Kats Sushi is a pretty small place, but the outdoor seating changes the math quite a bit. It looks like it expands capacity to roughly two to three times the inside space. I went for the all-you-can-eat before the 10K run this year and ended up ordering five rounds. At $32.50 per person, this felt like a solid deal, especially given the pace of service and how quickly food kept coming out The rice arrived hot, which is one of those small details that tells you a lot. It tasted fresh, and it also suggested they were turning orders around fast. My favorites were the hamachi, maguro, and ika. For rolls, the salmon skin stood out. This place has been around for years and it's actually been years since I've been back. We came for our daughters birthday. Reservations are a must. It is AYCE but you are a limited to a certain amount at a time in order not to waste. Everything we ate was delicious and brought out in an appropriate amount of time. My favorite is the Hamachi. The hand rolls were just OK. I thought I would've loved the scallop thinking there were big pieces but it is not. The restaurant is super small inside so be prepared to be really close to the next table. I visited Kat's Sushi last night and had an experience that left us pretty uncomfortable. I want to start by saying we genuinely appreciated the chef behind the counter--he was preparing all of the sushi by hand, completely on his own, and that level of effort didn't go unnoticed. That said, the situation with the service really changed the tone of our night. We had asked for unagi sauce with our meal, and after finishing it, we requested more. The older woman bringing out our food made a comment that the chef was questioning why we would order unagi sauce, saying it "ruins the flavor of the fish" and that you can't even taste the fish with it. Before that moment, our table was full of laughter and we were having a great time. But as soon as she said that, the entire mood shifted. It didn't feel like a light comment--it felt pointed and judgmental. We all went quiet, avoided eye contact, and suddenly felt really self-conscious about how we were eating our food. It honestly made us feel uncomfortable enough that we just wanted to finish up and leave. No one wants to feel judged while paying $170 to enjoy a meal the way they like it. I completely understand that chefs have a vision for how their food should be experienced, but the way that message was delivered made us feel awkward and embarrassed rather than informed. First time we went, it was great, until the end. Our last round of sushi tasted like straight up rice vinegar. We couldn't taste anything but vinegar in every piece. We felt as if they were purposely doing so to ensure we wouldn't eat anymore. However, the service, younger girl staff were kind and attentive. It was my cousins birthday last night and his girlfriend chose this place to host a rather large surprise party. Since inside seats maybe 10 people, they placed us outside with some conjoined plastic outdoor tables. My family is notorious for being late but the servers said we weren't allowed to order until everyone arrived. About 5 mins in and it starts raining. And we are FULLY EXPOSED. No cover of anything, our shoyu and ginger getting drenched in rain. They pull the outdoor cover but it only covered the tables next to us, and we continue getting rained on. After the other tables empty up they finally move us over. They do eventually retract the cover and part of our table gets rained on again later on lol. Anyway, the rest of our party finally arrives and we get to order, except not really because there's a mandatory first platter of sushi we get served with salmon, hamachi, tai, unagi, and ahi nigiri. Roughly 50 pieces of sushi per 6-8 people. I will say, it was pretty good, but not what I wanted LOL. The unagi and hamachi were the best things in that first platter. Every order after that is limited to 5 different types of sushi per table, unlimited amount for those 5 choices.Ex, for our first order we got 2 natto, 4 cucumber rolls , 5 Cali rolls, 2 ume rolls, and 5 orders of ebi nigiri (1 order of nigiri is 2 pieces). Sitting in a group where everyone wants different things is STRESSFUL in this situation. 2 of the people at our table don't eat fish, my grandma was the only one that wanted natto, my cousin, fiance and I were the only ones that wanted spicy stuff. and my grandma is sitting closest to the waitress so she's ordering all her own stuff rogue and taking up all the slots so no one else is getting food! After 3 rounds of orders my aunty tries to request to switch to Ala carts because she "only ate 3 things" but of course she can't do that cuz... well duh. I really commend the waitress for being so accommodating to our crazy family lol. All in all, the rolls were really good (the spicy masago and salmon skin were my favorites) and you definitely get your money's worth! Also, you can make small modifications to your orders too (i.e. if you want it spicy or with cucumber or oshinko). I ordered the all-you-can-eat; was quite hungry after skipping lunch and being really messed up on my routine schedule due to being in HI for a quick work trip from CA. I tried a slew of nigiri sushi and one or two hand rolls - everything was delicious and fresh, simple yet satisfying, with quick service. My mom & I went on a Fri night and were seated after about 15 mins--a lot quicker than we expected. Our server explained the menu since it was our first time. We chose the regular ayce. Food was delicious. Generous portions of fish in the sushi. Especially enjoyed the snowflake salmon and fresh eel. Good variety of options and food came out fast. This place is an absolute staple for me. Sushi is typically expensive EVERYWHERE, so if you imagine AYCE sushi, it's either gonna leave you feeling broke or such poor quality that you'd be on the toilet for the next few days. Kats has neither of those issues and I am never ever disappointed, broke, nor hungry when I leave. The folks serving and the chefs are very nice, quick to check for any empty plates and see if you'd like more rather than a KBBQ place where they purposely don't check on you in you eat too fast. The spot is so nice and cute, very much giving the vibe of a little Japanese restaurant. My girlfriend and I will be regulars here since it's been a long time between my three visits, but we have no plan on finding anywhere new. A previous reviewer warned about sitting outside because of sudden rains. Well, we were outside and it rained--hard. Not the fault of the restaurant, but just be warned that if you don't get a table or the sushi bar inside, it's a possibility. They moved us inside and found us a couple of seats at the sushi bar. Other than that, it was a good experience. Service was great. Sitting on the patio was great until it rained. The fish was very good. The cuts were well done. Based on YELP's reviews and recommendations/suggestions, we made a reservation. An all you can eat (AYCE) sushi experience worth experiencing. Located at the ground floor of an innocuous office building, it turns into an AYCE experience during dinner and it's a great experience. MAKE RESERVATIONS as it quickly gets crowded. Depending upon the time your arrive, you have the choice of being indoors or outdoors. We chose indoors. The system of ordering takes a bit of getting used to - based on the number in your party, you order items and the sushi chef diligently prepares the order for each person. What you receive is an awesome cornucopia of sushi you order - the quality for the price and quantity is unable to be beat. In addition to the nigiri, you can also order an assortment of rolls. The establishment does NOT have a liquor license so it's BYOB - bring your favorite beer, sake, or sochu to accompany your meal. It will be a good complement to the water/hot tea served. Seating inside is a bit small, but there is seating outside - recommend inside as the turn-around time is quicker (my opinion). Service is relatively quick and the staff runs around keeping everyone happy. Parking may be a bit troublesome, just park on the street. They have nigiri and hand rolls with a bunch of options, my fave was the salmon skin, unagi and spicy scallop. The only bad thing for me I would say is when you get seated you have to finish the starter place which included ahi, salmon, hamachi, unagi, snapper(?). I did go with 4 other people so we definitely finished it but as a breastfeeding mom I couldn't have too much of the ahi, hamachi, and snapper (because of mercury content). If you're going in big groups and love sushi it's perfect but if you're going in a smaller group or a pickier group it might be a wall yall can't overcome.
