Go Go Curry is a chain restaurant from Japan; located inside the Mitsuwa Market at the International Market Place. The sign said they have over a hundred locations in Japan; but as far as I know, this is the only one in Hawaii. The curry is really delicious; it is different than the regular Japanese curry, it's much darker, thicker and more intense flavor, but not too spicy. The pork katsu and shrimps are fried to perfection, crispy and tender. You can choose the size of rice, but the size of the katsu is the same. The curry comes with a pile of refreshing shredded cabbage, a perfect accompaniment for the rich curry. The prices are very reasonable. According to the poster, it took more than 55 hours to make the curry. They only sell beer at Go Go, but you can buy other drinks in the market. You order and pay at the counter, and you can eat in the open seating area, shared by a few other restaurants. The area is bright, spacious and very clean. There are lots parking in the International Market Place; you can get it validated if you spent $25 or more at the first floor customer service counter by the elevators. I was staying in the area and needed a quick meal so decided to try out Go Go Curry located in the Mitsuwa Market. I knew I was going to eat an actual dinner not too long after so I went for the pork tonkatsu curry and a side of Mac salad. They had a deal for like $3-4 more to get both pork and chicken, I should've done that. The curry is pretty dark in color but deep in flavor. I told them it was for dine-in but they still put it into a takeout container, which I wasn't a fan of bc it takes away the crispiness of the tonkatsu. I definitely wish they put more curry bc it was the star of the show. The Mac salad was so bland though and tasted like empty air, definitely wouldn't order again. Oh my gosh! This place has delicious food! It's upstairs in the Mitsuwa Market. The curry is so rich and delicious, portions are generous and the price is fair. My friend and I split the pork katsu curry plate. You get to pick how much rice you want with it. We picked one scoop. The katsu was juicy and tender on the inside and had a perfect crunchy coating on the outside. We ordered a little cup of homemade Rakkyo peeled yuzu, which seemed a little pricey at $3.00 for maybe an ounce. It was a small cut up shallot that had been marinated in yuzu and probably a little sugar. The tartness was the perfect accompaniment to the rich curry and fried pork. It was absolutely delicious! I got the Home Run which comes with a shrimp tempura, a sliced boiled egg, and a link of sausage. The service was great, swift and polite. Accordingly to the signage they've been in Japan for +20 years, and it takes over 55 hours to make their curry. I was lucky enough to try this franchise during a YEE a few years ago before the pandemic, sadly the Houston location is now closed. I am happy to say my experience here was just as good as it was a few years ago. The chicken katsu is so crisp, light, the chicken is pounded thin and the curry sauce has a slight spice, rich, and very well balanced. I like how the cabbage provides a fresh and crunchy contrast to the meal. The sausage link was rich, slightly smokey and the egg rounded out the meal. I believe they cook the sauce for 5 hrs, then after it cools they refrigerate it for 55 hours to intensify the flavor. I ordered the medium sig pork katsu. Size refers to the amount of rice, not the amount of meat. However, you can get combo chicken/pork katsu, or either katsu w/ sausage & egg, if you want more protein. The katsu was nicely fried and the meat was tender. The sauce is very strong and brown in color vs the golden color we are used to in the US. The sauce is a tad spicy and a bit tart from the ginger: I really like the sauce. GGC is one of two restaurants in the food court. Both serve beer. There are also dedicated restrooms for customers only. The service was friendly & fast. You order at the counter, and your number is called when your food is ready. GGC is a great casual option in overpriced, and often mediocre Waikīkī. But I am glad more tourists don't know about it. read more

The current buzz is Go Go Curry (GGC), a popular Japanese curry chain that started in 2003 and has expanded to 70 locations throughout Japan and has multiple US locations (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Texas). They started at Mitsuwa on September 20, 2024. GGC got its name from popular Japanese baseball players Hideki Matsui, who hails from Ishikawa Prefecture and played professional baseball for Yomiuri Giants and New York Yankees where his jersey number was "55", which is "go go" in Japanese. The founder of GGC is Hirokazu Miyamori, another Ishikawa Prefecture native where he was huge fan of Hideki Matsui. GGC boasts its 55 steps of preparation, 5 hours of cooking and marinate for another 55 hours. This results in a dark, rich, unique black colored curry. It's served over Japanese premium Koshihari rice and paired with your choice of toppings. My family and I really wanted to try GGC but it's difficult for us to sync our hectic schedules. I was recently touched where favorite niece and favorite nephew by default wanted to dine together with me at GGC so I made the effort to change my schedule just so we could trek over to Waikiki for dinner last night. To be frank I'm not a fan of katsu curry as I see it at my part time job all the time but GGC's black appearance really got my attention. I was planning of getting your standard curry but family were interested in trying the World Champion (2 chicken katsu 2 tonkatsu 4 sausage 2 shrimp 2 egg). There's 5 of us and I didn't think was enough so I added a whole bunch of toppings and extras to ensure there was a sufficient volume. I decided to ask the staff how large the sides are (i.e. curry sauce, fukujinzuke) to properly order for my family. The next thing I knew, I ordered sides that equaled the dollar amount of the World Champion. I have no self control. LOL... While waiting for our food, we sat down and noticed Taiga Ramen, where I began studying their menu and ordered more food. Family noticed the World Champion placed on the counter so I stood up and made my way back to GGC. Shortly after I saw the staff with a tray of metal plates, utensils and the sides that I ordered. We took our food back and after snapping a few photos it was finally time to dig in. THE VERDICT: I've never had GGC previously so I didn't know what to expect. Indeed, the dark colored curry is rich and packed with flavor. It paired nicely with the Koshihikari rice. I was mixed on their sides. They were made to order as the protein was temperature hot. However, I wasn't a fan of the chicken katsu and tonkatsu as they were thin and lacked substance. The fried shrimp was probably the best topping for me. The boiled eggs were fully cooked and soft but I would have preferred jammy eggs. Getting extra curry sauce was the right thing to do as we found ourselves dunking the protein in the curry sauce and adding more curry sauce on the rice. The counter staff was friendly and patient as she answered all of our questions. We were given extra plates and utensils without asking for them. Overall, an above average experience at GGC where I'd be game for a return visit. The food quality exceeded my expectations and had a wonderful evening with my family in Waikiki. I have eaten at Go Go Curry in New York so I was happy to see they opened a location here. The only downside is being located in Waikiki which is why I did not come sooner. They opened inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace. I did not know that International Marketplace changed their parking policy so to get the first hour free you have to spend $25 or more to get your ticket validated. To help meet the $25 goal I got the Home Run combo. It included katsu, an egg, sausage and a single shrimp tempura. Unfortunately you have to pay for fukujinzuke (pickled vegetables) so I got a side of that. The side was a big portion though so I took the leftover amount home! The tonkatsu (pork) was cool perfectly being crunchy outside and the meat was moist inside. It was on the thinner side so it may not be as filling as it looks. The curry had a deeper and richer taste than your usual Japanese curry. The sausage was fatty and oily like a breakfast sausage. I could have skipped that. The katsu is always perfectly cooked and tender with an extra crispy exterior. The serving sizes range from small to extra large but I think that only applies to the single curries. On top of that, increasing the size ONLY APPLIES TO THE RICE. The small starts at $13.95 which is a bit cheaper than the previous place and then it's a dollar more for the medium. I've always order the medium as it is the perfect portion size. The food is made to order and comes out nice and hot. The chicken katsu is crunchy and fresh already drenched in to katsu sauce. I liked to enjoy my entire meal when I'm dining in so that I can savor the crunchiness and spiciness of the curry sauce. The first time I went the curry sauce was thick and had a tolerable spice level but this time I felt like the spice was a bit excessive. I still ate the whole thing. Service was quick and easy. A couple of weeks ago, we watched an episode of Hawaii News Now's Cheap Eat that featured the Go! Go! Curry! food stall that opened at the Mitsuwa Marketplace Waikīkī in the International Marketplace. As the Cheap Eats hosts described this food stall's Japanese curry rice or karē raisu dishes, I was reminded of one of our lunch meals during one of our free tour days in Tokyo, preceding our April cruise. We tagged along with friends who also signed up for the same cruise to seek out a particular bookstore and coffeeshop. Our friends, who have frequently visited Japan, were familiar with the train system and assured us they'd guide us from the Shinguku Station into the Jinbōchō neighborhood. We knew nothing about the Jinbōchō or Jimbōchō area so we just followed our friends into several bookstores and admiring the cutting-edge art and architectural designs while my stomach growled at seeing many coffee shops and curry (Japanese and Indian) restaurants. It was my understanding that Japanese-style curry was developed or reinvented after the British brought their Westernized version of curry from India hence the Japanese call it "yōshoku" cuisine. We ended eating at Kitchen Nankai and I was surprised to see the cooks ladling black colored curry instead of the familiar turmeric yellow onto our plates. The sweet yet spicy dark curry was delicious and so different from the typical Japanese curry products that are packaged in blocks or powder form. Oops, sorry, I digressed. Anyway, after watching Cheap Eats, we rushed to the Mitsuwa Marketplace to enjoy the karē raisu that we've become familiar with during our visit to Japan. This vendor calls out their Kanazawa-style curry components as "3C Magic" or its original curry, deep-fried cutlet (pork or chicken), and a chiffonade (finely-cut or shredded) cabbage. We ordered Go! Go! Curry's HOME RUN combination platters of karē raisu that were plated with a mound of shredded cabbage, premium Japanese rice, and topped with a crisp breaded pork cutlet (tonkatsu) or chicken cutlet (torikatsu) in a pool of black of roux, not cornstarch, thickened sauce, one sausage, one deep-fried shrimp, and a hard-cooked egg for $18.95/plate. The dark black lagoon of fruity and mildly spicy Kanazawa-style curry brought back wonderful memories of Tokyu. The breading of the cutlets and shrimp was perfection as crust was evenly golden browned and crunchy or crisp while the pork cutlet (which I ate) and chicken cutlet (my husband's choice) were still tender and juicy. The service was pleasant, although not particularly friendly or engaging, as others before us in line questioned the counter help. However, we think they'll get friendlier while maintaining their attentiveness and professionalism. The food came out of the kitchen hot and fresh within 12 to 15 minutes after ordering. read more

I'm not sure what happened once they got the licensing to use the Go Go Curry name, but the curry isn't as good, which should be the shining star of this show. Location: inside Mitsuwa Market 2nd floor Portions: are Japanese sized. If you get XL you only get more curry and rice, not more protein. And who needs more carbs, not me. The front end staff is the same as before but the kitchen messed around with the recipe, the curry looks darker and the taste isn't as deep as before. Maybe they don't use the wagyu beef in the curry like they used to, I'm not sure but I'm so sad. If you liked Kanazawa Curry, this isn't the same. Went to check out Go Go Curry and ordered the regular Tonkatsu Curry plate it came out relatively quick although had to go to the Market side for a drink. The girl at the counter basically didn't say a word but at least looked pleasant. The Tonkatsu was sliced thinly and although tasty with the slightly spicy curry sauce was a little less than some places I've been to in Japan, I would have to say the highlight was the Curry sauce which was dark and thick with a bit of spiciness the tonkatsu was soft mostly because it was thinly sliced thinner than many places I've been to both here and in Japan. For the price though I think you could get a better deal somewhere else, although it was nice to try their Tonkatsu curry. read more

My sis and I both ordered the regular pork katsu curries which came with a bed of rice and some shredded cabbage. The curry was rich and flavorful while the pork katsu was crispy and light. We both scarfed down our plates but that may also be from our long morning at the beach (; Overall this place is pretty solid and I would come back again! The service was pretty quick and seating wasn't hard to find during lunch time. Go go curry can be found in Mitsuwa at the international Marketplace. Keep walking in the back of the store and you will find Go go Curry. The katsu itself was pretty good, it was light and crispy, but the curry sauce had a little spice. I have never seen curry dark. I thought it was ok, but not something I would eat all the time. The service was good and there was a few tables to have your food for dine in. read more

Super delicious curry and katsu but I was expecting much more food when buying an x-large. I think the only thing that changed when buying an XL was the portion of rice. I was still hungry after my meal tbh. There was only one small portion of katsu that felt like it was for a small size. I really did like the flavor though.
