Small and cute little sushi shop that sells more than sushi! They have meat on stick as well as ramen and other things. They have a huge selection of sushi for everyone's liking. It's a small store between L&L and the nail salon and hairdresser. They use delicious Japanese rice from a Japan and they make great tasting sushi! They also are at Makiki Farmer's market sometimes. The owner is kind and cheerful. There are counters where one can sit and eat. I believe there are 5 chairs all together. They have a screen showing foods from around the world if you solo dine and don't want to be on your phone. They also offer dessert ice cream and soft drinks and iced matcha. Sushi Man is located on Wilder Avenue out in Makiki. I have been here a few times. I had cravings for sushi on the days I came to the food establishment. Push the door open to enter the food joint. There's a display case on the left hand side with different types of fake sushi. There are seven chairs in the establishment. There's a little handwritten sign saying the chairs are up for sale at $7.00 each. Counter seating for individuals who want to dine in. Next to the display case is the refrigerator filled with package beverages. There is a chair for staff only and it is next to a table and counter. There is a menu board on one of the tables, another table had a display of fake sushi, and another table had DVD's or video games up for sale. My cravings consist of inari sushi, tekka maki sushi, tuna, salmon, scrambled egg, squid, shrimp, daikon maki, and cucumber maki. I can't forget the sesame balls. Credit cards are accepted here with a minimum of $10. Twice I paid with cash and my sister paid once with her credit card. I took notice of a sign near the register saying "Bring Your Own Bag" otherwise the employees will ask "Do you need a bag today?". Today we ordered the Dynamite, Spicy Ahi, and the Dragon roll. The Dynamite was nice with a little crunch. The spicy ahi has a good kick, can't go wrong. The dragon roll seaweed was a little chewy. There is free parking in the shopping center lot. ADA accessible path, though the door might be hard to get through. Inside they have seating, but it is kind of dirty and there are homeless in the vicinity so I don't feel comfortable staying long. Staff is very kind and easy to communicate with. This is a one and done experience for me. I ordered a specialty roll via Uber Eats for pickup. Upon ordering I received a note that the food would be ready in 30 minutes. A bit long but not excessively so and I was prepared to wait. A few minutes after that I get an updated finish time notice, which pushes things out to a full hour. This was too long to wait for a sushi roll, so I attempted to cancel on the app but was informed that I could no longer do so without paying a full price cancellation fee as the restaurant had already started preparing my order (color me dubious as it doesn't take an hour to prepare a roll). I then tried calling the restaurant multiple times with the hope of being able to cancel that way; of course, nobody answered. I then proceed to travel to the restaurant to try to confirm the time it'll take to prepare my food. When I get there I'm told that I'll need to wait another 20-30 minutes; I didn't want to but I had already waited long enough so said I'd wait a little longer. All in all it took 40+ minutes to prepare a roll when I was one of the only people in the store. To be fair, they could have had numerous phone orders, but it also looked like there was only one person back there making the sushi. Looking at other reviews since I ordered, time seems to be a regular theme at this place. On to the food. It was decent but nothing that blew me away. Sushi Man in Makiki used to be a humble gem back when the original owners actually cared whether their sushi looked and tasted like food. Now it is a sad sloppy shadow of its former self run by new owners who seem to view the place as a burden rather than a restaurant. The dining area looks like it is being actively reclaimed by nature with filthy floors, peeling walls, and an overall vibe of "we gave up." There is no sense of "omotenashi," the Japanese spirit of genuine hospitality and care. The staff look visibly unhappy, never greet customers, and make you feel like an inconvenience for even walking in. As for the sushi, forget the photos on the menu because what lands on your plate now feels like a distant rumor of what used to be. The dynamite maki, once the undisputed champion with its perfect crown of green onions, now arrives looking naked and defeated, and when I asked for the green onions back I was met with a blank stare and a "we do not have any." To add insult to injury they now charge extra for a single packet of soy sauce as if that will somehow mask the mediocrity. A tragic downfall for what used to be one of Makiki's best casual sushi spots. read more

Located behind pandas along the marina is Sushi Man. It's a small yet clean, sunny sushi place. No seats for eating in side but there is outdoor seating throughout the shopping center. Sushi is always fresh and tasty. I also love the bentos and udon. The udon broth is so tasty, can't wait to go back. In fact I think I'll go there for lunch today! Service is terrific. Remember staff is busy, but they do a wonderful job getting you order together. Fast and friendly and they get your order right. read more

Good sushi and reasonable price! If you looking for fancy and top notch sushi, then of course not this place. But if just to satisfy craving, this place does the work. We did a lunch takeout and opt for platter D (comes in California roll, tempura and spicy ahi tempura roll), seared salmon and spicy tuna inari. The spicy tuna is not big piece chunk, but rather small pieces, so the quality is not the greatest. Plus for their roll, they use imitation crab. But cannot complain much because price is about $60 for the platter, and can feeds 4-5 people. I usually order the Spicey Ahi bowl and I noticed on a few occasions the cubed ahi had more fat than usual "it's a chewy white stuff that is not to edible" but I didn't say anything until today. I ordered as usual and asked the lady about if it's normal to have so much fat on the fish cause it had on a few prior occasions, she went to the back to talk with owner and then came back out to cancel my order I asked why and all she said is the boss said to cancel it. I asked her to have him come out so I can talk to him and he came out all quietly and just kept telling them to cancel it so I asked him why??? and he said cause I complained. Owner is very unprofessional and they over charge for the smallest things, the establishment is super hot inside and wait time for orders can tend to be long as in over 30 min at times. I don't suggest anyone dine here but if you do, make sure not to ask questions cause he may just cancel your order and give you the boot. Very disgusted on how I was treated.
