Ordered via Delivery so can't compare prices. Firstly I was a ramen freak but now not so into it. I've been trying out different places including those who have high ratings. I wish my Japan trips included ramen but those days it wasn't as popular here. Of course there are gazillion any type of noodle shops then and now in Japan. So wish I could base my criteria on eating real, authentic, 3+ days of simmering pork bones to produce the tonkotsu soup. But alas I haven't and have to go with whatever type of tonkotsu soup here. Gawd only knows if they follow the real method. I think not. But anyway saying that I got the char siu ramen combo with fried rice and gyoza. Firstly I am a freak for wok he, it's my holy grail as I find not even chinese restaurants don't have it. Apparently they don't employ wok masters or they cook the fried rice on the (ack!!) grill. Only those who can really wok can produce that smoky flavor into their fried food. And this fried rice had it spades. Mouthful after Mouthful produced that imparted that delectable flavor. To me if you got wok he you don't need a whole lotta spices cuz that in itself enhances the dish. So yes they have it. Moving on I found the tonkotsu soup to be too salty. Luckily I can dilute it with hot water before eating The gyoza was plump and well gyoza'd. The side order of chicken katsu came with a very delicious romaine side salad with a creamy sweet sauce. I'm finding it difficult to find tasty and authentic Ramen outside of Waikiki area lately. So, tried Chef's Ramen on a whim and found the Charsiu Tan-Tan Men to be excellent! The tonkotsu based broth had just enough spice and the charsiu had the right balance of meat to fat. They also have an boiled aji egg included which was a really nice surprise. Their noodles are on the thinner side which is my preference (I hate thick pasty Ramen noodles!) ... This place makes hands down the best Japanese curry on island. I've tried a couple, authentic ones, cheap ones, fancy ones, the flavor here is the best! Yeah you wouldn't think a ramen spot got great curry right!? Especially the staff don't look like Japanese? But hey, if it's good food, great service and friendly prices, I'm there. We would drive to Kalihi just for this. Why their curry? Flavorful, great consistency, carrots and onions inside, got a bit of kick to it, perfect balance of saltiness and sweetness. Also their oysters are well fried with a good crunch. Just so glad they got the oyster option! (5 pieces for their oyster curry). Then they got their good tonkotsu going for their ramen. I usually prefer the black garlic oil, but their plain tonkotsu is bomb. Rich and flavorful with noodles with good texture. Great prices because a combo with chicken katsu curry comes with a bowl of ramen and 4 pieces of gyoza for $18.50. On top of that they gave us complimentary delicious fried sesame mochi balls. The place has enough tables to not have people waiting outside, although I do think they deserve to have a waitlist. It's clean, simple and comfortable to dine in. I really enjoyed dining here for lunch! The food was all very delicious and flavorful. We got the combos and there was so much food. The staff is very nice and attentive. Wanted to visit a new place and Yelp has this as a 4.5 star ramen shop. Didn't know what to expect, and upon entering the place, didn't really think it would be that great. Pretty plain plate lunch joint looking atmosphere. Decent choices on the menu. Chose a tonkotsu miso ramen. Never had such a combination before and it was good. In fact, not only was the broth good, the noodles was tasty and done right and the toppings were satisfying. It included a half an egg, good menma, decent char siu ( how the menu spells it), and choi sum. Added on a side order of gyoza. Not the best and they got cold really fast. Don't know why. Adding a few drops of chili oil to the gyoza sauce and ramen broth was a good decision. Perked them up. Didn't come away with hardly anything negative about the meal as the prices are decent for what you get, service was polite and efficient, and place was clean. In such a small venue I guess it wouldn't be a good choice to dress it up like Onoya or get fancy bowls and spoons. To me that's what it takes to make it a 4.5-5* place. I guess I buy into the glitz! Delicious food, Big portions [Honolulu HI] We dined here on our last full day in Oʻahu. Inside is quaint in a casual setting with a small dining room. The restaurant is a table service so we placed our order with the sole employee (maybe owner). I ordered the Butter Garlic Salmon Rice which was delicious. It was described as spicy on the menu but I requested it to be no spice at all. When I took a bite it still had a bit of spicy kick to it but it's okay, I could handle it. The salmon was a generous size! Hubby chose Spam Katsu Curry Combo and our other company ordered each the Tonkotsu Ramen Combo and the Vegetable Ramen Combo that came with gyoza and charsiu fried rice. Towards the end of our dinner we were given a complimentary serving of Jian Dui (Sesame Seed Balls). So kind! So yummy! Chef's Ramen was the suggestion of Nadine C and we met her here for dinner at 5:00p (we had just came from the Battleship Missouri at the Pearl Harbor). Better late than never... Ramen for dinner sounds exactly what I needed after returning from a trip and being badly jet lagged a bowl of hot soup is a comfort that I'm so ready for. Chef's Ramen is located in City Square and is a small and cozy place with few seating provided though I've seen many order take out and ordering is by QR Code only so honestly I don't remember exactly what I ordered knowing it's kinda a Veggie Tonkotsu ramen set that comes with four pieces of huge gyoza that was so yuuuuuuummy (I'm a huge gyoza lover) and side of fried rice which I knew I wasn't gonna even touch thinking probably would be perfect for later lol! Broth has nice creaminess. Egg is seasoned with a slightly soft texture. Choy sum is the perfect touch. Truffle ramen is decadent with fresh cheese, garlic truffle oil and creamy milk broth. The shop is on the smaller-side with maybe less than 10 tables but there was no wait so we got a seated immediately. Service was very friendly and they were attentive during our meal. They even gave us some red bean sesame balls for dessert for free! The Tan Tan Char Siu Ramen had a great flavor to it and the noodles were good as well. The broth was what I skeptical of (as that's the signifier of good/bad ramen) and when I tasted, I was definitely surprised as it had a pretty great taste and a deeper flavor than I was expecting. We wanted to try a new place for ramen other than our "usual suspects". We got here pretty early (6:15pm) and it was empty. No sooner than 10mins later and the place filled up......and with good reason. We thought this place was going to be the usual "Chinese-style" ramen place that is oh too common in Honolulu. You know the place......Chinese family doing their take on Japanese ramen. However, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality and distinct flavor of their ramen. The tonkotsu had definite flavor and the little pieces of crispy garlic added just the right amount of garlic for me. My gf's mapo was also delicious according to her. It's gravy style without the dilution of soup which is what she wanted. The surprise at the end was mini- Jin Dui. Sorry, didn't take a pic but it was a great little dessert and was freshly made and piping hot. So ono. A neighboring table had Mochiko Chicken and the plate was HUGE. This is truly a hidden gem, located I'm an unassuming strip shopping mall. Did not expect much but exceeded our expectations. The dining area is on a small side, with minimal decor. She managed our party of 7 and others and kept the level of service very high. They have a great Combo meals options. I opted for the Pork Belly Combo A with Gyoza and Fried Rice. The broth was great and there was a fair amount of ox tail. Also with the plate is a side dish of gyoza aka fried potstickers. This plate is worth the price. The restaurant has limited seating. If you get here too late, it might be already packed and with so many businesses in the area, the parking lot gets full quickly. And there is live entertainment. Live meaning the TV set playing YouTube episodes. Hey who doesn't watch YouTube? Lastly, they serve more than ramen here so if you want something light or a hearty meal this place is perfect. I never know what to expect at ramen shops since reviews are always all over the place, but the ramen was pretty good! I ordered the kim chee miso ramen, but I honestly think I was given the tonkotsu miso ramen by mistake. Nevertheless it was still good. Great broth, full of flavor.
