The chicken fried rice was dry - the rice was dry, the chicken was dry, despite using chicken thighs rather than chicken breasts. Worse, perhaps, was that it was all flavorless. I regret ordering a full size serving, rather than a mini serving. The curry udon was curry ramen with udon noodles. Seriously. It was exactly the same as ramen, just with udon. Had my fix of Mapo Tofu Ramen at Sumo Ramen. First time at this location. It's located in the Market City Shopping center lower level. Between L & L and Mezzo. Parking was a breeze. Service was friendly. Although behind the counter chat levels were a bit high at times from the workers. We were seated at a table for two. First time ordering chicken katsu to go here. First, they give a decent amount of katsu. But the amount of sauce is ridiculously small. It's maybe a 2oz cup that's maybe 3/4 full. Just enough to dip one end of each katsu stick with a slight coating. That wouldn't be so bad if the katsu were actually seasoned but it's kinda bland so you NEED the sauce. I'm really disappointed. The service was right on and they came quickly to take our order and fill our waters. I ordered the won ton ramen combination. I thought the ramen was okay. I've had better tasting won ton and ramen at other places. But I liked the fried rice that came with the combination. They make the rice with peas and carrots but since my dad is a regular, he ordered it without peas and carrots. I followed his lead and did the same. I just had the best chicken katsu curry combo I've had in a long time. The Chicken katsu was on point and the panko was not coming off the chicken and the chicken was moist. My only complaint would be the sweetness of the curry. The Saimin was delicious and the noodles were perfect I think I could've had a large Saimin on this visit. But I went here in person with my boyfriend for the first time on Thursday night cus it was my birthday and felt like having curry All the employees there was so nice! And one of my nits is that the rice is done well and it was. So many places here in Hawaii just can't get the basics of making good white rice. Sumo has it down. Katsu was good, curry was flavorful, a bit on the sweeter side, gyoza was nice. The folks that took my order are so sweet despite some customers that came in that were kinda rude. Pushing their phones into their faces without saying "Hello" or taking off their headphones... so annoying to just have some basic decency for people that work so hard. The food was great ! I ordered the spicy beef ramen bundle (substituted the noodles for udon noodles at an extra cost) which comes with the ramen, 4 pc gyoza, and fried rice. My husband ordered the chicken katsu curry combo which came with the chicken katsu curry, ramen, and 4 pc gyoza. These portions of the combos are great, you're definitely full after eating them but not bloated. The only reason I didn't give five stars is because I ordered wontons to put inside of the spicy beef udon and the amount meat inside of them were very very small (about 5% meat to 95% wrap) that is honestly the only complaint I have about the entire restaurant. The service was great, we were the only people dining in everyone else seemed to be taking out so I'm not sure the difference it would make if the place was packed. Our server was super sweet and very attentive to our every need. The inside of the restaurant was small but cute, like most hole in the wall ramen restaurants. We sat at the first table down the walkway, I think I saw a larger area that opened up a ways down but I'm not sure how big that area is.
