I think for a sushi option in Kahala Mall to dine-in this is the best and only option and pretty decent. I always opt for take-out though and get the spicy tuna don. Really good choice for a quick lunch/dinner. Dine-in was fine too and service is helpful and friendly. Came here around 6pm for dinner on a weekday and to my surprise there was no wait as there typically is. Despite the signs saying they were "short staffed and patience was appreciated", they honestly could have fooled me because they didn't lack in service or attentiveness. The servers made sure to always stop by to see if we needed anything. The food came out in a timely matter and tasted fresh. It's the perfect neighborhood spot to go when you're craving a bowl, sushi, sashimi and more. Compared to genki their portion sizes are larger and it taste fresher. The hamachi Kama is usually very large and still a decent price at $18 compared to other places. The fish quality is consistent and although the rice is a little thick, I enjoy most of the items I've tried. They do not serve alcohol. But they do have soft drinks and tea. The staff is friendly. Haven't been to Kuru Kuru since going to the Pearl Kai location. We did come at the busy 1230 lunch hour so place was packed. Had a good 25 min walk wait for tables to clear. However once we were seated, our order was quickly taken and food came out a short wait later. I'm glad they still had a Black Friday special for a Hamachi Don for $8.75. That was great value of the meal. The hamachi was nice and buttery. Also ordered the Salmon belly, nice crisp outside and soft and melt in your mouth inside. Been coming here for years. The evening we came for a quick dinner. When we got there it was a short wait to get seated at the bar. Servers were really quick and nice. We had hot tea and they made sure to keep us topped off. I got a spicy tuna bowl and it's my go to. The rice is seasoned and the tuna comes in cube chunks and the spicy mayo sauce is not heavy or super spicy. It was nice and quiet at the time we came by. Stopped by KuruKuru Sushi for an early weekday dinner to avoid traffic, and it was the perfect timing. Since it's located inside Kahala Mall, parking is easy and there's plenty of seating, so there was no wait when we arrived. KuruKuru has been one of my go-to sushi spots ever since the Pearl Kai location closed, mainly because they consistently offer good quality sushi at really reasonable prices. The sign in clipboard upfront makes it easy to see the wait time if at all and you can request for either a booth for bigger parties and added comfort or the counter seats for a quick bite without staying too long. The restaurant is split up this way 50/50. The spicy ahi is still just as delicious as I remember, and the portion of chicken karaage is huge and super satisfying. One pro tip: order a side of unagi sauce to drizzle on your rolls -- it adds a great sweet, umami flavor that really elevates the meal. Service is always quick and attentive, and I still recognize a few of the same servers after years of coming here, which says a lot about the consistency of the place. Has it been so long that I haven't ate here that I realized they raised their prices? Besides the price change, the quality of the food is still really great! I love how they give thick pieces of fish for the nigiri and use good quality. They also had curry bowls, udon, etc. I tried the plain udon and loved how the noodles weren't super thick. Broth was really good too. My favorite is the seared salmon w/ white onions!! So good and thinking about it now makes me crave for it. The employees were really on it during our visit. Service was quick and there was surprisingly no wait despite it being dinner time rush hour which now makes sense after experiencing it for the first time in years. You pay for what you order (not all-you-can-eat), and while there is a conveyor belt, there actually wasn't much on it--most of the good stuff has to be ordered directly. Unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. Our waitress, who had long turquoise hair, was extremely rude throughout our visit. Every time we tried to order something, she'd cut us off with a curt "Anything else?" and walk away mid-order, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. She never came by to check on us--we had to flag her down each time we wanted to order more, and she acted visibly annoyed every single time. It's really disappointing, because the food was great. But the negative attitude from the server made the whole experience uncomfortable. I might go back for the sushi, but only if I knew I'd get a different server. Quick and cheap go-to sushi spot when on this side of the island. Service is always good and quick even when it's busy. Usually never a long wait to sit. Still no sushi on the revolving belt since covid :( but food comes out at a good timeframe (rather order it fresh anyway). Fish and poke are decent quality and flavored nice but my only downside is their portions of rice in the rolls. So... much... rice. My boyfriend can barely finish a 4pc roll because it's usually like 75% rice every time. Even my avocado roll is packed with so much rice. We usually eat the rolls last because we know we'd get full quick. Reduce the rice and we'd definitely order waaaay more food without feeling full. The staff was nice enough and was able to take us in right away, but if it wasn't for the stuffiness in the restaurant we would've gone in. I'm not sure if the AC is working in there or not and I get that it's summer, but that's a big part of the reason we wanted to go out and eat tonight. Some decent sushi in comfortable climate.
