It was my first time here, we came for a family birthday dinner and I was really impressed! We had a variety of dishes that included broccoli beef, pad Thai, General Tso's chicken, green curry and honey walnut shrimp. Everything was delicious! My favorite was the honey walnut shrimp, the shrimp were plump and crispy! It was all family style but the portions were generous enough that we even had leftovers to take home. This is definitely an all Asian bistro. I came here for a dinner woth a large group. This restaurant was cute and modern. Definitely a casual place, but still great for dates or a family dinner. There is parking around the restaurant and nearby. We came in, and already had a section reserved for us. The hostess showed us tonight spot and they were able to add some last minute orders. The food is not one kind but a variety of Asian dishes. I get the name of "Asian" bistro. They had Chinese, Korean, Filipino, Thai and even Vietnamese dishes. If you have visitors that aren't sure about any kind of Asian cuisine, this might be a great intro to all Asian dishes. Overall the food was pretty decent. The portions were a good size and the price was also affordable. You can probably grab a bunch of appetizers and share. It would still be a great meal. One of the best restaurants on Oahu! In fact it may be my favorite. My daughter's dance school performs at Paliku theater twice a year and for the week leading up to it I'm in Kaneohe nearly every day. I tried Moonga last May when we picked it up after her evening show. When we got home to eat the food we were all shocked at how good it was for take out. I knew I would go back following her winter performance. Fast forward to this week after a grueling 4 shows in 2 days our group decided to celebrate at Moonga. 3 of our aunties came for the performance and joined us at the restaurant. They can be quite the food critics but our 80 year old auntie said this was some of the best tempura she's ever had! Sesame tofu was 10/10, perfectly crispy perfect sauce. A must try for vegetarians. Sweet potato roll also delicious. Tons of seating and nice updated facility. The Waiter was very kind. I also appreciate that the waiter offered to split the tickets before we even asked. Many places don't do this. Easy parking in the lot outside. I'm not going to wait until the spring performance to come back this is one of my new favorite restaurants and I will gladly drive from town for that tempura and sesame tofu. read more

Moonga has quickly become one of my favorite spots. While the service can be slow, and the dishes never come out at the same time, the food absolutely makes up for it. A light and bright open space with ample seating and kind staff, it's a great place to meet people for lunch, but the tables are far enough apart for date night as well. Everything I've tried is amazing. Lunch specials are definitely the way to go price wise, with the chicken peanut curry being my top pick, followed by the sesame chicken and Mongolian beef. This place is bumpin for dinner time. First time here and the food was quite delicious. They have a mix variety of Asian inspired foods. Tried the pad thai, 420 roll, shrimp tempura, calamari, stuffed jalapeño's and Tempura. It was all delicious. It can be a little pricey as well, given everything is Ala cart style. They have a restroom inside which is clean. The dinning area is spacious and comfortable. Service was alright. It was so busy and there were only 2 people who were waiting tables & working the bar for the whole restaurant. It took awhile to order. The waiter looked like a chicken running around without a head. He was also called out by name and ignored us. Once the waiter came over, We ordered everything at once (appetizers & entrees) we even ordered our food before receiving our waters. The food came out within 30 minutes of ordering and pretty much all at once. I give it 4 stars because they need more wait help, So their waiters aren't scrambling around the restaurant with just 2 of them trying to wait tables and manage the bar. read more

If they pair down their menu and concentrate on treatment for the protein, they might have more consistent food. They have very reasonable lunch specials. The service is good and the space is very modern and chic. I've been here five times now and have found the food is either really good or just so so. This last visit, I ordered the lamb chops, which is one of their specials. I was disappointed at the lamb chops, they were very salty, and overdone. ( I could not finish this dish) and the sauce was not good at all. I think it would've been better if it was just plain hoisin rather than a mixture of hoisin and other ingredients that to me did not taste very good. We'll have to try ordering the lamb again. This is my new favorite place to come for a relaxing time, good atmosphere and great food. We probably eat here two times a month. And I always recommend it to my friends and bring family here when they are visiting the island. They have a great menu with anything from Pat Thai to sashimi. I love their peanut curry. It's probably my favorite dish. The orange chicken portion is more than I can eat in one sitting. They have a bar area and also a separate sushi bar area where you can sit at the counter and order sushi. I've always found the service to be very good and the place is very stylish and clean as well. They have accommodations for individuals or larger groups as well. After an evening gym session, we decided to try Moonga Asian Bistro this evening before they'd close at 10p. Last kitchen call is at 9:45p Plenty of free parking and this was such a beautiful restaurant! The interior gave a nice red gatsby look with a full mini bar as soon as you enter the restaurant. The seating was nice too because the booth chairs were soft and comfortable! There's a plethora of options from sushi, to Thai food. I think the highlight of the foods that we chose was the crab rangoons and the black angel roll. Crab rangoons were hot, fresh, and crispy with its side dip of sweet sauce. The black angel roll was my favorite : i loved the Kobe beef topped with the yuzu citrus taste - i highly recommend this! The staff were very accommodating and very patient with us when we couldn't decide what to order. The restaurant opened last year between April and May and I'd say that this place is a must-try when you're in Kaneohe! Ambiance is casual with light instrumental music, great for groups, accessible to wheelchairs, and perhaps taking someone here on a date would be a great place to start! read more

Here to upgrade from 4 to 5 because I've finally had the dine in experience and it was excellent. Food? Hot, delicious. Service? IMMEDIATE! Like so on top of it I felt a little bad, I promise yall I won't perish if my cup drops below half full. And the renovations they did are (I think) quite lovely. Some of the seats are a little oddly shaped but I love all of the colors and the family atmosphere. The reviews were great and going there personally did NOT disappoint. Calista, the hostess, was very friendly and accommodating. The menu options are so varied that it's definitely hard to choose! We settled on the following: -Gyoza -Miso soup -Egg drop soup -Mongolian beef (spicy!) -Beef Broccoli -Teriyaki Salmon and veggies Each dish was awesome! For being an "Asian bistro" with ok Chinese dishes like Kung Pao chicken, the SUSHI is unexpectedly high quality, super delish and a must do! We find the fish here is almost or at the Gaku/Uosan level and noticeably lower in price! Not that Gaku/Uosan aren't worth it bc they are ;). Our faves are the spicy lobster nigiri, King salmon, maguro, hamachi! We find the sushi surpassing many but the few non-sushi dishes we tried were just ok. My husband's relatives who live near Kāne'ohe neighborhood recently suggested meeting for lunch at Moonga Asian Bistro to discuss the upcoming Thanksgiving Day family dinner plans. We agreed to meet at this neighborhood Asian Fusion restaurant since we don't usually drive to the Windward side of our island. Although we were familiar with Moonga Bistro's location as the former Pah Ke's Chinese Restaurant and near our other favorite, Adela's Country Eatery, this was our first visit, and we made sure to allow ourselves at least 40 minutes of driving to avoid of any unusual traffic conditions. We arrived at the restaurant before my husband's relatives, so we entered and asked to be seated. While waiting, we perused their extensive menu, which featured traditional, contemporary, or fusion Japanese, Chinese, and Thai cuisines. Although my husband's relatives were running late and the restaurant filled with others, our server kept an eye out for when our foursome was complete and took our beverage and meal orders. The Lunch Specials Menu features three different menus to choose from: 1--Kitchen Lunch Specials, 2--Sushi Roll Lunch Specials, and 3--Sushi Lunch. My husband's relatives who have eaten at Moonga had already decided on their menu choices from the Kitchen Lunch Specials and recommended them to us. The Kitchen Lunch Special that we selected included a choice of soup, an egg roll, a choice of protein from about 24 entrees, and rice. It ranged in price from $11.95 to $13.95. We started our meals by sharing a Lettuce Wrap appetizer. The steaming hot and soy sauce-based chopped chicken-vegetable mixture paired well with the cool iceberg lettuce cups. My husband's relative's wife and I chose the Pannang Curry with Chicken ($12.95), my husband chose the Black Pepper Beef ($13.95), and his relative's choice was the Sesame Chicken ($12.95). Since my husband's relatives recommended the Egg Drop Soup, we had all started our lunch with a nice steaming hot bowl of it. The Pannang Curry was very mildly sweet and creamy that was enriched by the coconut milk. The chicken pieces were tender as were the vegetables in this curry. This Pannang Curry was tasty but not authentic Thai. I would order it again but maybe ask for a higher spice level to give it more chili-kick. The Black Pepper Beef lunch special that my husband chose was also mild and not as bold as we've tasted at other Chinese restaurants. Still, the tender beef slices and soft-crunchy stir-fried vegetables were on-point. My husband wolfed down his meal. My husband's relative ordered the Sesame Chicken entree with fried rice. I didn't try it but he enjoyed the mild-sweet and tender battered chicken pieces of this popular American-Chinese restaurant item which to me, looked similar to General Tso's chicken. He doesn't eat spicy food, so this chicken dish was perfect for his taste buds. The lunch special portions were quite generous and were of good value for their price. Told hubs let's order just two dishes then go straight to the show. Female servers and manager. They were so accommodating I asked if they had gift cards. The server said she'd ask the manager. Not even a minute later and the manager was taking my credit card to pay for the gift card separate from our food bill. The lettuce wraps were savory and delicious. Their Moonga Seafood had a whole lobster on the top with scallops, veggies and more plus a bowl of rice hubs had all to himself. The water was refilled as needed. Every table in our row next to the windows facing Kam Hwy in Kaneohe was occupied. Everyone looked like they were enjoying what they ordered. The table next to us had 3 women. One kept talking nonstop loud enough for us to hear every word that she was saying. She asked the server several times to take their photo. As we were leaving I saw one table to the right of the restaurant taken that was lucky in their own space. Many seem to find the variety of options to be a negative, but personally, they execute their menu well, so yes, you can have sushi and thai curry, and it's all great. We got seasame tofu, kung pao veggies, and veggie tempura. All come with rice. Price is around $14 per entree. The sesame tofu was very good, and I could eat it all day. The sauce is savory and sweet and not overly breaded or fried. Kung pao veggies has less kick than you'd expect but still a lot of flavor. Tempura veggies were perfectly breaded and a good assortment of veggies. Portions were enough for me and my (pregnant) wife to split the meal and have leftovers. We will be back. I was impressed how beautiful and classy the restaurant looked after renovation! Not sure how good it can be serving a variety type of food in one place, but it may appeal to many diners. Our group has mix feeling about this place since the dish of Kung pao chicken had more vegetables than chicken. Chicken was minced and to one was too spicy. I had the General Tso Chicken and it was good and so was the portion. I would order it again, but it didn't "wow" me. I did like the crunchiness of the chicken and the taste. It had nice big bite size chicken pieces. My deciding factor was the photos posted on Yelp which was a great help! The place was beautiful and clean. Workers were nice and accommodating. Food was served not all at once. All the sushi ordered from our group came on one plate instead on separate plates on how it was ordered. So everyone had to take their sushi order on to their plates if they had one. Hopefully the service and food would improve in time. I do want to try their other dishes. The parking lot is shared with other small businesses such as Local Boy Sushi, a laundromat, and State Farm Insurance. The interior of Moonga Asian Bistro is totally different! It has been renovated to a modern, beautiful, upscale lounge-type of atmosphere! Wow... very nice! Service was pleasant, welcoming, and accommodating! I called in a reservation and had to change the number of people a couple of times... no problem! I had brought a birthday cake. The staff gave us plates and forks to serve our dessert... thank you! I'm not really sure why this place is so popular. We came on a Saturday night for dinner and they were full. They had us put our names on a waitlist and we waited for 10 minutes while they cleaned off a table. I only agreed to come here because I saw that they had Thai curries on the menu. I'm usually not a fan of "Asian bistros" that offer Chinese, Thai and Japanese cuisines all under one roof, but the husband loves Chinese food, so I agreed because I knew I could get something other than Chinese food here. Until it came to time to order.... The waiter convinced me not to order the curry because they only have spicy curries and are unable to change the spice level. Which means to me that they're all premade curries, probably from a box. So I ordered a sunshine roll, even though getting through the menu was a feat on its own. I don't think it would be hard to find an English speaking person to proofread their menu before printing. It's such a waste because the menus are sturdy and look good, but there are so many typos. Black Angle roll I think was the funniest thing I saw. There are also a bunch of things that have been crossed out. It looks tacky and they've only been open a couple months so I don't understand why they're already out of things. The food doesn't come out at the same time for the whole table. I saw people leave with half eaten plates of food. The table behind us were served the wrong dish and got something taken off their bill because they complained. The sushi roll was good but my husband's chicken was just ok. The service was pretty non existent. We were seen 3 times. Once to order, once to refill waters and once to drop off the check. From my observations, it seems like people come here for the BYOB (I saw one guy bring in a cooler lol) and the newly renovated decor.i think eventually they'll get their liquor license and the "upscale" factor is lost on the terribly written menu. I really wanted to like this place but I think it's because the menu is so extensive that there were no stand-out items that give me the special feels, if you know what I mean. It's not that anything was bad, it was just okay. As for the ambiance, they're trying. Though the bench-seating was a little strange to me because you have to pull out the entire bench, in order to sit back down and scoot it back closer to the table to eat. The server had a mask on the entire time, to each their own, though he was very soft spoken and mumbled quite a bit, and I could not understand a word he was saying, so the service felt off. The parking is a struggle when there are classes going on upstairs. There's quite a bit of people camping out for stalls or double parked in the lot, so may the timing be in your favor. read more

Many of us were excited to try Moongo Asian Bistro (MAB), Asian fusion cuisine that took over the space previously occupied by Pah Ke Restaurant. MAB has quite an extensive menu offering sushi, sashimi, tempura, Thai, Chinese and even a popular local item...Loco Moco! Impressive. I opted for General Tso's chicken, a dish that I would never order with my family. This is a popular dish in the Continental USA where I've eaten it with dorm mates during my college years. My deciding factor was that it was the most promising dish that appealed to me. I also wanted to get something else and was hesitant on ordering sushi as it most likely would be a far cry from what I'm accustomed to at my go to joint. But after I was advised a 2pc amaebi was $12, I also ordered this but requested no sauce to be drizzled on the deep fried shrimp heads. The restaurant didn't seem that busy but it took some time for the food to come out. We utilized the waiting time catching up with each other as it has been some time since we last saw each other. Our food came in staggered stages and I encouraged everyone to eat immediately as food generally tastes better when eaten hot. I hit home run with my selection. General Tso's chicken was executed well. The chicken was deep fried with a nice exterior crunch and had a sweet and spicy glaze over it. The dish also had pineapple chunks, bell peppers, onions, carrots, and broccoli. The entree came with a bowl of white rice. I'd order this again. The amaebi nigiri was quite impressive. Kudos to the chef for amazing plating skills. However, the quality is not to what I'm am accustomed to. The heads were deep fried nicely but once again, I recognized the difference in quality. Edible but I won't order it again. Bonus points for the shiso leaf that really gave the nigiri freshness. Some of my friends ordered Kung Pao Chicken that looked good but they commented chicken was barely to be found. Another friend ordered Mongolian beef where the beef was stringy and challenging to chew. He also ordered unagi nigiri where it didn't look appealing to me at all. Eel was sliced thinly and no wow factor in my books. That friend was sadly disappointed. Service was kinda spotty. There were many wait staff on the floor but we found ourselves flagging the staff down. The staff were very friendly, patient and considerate as we were celebrating a friend's birthday. Staff over brought plates, a knife to slice the cake and even a lighter for the candle when she noticed our lighter had issues. Overall, a positive first experience at MAB where I'd be game for a return visit. I understand MAB is still new and has the typical kinks to resolve with any new business.
