Beef Entree

Came back to J's Mini Hot Pot with my boyfriend and we both enjoyed it! We have very different taste preferences, he prefers very spicy while I prefer a mild broth and adding spice on the back end, so it was perfect that we could each have our own pot. I went with the Beef Bone broth this time, as it was no upcharge. I will say, tasting the broth alone didn't taste like much, so just be prepared to add flavor from making your own sauce. The service here is great - they're fast, attentive, and regularly check in on you. Our server packed all of our food to go in an organized manner. It was so nice to enjoy our food, not have to worry about packing it, and then leaving with neatly packed to-go bags. I love love love that they provide complimentary aprons! It's so helpful and a great plus on the customer experience. Will continue to keep this place on my radar due to the good food and service! The pricing is also pretty decent - my entree was $23.99 pre-tax + tip. It's a massive amount of food!

I visited J's Mini Hot Pot with my coworker for my first ever hot pot experience and I'm hooked! We arrived early in the evening and were greeted immediately. We chose our table and the waitress gave us a run down of the extensive menu. I ordered the miso broth, the combo of peeled shrimp & angus brisket, and udon noodles. I was so impressed by the amount of fresh vegetables they provide. I definitely ate all the cabbage and spinach and gave the other vegetables a taste. The shrimp and brisket was fresh and complimented the broth perfectly. My favorite part of the experience is definitely the plethora of sauces they provide. We were there for at least two hours just savoring all the tastiness. There's so many different combinations that you can make for your hot pot so I know I'll definitely be back.

I finally tried hot pot for the first time, and it was an amazing introduction! It has that authentic, "hole-in-the-wall" feel that I love. Despite the great atmosphere, there was no wait time when I arrived, which was a great surprise. The Highlights: They have a Halal menu (you just have to ask for it!) and a massive sauce station. As someone who loves me a good sauce bar, this was easily my favorite part. The Vibe: It feels very genuine and tucked away. I typically like to visit a place a few times to get a truly well-rounded experience, and since I've only been once, I'm definetly planning my next trip back to try more. Bottom Line: If you're looking for a low-key, authentic hot pot spot with Halal options, definitely give this place a try.

Halal Food Alert | J's Mini Hot Pot Looking for a halal-friendly hot pot spot? Each guest gets their own personal hot pot, making the experience both interactive and customizable. The ingredients were super fresh and beautifully presented. The marbled beef and lamb slices literally melted into the broth, the enoki mushrooms added a great texture, and the dumplings were soft, delicate, and packed with flavor. Bonus: the herb selection added refreshing aromatics that elevated the whole experience. But what truly stood out was the service, friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for a family dinner, casual hangout, or even a solo foodie adventure. We paid $180 for 5 people -- totally worth it for the quality, quantity, and halal assurance. Already looking forward to our next visit!

Friends for lunch, the place we can all agree on.

My family and friends have been coming here for over 15 years. Best customer service and quality of ingredients. You won't find broth and sauces as good what they have here. I drive 45 mins one way and it's worth it.

Vegetarian hot pot with mushroom broth

I was so excited to go eat hot pot since I love soup. My friend brought me here to have a fun experience while eating delicious food. As we entered the place we got greeted by the lovely servers. Everyone was so nice and so on point. We sat on our table and ordered, I got the vegetarian hot pot with the mushroom broth. I was very surprised to see how much food they gave but was very happy to eat it. We were also able to bring some soju (there is a corkage fee) since they don't sell it there and it went so well with the food. The overall ambiance of the place was very chill and happy. I enjoyed eating here a lot.

J's Mini Hot Pot has never disappointed me. This place offers high quality ingredients, meats, and even wagyu! From a variety of broths to choose from and entrees, J's Mini Hot Pot delivers an exceptional hot pot experience. The waitresses are nice, efficient, and--most importantly--hospitable. With this duluth location being newly built last year (2023), the place is spectacular. The floor, table, interior decor, everything is new and shiny. Definitely a top 3 hot pot spot in Duluth!

We all got the beef. My son and husband got the beef bone broth. I got the miso broth. It comes with an assortment of veggies, tofu, noodles, fish ball etc. You can add all sorts of noodles, vegetables, meats, and seafood. The sauce bar is kept well stocked and tidy. The restaurant is comfortable and well lit. Service was nice. Great dinner experience on a cold day!

This place reopened since the COVID shut down and it's soooo beautiful inside! I did notice a 3-5$ increase in prices but still okay and worth the experience. We got chicken hot pot "combos" where it comes with chicken hot dogs, Napa cabbage, taro, potato, egg, mushroom, pickles, spinach, radish daikon, tofu in diff forms, potato noodles (clear) and lots of slices of chicken. You choose your broth and I chose vegetarian - $22-ish - 5/5 The sauce bar is where you can customize your dipping sauce very clean! They no longer give the shaved ice dessert at the end instead we were given a little yogurt drink like authentic hot places back home do! I will def be back again and again, customer service 5/5

Came here for lunch last week. We ordered the beef bone soup, herbal soup, clam and meat combo, seafood hot pot. Seafood and meat was fresh served on ice. I really like that. Presentation is beautiful as well. Portion wise is perfect and more than enough vegetables. I like my vegetables so it was great. Black milk tea with grass jelly was so good. I like that the teas were on mason jars with handles. Service was great; attentive; and quick to refill our soup base once we run out. Nicely renovated since I haven't been back here for few years. This is great portion hot pot. I was definitely stuffed to the max. Many choices on the menu. You can order a la carte if you only want to eat certain foods or picky. There are even vegetarian options.

Ask the Community - J's Mini Hot Pot

How would you order of you don't eat everything in the variety bowl that it comes with? Would you just choose soup, meat, and then order individual sides? Seems like that would quickly add up.

If it's one or two things they'll let you sub something else that already comes on the platter. Example, I don't like tomato or egg. So I say no tomato or egg but could I please have extra enoki and oysters mushrooms and they do.

What are the vegan options available?

Yes, they offer just potatoes/radish/vegetable entrees.

How is dining here once restaurants were allowed to reopen after COVID 19 restrictions were relaxed?

Very vibrant and busy. The food is great and the seating options is very limited during rush hour.

Service: 5/5 Food: 3.5-4/5…read moreAmbiance: 4 We were seated very quickly. The menu was short and simple with lunch menus that were pretty well priced. The store itself was not clean. Some of the furniture were stained/coming apart, the restroom was littered with trash/did not have paper towels. We opted for the SESAME CHICKEN + KUNG PAO CHICKEN + PAN FRIED PAO PORK. The sesame chicken was not crispy fried and the sauce was very sweet. The kung pao chicken was a taste that I've never had in this dish ... sweet with a little bit of spice. The pan fried dumplings were okay as well- not the best I've had but okay. In general, this was an okay food stop but I do not see myself driving purposely over here to eat.

We tried the soup dumplings, which didn't have as much broth as expected, and a chicken and shrimp dish that was supposed to be spicy but came out tasting pretty sweet instead. When we mentioned it to our server, they offered chili oil, which was nice, but I would've preferred to experience the dish as it was intended. The interior is simple and it works fine as a spot for a quick bite. That said, I was specifically craving solid Szechuan flavors, and there are definitely better options nearby if that's what you're looking for. But worth a try if you're in the area or as takeout food too!

TLDR: good service, moderate size portions, full flavor…read more Came for a weekend dinner with a friend. It was in the middle of dinner time but there were plenty of tables. We were greeted quickly at both the door and table. For a dumpling house, there weren't that many options for dumplings. We order two types of dumplings, a noodle dish and an entree on recommendation of the staff. The pork soup dumplings were very soupy on the inside and had a good flavor. The pan fried bao dumplings were alright but morning to write home about; I thought the bun to filling ratio was good for a bao though. For noodles we got the house rice noodles. I typically don't order this but I thought it was really well done with a good ratio of ingredients and flavor. Lastly we ordered the sales egg pork ribs. They were cut to bite size pieces but that's deceptive since they were bone in. Some pieces were all bone and some all meat. While the flavor was good, some might call it dry and the cut made it difficult to eat. While the seasoning for all the dishes were flavorful, I thought the salt was a little heavy. Overall the restaurant was clean with a semi modern decor. The staff were all friendly and tried to be helpful throughout the visit. I'd give it a try if you're in the neighborhood.

Ordering is via tablets at the table. We instructed the staff to bring it out as the kitchen finished it since we were sharing like tapas style. Service is top notch. The eggplant was amazing. The pork belly had more fat than I would prefer but that's a personal preference. The Peking duck was really good. Not quite as good as a hole in the wall I ate at in Beijing but it was a great Christmas dinner that wasn't routine. The menu is extensive and you really can't go wrong with the variety.

PEKING DUCK - $43.95 It's the same 2-course meal where they will bring the whole roasted duck and then slice in front of you, then serve w/ the crepe wraps, thinly sliced onions and cucumbers, and hoisin sauce. The crispy skin is the best part, yum! For the 2nd course, we did the salt-n-pepper stir fry ... next time we'll just do the regular stir fry. As you can see from the photo, there really wasn't that much meat in the stir fry, everything felt pretty charred, and what meat was there was super salty. The first course was the highlight! FYI they charge $5 if you order more wraps. JAPANESE TOFU CLAY POT - $19.95 This was so delicious - they use silken tofu so it just melts in your mouth. The sauce includes minced pork too - very good w/ rice! I loved this dish! STIR FRIED YU CHOY - $18.95 We wanted some greens - I thought it was just ok. BRAISED CHICKEN W/ GINGER - $22.95 Good flavor but it's boned chicken and there are also tiny bone bits throughout ... we found it stressful to eat b/c you really have to be careful. I wouldn't order this again. Overall great spot for family-style dining. Very extensive menu - almost overwhelming! FYI they charge $5 for tea. Our server was very helpful and honest w/ his recommendations - thank you!

The restaurant has a cute interior with a main dining area and private rooms, and everything was very clean. We didn't have to wait long to order, and our food came out quickly. We ordered a variety of dishes, though I don't remember all the names. * Peking duck * Stir-fried beef * Pork * Fish * Vegetables Everything was flavorful, and the portions were generous--perfect for sharing family-style. My favorite was the sweet rice cake dessert, though I don't know its exact name. I highly recommend coming here with family or friends, as the round tables make for great conversation. The food is delicious, the portions are big, and the prices are worth it. I've eaten here multiple times and always enjoy coming back!

The clams weren't the freshest, but the flavor was still there. Rice noodles were fine, nothing crazy. The snow pea tips were a standout with perfect texture and clean flavor. We started with the Fuqi Feipian, which was on the salty side but otherwise pretty standard. The Seafood Shark Fin Soup was surprisingly bland, as if no salt had been added. We had to add red vinegar just to bring out some flavor, and it could have used more white pepper and seasoning overall. Next was the stir-fried squid with vegetables (I forgot the exact name). It included scallions, taro strips, and red peppers, but the taste was fairly average. The sweet and sour pork (Lychee Pork) was close to the Fujian-style flavor I'm familiar with, though the sauce was a bit light and not as tangy or sweet as expected. We also ordered the seafood fried rice noodles, which were very mild in flavor and lacked wok hei. It felt under-seasoned, almost like the seasoning was forgotten again. One standout dish was the red fermented rice pork intestines with snow peas, a classic Fujian specialty. The red fermented rice flavor really came through, and this dish was definitely worth supporting. The crispy roast duck was another highlight--crispy skin, juicy meat, and served with steamed pancakes, shredded cucumber, scallions, and sweet bean sauce. Very satisfying in every bite. The restaurant also offered complimentary orange slices at the end, which was a nice touch. Portions were generous, prices were reasonable, and overall it was a fairly filling meal. If you enjoy Fujian-style cuisine, it's worth giving this place a try.
