Takeout dinner in Kaneohe, O'ahu, Hawai'i... First to Review was in 2007... Wow... That's a long time ago! So, this Thai restaurant has been in business for almost 20 years! Must be good, right? Located at Windward City Shopping Center, next to Starbucks, Chao Phya Thai Restaurant is visible from Kamehameha Highway. Everyone passes it when entering Kaneohe from the Pali Highway. Inside, it seems rather dim, cozy, and cluttered. The cashier wasn't at her station. I waited around for her. She was chatting with some customers. Another takeout customer came in after me, but at least she cashed me out first. I called in my order: yellow curry (with tofu) and pad see ew (with shrimp). When I paid, there was no printout. I looked at the menu to see the prices. The proteins were an added upcharge. Wow. A bit pricey compared with other Thai restaurants... At home, I enjoyed my meal. However, the food was blander than other Thai cuisine that I have recently had.

This was a hidden gem to find in Kaneohe! I had seen the restaurant for a while and decided to take some out of town guests to check this place out. Needless to say we had a great time! The chef stopped by to review our order and recommended we try the baked oysters (not shown on the menu). The oysters were done similar to oyster Rockefeller but was baked instead. We also tried their bone in prime rib and it came with sides of potatoes and sautéed vegetables (not on the menu). The cashew soup was smooth with a good flavor (not on the menu). The eggplant was also very good and the pad Thai noodles were perfect. Not too gummy and not too crunchy. The service was excellent and after dinner, the chef stopped by to make sure we were satisfied with our meals. Our friends were impressed and said this was the best Thai food they've had and I agree. It was a wonderful experience and I'll be back again. Highly recommend folks check this place out for outstanding Thai fusion cooking!

My boyfriend saw this place and we decided to eat here for dinner. Hardly anyone in here. We ordered quite a bit, 4 plates. We ordered the pork fried rice, noodles, sweet and sour fish and seafood medley. We ended up waiting for a little bit because they had one cook so the waitress gave us free complimentary spring rolls which looked like egg rolls lol Everything was good but I especially liked the seafood medley plate because it had shrimp in it. Waitresses were really nice and promoting new dishes they had. Ambiance was nice and decor was cute. Plenty of parking up front and around. High recommend this place for Thai. Food was delicious.

Food: it was subpar. I did love the service and their eagerness to want us to try different menu items, but we know what we like. Pad see ew is just always my favorite. It was a bit too sweet. Ambiance was chill and clean!! Very family friendly. Parking: easy -- shouldn't have an issue.

Crispy fish with spicy sauce was great.

The staff was really personable and welcoming. Great recommendations and went out of their way to ensure we felt taken care of. Food cake out extremely fast and the portions were a good size and really flavorful. We got spicy and it was just spicy enough to lightly tingle my lips, but not overly spicy to where it's not enjoyable. We will definitely be returning to this place, but although there's plenty of space and it's family friendly, it's just not financially sustainable for us to bring our kids. Quality food comes at a cost and it was just under 100 (not counting tip) for 3 plates, bowl of jasmine rice and water. Adding 3 kids to that tab would only be upon request for special occasions (birthdays, graduations, etc). Overall great staff, location, ambiance and food. Looking forward to the next visit

They are very friendly, making drink and food suggestions. They took our orders fast before16 party came in. Appetizer: Seasoned fish cake, chewy texture, very tasty, laid on lettuce and wanted another, but given only four pieces...needed to behave! Main dish: seasoned fried fish was fantastic, many texture (crunchy, flaky, delicate), carrots, basil, mushrooms, lettuce, asparagus, and etc. This an absolute dis to eat. You don't need the sauce....makes it savory though. Side: purple rice... This was a fantastic meal and worth coming back to! Ciao!!!

The Tom Ka soup was really great! They used real galangal and you could taste it! The of Thai was also tasty and the staff was very friendly.

But if I'm on the Windward side, this is my go-to, all the time. They have one of the most extensive menus I've seen in a Vietnamese joint--everything from bahn mi, to udon noodles, to curries, to pho, to noodle soups, to appetizers, to à la carte entrees, to desserts. There is something for everyone and it gives me reason to keep coming back to try different dishes. So far, I had the shrimp udon (but slurped that up so quickly I didn't get a picture), papaya salad, lemongrass tofu vermicelli, and shrimp summer rolls. Hubby enjoyed the Pho, MIL adores the pork udon. Came here on a date, with the MIL, and with friends. Received great service each time and devoured all our dishes with delight. Not one thing to complain about. Also love their variety of sauces available on the table--don't even have to ask! The coffee was delicious too. I had it black and it was rich and smooth, no bitterness at all. And I split the fried banana dessert with friends (avoided the ice cream)...which I should mention I'm pescatarian and I avoid dairy. Love a place where I can enjoy my meal along with the company of my meat-eating, dairy-drinking loved ones. Again, something for everyone. Parking is on the side of the building. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Restrooms are very clean. Worth the drive to the 96744 zip code. Will definitely be back soon!

Inside/Outside Seating: Tight seating inside but it felt cozy during the rainstorms we've been having. They also have beautiful outdoor seating too. Definitely a nice homey gem to take someone special. Food: this place is definitely underrated. The vermicelli, pho, stir fried udon, all bangers. Theres only such a handful of super good food on this side and I'm definitely adding it to my list. The food is simple no frills but it tastes like a nice homemade meal with love. I really appreciate that they don't load half of the vermicelli dish with veggies. Instead, they gave us the veggies on the side. Service: Friendly Mom and Pops ran establishment. The owners actually have several other locations in town called "Pho Viet" but each is equally as tasty in my opinion. Overall 4/5 because I've tasted the best of the best and this is close!

How lucky was that!? This "minor misfortune" of the long line resulted in my sampling an extraordinary Bahn Mi sandwich. I'll keep this short, and simply share that the lemongrass chicken version of their Bahn, was, as the kids say these days, "FIRE!" . I'm embarrassed to say that I only discovered Bahn mi sandwiches about 3 years ago, but have loved them ever since. The overall experience of chomping down on a typical Bahn mi is that the combination of textures that come from the marriage of "crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside" bread, and the soft flavorful meats and crunchy vegetables is pleasurable. But toss in the flavors that range from savory to tangy to sweet, and then off to spicy, are pretty-much as close to the definition of what a harmonious and complementary meal, that excites the tastebuds, should be. I've probably had 30 of them in my life, and I would say, Saigon Noodle puts one together that just moved into my personal favorite for this blended cultures sandwich. The owner served me, and he's one of those guys who you instantly like. It's hard to put words together to describe why he was so likable and pleasant, but on my visit, his "A-game" of friendliness and charm was on. But, even if he had a "Bahn Mi Nazi" personality, I'd still go for the sam-ich. It was really good!!

Adela's is a small, take-out order only place, but extremely busy. We phoned in the order ahead of time and the wait time was about 45 mins. We got the Sweet Potato Noodles with Garlic Butter and Lechon. Gracious, it was delicious. Worth every penny. The lechon was crispy, tender, and flavorful. The noodles had the perfect texture and paired flawlessly with the garlic butter. We also got Okinawan Sweet Potato Poi Bread, but this unfortunately was blown out of the water by the noodles. She seemed like she was not too fond of tourists at all. To make things worse, there is no indoor seating. Since we were so far from our hotel, we ended up having to eat the food in our car. The food itself had massive highs and lows. The Lechon Pork Belly was amazing and delicious. I wish it had a few more purple onions, but the meat itself was a solid 10/10. However, the Garlic Butter Shrimp was horrible. It was probably the worst I have had in a very long time. The large photos on the actual menu inside the restaurant show large, unpeeled shrimp. What we actually got was small, already-peeled shrimp that tasted more like freezer burn than actual garlic butter. The service issues continued when I picked up the food. I noticed my Coke was missing and asked for it. The lady handing out the food asked the cashier if I had been charged for a soda, and the cashier said no. I know for a fact I paid for it after doing the math myself. There were other people waiting in line behind me, so I just said forget it, took my food, and left. Go for the pork belly, but skip the shrimp, double-check your receipt, and prepare for a cold shoulder at the counter.
