Wow I grew up on Oahu and can't believe I've never been here before. My friend is obsessed and opted to have her birthday dinner here. It is a rare find--well priced all you can eat sushi that is delicious. The restaurant itself is nothing fancy--plastic tables and folding chairs outside and a key to use the bathroom in the hallway. But I kind of like the no-frills feel. Even though we were sitting outside, we were never forgotten. The staff was super attentive in bringing out our dishes and checking to see when we wanted to order more. You can order 5 items at once and determine how many of each. I.e. if 4 of the 5 people want a salmon roll, you only need to get 4. If one person wants an ume roll, you can just order one. The customization of the AYCE is super nice. Logistically parking in the back was really easy. I am always nervous when parking in town, but it was no issue, QR code to pay. The bathroom was surprisingly clean. Located in Kaka'ako there is a parking lot in the back for you to park. The restaurant itself is pretty small and can probably only fit maybe 20 people on the inside. They do make shift some tables outside the restaurant with pop-up tables. Initially, you have to get the platter that has all the nigiri samplers And they add two pieces each type of nigiri (5 types) per person. So therefore you have to eat 10 pieces of sushi in the beginning that you may or may not want. We did tell the server that one of our guests was allergic to certain fish, but they still brought it out for it. The tasting sampler platter. The salmon is also included in the initial tasting before you can actually start to order on your own. The quality of the fish is mediocre. But for the price you pay for all you can eat it's decent. Such a hidden gem! Tell your friends but don't tell your friends lol. Was looking for somewhere new to try and remembered this spot was recommended. So happy we stopped in! Called ahead and last seating is at 830pm and we were approaching the time but thank goodness we were nearby as last call for the kitchen is at 930pm. GPS had us a little confused and we parked up the steep driveway as pictured in the Yelp photos, that helped us. However didn't know it was $3, no attendant but at your own risk if you choose no to pay. Once inside, aunty let us know and we moved the car closer out front which worked out since it was late at night. But anyway, oh my gosh! I forgot it was all you can eat sushi and I was 100000000 times happier! The sushi comes out so quick too! My favorite would have to be the spicy unagi hand roll (which I didn't expect) and the salmon skin hand roll. The spicy ahi, spicy salmon, and spicy hamachi for me are all automatic picks. But I loved that the spicy unagi and salmon skin was something different. Also tried 4 out of their top 5 nigiri (ahi, hamachi, tai, salmon - didn't try the unagi). They do have other specials but not sure if that was only for lunch, but who needs anything else when there's all you can eat sushi! We've been coming here for the past year, and have been enjoying this place with friends and family - usually in a group of 5-10 people. SERVICE It's a family owned place, so even on different days, you'll most likely see the same staff on board. The owner is super nice and she's very accommodating. When it's not busy, aunty really takes care of us. It's BYOB, so feel free to bring cooler. They give cups & ice if needed, but only upon availability. Depending how busy it is, there can be a wait time. So be patient. Don't expect to get food right away. Enjoy your time there. FOOD Sushi is amazing there. Fresh fish always, and perfect bite sized nigiri. They don't overload the rice, which I appreciate because I don't get full too fast and I can enjoy the fish. They usually bring out a nigiri starter platter while you wait or put in your next order. We appreciate that, because they give amazing choices of nigiri. I saw this place on my commute home almost every day for at least 2 months before I finally asked about it. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but this little hole in the wall restaurant makes some bomb ayce sushi! they only make nigiri and hand rolls but the quality and price are great. once you're seated, the kind auntie will give you a menu to choose 5 options between the nigiri or hand rolls. it's 5 choices per person, but for me and my boyfriend, we just doubled up our orders to make it easier (so we got 2 of the 5 choices each time). you can't order your next set until you finish the one in front of you - this definitely helps reduce waste! there's one uncle solely making nigiri and another uncle solely making hand rolls, so be patient! they're all made fresh to order. I recommend not coming here with a party of more than 4 since they make everything as you order, but if you want to come with a bigger group, they do serve giant party platters with a huge variety. the seating inside is great for small groups and much more intimate, while their outdoor space is good for large parties. even though it's AYCE, the sushi chefs really care about the quality they're serving you, and the ratio of fish to rice is perfect every time. Cost: Unfortunately I came here as a guest and was graciously treated- but it seems reasonable for an AYCE. Environment: Right away, the party I was with was familiar with this establishment and I saw the familiar hellos and greetings which made the environment feel so familiar even though this was my first time here. Service: It did take a bit for us to get our food however we did order mass amounts for a party of about 8. Overall if you're surrounded by good company, there'll be good conversations to keep you occupied as they're making all these lovely sushi pieces to be devoured later. I've never been to Kat's Sushi before but wanted to give it a try. Our server was a nice kid who was working very hard and the staff were also very nice. I'd say that waiting for over 20 mins for 8 pieces of nigiri is a little bit long but they were busy so it was understandable. I think the salmon nigiri was the most disappointing because of how little salmon and how much rice they put... we got full really quickly because of the amount of rice they had in their nigiris. It's actually very smart on their part because we definitely did not eat $35 worth of sushi They have a strict rule of making sure you don't waste food which is completely understandable. However having a ton of rice in a singular nigiri is a bit ridiculous. I'm once again disappointed by Instagram food bloggers because it's clear that they only show the best to food bloggers.... We needed a great place to take our friend out for her birthday and someone recommended Kats. Using the Google reservation feature we were able to secure a table for six at 7pm on a Saturday night. We were told reservations were a must because this place was well known for amazing sushi and an All You Can Eat feature. ($32/ea) Parking was $3 up the ramp and it was a nice sized lot that was well lit and felt safe. There's a small dine in area as well as outdoor tables. As long as it doesn't pour, you're safe outside and it's really nice having sushi under the stars too!! We were lucky because it did rain prior to our arrival time and they were all set drying the area for us and we were seated right on time. I have to say, the service here is amazing. Ashley and the other servers were all fantastic!! It's BYOB so feel free to bring your own drinks. Iced water was provided and never did we have to wait for a refill. Now on to the food!! We all did AYCE and it was well worth it! Chef started us with a starter platter with Unagi, Salmon, Hamachi, Ahi, and Mackerel. I love eel. The Unagi definitely did not disappoint!! All of the fish was fresh and a perfect balance of rice was included with each piece. Chef also sent us out cooked fish from the collar bone. It was so ONO!!! OMG AYCE sushi! What more can I say? My boyfriend and I came here for dinner tonight to celebrate our anniversary. We had such a pleasant experience at Kats Sushi and can't wait to come back! The cost per person is around $30 and in total we ordered 60 pieces--so we got our money's worth. This was our first time at Kats Sushi. I called about a week ahead to make reservations, which I highly recommend. We found street parking right around the corner. We had the option of sitting inside or outside. There's more tables outside but we chose to sit inside where there were a couple of tables and the sushi bar. Since this was our first time, we got the AYCE rundown. We were able to order five different types of fish per round. Each round we could order around 20 pieces of nigiri. Each order of nigiri comes as two pieces and you can freely mix and match. We had three rounds and ordered a plethora of nigiris. My favorite was the Unagi Nigiri and my boyfriend loved the Hamachi Nigiri. From my experience, I thought service was impeccable. We came at 6:00 p.m. where we were seated immediately and our order was taken. Our waitress was friendly and provided us with hot tea and water. You can't go wrong with AYCE Sushi! Kats is a small business that pushes out a lot when they're open. You are only allowed to order so much per round and everything must be eaten before ordering the next. It's 2 pieces nigiri per person and 1 handroll per person. For example, if you are a party of 3 and you order salmon, hamachi, ahi and unagi, the plate will have 24 pieces. Same with the handrolls; if you order spicy tuna, California and spicy unagi, the plate will have 9 handrolls. The best in my opinion was the salmon, very fresh! Hamachi was very good as well. The spicy tuna was spicy but not too spicy. Scallop handroll was a little too salty and the scallops did get lost with the amount of tobiko it was mixed with. The rice was seasoned very well I must say! In the restaurant there's only a few tables and a few seating at the counter, and can get loud quick. There's seating outside but only 1 section is under covering so if it's raining, you'll be pushed against the building. Overall, it's a good place. I saw a few reviews on here talking about how the sushi isn't the best quality. I can't necessarily speak to that as I'm no expert on sushi or seafood, but I will say that given the fact that this an AYCE sushi joint (and the only one I know of on the island) and only $30, it's definitely worth a visit. The parking is located on Cooke St (take a right off of S King St) and is $2. The ramp going up is a bit steep, so just something to be aware of if you have a low car. Once we got seated the woman who helped us (I believe she was the owner) was extremely friendly. We told her it was our first time here and she got us a platter of different nigiri so we could try them out. Throughout the whole night, she was very attentive and pleasant. In my opinion, the sushi was pretty good. The only improvement I would make, if any, is to put less rice on the nigiri as they were a bit packed with rice. But other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner and loved that we could keep ordering more for only $30. We've been here before but I don't remember being as dissatisfied as I was this time. We didn't have a reservation but we got there before they opened and they were able to give us a table outside ( 1 star ). The server explained how the ordering was so we ordered our first round which was salmon nigiri, salmon skin hand roll and a spicy salmon hand roll. Not the best quality but for the price definitely worth it. I like the rolls. Even though we were outside they were always coming to check on us ( 1 star ). The next round was ahi nigiri... I wish I took a picture because it didn't look good at all and the rice was hard. It was not good at all. So we ordered a few more hand rolls and another order of salmon nigiri. The total for the 2 of us was less than $80 which to me is a good deal for what we got ( 1 star ). Oh half a star because it's BYOB. I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

This is an all you can eat sushi restaurant. I wanted to say that first because when I went I didn't know. Trust me, you don't want to pull up to Kats having already eaten two slices of pizza like I did, huge mistake. Come hungry! A hidden gem! It was our first time going and definitely not our last! First off, gotta make reservations for all you can eat sushi at dinner time. They say walk ins welcome but during our dinner we saw two pairs of people leave because there was no space for them as they were fully booked. I'd make reservations and save the heartache lol. There's parking around the back of the building, you just put $2 in the slot that corresponds with your stall number. The sushi!!!!!! It's extremely fresh fish. The unagi was very fresh too. I was dancing inside when I saw that ikura was served during AYCE. It's one of my favorites! The hand rolls were great, they didn't overdo the rice wen it came to the nigiri or hand rolls. It was a perfect ratio! Our sweet waitress suggested the spicy unagi hand roll and it didn't disappoint! You really can't go wrong with anything here, it's delicious. I called to see if there was stuff we could order on the side for our babies since they are only into bbq chicken type things or shrimp tempura, but the person who took our reservation said they only serve things like that at lunch. The cool thing was that they said we would be able to bring our own food for the kiddos as well as BYOB! We made a honeydew melon soju and a strawberry one. Ended up bringing meat and fruit for the kids and purchased side rice. This place is awesome!! read more

Talk about hole in the wall! My husband and I were in the area, searching for a last minute date night spot. When Kats popped up, I got so excited! I've heard about Kats before, but it was never a convenient option (since I live on the west side). Location- When I say hole in the wall, I mean it lol. It's on the corner of S King Street and Cooke Street. Beware that S King is one way, so don't go down Cooke Street, unless you plan on utilizing the building's parking structure for $2. We found street parking on S King since it's free after 6:30pm. The restaurant itself is small on the inside, but they do offer outdoor seating as well. Luckily, we called ahead and got to reserve 2 seats right at the sushi bar. Service- Great service! Their waiters were all very kind. Our waiter in particular did an excellent job at explaining how the ordering goes since it was our first time there. Special shout out to CHEF that was putting together the nigiri's. I know they only serve nigiri's and hand rolls, so it was really nice of him to provide a special treat of their salmon skin. Because we sat at the sushi bar, we got to chit-chat with him for a bit. He shared he's been working there for over 50 years! Food- We were blown away by how fresh everything was. Everything tasted so ono. We didn't not like anything, but there definitely were a few we like more than others- especially when it came down to the hand rolls. My favorite hand rolls were the spicy salmon, ahi, and hamachi. All the nigiri were spot on. We tried hamachi, ahi, salmon, unagi. We pretty much kept rotating the same fish every round of ordering. I appreciated the limit on ordering so that we could pace ourselves while eating. HOW TO ORDER: you have a limit of ordering 5 things at a time (2 nigiri's, 3 hand rolls; 4 hand rolls 1 nigiri; it's up to you how you want to split that). It's all made to order, so patience is required for dining here lol. You can place another "round" of 5 once you eat all of your previous order. Note* make sure you eat all the rice too! Lol. Three and a half stars. Haven't been here in ages and am still happy that they survived Covid times. Of course lunchtime it's not busy and dinner they say picks up. Owners are nice and friendly and since it's a family run business I enjoyed coming here lots when I was younger and with less bills! Of course the price of everything has gone up so the prices have too to reflect the times. However the portions are the same and the smiles are always friendly. I came with a couple of coworkers and we ordered lunch specials because someone bought out all the bentos. They make 6 large bentos and 6 small bentos daily and you can call ahead to buy them out. Well, that's kind of a bummer. We decided that since we could eat there we ordered and ate indoors. There is one table to sit on but we were happy to get that. The inside is the same. The food came quite quickly and we were hungry so we gobbled up a bit. I had 6 piece shrimp tempura, someone else got chicken with mushroom gravy and the third person for teriyaki style meat in a sandwich. I have to say that the only complaint I had was that the food all tasted a bit too sweet. I don't recall this but I have been not eating out so I'm sure my tastebuds are reflective on that. My shrimp tempura was crunchy with a tad bit too much batter but when you're hungry you eat. I enjoyed the company and eating out so thank you! To each their own! This was my friends idea and i'm so glad we came here! She called to make reservations and we were able to get outside seating for 4 people right when we got there. Although it was busy, the servers especially auntie donna gave us the best service! She made sure we were satisfied and kept checking on us which I truly appreciate! I LOVED the unagi! One of my favorites. Everything we ordered were so tasty and definitely worth the $30+ for an eat all you can, also you can BYOB. On top of that, the chef gave us a complimentary salmon! Thank you! Service was nice to accommodate 17+ people. Reservations was made 3 days prior. We were seated outside on picnic tables. What a first experience as we received a platter of nagiris on a food tray and the chef gave a complimentary dish, fish Kama! I was just excited about the other dishes I was able to order for $30 sushi buffet. Rules is that we eat everything and when ordering must order in batches since it was a big party. I do not like the rolls. The seaweed was very tough and unsalted. It was hard to bite with filling. I loved the unagi, ahi, snapper and hamachi! Will definitely go back again. If you've got a big appetite and love sushi then you gotta check out kats sushi on King street ! This little hole in the wall place is serving up some of the most tasty made to order all you can eat nigiri and hand rolls in the area! Reservations are a must because space is limited here, but you really can't go wrong here. Don't expect Michelin star quality of sushi, but rather what you could expect for an all you can eat sushi restaurant. Remember that everything is made to order so please be patient because it may take some time to get your food, but you are able to order 5 choices at a time where each person will get either 2 pieces of nigiri per choice or 1 hand roll per person per choice.
