Food: Tonkotsu Ramen - great choice. Pork is nice and juicy and always love the soft boiled eggs mixed into the broth. Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen - our hands down favorite. The depth of flavors with a nice spicy kick. If you like spicy, then def recommend over the regular non-spicy version. Umami Chicken Rice Bowl - nothing too special. A good choice for kids. Has some veggies like spinach & cucumber. A bit on the blander side (a bit more sauce would be better). We ended mixing some of the ramen broth which made it better. Service/Ambience: Music isn't too loud and like their wall decor which is pictures drawn by customers. It's a nice low key spot but can get very busy during peak hours. Service is always pleasant. Today I had the pleasure of trying Okiboru Tsukemen and Ramen, and I must say, I was very happy with the experience. The restaurant has a cozy and inviting atmosphere, and the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. Now, let's talk about the food. The Paitan tsukemen here, which is a noodle you dip in broth (sort of like zaru soba) is excellent! The broth is rich and flavorful, and the noodles are perfectly cooked. There is a cold and hot option, we opted for the latter so I can't speak to the quality of the cold option The portions are also generous, so you definitely get your money's worth albeit the prices are a bit high ($16). There are a few other options here such as the Tonkatsu ramen and spicy option of the Tsukamen as well as side dishes but they were out of their famous Okiboru buns which was kind of a let down as I wanted to try those. They also offer a variety of toppings (pork, chicken, beef), so you can make your bowl of tsukemen just the way you like it. Haven't tried their ramen yet but I've heard those are good as well. Overall, I highly recommend Okiboru Tsukemen and Ramen to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Japanese dining experience. - Spicy Tori Paitan Tsukemen (3.75/5): Their broth was smokier than most I've had. Very savory and good depth of flavors. The noodles were solid but not standout. Pork was fatty and super soft. The spicy element came on the side and is mild with a little mixed into the soup but when the whole amount is used, it's not the best experience in that the size of the chili peppers is perfect for catching onto your throat. It also changed the flavor in a way in which I preferred the normal Tori Paitan broth over it. - Tori Paitan Tsukemen (4/5): Similar to above for flavors and textures. Me and the rest of my family preferred this broth the most! Would def order with the chicken karage! - Yuzu Chintan Tsukemen (3.5/5): Definitely a lighter, milder broth. I wish it had more of a yuzu citrus punch - could taste some citrus but underwhelming. Everything is the same as the rest of their tsukemen. - Truffle Shoyu Ramen (4/5): The broth was light yet flavorful - the truffle smell and flavor come through from the oil. The noodles were nice and chewy. Would recommend with the chicken! We came around noon and didn't have to wait, but I heard from friends that came around dinner time that did have to wait. Great food and service. We ordered the fries, the spicy tonkotsu ramen, and the regular tonkotsu ramen. Fries were delicious, hot and crispy and not too salty. The aioli that came with it was sweeter than I've ever had aioli which was a pleasant surprise and I am now obsessed with it. Both ramens were rich and flavorful. We had the standard thinner noodles but if you like thicker noodles, you can order that as well. We dropped a pair of chopsticks on the floor and someone was there instantly to give us another pair - it was quite impressive. Prices are also quite good. Definitely recommend. read more

This was a first time experience and it's a great ramen shop! We were quickly greeted and seated, and they were very timely with our orders and asked every once in a while if we needed anything. I finally got to stop by and try out this spot after reading so many positive reviews. I was...disappointed. We came in around 12:30pm on a Friday and there was no wait. We were immediately seated and presented with the menu. I ordered the tonkotsu and my friend got the spicy version but with the spicy paste on the side. The broth was creamy. By creamy, I mean, it tasted like savory milk. It was not a subtle at all. I could not get past the overwhelming taste of milk and salt. If there were any other flavors, I couldn't tell you. The noodles were nice and chewy and the chashu was thick-cut. Flavor was decent but I would've preferred a less lean cut since it was so thick. Just felt kind of dry. There are no accompaniments aside from the half piece of egg and some scallions. Everything is extra. For almost $14, I guess I just wanted a few stalks of veggies. I did enjoy the egg though! The spoon provided was a ladle and made it hard to enjoy the milky broth. Probably won't be back as I cannot get past the broth. read more

After hearing all about the new okiboru opening in duluth. I have to give it a try on their opening night. My wife and I both ordered the spicy tonkatsu ramen. The servers are very nice and attentive since it was not busy when we stopped by at 6pm. The broth is flavorful enough with the perfect 3/5 spiciness for me. Now where it can improve is the chashu, it was wayyyy overcooked and basically falls apart when you try to pick it up. It is also served quite cold and I had to soak it in the broth to warm it up. The egg was too sweet for my taste. The thin noodle is about as normal as normal can get. There weren't much toppings beside some scallions. I was not a fan of the wooden laddle either. The appetizers selection was quite limited and didn't come with the crowd favorite chicken karagee. Hopefully the owner/manager will take constructive criticism and improve. But there are better alternatives that aren't more than 10 minutes away. read more

It was not crispy as I. The name and the filling wasn't that good either. The sauce was also a bit too sour for me. Our party also did not enjoy the gyoza. We got three different ramens. I got the tonkatsu that I guess is standard. I typically do not enjoy the extreme buttery thick fatty taste so I could not finish the ramen at all. I really tried. Now this maybe someone else's perfect ramen but it wasn't mine. Mom also did not enjoy her ramen as much, but because it was less thick she could finish it. Purely food based review: Spicy Paitan Tsukemen - Their speciality noodle, goten in spicy flavor. Definitely a kick and rich & fatty. Plenty of noodles to dip with. My only wish is that the Cha Siu slices were more fatty as it's kinda thin. It's good on a hot summer day. Truffle Shoyu - Light broth, thin noodles, definitely truffle oil taste. I had a good experience at the Okiboru in Sandy Springs so I knew I had to check this place out. After a long night of drinking, I decided to calm myself down the next morning with ramen. We visited on a Saturday during lunch hours and the place was surprisingly not that busy. I ordered a spicy tonkotsu ramen with fresh garlic on the side (You Koreans know that garlic is a must!) The food came out relatively quickly and I took a sip of that broth -- oh how good that broth was! It was so deep and flavorful... and Okiboru truly does their broth so well! What I usually do is try the broth without the garlic first and then mix the garlic in and taste the difference. The broth has a world's difference with garlic in it. What I like about Okiboru is that their spoons are HUGE! Perfect for ramen and you can get all the broth and noodles you want in one bite! I was really happy with my meal and I had a satisfactory lunch. The right half of the restaurant (where the bathrooms are located) is constructing and it seems like they're building something.. but I'm not exactly sure. It's not everyday you see a ramen/tsukemen joint and I needed some quick protein/refeed fix post workout so I opted for ramen. My first choice was closed at the time so I knew Okiboru was just a few doors down so I decided to give it a shot. Ramen is a tricky thing to get right. If certain elements are off or seem artificial, then it can deaden the experience good ramen is supposed to give. If the broth isn't rich, the noodles not cooked right, or the toppings ratio is off throws off the balance of the ramen. The best ramen to gauge how good the place is will always be the Tonkatsu style so I had to recognize that. In terms of the interior, it's a bit cramped for the most part but they've been able to maximize the space to fit about 70 people between tables of 2 seaters to 4 seaters plus a large bar in the middle of the place. It has a dark industrial ambiance that helps to add a sense of intimacy to your table but because it's cramped, you can hear the conversation of the other people so be mindful of that. The service is quick. Impeccable in terms of seating, refill service on your water, and taking your order. But lets talk about the ramen which is where I am most disappointed in. The noodles were cooked to perfection and they were the thin version so it definitely held onto the broth but the broth is where everything went downhill for me. Tokatsu broth is supposed to be rich, hearty, and carry a depth of natural umami that ought to warm the insides but at the same time, it's supposed to finish clean. This broth was more of a gravy than an actual broth. Plus there was the after bite of MSG that lingered after eating it. It also didn't carry the rich porky flavor Tonkatsu ramen is supposed to have. The savoriness came off artificial and they tried to pass it off. The coloring was off as proper tonkatsu broth is brown, not white which is what this "broth" was. The chashu pork slices were anemic. They were thin and gave us 2 slices. Don't get me wrong, they were flavorful and tender! You can cut the slices with your chopsticks but it was quite literally not even comparable to provide a decent balance. The ramen also lacked some necessary toppings like nori, scallions, and bamboo shoots to contrast the textures giving you an added experience as you're slurping the noodles. At $13.50 a bowl, the size of it was a bit lacking for a decent size bowl of ramen. Considering they only have one size, it barely filled me much less left me satisfied with my choice between the actual broth, noodles, lack of variety in the dish, and the lackluster chashu. You do get a decent savory bomb but again, it comes off artificially made rather than cooking pork bone broth properly with that 14 hour simmer. Overall, it wasn't a bad experience but it wasn't the best it could be. Tweak the recipe of the broth, less manufactured savoriness, and some toppings would make this place have more of an impact as a ramen joint. I'll have to try the tsukemen next... read more

Had the pork tonkatsu and the pork belly bun; both very delicious. The buns were pillowy soft and the slice of pork belly generous with perfect combo of fat and meat. The pork tonkatsu was flavorful, the spoons they give you are HUGE. This is what I would use to serve soups at home let alone eat from them ha ha. I've had almost all of them but my current favorite is the truffle shoyu. I really enjoy their small plates too and obsessed with their chashu wrap and okiboru buns!
