I've been wanting to try Sushi ii for yearssss now but just haven't gotten to do so. So when the perfect opportunity came up, I decided now's the time! I booked a reservation for my boyfriend's birthday because the both of us have never been here before. And it definitely was a good decision. He ordered the crispy shrimp, crab nigiri with kani miso, and amaebi nigiri and it came with the miso soup with the head of the shrimp. And we both got the same sushi sets. It came with all the good stuff and good amount! Everything tasted so fresh and very good. The uni and the ika were my favorite nigiri's on the platter! When we got there we were able to choose where we wanted to sit because it wasn't so crowded. So we chose to sit in the side room which was nice because there was only one other couple there so we didn't have to sit so close to people and could have our own conversations peacefully lol I'm so glad we got to try Sushi ii and hope to be back again sometime.

Fried baby octopus. A tad chewy

Came here for a dinner date with my hubs, sitting at the counter. We didn't do omakase as there isn't officially one like some other restaurants. It's pretty much you sit down and the chef would serve you sushi until you say stop, and our server said it's roughly about $10 a piece. Since it's our first time here, and they have an extensive menu, we decided to go for the assorted sushi with maki plate to try it out first before we potentially commit to an omakase next time. We had about 10 pieces of nigiri and 10 pieces of tuna maki. Thats a lot of food for the price actually! (Lots of rice) the nigiri that stood out to us was the ika, eel, akami, hamachi, botan shrimp. The ika was not chewy at all. So smooth and a pleasant. And omg we both normally don't like eel but that piece was perfectly charred with slight crisps on the edge! It might be the best eel nigiri I've had. Their akami was really fresh, even though it's not my favorite. Hamachi and botan shrimp was of good quality as well! Some disappointments though - Chutoro was a tad bit stringy, and the salmon was close to abysmal. It didn't taste fatty or fresh at all. Not good quality. We also got some small apps before our sushi plate. The deep fried baby octopus could've been better. It's on the chewy side. Baby octopus is a hit or miss really. When it's good it's really good. I love how they had ankimo. The sauce and the shredded daikon and shiso leaf went really well together. I devoured the whole plate. Overall it's a pleasant meal and we had a great evening. Not everyone sat at the bar. Groups were sitting at tables. Parking gets better when you go inside the lot, away from the narrow lane of the entrance/exit of the lot. We got free validation from the restaurant.

Super fresh sushi and very attentive waithelp. One of the better chirashi bowls in town and worth the $49.

10/10 omakase experience and the oysters were to die for. Sat at the bar and loved the service and ambiance.

Located in the most kamikaze pkg lot on keeaumoku, only cuz it shares pkg with other businesses mostly restaurants. this place is a gem for drinks and pupus. The food is always fresh and tasty with a nice array of choices. I actually never had anything yet that was sub par. I do love the Kama cuz it comes with tsuri daikon. Best to make reservations if you want to come during peak times.

Delicious little gem tucked away at a small plaza. Tried the chef omakase which is basically customizable to how many pieces of nigiri sushi that your heart desires roughly $10/piece. They come 4 pieces at a time. Quite full already after 8 pieces but forgot to stop the chef and I was greedy for uni so ended up eating 15 pieces. Haha Super fresh raw fish especially the Australian langostino (small lobster) and Kinki fish and house marinated ikura. Overall very good value compared to other omakase I have researched.

Sushi ii. Let us speak plainly--because poetry is wasted on the unworthy and hyperbole falls short when faced with the sublime. Tucked into an unassuming corner of Honolulu, Sushi ii is not merely a restaurant. It is a shrine. A sanctuary of obsession. The kind of place where ingredients are not sourced--they are summoned, weekly, from the icy coasts of Japan like tribute to a demanding and discerning god. The chef? A surgeon with a blade, a poet with vinegar. His knives whisper secrets into slivers of Hokkaido uni so fresh, they still taste of the cold sea wind that kissed them hours before. His rice? Ah, the Hokkaido rice--each grain a tiny jewel, warm, seasoned with restraint and reverence, holding together like a quiet promise. This is not your average sticky filler. This is rice composed with the same seriousness as a haiku. The toro melts. The kinmedai glows. The ankimo tastes like butter that's read philosophy. Every cut, every brush of nikiri, every seasonal flourish--executed with an intensity that borders on spiritual. You don't come here for ambiance. You come here because you're a worshipper. A believer. Or a fool who's about to be converted by one piece of otoro so rich, it'll make you question every decision you've ever made about food and fidelity. Yes, it's expensive. But mediocrity is cheap, and this--this is transcendence wrapped in seaweed. Sushi ii doesn't serve sushi. It serves clarity. And if you don't understand that, perhaps you weren't meant to.

Another great visit. Soft shell and Ava salmon roll were scrumptious. Bone marrow was rich and flavorful. Sashimi and sushi combo was fresh and delicious! Service was quick and spot on. Ambiance was upbeat and enjoyable. I'll be back!

This is a very small restaurant buried in a strip mall. It can be a challenge to find, but worth it to come. While this is not my favorite sushi place on the island, but it very good and highly recommend to come. My tip would be to order your sushi in waves so that the fish does not warm up. I ordered the sushi platter and was savoring a bit too long and some of the fish did not taste as fresh at the end. I recommend making reservations and sitting at the sushi bar. Appetizers: fried baby octopus were crunchy and full of flavor and highly recommend. The medley of mushrooms were delicious! The flavor profile on the mushrooms were unlike anything I ate before. Sushi: ordered the sushi platter and it was gorgeous! The fish portions are quite generous and the textures. I was also able to ask for some sushi to be removed. I don't like uni (sea urchin) and tamago (egg) sushi. They removed and I was happy. Again eat your sushi fast for the ultimate freshness. Service: fast and excellent Bathroom cleanliness: average, there is one tiny bathroom in the other part of the restaurant. Restaurant cleanliness: bar area was very clean

    Everything wonderful.

Food was fresh and tasty, service was good. We were able to make a reservation easily and sat promptly when we arrived. I am never disappointed when I dine at Sushi ii!

It's a small cozy place. Appetizers were very tasty but some items were kind of small. The lamb was over cooked but the other items were good. The sushi was excellent so I definitely will go back. Parking sucks during peak hours, I had to park on the street. Please see my pics on what I ate.

I also don't understand how Yelp lists this place as a "good for kids". It's not. There wasn't a kids' menu and the dishes were not kid-palate friendly (other than maybe the basic California style hand roll). For example, the fried tofu had shredded ginger on top that permeated the dish and the karaage had a very mild (but present!) note of spice that reminded me a bit of buffalo sauce. Our waiter didn't even give us a heads up or point us in the direction of any dishes to consider for the kids (surely we must not be the only family who has brought kids to this restaurant). Lastly, I understand that the tempura brownie is popular but after tasting the "tempura" on the tofu I'm sure the brownie is just the star that shines through. The "tempura" on the tofu was gummy and not the authentic Japanese tempura we are used to (my husband, who is part Japanese, said to me "What is this?! Cornstarch?"). This is probably a great restaurant for drinks and hanging out with some adult friends but the rolls and appetizers were just not to our tastes. We were also sat outside when the restaurant was near empty inside and out (we went around 4PM) and it was a hot day (though the AC wasn't particularly cool enough for my preference inside either).

The chefs and staff also had a good sense of humor. Everything was simply delicious! Fast forward a few months, I order a couple sushi sets to host a poolside, golden-hour birthday get together at my other friend's home. (I know, you want to be part of this squad, right?!). Anyway, using the online order system is a snap! My hubby went in to pick up the sushi and said they were slammed but our sushi sets were ready to go. This time we ordered some ikura because the hubby and my bestie are big fans. Both agree it was fresh and fantastic! And the garlic set with the flash-seared fish and a hint of mayo is a MUST-try. We also ordered a California roll for my friend's aunt who is not really a sushi fan. She delighted in several pieces and even enjoyed the nigiri from the garlic set. Total convert! After enjoying the platters and sets, we had to try the bentos and bowls. This time it's just us and the pup at the park. The bentos provide a great variety and comes with miso soup. The hubby really likes the shrimp tempura with ahi and salmon nigiri and ahi poke. It's a steal at less than $20. I'm a bowl girl myself and like the spicy tempura. The tempura is cooked crisp yet tender. The spicy ahi poke combined with the creamy crab salad and the crunchy ocean salad delights all my tastes buds. It's truly an adventure in finding the perfect bite--and there are so many in this bowl! I also love the seared salmon bowl. It is melt-in-your-mouth goodness. I add the fried onions for some texture. You know a place is top-notch when you can feel confident that anything off their menu will satisfy your cravings. Because this is a Yelp review, here are some helpful tips. For sushi platters, pre-order. The online system is simple to use. Service is fast and efficient if you're just walking in for a quick bite or to grab something to go. Parking has always been easy for us to find in the small lot in the complex where Domo is located. It's right next to Assagio's Kahala. But if you're worried about parking, I suggest ordering in advance and then just picking up. This works great during peak dining hours. If you want fresh, delicious sushi that is reasonably priced be like us and visit Domo Café. You will probably also be like us and want to go back to try more.
