I had never been to Ogunquit before and being a tourist destination on Labor Day weekend, finding a place to eat was challenging. I spotted Lobster Pound driving around and when I got there- an hour wait. But that hour became half an hour. My friends and I (7 of us) were seated in their beautiful picnic grounds and, wow, worth the wait!! Delicious and sweet lobster, and just warm and friendly. So we went to this place at the recommendation of the hotel. It was our first (of what I hope to be many) lobster experiences and I was so hungry I could have eaten shoe leather and it would have probably tasted good!! The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty neat, the waiting area was outside and the weather was awesome so even though we were hungry it didn't seem like it took that long. They also have a live lobster tank and cooking area outside where you pick your lobster and they cook it to order! Very cool. We were sat and we had a kind young lady named Angelica (I'm not sure of the spelling) and she was really good! We both ordered clam chowder which was super rich and creamy, and we both decided to get the lobster (duh!). It was neat to go out and pick your own, I did notice that the guy basically up sold just about everyone (including us) so good talent stationed out there. We sat down and waited for our food. Here is where this goes from 5 stars to three. It was a solid half hour before we saw our food and I think the lobster was cooking the entire time because it was way overcooked! For the sides I got green beans (which were good) and a baked potato (which was extremely small). We enjoyed our conversation but the lobster was just plain rubbery (get the shoe leather reference now!). We did end it on a high note as the blueberry pie with ice cream was the highlight of the meal. If your going to make lobster your specialty then you have to give me good lobster for 5 stars!!! The lobster was so fresh and tasty! We got the steamers, clam chowder, lobster roll, escargot and two lobster tails and it was all delicious. I think this was the best lobster roll we had in the 4 days we were in the area. There was a wait of about 45 minutes when we went, but we got in a little sober by sitting in the lounge, which was great because we could see the lobster tank area out our window! The steamers were sweet and not too sandy. Staff was super pleasant. The only thing I didn't like was the blueberry pie, which seemed like boiled blueberries with a pie crust on top. This very popular tourist eatery was very disappointing. To be fair, I did not have their specialty of boiled lobster. I can't judge that. However, I can say that the lobster bisque was bland and lacked lobster flavor. The seafood stuffed sole was over cooked and had the texture of mush with and bland and goopy sauce. The sides on my plate were a rice pilaf that tasted like an overcooked and bland box mix and overcooked asparagus that was tossed on my plate in a messy and haphazard manner. Another member of our party had the haddock, which was better but incredibly bland. The only dish that was declared a hit was the lobster pie. Perhaps one should only go here for lobster. What saved this place was fantastic service. Our waitress was incredible attentive and when one wrong dish came out, immediately had this corrected and brought out a complimentary salad. I likely would have given this place 2 stars if it weren't for the great service. read more

As long time customers of OLP, I thought it only right that I comment on a recent visit to the restaurant with other members of my family. four of us had ordered lobsters and steamers....one lobster out of the four did not appear up to their usual quality both in appearance and taste. lobsters are not a cheap entree so I asked to speak with the manager. after waiting 20 minutes for the manager, we were questioned as to why we would not eat the lobster, and given an "education" on lobsters and their appearance. All this in front of a restaurant full of patrons. I think I was more upset over our treatment by the manager than I was by the meal. Could have been handled differently I felt. I have many times praised OLP to family and friends as an excellent dining venue. with so many options in that area for lobster dinners, maybe time to try others. This time we were able to sit outside at the picnic tables and they are super spaced out which made me feel extra safe eating here during covid. The waitress took our first round of drinks off as well since the bar had lost the original ticket, such a nice gesture! Mashed potatoes were underwhelming - you can pick two sides with your lobster order. It's huge - almost like a cafeteria and so service can be a little slow Once you order you have to go outside and pick your lobster - not sure why this is the case; perhaps for the effect?? Vegetables, zero in flavor, freshness, or even barely cooked, so there's nobody reviewing the work. Don't get the rice, that's straight from the dollar tree box isle. If you want a better meal, go to McDonald's, get the filet of fish, save $85. It's the worst meal BY FAR we've had in olgonquit in 2 years coming here. Oh, no military discounts And The Youth Working, could care less working here. I think the oldest staff member l seen was 25ish. You walk up to this outside lobster tank where, once you are seated, you get to pick out your own lobster and they weigh it and write it down on a card so the waitress knows what to charge. They provide you with bread and butter while you wait. I wished the sides we chose came out either before or at the same time as the lobsters. It wasn't till after we got them and I was a few cracks in before they came. The mashed potatoes were bland but the carrots were deliciously seasoned with what tasted like brown sugar. The service was a bit slow. We were told the wait would be 35-40 minutes and we did not get seated for 1 hour and 10 minutes later. Solid! It is a little on the expensive side but it is in the center of this sweet little coastal town. The setting is terrific. We chose to eat outside because of Covid but it was nice. I think you pay for the experience u pick and weigh your lobster and they serve it cut with a choice of sides. I ordered their spinach salad, and it was great, but sadly, their french onion soup wasn't made well. Instead of toasting a piece of baguette and laying it over the soup, they laid a piece of white roll? untoasted on top, and it quickly turned into muck. Fast service and delicious. The steamers were perfect. Lobster bisque was also excellent. I had the lobster tail dinner with seafood stuffing. Tails were perfectly cooked and the stuffing was buttery, rich and filled with seafood. My companions had the lobster stew dinner and the lobster pie. Both were delectable and loaded with lobster.
