    Azuki manju

This lunch spot is my latest obsession! You can easily tell that a lot of love and care is put into every piece of food. They only prepare a total of 4 mixed bento boxes each day and they fly off the shelf as soon as they open their doors at 11am. My favorite bento is their butterfish which is one of the best I've ever tried. The bento boxes may be the main attraction, but I am in love with their sides and desserts. I can make a meal out of just the spam musubi, sweet potatoes, and azuki panna cotta. I thought I would never find a spam musubi outside of my own kitchen that has a spam:rice ratio to my liking, but I found it at O I De! They sandwich a slice of teriyaki spam in between two thin layers of rice and the nori is used like a soft taco shell to hold it all together. I also love the selection of manju and cookies, all of which are outsourced from local bakers, including a non-profit that supports formerly incarcerated women. There's really nothing bad or negative I can say about this place! Tip: All bento boxes are 25% off after 1:30pm.

As a former Chibo fan, I'm so happy that this place has opened and I've finally made it here. It's clean, bright, and of course, comes with the great customer service! This time, I've purchased Yakisoba and Azuki Manju. The noodles in Yakisoba are on the thicker side and I love the chewiness. Also I like that it's not salty :) The Manju is by "da_manjulady" and it's not a Japanese style but a Hawaiian style - the outside is flaky like a pie crust and inside is sweet azuki bean paste. Pretty good! I can't wait to try other menu items. The only difficult part for me is, I don't work in downtown and they're only open 11-2. But I'll definitely visit here again whenever I get a chance.

I've been loving coming here for a quick, delicious, and affordable work lunch. Their selection has been steadily increasing ever since they opened, with grab and go bentos, sides, made to order options, and sweets. It's a tiny shop with a couple seats for eating in. So far, I've tried the yakisoba wrapped in egg, ginger pork bento, and nori bento. The ginger pork was tender with just the right balance of sweet and savory, while the yakisoba had plenty of pork and vegetables with springy noodles. The nori bento was simple but nostalgic, and especially good with their ajitama egg side dish from the fridge. My only gripe is that the bento protein portions are on the smaller side, especially if you're used to a heartier lunch. That said, it's a great excuse to grab one of their sides or desserts to supplement your meal. Some tips: - The bentos go on sale 25% off around 1:15-1:30. Check their Instagram. - Miso Mondays for a free miso soup with every order. - Ask for a stamp card! Oide Kitchen continues to be one of my go-to spots for lunch. The food is great and the workers are the sweetest!

Definitely recommend this stop. My second time here. Got a smaller lunch bento but it was still satisfying and plenty to eat. The sweet potato manju was also good, not too sweet. Prices are worth it. Great service, everyone is so nice. Clean and organized shop.

Update in the past 2 weeks, I've tried a few more dishes and have not been disappointed in any of my choices. Also. As of 6/16/25, they celebrated their Grand Opening with a dive roll for a chance of a bag of rice or other assorted prizes with any purchase of any bento. Also, I was notified they have miso Monday where you can get a free miso soup with any bento purchase. Lastly, they have a stamp card where after 15 bento purchases, you get 1 bento for free! The perks are adding up and making O I De Kitchen a large contender for great value and tasty finds downtown. Oyako-don: 8/10. Good taste, freshly made, and decent prize at $13.50. It is a good choice if you want a freshly made option instead of one of the ready made bento available. Karaage Chicken: 9/10. The Karaage is good. They also have a nanban option which is the same Karaage with the tartar sauce! The portion is good, the chicken is nice and juicy, and the little bit of lemon juice brings it all together. The only thing that I would mark it up to a 10 would be if you could order a fresh one everytime so you get it right out of the kitchen. Reminder, this spot opened up where Jojo's used to be and is easy to miss. I would recommend giving them a try and experiencing some of the many options they have at good prices.

I was on the block for business and hungry. I stopped in thinking I was getting something else, I had not realized this restaurant had changed to O I DE Kitchen. They have pre-fixed bentos along a wall display, inside of a refrigerator, salad options, and up on a menu, made to order items. I took a look and needed to get back to my office so I grabbed a garlic shrimp bento. I was able to heat it back at the office and it was pretty tasty! The two people who were working there explained they had opened recently, in March. They were very nice, and shared how the menus worked, and the made to order time frames so I would know the wait in case I was in a hurry. Very convenient!!

New bento spot where JoJo's kitchen used to be

Wasn't this Jojo's Kitchen last week? Yes. Yes, it was. But now it's ODIE Kitchen. ODIE's soft opening was on March 24 and they offer additional lunch options to the nearby office workers and tourists willing to venture a bit into downtown. There are a variety of local and Japanese inspired bentos, from the loco moco, to Chicken nanban, to grilled salmon, and steak-don. I got the teriyaki chicken as a benchmark against other competitors like Happy Mart and Mama-Ya. ODIE does give more food, but also charges a few dollars more for comparable items. ODIE also includes a set of edamame and seasoned vegetables, which the others generally do not. Thus, if you're trying to stay healthy, this is a good choice. Also, ODIE seems to have better quality rice. Not Moana Musubi (RIP) quality rice, but better than the downtown competition. Chicken quality was good, firm, balanced seasoning, but ODIE does not place their bentos on a hot plate, so the chicken was more room temperature than hot. They may change this as their business ramps up from their soft opening. The chicken reminds me a bit of Mama-Ya, before Mama-Ya went crazy with the mayo heavy sauces. If you want your chicken more traditional and less fattening, this is again a good healthier choice. The owner I presumed, was out greeting people, reminding them of made to order items like the loco moco. They take credit cards and cash. The store was clean, well lit, but lacked places to sit down and eat. It's downtown, so parking is as always, a gamble. There are some stalls right outside on the street and more in the post office a few minutes away. It's lunch only with current soft opening hours of Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM.

Quality and tasty bentos with good portions. They have a made to order menu also. I also purchased a side serving of Japanese potato salad (good for 2 people). With my ahi katsu bento, total was $22.00 customer service was fast and friendly. The shop itself is clean and organized. I recommend.

Bento. Fish with tartar sauce, gyoza, sausage and croquette. $11.

Cute and convenient bento place. Lots of choices, but you should try to go early. You can also place orders there for select hot lunch plates. Decent prices.

I highly suggest you do - absolute game changer! Our little one enjoyed a small bowl of udon as well. The ambiance is chill considering the seating is very limited (15 seats approximately). It's all bar seating arrangement where you can see the staff cook the food. Oh, by the way, we saw Amy Hill here! It takes something familiar, strips away the unnecessary decisions and turns it into a process that's incredibly easy to enjoy. The restaurant is tiny, but everything feels deliberate. The staff keeps things moving without making you feel rushed, our waitress was genuinely wonderful with our kids and even the people waiting around us couldn't have been friendlier. It felt like everyone was in on the same little secret. The first surprise wasn't even the fish. It was the cabbage salad. Shredded cabbage, crispy noodles, miso yuzu dressing. That's it. Somehow it's one of the best salads I've had in a long time. It's the kind of dish that makes you wonder why nobody else bothers to do something so simple this well. Then came the negitoro bowl. The ikura shower is absolutely worth the extra ten bucks. Yes, it's a little theatrical with the bell ringing, but if you're going to pour an avalanche of salmon roe over my bowl, you might as well make a show of it. The crab miso soup upgrade is another easy yes. The crab almost feels like they're apologizing in advance for ruining every ordinary bowl of miso soup you'll have afterward. It isn't perfect but nothing is. The rice was a little clumpy and needed to be broken apart. After a while, the flavors begin to blend together more than I expected and those beautiful sheets of nori lose the battle against Hawaii's humidity pretty quickly. They look incredible, but they become soft before you can really enjoy them. I also wish I could order another bowl of that cabbage salad by itself. Our kids demolished the udon. Perfect texture, comforting broth and probably the easiest win of the entire meal. Will we come back? Absolutely. Totoya isn't trying to reinvent Japanese food. It's taking a handful of excellent ingredients, removing the friction and executing the experience with remarkable consistency. Sometimes that's what great restaurants do.

I still think tamafuji have the better crust imo (soft, airy, yet crispy bite ). You'll know what I mean if you are able to get a seat. This might be 2nd best breading on island. Gyukatsu 4/5 I really enjoy the Wagyu. It's meaty and buttery at the same time. Some Wagyu tends to be more buttery and fatty but this Wagyu has a good balance of both. I do wish the breading was fried a little more because I think it's not as fried compared to the other meats. You can tell it's lighter. Also compared to the other meats, the breading tends to fall apart. Shrimp 5/5 Great. Juicy. Crispy. Good breading. Chicken 5/5 Tender, juicy for a chicken, and crispy. Good breading. I can tell they put some effort into cooking this. If they did that with white meat, that's pretty good. Kurobata 5/5 Juicy. Good breading. I ordered individually because didn't want to risk getting the fat cuts. Good balance of lean meat and fat now. Service 2.5/5 I feel like they focus on larger parties more so than solo diners. Had to ask to get my water, miso, and rice refilled. Personally, I care more about the quality, effort, and taste of food and don't care too much about service and ambiance so that didn't bother me much.

When I first came here, my friend and I decided to give it a try because we saw the longest line and wanted to see what all the hype was about. There was a couple in front of us who said they come here every time they visit Hawaiʻi and that it's a must-do stop on every trip. When you walk in, it's a small place. You can watch a team member washing the noodles and portioning them into bowls right in front of you. Then you choose your bowl size, small or large, and select your broth. After that, you get to choose from a variety of fried items and other à la carte options displayed on a warmer. Seating can be limited because of how busy this place gets. You line up to get your food, pay for it, grab your condiments, utensils, and a cup of water, then find a seat and enjoy. I've already been here twice, and after writing about my experience, I need to make a third visit happen very soon! There are not enough days off in a week to enjoy all of the amazing food on this island, but I'm going to do my best to experience as many places as I can. This place is totally worth the 45-minute commute from Wahiawa.
