    Happened upon staff handing out samples on 11/9/24 in the morning. Super friendly people. Family owned. Have been open about a month by Beretania Times Supermarket. Was so excited to be able to get dim sum so early and so close to home. Had very nice conversations with different staff. Owner, Justin explained how menus work. So nice. The dining room is so neat and clean. They should move the takeout utensils containers and napkins away from the door. One lady scooped up a handful of chopsticks without batting an eye, though the owner handed her enough for her order. Upon check in on Yelp!, you will get a 10% discount coupon to use now or save for later. Onto the food...I am disappointed. Ordered 1/2lb roast pork, and deep fried shrimp dim sum. The roast pork had no flavor. Chicken salt would have helped. (Usually served crispy skin chicken.) C- The deep fried shrimp was wrapped in the wrong kind of wrapper. It was so hard, I could not bite through it. Ate the filling part, which, too, had no flavor. D I had such high hopes for this business. I hope they can survive!

    Authentic and tasty Chinese? I am all in- especially when they are not closed between 2-5!!! That means you can enjoy meals during the times when some restaurants are closed! The dishes smelled, looked, and tasted great!

    This restaurant is under new owners/management. The staff there was only two that I saw. I was a bit skeptical at first, but you will not know how the food will and taste the service unless you try, so we did. We were the only ones there but the take-outs were quite steady. We decided to order family style; we got my favorite Cold Ginger Chicken, Minced Meat with Green Beans, and House Noodles. To our surprise the food was good. Their Cold Ginger Chicken- I really enjoyed it. The flavor was on spot. For the Green Beans dish, that was great as well, the house noodles were perfect. They served a lot too. Even though there were only two people in the front house, the gentleman that was taking care of us was kind & friendly. We didn't need to ask for water or tea, he'd come and refill. We would go back again. This restaurant is located in the same parking lot as Times Beretania.

    Perplexed at the reviews for this restaurant. 4 and 5 stars but the review don't match...I know better than to just walk in THEN read but my bad. That said, I was getting my hair cut in the same center and I thought I'd just stop in with my friend and check it out. Entering at 12:30 I expected to see a pretty full restaurant. There were two tables occupied, one with eight people the other with four people. We were seated at a table for four which was not comfortable as the chairs were so tightly pushed together there wasn't a quarter inch between them. The burner in the middle of the table was covered because we weren't going to use it. Asked if we wanted tea we nodded, said yes please and water. Tea was brought but no water. A different server came by later and asked if we wanted water and brought it over. Ok, perusing the menu we ordered the pan fried dumplings, egg rolls, beef brisket soup and my friend wanted the Ma Po Tofu stating she wanted hot and spicy. Food arrived and first those dumplings (?) sure looked like Deep Fried GauGee to me. I asked the waitress who suddenly spoke no English and she nodded saying yes, Pan Fried Dumplings. These were the most tasteless GauGee on the island. Same for the Egg Rolls...which came with Sweet & Sour sauce but inside were pieces of shrimp and mush. My Beef Brisket soup came out piping hot and I could not wait to dig into it but to my dismay the broth and brisket was utterly flavorless. Not even salt. Added soy sauce and chili paste and hot mustard just to give it something. Even the brisket was just boiled meat. I asked my friend how her MaPo Tofu was she said "spicy hot and flavorless" adding several shakes of salt. We asked for our check, refused the offer of takeout boxes and left. The only reason I'm giving three stars is the staff is accommodating but the food is not worth a return visit.

    Dinner in Honolulu, Hawaii... A bunch of friends were curious about this new Chinese restaurant, so we decided to go. Most of us arrived before 5pm and got easy, free parking. Located between Times Supermarket and Epi-ya Bakery, the shared parking lot can get crowded at peak times. Service was very attentive. Water glasses and teapots were filled often. Maybe because we were the only customers at first. Later, it got busier. The waitress suggested the cucumber appetizer. We agreed. When the bill arrived, we saw that it was a $9 item. The waitress also recommended the pork chop. It wasn't the best I've ever had. She also pushed for the cha siu... we almost got it, but we canceled the order because one of us had to leave for a family emergency. [I'm kind of glad we didn't get it because her other suggestions weren't mind-blowing.] The best dish for me was the green beans... even though I finished off the Seafood Noodles. Haha! The sweet sour pork, beef chow funn, and tenderloin beef were ok. I also finished the Dungeness crab with salted egg yolk. Yum! It was a fun experience because of the nicely renovated environment, pleasant air-conditioning, and interesting conversation. I would go again to try the All You Can Eat hotpot option... Let's go! Bonuses: we received complimentary orange wedges for dessert... and the 10% Yelp check-in offer was honored even though it ended on 3.31.24

    Happy Birthday Cony! I do love a happy celebration and this was just that, an evening with friends having a nice warm hot pot along with the gloomy weather we've been having there nothing better and you make it all your own. Nine99 Seafood House located on Beretania next to Times certainly does have seafood though having shellfish allergies like myself found so much to choose from that you don't have that fear of missing out and feeling limited to your selection. We did have a split pot so that we didn't have to share ingredients and are able to make it all our own and with the staff suggestion went with the "Mushroom Broth" and as a mushroom lover it wasn't earthy but a nice lightly flavored broth that went well with all the mushrooms I piled in. You can find all the ingredients in the back of the restaurant where it's all in the display cases where majority are labeled though most of the seafood items weren't which is a mystery grab thank goodness I wasn't part of that and right beside are some toppings like green onions, garlic, chili and some sauces. The meats that does include with the AYCE are beef, pork and lamb...the lamb was extremely gamey which made it very difficult to eat and found that most of us just enjoyed the veggies and noods much more. The staff was very nice and attentive didn't rush us though there was a 90 minute limit we ate until we no longer had room for cake, a lovely place to celebrate any occasion or just have a nice warm soup. Thank you Cony I had a lovely evening and you're just so sweet for all the treats as well. Thank you!

    Last night I decided to check out Nine99 Seafood Restaurant. Located right next door to Epi-Ya bakery and the same parking lot of Beretania Times. This space used to be Eat on Time Chinese restaurant. Nine99 Seafood did a good job of renovating they also serve Hot Pot but few of us decided on family style Chinese. Everything was ok I was really disappointed in the pork chops because it was recommended to us. The service was great they kept on coming by to see if we needed water and hot tea. The only downside to this restaurant what I can see I'm not sure if they're brand new or not to busy during the day but they really want to sell you entrees even though you say No! I would call it upselling for example one of our friend needed to leave early due to an emergency before we ordered. So we wanted to cancel an entree because we already had 9 entrees and the waitress said it's only small portion she still wanted us to order it even though we told her no . Maybe I'll go back and try their hot pot because their a new business and I liked to support local

    I was sad when Eat on Time, the Chinese restaurant located on Beretania St next to Epiya Bakery, abruptly closed. My friends and family wondered what would take over the spot. Lo and behold, Nine99 Seafood House (NSH) became the new tenant since February 2024. NSH boasts AYCE hotpot as well as seafood dishes, along with an array of Cantonese dishes. Earlier tonight a group of my friends gathered tonight for an early dinner to see what NSH is all about. Upon entry, we were impressed with the major renovation that was done, especially the windows were all covered up so that people from the outside cannot see you. Loved the wood furnishings and decor that gave the restaurant a clean and modern look. The tanks of live seafood (dungeness crabs and Maine lobsters) were also impressive. I made it clear that I'm not much of a hotpot eater so I was pleased we all agreed to order family style. I pretty much consulted with my friends on what to order but we were overwhelmed by the overly aggressive nature of the waitress who shot recommendation after recommendation with suggestions. We appreciated the information but it got way out of hand where I did my best to politely decline. Here's a summary of what we sampled: Spicy Cucumber (2/5) This was a cold appetizer that's apparently in the AYCE hotpot buffet where the waitress suggested we try. Apparently the commercialized sweet Thai chili sauce was tossed with crushed cucumbers. Not worth the $9 price tag. Underwhelming. Beef Tenderloin (4/5) Nice chunks of beef stir fried with sliced onions and bell peppers. Beef was tender with the exception of a few pieces that had sinew and not fully cooked so it was challenging to chew. Great wok hei skills by the chef. String Beans with Minced Pork (4.5/5) A classic Cantonese dish that was executed well but perhaps a little heavy with the seasoning. Once again, wok hei was present in tbis dish. Seafood Fried Noodles (4/5) The noodles were executed well with a nice crunchy exterior with tasty gravy. One of my friends is allergic to shrimp so we asked to omit the shrimp. Generous portions but I was turned off by the usage of baby scallops which degraded the dish. Salt and Pepper Pork Chops (2/5) This was also highly suggested by our waitress and it was disappointing and amongst the worst dishes of the evening with the cucumber appetizer. Pork was sliced too thin and the flavor was subtle. Didn't have the five spice present and it was bland. I did enjoy the bits of fried garlic and sliced jalapeños. Beef Chow Funn Dry Style (5/5) The best dish of the evening for me. The chef skillfully tossed the noodles and beef where you could clearly taste the smokiness. Beef was be very tender. Solid dish. Sweet and Sour Pork (4/5) Large chunks of pork were deep fried until very firm and tossed with sautéed veggies in a tangy sauce. It was good but the dish lacked the pork flavor and perhaps too crunchy to my liking. Dungeness Crab with Duck Egg Yolk (5/5) The crab was cooked until perfection. I found this dish flavorful with great crab flavor. The egg yolk sauce was rich and tasty. Kinda had me craving for some white rice. I was blessed with the crab tomalley that gave me a foodgasm at the dinner table. Crab went for $28.95/lb and this was a 2.5lb crab so it cost pretty pennies. Service was above average for a Chinese restaurant. Staff came to check up on us throughout the dinner and refilled our tea pots and water glasses. They even came to exchange our plate during our meal. NSH is a traditional Chinese restaurant as we were offered complimentary orange wedges for dessert. Overall, mixed feelings on this first visit with highs and lows of this dinner. The waitress should tone down the suggestions as it was borderline annoying. NSH is worthy of dragging my family here where I'll get to sample more offerings of their menu.

    Bit into chow funn and was disgusted to bite into dried up hard crunchy chow funn. Inedible!! They mixed FRESH chow funn with OLD leftover chow funn. Noodles left out will dry out and turn hard and crunchy. Someone decided to serve this inedible mess. Maybe to save $$. This was about 1:45 pm so I assume leftover from lunch cuz it ain't fresh. The sweet sour pork was OK but strangely the onions were RAW like they just mixed it in. It wasn't even a little cooked. Portion except for yuck funn was small. Cost was $9.99 one choice + $2 for yuck funn. $12+ tax. I called to complain which I rarely do but the language barrier is too much. I THINK her name was Bonnie?Vani?? First it was no big thing, I tell Chefs. But when I continued and said they should replace the yuck funn then she started to be more apologetic. I was the only customer in there initially. A table of Chinese speaking left as I waited. Then a man came in to order a catering dish of chicken mushrooms. 5 minutes later a young couple came in. Gal couldn't recall my order HALF HOUR before in an empty restaurant. I had to remind her the above, then she gets it. Just disappointed of the handling and quality of food. I mean how fresh is the food they serve there? If they're recycling something so low end as chow funn.

    Three and a half stars again. Came in last night for I was feeling under the weather and ordered a few items. The items came quickly and the service was wonderful. The inside ambiance was clean and empty for a bit then people started to come in, which was great to see! Won ton min, beef chow fun, and 1/2# char siu. Won ton min was nice and hot. The won ton was decent size with a little piece of shrimp. The min was thin and tasty. The only complaint that I have is the broth. It absolutely tasted like just hot water! There was no chicken flavor or any flavor to it. I added a bit of spice and shoyu but it didn't add to what I was looking for The beef chow fun was tasty enjoy hand a good amount. The chat siu was a tad bit of the dryer side but it was still decent. The flavors aren't too strong and if you have salt issues it's perfect for they don't add a lot. The service is a 5 star and the price is a 5 star. The flavor I'm used to needs a bit more of a punch but I will return for it's so conveniently placed. You can get bread at epi-ya, your groceries at Times, and grab dinner or lunch here!! Conveniently great.

    We stopped by here tonight @7:45 pm. My daughter wanted to see if this new restaurant had cake noodles with chicken or beef. I thought it was only serving AYCE hot pot at dinner. There was one table occupied at the time we entered the restaurant. To our surprise, when we were looking at the menu on the door, a man came out to ask us to come inside and look at the menu. He informed us that we could order any item from the menu. Service is 5 out of 5 stars. We asked about the cake noodle and he said only regular noodles. My daughter decided to try the beef chow fun with gravy. I also tasted a few bites the dish. The serving size is good. The noodles were soft. The gravy was one dimensional (aka plain). It did come with a good amount of vegetables (Choi sum, bean sprouts and carrots). 3 out of 5 stars. The restaurant is clean and well decorated. The flowers from its grand opening adorned the walls of the restaurant. Ambiance is 4 out of 5 stars. The entrance to the restaurant could use more lighting at night. There are restrooms located outside of the restaurant, but you will need a key and it's not well lit. You may ask to use the restroom inside the restaurant, but it's not really for the patrons. I like that you can order take out late at night. We will need to try more dishes before we decide on whether to continue our patronage of the restaurant. Check into Yelp for a 10% discount. I found this out after we ordered and paid. It's BYOB for now. We were informed that the restaurant does not have its liquor license currently.

    I'm pleasantly surprised at this new restaurant . It's in the former location of Eat On Time restaurant. The interior was given a complete over hall. The atmosphere was inviting. They have two large round tables for diners who want to order off the Chinese menu. If you are eating the AYCE hot pot, they have ample tables. Our group ordered a number of dishes off the Chinese menu. Overall, the food was good. The sevice was very attentive. It was a great outing with friends. Enjoy

    KSR moved fr its long time location on Kapiolani to Amanu. It was time to hit up this old skool…read morespot for dim sum. We ordered pork hash, manapua, har gow, spring rolls, pickled cucumbers ($12.95) and a platter of char siu & duck. The dim sum was about $8/each, which I thought was very reasonable. My buddy really likes siao mai, and he said KSR has the best ones out of the places I have brought him to in HNL. On the other hand, the manapua was just okay: The ratio of meat to bao was low. I took char siu fr the platter and added it to the bao. We might have been better off skipping the baos and ordering a rice or noodle plate. The har gow and spring rolls were pretty good. The rolls arrived piping hot, and the har gow had a nice texture in the wrapper. Fourthly, the cucumber was fresh & crunchy, and had lots of garlic. I ate some with the char siu to cut thru the fat. Lastly, the char siu & duck platter was very good. They do a good job of putting some char on the bbq pork. The duck was tasty, but there were a couple of bony pieces. Regarding the ambiance, its big in here. Although they don't use carts, the aisles are wide. The servers were friendly & warm. I would def return for dim sum, but I also want to come for dinner. The food is very good, and the prices are reasonable.

    Better late than never, but come too late and missed out on the good stuff?…read more Honolulu Seafood Restaurant is a sister restaurant to Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. Located in Downtown in the same space where Yong Sing, Mandalay, and the short-lived Bourbon Street used to be. Inside feels and looks essentially the same as the prior restaurants. Huge, open, two levels. Would you believe there was once a time where the second floor was an option to sit because it was just that busy? Hours is basically 10am everyday till 3pm, then 5-930pm. Seems like the hours are geared towards Downtown workers. Where to park? 8am-5pm, Monday-Friday, park in the Ali'i Place Parking garage. Entrance is right past the restaurant. Only 75 cents per half hour and restaurant validates one dollar. After 5pm on weekdays, and 8-1am on weekends, park at Bishop Square Parking. Entrance is across from the restaurant, entrance from the left lane of Alakea. Cost is $1.50 with validation. The regular menu is exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant. However, the dim sum is not the case. It's much, much less. There's only 16 total, and 7 more on weekends only. It's essentially the bare basics (but no beef ball!). All the dim sum looks exactly the same as Kapiolani Seafood Restaurant, but everything was on the bland side and just felt like it was missing something. Steamed Spareribs was one note and meat was not as tender. Beef Look Funn was good. The look funn had perfect thinness and texture. If have this dish, how come cannot have steamed beef balls? Chicken Feet was good. Soft, tasty, and meaty. But just ate and felt one note. Pan Fried Shrimp and Chives Dumplings was pretty good. Pan fried very well. Generous amount of filling. Just on the bland side. Chicken Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf was pretty good! Soft, moist mochi rice with a good amount of tasty filling. Overall, the dim sum was decent and almost similar to Kapiolani Seafood, but it was a touch on the bland side and a slight step below. Service was good. Friendly and attentive. Food came out pretty quick. Inside was cool, spacious, and comfortable. I want to come back on my lunch break! I don't mind dim sum'ing solo! Hopefully there'll be more dim sum choices. In total, we had 13 different items, which was served timely and everything was very tasty! Of all that we ordered, my personal favorite was the crispy soy wrapped shrimp patty. The outer crust is a thin soybean layer which had an excellent crunch. Inside, is a generous portion of shrimp patty that is perfect in flavor and texture. But usually within 10 - 15 mins, you can get in (around 1130 in the moorning). I really like the curried beef tendons, spare ribs, and chicken feet. Yum! Just about everything we've ordered is good. I addition to dim sum, they have a pretty varied menu. Noodles, duck, chicken... you name it, they got it! Parking is pretty easy in the chinese cultural plaza structure. Owner Kun Hang Liang and wife Karen Tam immigrated to HI many years ago and have always dreamt of owning their own restaurant, which is now this restaurant. The restaurant's offerings are extensive. With the extensive menu offerings, there are some items that outshine others, which are to be expected. We ordered the following: * Siu mai. Enjoyed the large siu mai, which the dense pork was mixed with mushrooms and water chestnuts (no shrimp). It was tasty and flavorful. * Jin dui. Loved the large thin-crusted coconut/peanut jin dui, just how my mom used to make them! Most restaurants don't "roll" them enough to get that thin crust, but here, they make it right! * Sticky rice in lotus leaf. Chunks of lup cheong and whole salted egg yolks with mochi rice make this a winner! * Char siu look fun. This is one of my favorite dishes; however, it was not prepared well. Generous chunks of hardened and seemingly old char siu filled the look fun, making it difficult to eat and with a lack of tender flavored char siu. Loved that the sweet sauce is served separately in a squeeze bottle so that you can use as much as you want. * Dong Po Pork. This Hangzhou dish is pork belly braised in soy sauce, Shaoxiang wine, and rock sugar until it's tender and melts in your mouth. The pork bell is tied with a string to hold its shape, and staff will use a scissors to remove it. This dish is savory, sweet and has a rich caramelization; served with broccoli to balance the richness of the sauce. Eaten with rice, I really enjoyed this dish! Well plated and executed! Portions are generous, but price point may be contentious, as some dishes appear to be over-priced, like the char siu look fun. We arrived mid-morning on a weekday, and it was not very crowded. Staff was very friendly, attentive, and bilingual, which made communication easy. Service was quick and efficient. No moving carts, as you're given a sheet of listed dim sum to check off the ones you want to order. The large interior is spacious and clean. Its banquet hall can hold a max of 30+ tables for a private party. There are also smaller private rooms. Extensive renovations were made after the previous restaurant closed. Hours of operation are Thurs to Tues 8a to 9p and Wed 8a to 3p. Regular entrees are not prepared until 10a when the cooks arrive for work. Private parking available in back of the restaurant, municipal parking lots are nearby, and metered street parking are available. Extensive delicious menu offerings, generous portions, and efficient and friendly customer service will likely result in return visits to try other items on the menu. What surprised me right off were the prices. I know things are rough for businesses and price hikes are necessary for the bottom line but $5.95/ $7.35 for dim sum? If you want steamed look fun, it'll cost you $10-11. Yikes! Our usual dim sum place is about $1-3 less. But to be fair, the size of the dimsum is huge. The chicken feet we had was sooo plump and the other dim sum looked like overstuffed balls. So okay, maybe the price is fair? Each plate came with 3. The food was tasty too except the chao zhou dumplings with peanut was salty for our taste. Service was okay-the place was hopping so the servers are too busy to check on your tea, order more food, etc. Go up and pay your bill.

We had beef chow fun (thick noodles) and a rice-noodle soup with pork and picked cabbage. Both dishes were very good. The chow fun was smoky, as if cooked on high heat, and the rice noodles were nicely spiced. The rice noodles came in a delicious broth. Parking is tough in Chinatown but there are several pay lots around. Be careful because the private pay lots can get expensive. There's also two municipal pay lots, each about 2 blocks away.
