    The food court - VN
    Vince N.

The original Ezogiku on Kalakaua Ave. was our favorite ramen & fried rice spot on the rock. In their heyday, they had about five locations on Oahu. In 2024, they're down to two if you go by the biz name, or one (in Aiea) if going by the menu selections and taste. When the Kalakaua location closed, they relocated to the Royal Hawaiian Center's food court before closing again after a few years. Enter 2021; this is their third and current relocation but with a different menu. ATMOSPHERE: Their newest iteration finds them in a covered side street alley food court shared with four other eateries and communal seating. MENU: Ramen in four broths (shoyu, miso, tonkotsu & vegan), cold versions, a brothless mazeman, rice & gyoza. FOOD: Simple Ramen Combo - $15.95 Shoyu ramen topped with tender chashu, half a hard boiled egg, fishcake & green onions. The $5 upcharge added fried rice and 4-pieces of gyoza. The best part of this was the chewy, eggy noodles. The semi-hot broth, while dark and savory, was flat with no depth. Almost as good as the original, the fried rice had noticeably less bits of chashu, fishcake and flavor. Though with a nice char, the gyozas easily fell apart when picking them up due to their thin and soggy wrappers. SERVICE: Counter service was friendly. Food came out in under 10 minutes. TIP: 10% kama'aina discount available. Type in your phone number on their tablet which automatically enrolls you into their loyalty program. OVERALL: Want old school Ezogiku? Head to their last stronghold in the town of Aiea.

My delicious Tonkotsu ramen combo! Yum!!

It's a little place but don't overlook it. This place has BIG flavor. Delicious ramen! I haven't had Ezogiku since I was in Honolulu almost 16 years ago (when they were on Kalakaua Ave) and it's just as good as it was back then. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen. It was so good! The broth is not too spicy but has a great flavor. Very creamy base. I opted for no egg but it was still wonderful. I got the combo which comes with fried rice and gyoza. The gyoza are handmade right in front of us. They are so fresh and delicious. I will definitely be back.

Really ono, quality and affordable ramen with friendly service can be found at Ezogiku Waikiki (located in small food court at 2239 Waikolu Way in Waikiki between Royal Hawaiian Ave and Seaside Ave). Seek it, find it and also check out their Monday through Friday lunch specials from 11am-2pm. Depending on the daily special, they can include a side of their tasty gyoza or mini fried rice or mini curry rice. Their noodles are chewy just right, their broth is spot on and I've enjoyed their mulberry ramen (made from mulberry leaves, super food healthy) and their wonton ramen - they were comforting, ono and just what I needed. They have seating too, so pull up a chair and enjoy some ramen today!

My husband and I are clearly ramen snobs... either that, or we dined in on an off day because we were underwhelmed by Ezogiku. We both had bowls of the miso ramen along with the fried rice and gyoza. The miso broth was medicore and the noodles were cooked al dente with a good ratio of chewiness. The fried rice was also bland and the gyoza was nothing to rave about. However, the cashier was very friendly and the food came out quickly. It was challenging to get here since it was in a small food court area on a side road and can be easy to miss since the shop itself is tucked in the corner. There are a few tables for dine in which are shared with the other restaurants in the food court.

My first experience with "real"ramen was at Ezogiku in the 90's when they had a restaurant on Kalakaua. It's always been my favorite ramen shop in Hawaii. After a break of at least a decade I ate here and wow, delicious and familiar. Curly, chewy noodles, amazing shoyu broth, fried rice with the special sesame seed oil yum! Highly recommend!

I ordered the vegan ramen option. It was pretty fresh & hot. Perfect soup for a rainy day. It had tofu, radish & edamame.

So glad Ezogiku is back to Waikiki! They have the most authentic ramen imo! Their Miso ramen broth is exactly the same taste as the one in Japan. Today I had a cold ramen, it was great! Almost perfect if it has corn & mustard like the traditional old style one in Japan...I hope they add them in the future, but the chewiness of the noodle & other toppings were perfect! Yum!

Vacationing in Hawaii can be very expensive. Especially if you're looking for good eats. But it doesn't have to be if you're willing to walk a bit and explore some of the out of the way side streets. We went on a walk about for lunch and discovered this little gem tucked away from the road. The ramen was absolutely delicious and the Gyozo was probably the best we've ever had. We both left stuffed and very happy with our stomach and our wallet. Highly recommend. Author David Moon Books on Amazon Zomosapiens Scales of Justice

Poor quality ramen and too salty. We ordered the miso and wonton ramen. Instead go to Ramen Nakamura or buy instant ramen from ABC.

My daughter and I like to order the Shiro Wagaya Ramen and my husband loves the Garlic Wagaya (Kuro) ramen. We also like to order the corn tempura as an appetizer. The restaurant itself is not so big but fits quite a good amount of people. The workers are very friendly and accommodating. You can also order your food through a QR code and pay online when you're done. There are also restrooms onsite. Parking is still small and can fill up when it's busy (you also aren't allowed to park in the Church parking lot) If you haven't eaten here before, I would suggest looking on their website at the waitlist to see how many people are on there prior to going there as they can get really busy. You can also put your name on the waitlist online so you don't have to do it on site. They have a really good text messaging system letting you know when your table is almost ready.

I enjoyed the sweet and savory flavor of the agedashi tofu but was a little underwhelmed with the ahi belly. The most impressive part of the night was the reaction from my two daughters. They are typically very picky eaters, but they completely devoured the Tokyo Chicken ramen. The broth was remarkably rich and packed with complex flavors, while the chashu was a savory burst in every single bite. I live right near Little Tokyo in Los Angeles and have very high standards for what makes a good bowl of ramen, so I was honestly blown away by the quality here. The kids were so into the food that we even decided to grab an order of chicken karaage to go. The service was exceptionally attentive and the staff went out of their way to ensure our family had everything we needed. The ambiance was also fantastic and added to the overall experience. Regarding parking, it can be tough in Waikiki, but we found a convenient public garage right next to the hotel where the restaurant is located.
