I've heard nothing but good things about Viet Chubby Boy - situated in the Kapalama Shopping Plaza, on North King Street. The name alone made me want to guve them a try. I walked in off peak lunch hours - 130p - and they were still quite busy with in-dining customers and takeaway orders. Requested their Beef Stew Noodle Soup. You have a choice of egg or rice noodles, I got the latter. Bò Kho with vermicelli. The beef broth was sweet with plenty of onions. Dish came with the typical accoutrements one would get with Pho - the Hoisin was mixed with chili oil. The broth was good and the chunks of chuck roast were tender and with carrots...kinda looked like local style beef stew...sorta. Also, got an Iced Vietnamese Coffee. Strong and sweet as one comes to expect. Robusta coffee is SE Asian coffee is definitely underrated. Hours are 1000a to 1000p daily, except Sundays, when they're closed. A few tables ...about six or seven...make up an L-shaped dining area. Parking stalls align the strip mall which is shared with a liquor store and other eateries. They are directly across from the old Diners ( now Upscale Hawaii ) and have been for the past three years.

Complimentary chili sauce they give. Can be used for anything

Viet Chubby Boy is a nice tiny but homey restaurant. I've seen their menu before and it looked good, i figured it would be nice to try their banh mis. I got the lemongrass beef sandwich which was really good! It lives up to its name. The lemongrass came thru nicely, i appreciated the bold flavor. It's also fairly filling too. What stood out even more was their beef pho! I was surprised by how good their broth was. For whatever reason it felt really authentic and well balanced. It had this natural sweetness to it. Its something I'll definitely come back for.

Wanted to try this place after some friends said they enjoy it! Located in Kalihi in same cluster as Diners. Clean bright spot that's in the old saimin house location. Ordered some spring rolls, combo pho, Thai iced coffee. Spring rolls were nothing special. Tight thin rolls with standard fixings. Romaine lettuce was a little different as there were 2 big leaves. Pho was a nice clear broth with a clean taste. Noodles were thin and not stuck together in a ball. Ample amounts of beef. The special sauce they serve had nice flavor, kind of like Chinese XO sauce but different?? The people working there seemed like husband/wife and were super friendly and always refilled my water. Thai coffee was good. Would I come back? Most definitely!

I ordered the n10 beef Vermicelli bowl with lemongrass beef. I thought it was pretty good but it wasn't as much of a taste bud party as the pork vermicelli bowl which included spring roll, that I had before. For me, I think it was that I didn't really taste much lemongrass which is one of my favorite spices. I really like the intimacy of this restaurant. There's not a whole lot of seating, but the staff are quick to help you out or make sure your glass is full. This is a solid place for us to go to when we're in Honolulu.

I LOVE VIET CHUBBY BOY! My coworkers and I bring up ordering from them at least once a week. We all know what we want and it's the pho french dip sandwich! If there's anything you have to try it's this specific sandwich. It's so flavorful and delish! The meat is tender and packed with seasoning. And I like how the bean sprouts were cooked since it gets rid of the bitter taste the fresh ones add. They're super easy to order with over the phone and to pick up. I think they actually know who I am... since they start ringing me up when I walk in?? We've even optimized the route we take for maximum time on lunch but I would love to eat there in person for lunch so the food is extra extra fresh :)

I cannot say enough GREAT things about this place! Not only did I verbatim say "this is the best Vietnamese food I've ever had" out loud, but when we came back the next week, Han, our server, remembered us and gave us big hugs and wanted to know our names. She is so warm and made us feel so welcome :) also the chili oil for ever single dish is a MUST. Chill vibes, amazing small business, go support and come back for more. Both dine in and pick up were great, but from now on we'll be dining in because of Han! So good!!!!!

Love this place. The food is very tasty and service is excellent. Order the tamirand sauce with your meals. Your taste buds will explode! Ample free parking. Restaurant is clean. Employees are friendly. Price point is excellent. Whether you're famished or simply want to eat something, you will find the perfect dish on the menu to satisfy your cravings.

I've been wanting to try Viet Chubby Boy for about 2 years now. They are located in the same lot as Gueib Cafe, Sakana Grill & Upscale Hawai'i. Parking is tight but if you come during off hours, there are lots of open stalls. Recently Yelp GF told me that he tried their French Dip (Banh Mi) and said it was amazing. It was the nudge I needed to finally go down and give them a try. I decided to order their French Dip to go. Since I was in a rush, I called my order in and it only took them about 15-20 minutes to get my order ready. Customer service was friendly and the place was pretty busy with people waiting for their take out orders. The drive home was fragrant and got me excited for my first bite. I thought the sandwich would have more roasted beef brisket but it was mostly bean sprouts. When I could taste the brisket, it was good but almost every bite tasted only like bean sprouts. I used up the container of their saute sauce in a few bites to try drown out the dominant bean sprout taste. Their saute sauce was quite tasty. Good thing I have a lot of saute sauce at home so I could finish the banh mi. Their broth is on the sweeter side and I liked that they have a lot of sliced onion in it. Personally, I was disappointed but if the sandwich had more brisket and not as much bean sprouts, I think it could have been quite good.

My first time trying this Vietnamese restaurant. I went during off hours, so plenty of parking and I was the only customer. The dining area is small, but very cozy with minimal decor. The menu is extensive typical of a Vietnamese restaurant, but I am here to try the Pho. The broth is very light, but beefy. Not too sweet. But its missing the essence of the spices, like the cinnamon, star anise, cloves, coriander seeds, cardamom and fennel. Also the smokiness of the onions and ginger. I just prefer my pho broth to be heavier on the spices. But I still enjoyed it. The rice noodles was perfect, and the meat toppings is a little on the stingy side. Also only one size bowl. I also tried the Summer Rolls with BBQ Pork. It was just average to me. Service was good, attentive and refilled my water when needed. Came to check on me a couple of time. My Mom called me while eating and I ended up ordering the Chicken Pho for take out for my Mom. They did get busier after I sat down with mostly take out orders. I will definitely come back again. I like the convenience of satisfying my Pho cravings and I don't have to drive to downtown/Chinatown.

We were in the area and looking for a place to eat on Yelp. Viet Chubby Boy popped up with good reviews and a menu with a variety of dishes. We were only 2 minutes away so decided to check it out. We're glad we did since the selection was very good and the dishes were five-star! They have a variety of Asian dishes, not just Vietnamese as you would think by their name. I had the salad wrap; lettuce leaf with minced pork, shrimp, bell peppers and garlic. Very tasty and healthy dish. All the ingredients complemented each other nicely. We also had the fried spring rolls vermicelli. The spring rolls were light and crispy with a good amount of filling. The vermicelli cooked well, not overcooked, and came with a their house fish sauce, very flavorful. The prices are also competitive and you definitely get your money's worth. The place is cozy and comfortable. Parking is convenient as the lot is right outside. Service is excellent and they all seem to look out for you. Highly recommend the food here, either eating in or take out. We'll definitely come back to try some of the many other dishes on the menu.

Mapo P17. Mabo Tofu Plate with a side order of chicken pho broth. It's my fav!

The mapo tofu and chicken pho are my two favorite go-to items. I think I order the mapo every or every other week . It's not like the Chinese/typical saucy dish, but is seasoned well with black pepper and sautéed onions - so comforting. Love their house lemongrass chili oil too!

I've had this place bookmarked on Yelp for a while, and I'm so glad we finally got to visit! For appetizers, we tried the Vietnamese fried corn style. It was sweet and the savory flavor from the shrimp paste or sauce was so good. We also got the bomb tofu,it's also surprisingly good. For our mains, we ordered the stir-fried egg noodles with seafood and the Pho French Dip. I really enjoyed the Pho French Dip. It has roasted beef brisket with avocado sauce, thai basil, bean sprout, onion, cilantro in a Viatnamese baguette. It's oily but the flavor is well-balanced and so good when I dipped it in their house pho broth. Actually, both the stir-fried egg noodles and pho french dip were already tasty on their own, but when the staff offered chili oil, it completely elevated the flavors. It was so good that I asked if they sold it, and they do! The staff told us they make it fresh with lemongrass and chili, and they even bottled one for us. He said it lasts about three months in the fridge. I also love that they serve dishes you don't usually find at typical Vietnamese restaurants. The staff was friendly, fast, and accommodating. There was plenty of parking, and the restaurant wasn't too busy when we dined in.

As for the food, it's definitely comforting and delicious. The different pho broths (chicken, beef, etc) are all just right, not too oily, not too salty. I didn't even have to add in any condiments to enhance the flavor. The Banh Xeo is a huge portion, that can be shared amongst a party of 2-4. Street parking is located right out front, there's also a parking structure out back, with an entrance into the establishment directly from the parking structure. I will definitely be coming back here for more!

We dined in May, but it's been awhile since I first dined here. I preferred dining in Chinatown during lunch time than at dinner. Our waiter was really nice and helpful. It was good that I wanted to takeout one last time in August before they moved! No more the 50/50 combo with the crispy roast pork on the lunch menu during the weekday. It was on the spring menu. Of course it's best to eat it in the restaurant than for take out. Bathroom is a must for me when dining out and they had only one shared bathroom for everyone! There was a guy who tried to make several attempts but wasn't successful, since there was always someone in the restroom. I'm glad the waiter told me there was a bigger separate bathroom with several stalls for men and ladies upstairs. An Di Dzo did not disappoint! Planned to treat my girlfriend to a long-overdue catch-up session…read more Made reservations at 5 pm. When we arrived, we were the first guests so got to pick our table. When we sat down at the pretty wooden booth, there was a happy hour menu on the table. What?!? And YAY!! There was a 2-for special on the cocktails and you could select from the full menu which featured an extravagant and eclectic selection. There were wine and beer specials too but we were here for the cocktails. From the happy hour menu, we ordered the vegan spring rolls, chicken wings, and the Bo Ne Steak--a Vietnamese breakfast with bone marrow, cubed steak, sunny side eggs and a baguette. I can vouch for the spring rolls, light and crunchy without being oily. I don't eat land animals but my friend said the wings were divine. And they give you gloves to eat them. So civilized (ha) and a nice touch! She loved the bone marrow and steak. There was so much food she didn't finish it so I took it home to the hubby who devoured it. No complaints and only smiles from him! I wanted to try a couple pescatarian dishes from the regular menu so ordered the lemongrass clams which was AH-mazing! Could have been my favorite dish of the night because the flavors were unexpected but undeniably good. And, the garlic salmon bun (vermicelli noodles) was fantastic. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was savory yet light. I've never seen this option at any other Vietnamese restaurant and it certainly elevates the traditional dish which usually comes with meat, tofu, or spring rolls. (You can still order the bun with these options and they let you choose your protein combos.) Finally, (I told you there was a lot of food) we ordered the banana blossom salad. I rarely see this offering at other Vietnamese restaurants. It's hard to describe but I refer to this dish as the red-carpet version of the green papaya salad. It's more dressed up and sophisticated. A real treat and a must-have if you're dining at An Di Dzo. Parking was easy since it's at Ward (by the theaters or you can park anywhere in the village). The restaurant is clean and modern. And the service was courteous and professional. Our server Alex was great and made the evening extra special. An Di Dzo is open for lunch and dinner. They also offer some vegan options so I'll be back. Hubby enjoyed the leftovers so much he wants to give it a dine-in try. You don't have to ask me twice! Highly recommend you give them a try, too.

Popped in to An Di Dzo randomly while walking around Ward on a random Wednesday night! The place…read morewas more than half full but we were able to be seated right away. They have very trendy seating styles. We were seated in a wooden booth. The booth chairs were so far away from the table, there was no way you'd be able to eat without sitting on the edge of the bench haha. But very spacious for 4 people! The waitress was prompt with bringing our water, taking our order and bringing our food out. They have a little lazy-Susan style sauce/condiment platter on each table which was nice for the pho. The food was actually very tasty! I enjoyed everything I ate. Which kind of shocked me, being that town is more of a touristy area and I wasn't expecting to get decent pho! Since they're located in the same building as ward theaters, there's an entire parking structure for you to park in, for free! So don't worry about parking. If you're in the area, I'd suggest trying this place out!

We ordered banh mi, rice noodle w bbq pork and spring roll, and banh bao. The food came out really fast and was beautiful and delicious. The vermicelli was the best - I could eat that every day. We were both stuffed when we left. We took the bus so I'm not sure about parking. The dining room is modest with just a few tables, nothing fancy. Those are usually the best places anyway.

You got plenty to choose from even with picky eaters so you're going to find something for everyone here IMO. We opted for the pho noodle soup and the dry hu tieu which is like a noodle dish with side soup. Flavors were amazing and were only enhanced with their house made lemongrass oil which you can self serve. The place is a bit small but we were lucky to get seated immediately on a Friday lunch. Would love to come back here over and over on my trip, but may have to make decisions since there's so much food to try! The restaurant is a peaceful serene like place and has that Chinatown like theme, showing maybe the age of the place so don't expect modern classy vibes. Also there may be a bit of a language barrier so if you can speak even a little Vietnamese, maybe try pulling it out. Otherwise, just point to the dish on the menu to order! They do accept card here btw. Parking is Chinatown so try the municipal lots for cheapest option, street parking is also possible.
