This place confirms my rule that the best-tasting food comes from a cook who looks like someone's parent or grandparent and is in a slightly dingy place. We ordered chicken with Shanghai bok choy that was as good or better than any I've had in Chinatown in SF. Super garlicky and that "cooked in a hot wok" Cantonese flavor that I crave. It wasn't greasy, the chicken was white meat, and it was incredibly hot and fresh. The icing on the cake - a great portion and price. We will return anytime we are in the area! Tip for anyone who likes shellfish: buy your lobster or crab from the market (sometimes on excellent sale) and bring it raw and in the bag. They will clean and cook it for you Hong Kong style - it's just $6/lb. Tried Red Lantern today for the first time. Being in a food court, you order and pick up at the counter. The lady at the counter taking our order was very nice and efficient. The restaurant was super busy and had lots of take out and catering orders as well which was a good sign. Our server told us it was busy and our order may take longer than usual; it was worth the wait! We got fish with black bean sauce first and were pleasantly surprised. The fish dish was filled with fresh peppers and onions with tender white fish in a delicious brown sauce and served with rice. Excellent dish. Our second dish was seafood ho fun (flat rice noodles). This dish was served fresh and piping hot with shrimp, squid, fish, green veggies, and black mushroom along with other ingredients server on top of a bed of broad rice noodles. This is our favorite American style Chinese restaurant in all of Georgia. It's run by a little Vietnamese grandma that's sassy and really sweet. We haven't found a single dish that isn't delicious. With all of the authentic Chinese restaurants in the Duluth area finding really good New York style Chinese food is actually really difficult. Her sesame chicken is fantastic. I'm not sure this is the name of this restaurant. The plaza appears to be mostly Vietnamese and the name was Vietnamese. The beef and broccoli were good but not any better than most places. It was more of a takeout than a restaurant. I did enjoy the comparison of American broccoli vs Chinese broccoli since I had never had Chinese broccoli. I think next time I would try the pork. This restaurant is located inside of the City Farmers Market food court in Duluth I was craving Mongolian beef but the front register staff said they can't alter the rice plate and only what's on the menu is what they can offer with rice. I settled on the House Special rice plate ($13.95) which comes with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Surprisingly there was a lot of beef, shrimp, and only couple of pieces of chicken. The sauce was savory and the meats were tender and tasted fresh. The shrimp had no aqua fishy smell as well. My only con is I didn't find the price point ($14ish total) to be something I'd frequently want to pay for a take out type place like this vs somewhere else. All in all though, food is worth a try! First things first - YES, you should order here!! The food is so delicious, fresh, and as close to Vietnamese/Chinese food as I've had in Gwinnett Co. Follow the signs outside, the food court is located on the left side and there's parking right at the door on the side of the building if you want to get in and out fast. I'd also recommend ordering ahead via phone call so long as you know what you want. If you don't know what you want, they have plenty of pictures of their food on the wall! Also, Vietnamese friendly. Can definitely take your non English or non Chinese speaking family here and they'd feel comfortable enough to order! I really appreciated that. The cashier was very friendly and lit up when she realized I was viet. FOOD: I got the beef chow fun and the salt and pepper tofu. Beef chow fun has the smokiness from the wok and the tofu was perfectly seasoned, albeit I wouldn't recommend getting this to go as it won't be as crispy. Even slightly soft, still great flavors. Cheap for portion size and flavor/authenticity. 5 stars for this style of Chinese food - aka Chinese food you would want at a wedding or home style. I bought 2 Live Lobsters at City Farmers Market and brought it over to Katy Ha the owner of Red Lantern that is inside the grocery store. Katy recommended to cook two different styles of lobster. Their food stall area was nice and clean and you can clearly see their food menu on the wall with pictures. Customer service was great, the lady took my order and my food came out quick. I come here almost biweekly and I will always willingly make the 45 minute drive and go out of my way to come here when I want to eat Chinese food. She also does catering! For very reasonable price. In comparison to other Chinese restaurants in the area, the meat to rice ratio was on the almost nothing scale. I think pricing was expensive for just colored rice, some chicken specks and almost no beef.
