    Vietnamese Iced Coffee (comes blended)
    Rachael K.

I'm about to become a chubby girl because of this local business! Viet chubby boy offers the best pho broth on island! Free parking in a lot shared by several Kalihi businesses. Located in the Kapalama Shopping Center by the post office in Kalihi. Look for the bright yellow sign! The interior of the restaurant is humble and old school reminiscent. Plenty of seating. I noticed you can reserve a table ahead of time. My boyfriend and I enjoyed an order of spring rolls. Fresh, light and crispy. Not oily at all! My boyfriend's Thai tea was sweet and refreshing. My viet iced coffee was spectacular! It is blended, unlike at most other viet spots. I personally loved it! The beef combination pho was delicious. The broth was crazy good! Portion of noodles was generous. Not as much meat, but I didn't mind. The staff were so sweet! The auntie was bubbly and cute, cheering with me when our food arrived. Very attentive uncle and owner as well. I noticed several regulars coming in for takeout. It is apparent to me how much care goes into their business, despite the staff's long hours (12 hour shifts)! Be sure to check this place out and support Viet Chubby Boy!

Lots to love! Easy parking, "clean as a pin", super nice people! I loved my lunch of Pork "Bun" Vermicelli noodle bowl with Spring Rolls. My noodle bowl had lovely fresh cucumber, lettuce and mint. Fast and fabulous best way to say! Mahalo

Such a welcoming and homey Vietnamese hidden gem! Workers were so nice and, genuinely caring. We had several conversations and learned about each other! The food was perfect, it is a wide variety between Vietnamese, Chinese, and American dishes. I love how this would give everyone an option whether or not they like Vietnamese cuisine or not.

Wow. Hands down the best Vietnamese food I have ever had, not even just on Oahu. The French dip is one of the best things i have ever eaten. The pho broth that comes with is the perfect level of savory and light and warm. The beef is perfectly tender, and the bread is just right balance of crunch and softness. I could eat this French dip every day. The vermicelli noodle bowl was also delicious and I loved the crispiness and sauce of the tofu. The Thai tea was the right level of sweetness, and the chili oil. That homemade chili oil is something else. It's aromatic, fresh, and utterly delectable. It was so good we bought a jar of it. Service was very quick and the owners working it were so friendly and hospitable. Food came out fresh and fast, and though there is limited seating, tables seem to move quickly. The ambience is no frills, clean, and cozy. I can't wait to come back!

I've heard nothing but good things about Viet Chubby Boy - situated in the Kapalama Shopping Plaza, on North King Street. The name alone made me want to guve them a try. I walked in off peak lunch hours - 130p - and they were still quite busy with in-dining customers and takeaway orders. Requested their Beef Stew Noodle Soup. You have a choice of egg or rice noodles, I got the latter. Bò Kho with vermicelli. The beef broth was sweet with plenty of onions. Dish came with the typical accoutrements one would get with Pho - the Hoisin was mixed with chili oil. The broth was good and the chunks of chuck roast were tender and with carrots...kinda looked like local style beef stew...sorta. Also, got an Iced Vietnamese Coffee. Strong and sweet as one comes to expect. Robusta coffee is SE Asian coffee is definitely underrated. Hours are 1000a to 1000p daily, except Sundays, when they're closed. A few tables ...about six or seven...make up an L-shaped dining area. Parking stalls align the strip mall which is shared with a liquor store and other eateries. They are directly across from the old Diners ( now Upscale Hawaii ) and have been for the past three years.

Service was excellent for take out. They have several pictures of their food on the wall. It's a nice cozy place. The chicken salad looks good and I'll probably try it next time. I ordered a lemongrass chicken sandwich and a pho.

Complimentary chili sauce they give. Can be used for anything

Viet Chubby Boy is a nice tiny but homey restaurant. I've seen their menu before and it looked good, i figured it would be nice to try their banh mis. I got the lemongrass beef sandwich which was really good! It lives up to its name. The lemongrass came thru nicely, i appreciated the bold flavor. It's also fairly filling too. What stood out even more was their beef pho! I was surprised by how good their broth was. For whatever reason it felt really authentic and well balanced. It had this natural sweetness to it. Its something I'll definitely come back for.

Wanted to try this place after some friends said they enjoy it! Located in Kalihi in same cluster as Diners. Clean bright spot that's in the old saimin house location. Ordered some spring rolls, combo pho, Thai iced coffee. Spring rolls were nothing special. Tight thin rolls with standard fixings. Romaine lettuce was a little different as there were 2 big leaves. Pho was a nice clear broth with a clean taste. Noodles were thin and not stuck together in a ball. Ample amounts of beef. The special sauce they serve had nice flavor, kind of like Chinese XO sauce but different?? The people working there seemed like husband/wife and were super friendly and always refilled my water. Thai coffee was good. Would I come back? Most definitely!

Service: 5 s Ambiance: clean, comfy, adequate space, "homely!" *Food: [Beef stew w/noodles]- choice given of egg or vermicelli rice type, opted for "egg" noodle but it looked more like a thinner type of chow mein but it still worked out for the thickness and texture was ideal as the egg noodle I'm familiar is the noodle similar to a twisted "pasta" noodle which is softer. The stew meat and broth was AMAZING and the spices added offered comfort visiting for a first time customer with satisfaction confirmed! [Lemon grass Banh mi]- I had better elsewhere. Sandwich lacked lemongrass flavor, veggies were fresh and filling was minimal. It wasn't bad but wasn't the best. Therefore, NOT an item I would reorder. *Drinks: Smoothie & ice tea, just ordinary, but really refreshing! Pictures on display is misleading. Color difference matters but accepted what was delivered to the table anyway. Quality: REPEAT visits will be worth it!

Grilled meatballs, pork. They tasted very good

I ordered the n10 beef Vermicelli bowl with lemongrass beef. I thought it was pretty good but it wasn't as much of a taste bud party as the pork vermicelli bowl which included spring roll, that I had before. For me, I think it was that I didn't really taste much lemongrass which is one of my favorite spices. I really like the intimacy of this restaurant. There's not a whole lot of seating, but the staff are quick to help you out or make sure your glass is full. This is a solid place for us to go to when we're in Honolulu.

I LOVE VIET CHUBBY BOY! My coworkers and I bring up ordering from them at least once a week. We all know what we want and it's the pho french dip sandwich! If there's anything you have to try it's this specific sandwich. It's so flavorful and delish! The meat is tender and packed with seasoning. And I like how the bean sprouts were cooked since it gets rid of the bitter taste the fresh ones add. They're super easy to order with over the phone and to pick up. I think they actually know who I am... since they start ringing me up when I walk in?? We've even optimized the route we take for maximum time on lunch but I would love to eat there in person for lunch so the food is extra extra fresh :)

My family loves this place! The staff/owners are so kind and helpful. Food came out quick and everything was delicious. The first time I came I had the lemongrass chicken bahn mi. It was delicious, definitely had a kick to it (if your spice tolerance is fairly low like mine). This time I had the French dip and it was great as well. Will definitely be back to try their pho as I see so many people raving about it.

    Pho Bahn Mi

I have been meaning to try out Viet Chubby Boy for awhile now and glad I finally made it. There's plenty of parking(although the parking lot is a bit snug). The restaurant itself is pretty small but you can bring a decent sized party in there and be fine. I ordered the pho bahn mi and it came out relatively quickly and it was pretty good. The meat was actually flavorful, the bread crisp but fluffy on the inside and whatever sauce they put in the sandwich was delicious as well. The pho added an extra level of savoriness to the sandwich that I really enjoyed. There was also another sauce that was brought to my table before sandwich. Not sure what it was but it definitely added a nice extra spice to the dish. Overall I'd give the Bahn Mi an A-

The menu has changed to a more tapa style. We went with our two young children & they were very accommodating. We ordered a bunch of stuff but most notable was the Ensalada Salad, Croquette Cordero, Taco Raisu, Karaage Pollo, and for dessert, the Piña Borracha. We ordered some pork and steak skewers. These were ok, I would skip these next time. A little burnt. My favorite was the Ensalada Salad. The crab was sweet and the salsa opaca was so refreshing with the apple foam. Was told to smash the crisp on top and combine it with everything and that took it to another level! So good that we ordered another one. The price of this was so affordable too! The Croquette Cordero was like a mini curry ball with chimuchirri sauce. A little heavy but if you love curry, this is for you! The Taco Raisu surprised us. The taco meat was so flavorful!! Even though we were stuffed, we kept going back for more. It's like a deconstructed taco & you use the lettuce as a wrap. The Karaage Pollo came with a Cucumber Escabeche. It was so tangy and refreshing, which perfectly cuts through the rich, savory oiliness of the fried chicken. We got the Piña Borracha for dessert and that had a coconut cake, coconut lime mousse, banana lilikoi curd, and pasted pineapple on top. Amazing!! Great way to end the night. Everything was top notch. You can tell they put a lot of effort into each dish. Can't wait to go back!

The picarones is like a peruvian andagi, which was pretty cool. The miso cream brûlée was from the prior menu, but also a Yes. The bar is knowledgeable and innovative their mixology- I've had the shizuku garden and that was amazing.

She suggested the mushroom jook where they would put the chicken on the side. They even added more mushroom to elevate his dining experience! Today we ordered family style, which they happily accommodated for us. They served the rice on the side. Our menu included short rib bao and shiitake bao (vegan), ume tomato, namul, spicy miso eggplant, crispy pork belly, menchi katsu, and mushroom jook. The standouts were the crispy pork belly with its watercress tomato onion salad, the ume tomato on whipped tofu, and spicy miso eggplant. Loved the clean and modern decor inside the restaurant. As we sat down, our water cups were quickly filled and the only few questions they had for us was whether we wanted the wine pairing and we wanted to add the caviar toast and shaved truffles. We opted for the wine pairing, caviar toast and truffles. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The most notable dishes for me were the ahi and caviar toast, cold corn soup, the lobster and the dessert. Sadly the portion of the toast here was about 1/2 the size of what we had at the cafe and unfortunately they didn't have uni for the night (maybe don't go on a Tuesday). Service was fantastic but they did have a few hiccups which were tolerable as the food was amazing. The wine pairing was also good and paired well with the dishes.
