My buddies and I came here for lunch on Sat, they are a big fan of willows which is why we came here. It's a nice little restaurant, seats approx 60, with a casual setting, with very good service, maybe cause our group is very known, and sorry to say just ok food. We all ordered the three choices for $25 Lunch special. I got their bulgogi, was dry, chix katsu, sauce was different not the usual and was just ok, and shoyu chix, which was also dry. You had a choice between veggies and Mac salad so I got veggies. Pile of bean sprouts, pass, shred cabbage with a small dabble of thousand island dressing, and some crisp marinated carrots and turnip, which was the best. In short, prob not coming back here again, unless the guys want to. Side note, their Kim Chee was fairly good read more

I went for the Spicy Chicken Katsu, and it was easily the star of the table. The breading was crisp but not greasy, the chicken tender, and the sauce--sweet, tangy, and packing just the right amount of heat--took the dish beyond your standard plate lunch fare. It's unique enough to stand out and flavorful enough that I'd recommend it without hesitation. My wife ordered the Meat Jun and Mul Mandoo. Both were solid, but honestly, a little forgettable. The meat jun leaned on the thinner side, and while not bad, it didn't carry the depth or richness you hope for in a well-marinated cut. The mandoo were fine--light, chewy, and paired well with the dipping sauce--but nothing that begged for a reorder. Interestingly, she ended up enjoying the free appetizers (banchan) more than her entrées, which says something about the balance of the meal. More like 3.5 stars for food, service and ambiance. This was my second time trying this place. I ordered the vegetable stir fry which came with rice and banchan. The soup with the light broth was probably my favorite. The broccoli in the stir fry was undercooked, and overall portion size was small considering the price. Tip - There's really no vegetarian options because the vegetable stir fry was cooked with oyster sauce. They also have a tofu stew but they wanted to charge extra if I take out the beef and added more vegetables. read more

Our retirement group chose this place for this month's lunch meet. If you like Korean food, this is a good place to come. Service was great, lots of parking, & the food was pretty tasty. I had the Meat Jun/Bulgogi combo. The Bulgogi meat was very tender & they have a good Meat Jun sauce. If I had to pick on something, avoid the Mac salad (too much mayo in it). 0/10 do not recommend! Fruit flys everywhere, we had to smash it on the wall and would land in our food. Bathroom is absolutely disgusting. You have to wonder why the Kalbi is so great, i guess when the kitchen and bathroom is disgusting that adds some great seasoning to it. Seriously, peak in the bathroom and kitchen and check for yourself. They also have a mosquito killer by the register so while you enjoy your food you can hear bugs being killed. I don't understand why this place has this much great reviews. Besides the Kalbi, they should really get the food inspector in here. I'd score them a RED, as it this place must be shut down!!! read more

The food was ok tonight. Our foursome said if it wasn't for the sauces the food was rather bland tonight. They're busy at 5:30 on Saturday so you must expect it to be slower than usual. They had 3 servers that were helping one another and that was good. The ambiance is booth style and small but I bet the lease isn't. Prices were reasonable for the portion of food. We will probably go back when in the area from time to time if in the mood for Korean. I've lived in Korea so I appreciated the extra dishes that come with the meal. The cabbage soup broth had great depth and was delicious along with their kimchi, potato chunks, cubed tofu with great sauce on it as well as the bean sprouts and medley of shredded cucumber lettuce and carrots. I haven't been here in a while and was craving it, so decided to drive over to pick up dinner. I love their meat jun. It's flavorful and they give a lot. I also enjoy that they don't skimp on the amount of sauce they give. I LOVE their kimchi. I like the flavor of it. The other banchans are just ok for me. I will probably ask for all kimchi next time and see if they can make that happen. Definitely more expensive for dinner, so I think the lunch special is better. Located in Aikahi by the Safeway, Willow Tree is the perfect hole-in-the-wall Korean restaurant. Lots of seating, friendly staff. We all opted for the lunch special which is available from 11-4 daily. Lots of options to choose from but I opted for these 3: - Mandoo, Meat Jun and Spicy Katsu This also came with side kimchee, rice and soup (not pictured!). Little cute restaurant with good amount of tables for customers. Make sureFirst thing that caught my eye was the lunch combo special on the back of the menu where u can pick 3 items, come with rice, soup, kimchee, and choice of vegetables or Mac salad, all for $21.95. Luckily we got there a little before 4, right before 345. The lunch combo is available from 11-4. They did have a variety of other options, they had lunch plates, noodle options, soup options, and general menu options. Customer service was great. Ladies were really nice. Talked the wife into getting the lunch combo, so I got kalbi, bbq chicken, and mandoo, and the wife got bulgogi, fried spicy chicken wings, and japchae. I enjoyed my food. Was good like any other kbbq place. Wife said her food was good. She really liked the fried chicken wings (wasnt even spicy she said), and she liked the bulgogi. She didn't care for the japchae. Willow Tree has pretty great Korean food. I've noticed that prices have gone up and that a plate will cost you about $20, but I keep coming back because it's delicious and there aren't that many good Korean restaurants on in Kailua. I like the spicy chicken katsu, the meat jun and the kalbi. The interior is kind of old, but it feels homey. The waitstaff is nice, too. There are only about ten 2 or 4 top tables, so this isn't a place for large groups of people. The line to get in can get long too if you're coming during peak lunch or dinner times. On my most recent visit, I called in my order and I guess the girl misheard me, because when I went in to pick up my order, it wasn't right. But I paid for what they made and I ate it because I was kind of in a rush to get somewhere. I really wanted an appetizer /side order of Mandoo, but instead was given a Mandoo plate. It came in two full sized take out containers. The girls working looked kind of young, so I wonder if they only have certain workers working at certain times. I went in around 4:30pm, which was very much before the dinner rush since I know there is usually a line during lunch and dinner. If you eat in, you get a small bowl of soup and a few banchan. It's kind of small portions and not refillable. The radish soup that is served with entrees is pretty delicious, but I wouldn't just come here for the radish soup. I should really try other things on the menu because I'm sure it's all good. read more

It's not common for a Korean place to have shoyu chicken so I gave it a shot cuz I love new some good shoyu chicken. Was bomb. The banchan (side dishes) were authentic and tasty. We also ordered mandoo which was extremely tasty. There are a variety of entrees available which are all in the $20 range. The food here is so delicious! I'm so used to the Japchae at fast food places so I was pleasantly surprised theirs had meat and lots of veggies in it and so delicious. They're back open for sit down dining! Be sure to try the sizzling Kalbi and spicy chicken katsu but ask for the spicy sauce on the side so you still get both the regular katsu sauce with the spicy. They also have a really good kimchee which I purchase by the half pound container if they have enough to sell. read more

We always visited Willow Tree when we visited Hawaii. Their kabli was always good. I will try to get there early because it tends to have people waiting if you go there during peak hours. Highly recommend it if you are in Kailua. read more
