This very popular tourist eatery was very disappointing. To be fair, I did not have their specialty of boiled lobster. I can't judge that. However, I can say that the lobster bisque was bland and lacked lobster flavor. The seafood stuffed sole was over cooked and had the texture of mush with and bland and goopy sauce. The sides on my plate were a rice pilaf that tasted like an overcooked and bland box mix and overcooked asparagus that was tossed on my plate in a messy and haphazard manner. Another member of our party had the haddock, which was better but incredibly bland. The only dish that was declared a hit was the lobster pie. Perhaps one should only go here for lobster. What saved this place was fantastic service. Our waitress was incredible attentive and when one wrong dish came out, immediately had this corrected and brought out a complimentary salad. The Ogunquit Lobster Pound has been around for a long time and has been recommended to me by a few different people. We hit it just right and were seated immediately. The decor is nice and is relatively upscale for a lobster joint. The waitstaff were pleasant and attentive. There was a good selection of beer and wine. The food was excellent. Lobster by the pound was a little bit expensive, but this was a full service restaurant and included side dishes. We shared a bunch of perfectly cooked steamers to start. We ordered 1.5 lb lobsters. The lobsters were cooked perfectly. They were cracked so well that we did not need to use crackers- in my 50 years of eating lobster, I have never eaten one so well prepared. The side dishes were unusually good- the potatoes and vegetables were excellent. The only disappointment was the deep dish blueberry pie. It was strangely tasteless. Overall, a really good experience. They run a tight ship here and serve a consistently good product. It's worth the slight price premium. I would definitely go again. read more

I had never been to Ogunquit before and being a tourist destination on Labor Day weekend, finding a place to eat was challenging. I spotted Lobster Pound driving around and when I got there- an hour wait. But that hour became half an hour. My friends and I (7 of us) were seated in their beautiful picnic grounds and, wow, worth the wait!! Delicious and sweet lobster, and just warm and friendly. The lobster was so fresh and tasty! We got the steamers, clam chowder, lobster roll, escargot and two lobster tails and it was all delicious. I think this was the best lobster roll we had in the 4 days we were in the area. There was a wait of about 45 minutes when we went, but we got in a little sober by sitting in the lounge, which was great because we could see the lobster tank area out our window! The steamers were sweet and not too sandy. Staff was super pleasant. The only thing I didn't like was the blueberry pie, which seemed like boiled blueberries with a pie crust on top. We also didn't care for the escargot as it didn't have much flavor. I wouldn't call it pie. We went twice because the lobster was so good! read more

Classic Maine seafood destination. A little touristy but the lobster is super fresh and the steamers were amazing!! Mussels were disappointing. Mashed potatoes were underwhelming - you can pick two sides with your lobster order. It's huge - almost like a cafeteria and so service can be a little slow Once you order you have to go outside and pick your lobster - not sure why this is the case; perhaps for the effect?? But they cook it in this huge vat and it is cooked to perfection. The main (pardon the pun) lobster guy is super friendly and willing to answer all my inane questions. You walk up to this outside lobster tank where, once you are seated, you get to pick out your own lobster and they weigh it and write it down on a card so the waitress knows what to charge. They provide you with bread and butter while you wait. I wished the sides we chose came out either before or at the same time as the lobsters. It wasn't till after we got them and I was a few cracks in before they came. The mashed potatoes were bland but the carrots were deliciously seasoned with what tasted like brown sugar. The service was a bit slow. We were told the wait would be 35-40 minutes and we did not get seated for 1 hour and 10 minutes later. Solid! It is a little on the expensive side but it is in the center of this sweet little coastal town. The setting is terrific. We chose to eat outside because of Covid but it was nice. This location is iconic and what you expect for a lobster pound. Local, fresh seafood cooked quick and served with few thrills. Our party all had cocktails and they were great. Fast service and delicious. The steamers were perfect. Lobster bisque was also excellent. I had the lobster tail dinner with seafood stuffing. Tails were perfectly cooked and the stuffing was buttery, rich and filled with seafood. My companions had the lobster stew dinner and the lobster pie. Both were delectable and loaded with lobster. I have been to the Lobster Pound many times over the last few years with nothing but great experiences. That winning streak ended last Saturday, October 15, 2022. Eight family members and a newborn dined at the restaurant around 6:30 pm. We ordered several lobsters and steamers and other delicious entrees. The problem occurred when our dinners arrived. My son in law ordered the twin lobster tails and was told they were all out. He was not informed of this until all our other meals were delivered. The waitress said she just found out from the kitchen, so I can't blame her. He did not want to order something else and wait while we all ate. This unacceptable business practice and he should've been offered a free future dinner on the house. Sometimes tourist traps surprise you with an outstanding meal and have other great redeeming qualities. The Oqunquit Lobster Pound does not. We come here once or twice a year each time we stay in nearby Wells Beach. Our very first visit to the lobster pound 4 years ago was outstanding. The food, service, vibe and overall experience were quite satisfying and we were excited to have found a good regular spot to visit for dinner. Fast forward 4 years- this place has really embraced every negative aspect of a tourist trap. We dined here last night and spent over $125 on two lobsters, two cups of bisque and a few drinks. The lobster was way overcooked and the bisque was relatively bland with no lobster chunks in it. The best part of the meal was the bread and the beer(wasn't mad about that part). Although the service wasn't deplorable, it was not what I'd expect from such an expensive restaurant. It was rather inattentive and felt rushed. Save your money and go somewhere else. There are plenty of other great restaurants within a mile or two radius of this place that have delicious food and spectacular service. Go back to better service and food quality and we will gladly return! read more
