Pad See Ew
Rebecca C.

Classic Thai food spot. Rich flavor, decent amount of spice, lots of vegetables and meat. We really enjoyed the cut of noodles of the pad see ew. Good parking, quick service, and lots of indoor seating. Seems like it would be great for takeout as well.

$20 portion + $1 beef So sad looking and barely a cup of food.

We ordered 5 different items and they were all tasty. My big complaint is the portion vs price. I opened my take out box and it was not even halfway full. I decided to call and tell them that there may have been a mistake and I didn't receive a full portion. They doubled down and told me that they were correct and would not refund my item or give me a corrected portion. This is very unfortunate because you can tell they are struggling. Every time I go in there it is empty and the restaurant is very hot because their air condition set up is garbage.

Parking is scarce, had to park at Target

Entire staff is welcoming and very helpful in recommending items from their extensive menu. The portions are not small but it takes a couple of entrees to fill you up. Very good flavor and texture. The prices were fair and the food came out relatively fast considering the venue was packed.

Saeng's is located in Kailua, next to Formaggio's and the pist office & is our favorite Thai restaurant! Why does it make it our favorite? 1. Service- From the hostess to the waitress to the. food server to the waterboy, everyone is so nice and on top of their game. And Kudos to the Chef who gives huge portions, so it's okay to have a little wait for your food! 2. Atmosphere- It's not a big restaurant but it transports you to Thailand with their exquisite wood statues and artwork . 3. They are the only Thai restaurant ( at least on the Windward side) that makes my favorite dish Mee Krob!! Mee Krob is a Krispy thin noodle dish that seems to be tossed in a sweet plum sauce, garnished with bean sprouts and scallions and is absolutely yummy!! 4. Their corkage fee is only $10!! They are closed from 3-5pm and always people waiting to be seated right at 5pm, so reservations are suggested. Also parking is limited, but you can park across the street If you haven't try it, you should!

Had the best dining experience at this Thai restaurant! Susan was our server, and she was fantastic. The place has such an inviting vibe and the ambience is just right. The food? Absolutely amazing. ALL HOMEMADE!!! Isn't that the best thing ever... It's hands down the best tasting Thai food I've had on Oahu. We tried the yellow curry, panang curry, pad kee mao, and pad thai--all were 10/10. Also, a big shoutout to the staff for being super nice about us staying a bit after closing. Highly recommend this spot!

We were recommended this place by a family member and glad we got the chance to try Saeng's! We were in Kailua so we decided to try this place that was recommended to us. When I searched them on Yelp it says that they close on Fridays at 2pm, but when I called they were open. It also says they're closed on Saturday & Sundays but I would recommend calling since the hours don't seem accurate. Anyways, the gentlemen on the phone was very nice & helpful. I ordered the crispy fried chicken, spring rolls, and asked him to recommend one other dish with mixed veggies. He suggested the Thai ginger with mixed veggies & pork. We also got a side of jasmine rice. The fried chicken was not a huge portion but tasty and comes with the sweet chili sauce. The spring rolls comes with lettuce, mint & cucumbers. And the Thai ginger dish we got medium spice and this was my favorite dish! It came with pork (your choice of protein), baby corn, zucchini, onions, carrots, green beans & broccoli. I would've liked it spicy but we got it mild for personal reasons. Nonetheless, it was really tasty and they gave a generous portion. The sauce that they cook it in has a lot of flavor and taste really good when you pour it on your rice. The waiter/cashier gentleman who helped us with our order was very very nice and he was even so accommodating to bring our order to our car when it was ready. They do take a while to make your order so I recommend calling them about half an hour ahead of time so that you don't have to be waiting around there unless you don't mind. There is minimal parking, but I heard there's also parking in the back or across the street if you can't find parking right in front. Thank you to my aunty & uncle for the recommendation! We enjoyed our dinner & hope to be back again one day when we're on that side of the island.

If I could I would rate this a Zero. Should've known food was going to be less than mediocre after I drank my Thai Tea. "Tisanes Herbal Thai Tea" is far superior than that cat piss they served me in a cup. Ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and all 4 were lacking the basic 5 ingredients (spicy, sour, sweet, savory & salty) that makes Thai food Thai food. Hard pass...

I ordered the volcano garlic ramen as extra punishment to the floating pork and sunken noodles. Something about a dreary day will always elevate my rating of hot soups, ramens, and curries. As you increase from spicy level 1 to 4 you incur an additional charge each level topping out at $2.00. Will you weigh the salt and pepper shakers afterwards too?

Unfortunately there was a piece of plastic in one of the kid's bowls - I think they were ripping the pre-made plastic package of ramen into the pot or something and left a shred of plastic in there. The second problem was the A/C, which was on Full Blast and it was freeezing inside. The issue is that there's outdoor seating and the waiter had to open and close the entrance/exit door constantly and this caused the temp to drop and the A/C auto kicks in with full blast to re-cool. They should have a service exit/entrance from the kitchen but that's not possible I don't think.

I ordered the shrimp katsu ramen with a shoyu egg. The broth and noodles were excellent and really the highlight of the dish. I wasn't a huge fan of the shrimp katsu on its own since it was a bit chewy, but once it soaked in the broth, it was much better. The portion size was just right, filling without being too much. Overall, a solid ramen spot, especially if you're already in Kailua.

They forgot our miso soup and brought out edamame instead of the menma (bamboo shoots) we ordered. We had the gomoku ramen, spicy beef ramen, gyoza, lemon tea, a side of menma, and shrimp tempura udon. The gyoza and lemon tea were delicious, but they couldn't outweigh the negatives. According to my family, two out of the three soups tasted like dish soap. We were too exhausted after work to send them back, but it was honestly gross. To top it off, the single-stall unisex bathroom had that same foul odor. I wouldn't recommend Daiichi Ramen. Serving 'dish soap soup' is unacceptable in food service. You're better off heading to the nearby Burger King or Safeway for late-night eats.

How lucky was that!? This "minor misfortune" of the long line resulted in my sampling an extraordinary Bahn Mi sandwich. I'll keep this short, and simply share that the lemongrass chicken version of their Bahn, was, as the kids say these days, "FIRE!" . I'm embarrassed to say that I only discovered Bahn mi sandwiches about 3 years ago, but have loved them ever since. The overall experience of chomping down on a typical Bahn mi is that the combination of textures that come from the marriage of "crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside" bread, and the soft flavorful meats and crunchy vegetables is pleasurable. But toss in the flavors that range from savory to tangy to sweet, and then off to spicy, are pretty-much as close to the definition of what a harmonious and complementary meal, that excites the tastebuds, should be. I've probably had 30 of them in my life, and I would say, Saigon Noodle puts one together that just moved into my personal favorite for this blended cultures sandwich. The owner served me, and he's one of those guys who you instantly like. It's hard to put words together to describe why he was so likable and pleasant, but on my visit, his "A-game" of friendliness and charm was on. But, even if he had a "Bahn Mi Nazi" personality, I'd still go for the sam-ich. It was really good!!
