I went to this resturant for the first time because I wanted a bowl of soup. The concept is nice, "to pick your fresh vegetables", but you have to cook the soup dish yourself. You pick your soup base and then you have to select a minimum of $20.00 worth of vegetables. If you have leftovers, you cannot take home the special sauce that you made from the bar. The staff does not allow the used portion of your sauce for ''dipping the vegetables'' to be taken home for your leftovers. The soup bowl ends up being about 30.00. It is quite expensive for an okay meal that you have to cook. read more

Love the individual mini pots! Being from Chicago, we had tons of hotpot options. However, none of them had small pots like at J's. Perhaps this came out of necessity due to COVID, but I love it! I haven't been back to Chicago since 2020, but I'll keep y'all updated of any mini hot pot spots there too when I go back. The manager (and owner?) J was sooo nice. There were several servers as well and 2 of them were instantly friendly while the 3rd one had to warm up to us. Regardless, we aren't new to hotpot so it was fine. I really liked that we were able to share on entree option with adding side orders. And my husband and I both got our own pots. The options were plentiful. The meats were good quality. The sauce bar had all the fixings plus some pre-made sauces in case you don't know what sauce you might like. The one and only con I have is that I felt the broth was rather watered down. We chose beef broth instead of chicken so I don't know if the chicken is better. We will definitely be back! read more

Been here about six times now and the quality and service is still above and beyond. Took a party of 12 here and they sat us right away. Mainly because we got there before the big dinner rush. Everyone order different things. Some got the a la carte and others did the entrees. And we had pretty much every broth between us all. Note the Szechuan broth has the peppercorns inside. So if you bite them they can cause your mouth to feel weird The a la carte veggie portions are good enough for 2-3 people. The meat you order is sliced fresh and then brought to the table, which is nice. Other hot pot places don't do this. Also the pork dumplings are some of the best. This was the first time here and really our first family mini hot pot experience. It took some maneuvering to figure out what we wanted off the menu, and then when all the food came out it was surprising at how much was included! You pick your broth, and then the basic order comes with huge plate of vegetables and meats for each person. You can add on additional meats and vegetables for an extra charge, but really if you're going for the first time just order it off the menu without anything extra so you can actually see how much food you're going to get. If you're not a veggie eater, then you're going to want to get some other meats. Each plate of meat is enough to share with two people, keep that in mind. The meal comes with what they call a sweet potato noodle, which really is a clear noodle once cooked. I thought it was totally fine but if you wanted to add on a different noodle, like Ramen, you can do that but there's an extra charge. Don't be afraid of the kids menu when you go because the kids get a ton of food at a great price. There's also a bar where you self-serve different sauces, green onion, garlic, sesame oil, etc. You just pour your sauces in a bowl and use it to dip your meat and vegetables in while you eat. The next part here is where you cook your own food. You have your own boiling pot of broth that you cook all your stuff in and then eat as you go. Hence, the reason this is called a mini hot pot is because each person has their own mini pop to cook in. The wait staff will bring more broth to keep it full for as you eat. Overall it was a fantastic experience. I felt we ate a very healthy meal which is great. When it's cold outside, a hot pot is really ideal. We'll definitely be back. read more

We came on a Friday, and it wasn't very busy. There was plenty of room. I usually like local restaurants more than chain restaurants, but I think my experience at the chain hot pot restaurant Haidilao was much better than J's Mini Hot Pot. The best thing about the restaurant is that they have individual hot pots, which is great for COVID because of reduced sharing. The portion size is quite large for the vegetables. The meat size was average, and the sauce bar was fine, but seemed to be missing some sauces that you'd expect, such as sesame oil. The meal came with a free shaved ice dessert, and I chose the red bean flavor, which was a nice touch. We had a group of 4, but was automatically charged a $4 service fee per person, and then we were asked to tip even more. read more

I like that that it's an individual mini hot pot! This makes it more affordable compared to some other places, while still being a good portion of food. You get a good assortment of vegetables and can also get other veggies or meat a la carte. I also like that you can get meat combos, so you can have even more variety. The only downside is that if that you can't necessarily pick and choose what you want within your hot pot outside of the meet, which can suck if there's some items you're not into. The service here is really good! They're all very friendly people. I liked that there's a sauce bar as well as some pre-made sauce options too. Though I thought the options were kinda limited. It looks like they have done some renovations since I was last here a couple years ago. The food selection here is great and you get plenty for your money's worth. I like that everyone gets their own mini hotpot and can pick their own broth instead of sharing family style. My mom and I opted for the wagyu steak combo on this visit, it including another selection of meat, seafood, veggies, egg and a drink. Typically it's $98 per person, but they had a special for 50% off and it was so worth it! I do also like their milk teas. Overall 5/5: Came in to celebrate my 21st birthday with my family! Our go-to hot pot spot. We've been coming here for years and we've never had a bad experience. Food 5/5: The set up is choose your broth and your meat combo which is a plate of meat and sides of vegetables. Then you get your own individual broth set up in front of you. I always get the chicken broth with the meat and tripe combo and sub the noodles out for yellow noodles. You get such an great assortment of vegetables. The amount of meat you get for the combo is such a good amount. Great meal for a great deal, you'll be full after for sure. Service 5/5: Always great service. Everything comes out timely, they always make sure your water is refilled as well as your broth. Plates are always cleared off promptly, so there's never too much clutter on the table. The most recent time we went it was my birthday so they had changed the music on the speaker to happy birthday, and sang to me. Then they let you choose out of a bucket to win a prize for next time you come in! I drew two free drinks at my next visit. Environment 4/5: Not the cleanest or the newest. I enjoy it best on a cold and/or rainy day, so naturally, the hubs and I found ourselves here one cold, rainy Saturday night. The parking was pretty full when we arrived, but we still managed to find a spot. The restaurant was busy, but we were greeted and seated immediately. Their menu offers various protein combinations, including meat combo (2-3 meats), seafood combo, as well as vegetarian options. This location usually has drink specials, which they are really good about mentioning. We ordered the following: Taro Milk Tea with grass jelly (16oz.) $3.25 Honeydew Milk Tea with grass jelly (16oz.) $3.25 Meat Combo (pork and beef $15.95 Seafood Hot Pot $17.95 Fried Tofu $3.50 They were out of bubble toppings, so we went with grass jelly instead. The drinks were sweet and refreshing. Combinations come with a variety of vegetables and a few other proteins (raw egg, tofu, hotdog, etc). There's usually so much that we can't finish the sides. I ordered the meat combo with beef bone. It was delicious and went perfectly with their vegetarian sauce. I love it with the thin, glass noodles. I had a couple of bites of my hubs' seafood in vegetarian broth and that, too was good. We also enjoyed the fried tofu. We had so much food we had to take some to go. HOW IT WORKS- you select a meat choice + broth choice + noodle choice. Everyone gets a big platter/bowl or vegetables. Came here for Father's Day 2021. We all liked our broth, meat choices, and sauces. It was my second time coming to J's mini hot pot. Last time I went to Chamblee. I noticed two differences. 1) they give you vegetables in different shapes plates/bowl. Duluth does plates and it takes up a lot of room on your table although you can ask for a candle stand that helps with that. Chamblee gives you vegetables in bowls. 2) Duluth charged extra for noodles like udon or ramen. Last time I went to Chamblee April 2021, they did not charge but it could have been a mistake or a special they were running. Everyone was near and clean and staff was amazing. I highly recommend their house sauce. I think that's the best one. If you want to be fancy, take the egg they give you (it comes with the plate of veggies) scramble it in a sauce dish and dip your hot meat that just came out of your boiling broth in it. read more

I absolutely LOVE this spot. This is one of those hot pot places where you order your soup base and meats/veggies and they bring you boil/cook everything at your table. The broths where are stupidly fantastic. I always get the Spicy broth now, but have had the miso broth, and beef broth, and all were hearty delicious broths! The service here is the absolute best. Crystal, Joey, and all the rest are super attentive and are there to help you. On my first visit here, Crystal asked if I knew what sauces I liked (because they have a sauce bar that you can use to change the flavor of your soup and dip some of your cooked veggies and meat into) and I kind of balked. She asked me to explain what sort of flavors I liked and once I told her, she was like...I got it. She came back with a couple of bowls of mixed sauces and they were FANTASTIC! And at the end of the meal she came back and asked if I wanted a soup refill and I declined and said I was full. She then suggested...if you get a refill now and let it stew a little with the sauce, then you have lunch tomorrow because you can take it to go! BRILLIANT IDEA! That is above and beyond great service! At this point, I've come back to this place so many times that it's almost embarrassing. What an HONOR to have eaten here before quarantine began. I believe J's Mini Hot Pot was my last experience in an actual restaurant, and I must say it was FABULOUS. I met a friend here for lunch, so we both ordered from the lunch menu. It was affordable, fresh and delish. Full of veggies and I think you could choose two types of meat. I chose the lean beef, and we split the shrimp paste. I don't think the shrimp paste is my favorite thing in the world, but it was an interesting add! We also both ordered bubble tea. Yesssssss is the only answer one gives when asked to come to this place. So many options and flavors even the pickiest person can find a great meal here. They specialize in soups and broths. I usually get the spicy vegetarian and mixed vegetables. I have added fish on one of my visits, and had a seafood version on another of my visits. I've never been let down. I usually also get the egg noodles. I just like how they hold up in the broth more than the rice noodles. Be sure to ask what the drink special is. I'm in love with the watermelon one. For a second, I thought J's Mini Hot Pot was closed for good. But, they were just going under construction and they have opened back up again!! They completely renovated the entire place and it looks so sleek and marbled! I got the Lamb Entree and it was my first time trying this one. Usually I would get the Beef Entree, but the Lamb did not disappoint at all!!! For my sauce, I always do their House Special Sauce with Xxtraa jalapeños, garlic, sesame sauce, and cilantro. The food and sauce was good as usual, but they were understaffed, so it took them a minute to take our order. They also took the orders of people who came in after us, but I understand they did not have enough servers and the place was packed! Luckily we went at a good time because 30 minutes after we were sat, the wait became a 30-45 minute wait. Overall, it was a delicious meal and our server was very nice! Me and my friends came here for a late lunch. Parking was spacious and it wasn't busy. I ordered seaweed salad for appetizer and it was good. I had all seafood with bone broth as the base. I didn't really remember my sauce concoction but it was tasty. Seafood wasn't fresh but because it was in a hot pot, it was tolerable. Broth wasn't good at first, I wasn't enjoying it. I ordered the beef broth with beef as my meat, and was surprised with how much food came with my order! I will most likely split this next time & just pay for an extra hot pot. I ordered a side of the spicy shrimp paste so my broth had a kick to it since I love spicy food. The place had over a dozen fifferent sauces to add to your broth or dip your meat in, such as spicy thai sauce, sweet sauces, sour sauces, salty sauces, coconut sauces, garlic, cilantro, ect. What is a hot pot? It is a restaurant where you are given a variety of RAW ingredients and a pot of boiling liquid. You are expected to cook everything yourself. If this is your first time I would bring someone with experience with you or at least give yourself some extra time to get familiar with the cooking process. My boyfriend and I came her some months ago. I've only really had hot pot at home with my mom, so it was a little scary to try a restaurant but this place is great! I think the portions are good, and the variety that they give you to put in is great. Everything I love putting in my hot pot is there. Our waitress was super nice and helpful, as my boyfriend expressed he'd never had hot pot before. She even asked us if we wanted a sauce she could make, and she went over and mixed a few sauces together and made something super yummy. I'm not sure if it was an owner, or a manager, but she came over and was kind enough to check up on us and make conversation. Since it was awhile ago, I can't remember if it was a host or her, but someone gave me an apron because I was wearing a white shirt. Heart break ! That's the only way to describe my feelings about this place. We have been dining here regularly since over 3 years and we were in LOVE with the food. For hot-pot this is THE place to go if you are in Atlanta area. But something weird happened over last weekend. My gripe is not about the food but the experience we had. As usual food was reliable and up to our satisfaction. At the end we were handed the receipt saying the gratuity is charged already! They did not give us choice to tip them according to their service. To start with it is a hot pot that gests cook themselves. After initial one time set up there is limited service required if compared with traditional restaurant. In spite of that we tip them regardless but this was over the top. See image attached. On asking why did they charge 18% gratuity without consent, we were told the usual excuse of COVID-19! We asked for manager and even she said there is labor shortage, change of management and Blah-Blah-Blah. I am aware that there is labor shortage, inflation is in double digit, supply chain is disrupted for many supplies, and many businesses are feeling the heat. My concern is the way they are asking customers to pay for it. I would be happy to pay if they change their prices on menu and we know ahead of time what we are getting into. This felt like a sly way of making money. Not a fan! If there is new management they should take a note of it. I still like your food but this new practice has to stop. read more

We wet to J's for our first hot pot experience. I had the vegetable broth (paid the hot and spicy upcharge) and mixed vegetable plate. I also upgraded to ramen noodles. My husband got the Szechuan broth and vegetable plate. We loved the variety of sauces and add-ins at the self serve bar. The premixed sauces were awesome for dipping cooked veggies in. We ordered the day's drink special: two green milk teas with boba. I think for like $4.50? Yummy and came with a lot! Staff was really friendly and helpful. Water glasses were quickly refilled as was the broth in our hot pots when it got lower. I had plenty of veggies left to take home. The server topped off my broth, I cooked the rest of the veggies and she packaged it all up for me. Best work lunch ever! Spicy Broth with ALL the veggies - shrimp dumplings, tofu (the fried tofu is perhaps fried in fish sauce? It wasn't my favorite because it was unexpected... so I'll order unfried next time.) A super great experience and with fall finally arriving in Atl I can see myself here probably weekly! I'm a big fan of J's Hotpot. We used to always dine at Mini Hotpot on Buford Highway and when another location opened up we started coming here because it was more spacious and accommodated for bigger parties. Then this location changed its business name to J's Hotpot. We still kept coming. This restaurant is located in a small shopping strip on Pleasant Hill Rd...pretty close to the HMart plaza. The place gets pretty busy so I would advise coming early. Everyone gets their own pot and can choose the broth preference (beef, chicken, vegetable, etc). My go to is either the beef or vegetable. You can also order some other stuff a la carte such as the fish balls, etc. he portions are very generous here. The round platter is loaded with pieces of napa cabbage, clear glass Noodles, etc. They also have a sauce station where you can build your own concoction. The sauce is unlimited here. J's serves dishes if you're not in the mood for hotpot. I like how they give complimentary shaved ice dessert. The only downfall is that the servers tend to be a bit scarce. Extra broth is free so make sure if you need more broth or refills on drink to flag a server down. read more

I really enjoyed the Hot Pot experience. J's was highly recommended by friends of mine, and I'm glad they were there to help explain how everything worked. There are built-in bowls at each chair, and once you choose a broth (I opted for the spicy Schezuan) your friendly server will set it to boil in front of you. After that, your noodles, veggies, and proteins will arrive. GOOD LORD is it ever a lot of food!!! Typically I don't mind interactive dining experiences. I love fondue and shabu. Hot pot was a little different, and I didn't really know what everything was or how long to give it in the broth. Definitely appreciate that this place is pretty darn authentic, but I felt kind of lost in there. Loved the complimentary shaved ice after the meal though! read more

We truly enjoyed our meal here. We had the meat combo and chose the Lamb and Beef, my son chose the beef and pork. The amount of vegetables that came with it was great. They have a nice selection of sauces from the sauce bar, and my son used it to make the beef bone broth a little more flavorful by adding some soybean paste, garlic, and soy sauce to it. We only added more Napa cabbage and rice as an extra side. The service was great, and they kept our pot full of broth, and cups full of water. It was a chilly night, perfect hot pot weather! My sis and I decided to eat here for our pre-Thanksgiving meal since we won't be together for the holidays. It was pretty busy for a Monday, but we were sat right away at the very last table in the back. (Which I didn't mind, I love my privacy!) The waitress took our order promptly. My sister ordered the #13: Beef tendon ball & meat combo. She opted for lamb as her meat choice. I got the #14: Shrimp & meat combo, with beef as my choice of meat. We also ordered the Fuzhou fish ball (Fish ball with meat filing) as a side. All hotpot options come with a huge plate of vegetables. Spinach, Napa cabbage, & clear glass noodles were aplenty, a few enoki & oyster shrooms, tofu, and then 1 piece each of other various veggies, a hotdog, & egg. You get to choose your own broth and cook it in a cute mini individual hot pot right at the table. We both got the clear beef bone broth. Pro tip: Get one of the free broths (Beef bone, chicken, or vegetarian) and add your own flavorings from the sauce bar! Speaking of the sauce bar, I went 3 times haha...there are wide variety of sauces and toppings to choose from so you can mix & match and create your own concoction. I mixed a bunch of stuff together (Like 10 things lmao) to create an epic umami packed dipping sauce! Everything came out with virtually no wait and the service was excellent.
