he was referring to the ramen only. However, nothing on the menu is gluten free. I tried though and got the Brussels sprouts and the rice bowl with chicken. Brussels were 5 stars easy. The sauce was superb. Not sure what made them gluten full, but whatever, they were delicious. The rice bowl was much less impressive. Fried chicken, which I missed on the menu if it even said fried, and really bland ingredients. I added some leftover sauce from the Brussels which helped immensely, but a Michelin restaurant shouldn't need me to mix sauces from dishes. First we ordered 2 appetizers - the truffle garlic edamame and the Brussel sprouts. Edamame - 3 stars bc i couldn't taste the garlic much less the truffle oil. Tasted like a rip off. If there's truffle oil in there it must be diluted with mostly vegetable oil. Brussel sprouts- 5 stars bc the sauce was so good and the pickled onions were the perfect accompaniment. Next came our entrees. I ordered the tofu ramen and my husband ordered the chicken and rice dish. Tofu Ramen - 4 stars bc the noodles were the highlight and the broth though good was not exceptional much less Michelin level good. I couldn't rate how authentic it is but I know I've had better in GA, NY & even FL ffs. Chicken & rice bowl - 3 stars per my Yelp Elite husband. We knew they didn't have gluten free noodles so he went with this option and it was painfully average to him (from NY). So just manage your expectations here. I'm used to tip being automatically added for parties bigger than six. However, I ordered for three of us and the tip was already included. Mint lemonade: A House-made, tart, and refreshing. The mint is present but not overpowering. Exactly what I hoped for. Garlic nori fries: A+ The unexpected standout. Incredibly crisp with bold, garlic- and umami-forward flavor. Portion size was ideal: generous enough to share, but still manageable as a starter. Easily exceeded expectations. Yuzu chintan tsukemen (cold noodles) with chicken and side of chili paste: A-/B+ Went for something lighter than the paitan because of the heat. The chintan is thinner and doesn't cling as well to the noodles, which some reviews have previously mentioned. That part was expected. Portion size was solid. The biggest drawback was the lack of yuzu flavor. It was faint, which is disappointing for a dish built around it, and especially so for a yuzu fan like me. The spinach and chives actually had more punch. The chintan broth is very subtle overall, with the most flavor coming from the fish and chicken elements used to make it. The chicken was also mild. I would have liked more crispiness or seasoning to contrast with the muted broth. Thankfully, the side of chili paste helped a lot and added some much-needed depth and heat. The soy-marinated egg was jammy and perfect, just as expected. Noodles were good too and met expectations. I had the thick noodles, which come with this dish by default. (I was initially hoping that they might have seasonal matcha noodles on the menu, but they weren't there which was fine.) I had high expectations with all the Michelin buzz, and this dish didn't quite meet them. Still enjoyable, just not quite the knockout tsukemen I hoped for. Pro tip: Dip your noodles fully and stir gently. That brings more yuzu flavor to the surface. Dipping too shallowly will leave you with oily noodles that lack flavor. Ambiance: A Very casual but cool. I sat near the graffiti wall and liked reading the messages while I ate. Great spot for a solo diner on a tight schedule. Got busy fast so I'm glad I arrived at opening time for dinner. Service: A Friendly and quick. No complaints! Price/Value: A Good value for your money. No absurd pricing. Overall: A (4.75/5) Glad I tried it. I'd come back to try the paitan and see how it compares. I've visited this location a couple times and my experiences were very different from each other. The first time I went, I ordered Tonkotsu Ramen and Crispy Gyozas. While nothing tasted bad, it just wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked. I did appreciate the aesthetics with the bar in the middle, cherry blossom decorations, and doodles throughout the restaurant. The second time I went, my friend ordered some ribs as an appetizer to share and I got the Spicy Tori Paitan. The ribs were PHENOMENAL. They were amazingly tender and had a wonderful flavor. My order tasted great as well. I don't typically order spicy dishes, but this was definitely a dish I would come back for. However, the decor was completely gone from my last visit. I don't know if they are remodeling, but the whole bar area and cherry blossom aesthetic was removed.
