We just came in for shaved ice. The man at the counter wasn't really friendly, it was like us walking in was an inconvenience. If is wasn't so hot outside I would have left. He took my order then walked in the back to have someone else make the shaved ice and she kept on yelling it's a size medium right. I told her yes we ordered a medium, she followed with Im asking him if it's a medium. Well alright then, I would show you one but he didn't offer one. Used to go here weekly due to the affordability, not because of good sushi. Ordered on the phone one night, was told I could pay cash after they asked for me to pay via card, and the lady who answered the phone checked with the owner and said it was okay to pay cash when we came. We showed up, they said "no phone orders" were there, and turned us away. We went to double check that we called the right store, we did, and when I returned, the owner didn't even want to listen to me. Didn't have the decency to call me and tell me he didn't take the order even though his employee told me it was okay to pay cash. I waited 45 minutes for a dinner that wasn't even being made. He had no issue with anything he did, and was extremely rude and disrespectful to a recurring customer. Will never go there again. Highly recommend not going there either due to the TERRIBLE service and disregard from the owner here! Also much better sushi and just as affordable at Honolulu Sushi down the street! read more

The quality of the sushi and udon is better than just ok, but at least 3 out of 5 times if you call in an order, it gets lost. Their attitude is like, "oh well. sorry. we can put it for you now, but you have wait 30 min." If you are in a rush, go somewhere else. Even if you are lucky enough to have your call-in order placed, the counter person can only do one thing at a time -- if there is someone ahead of you, she will take their order and then take it to the back, and you wait 15 min for her to come back out at which time she is bringing out someone else order. You are not acknowledged, even to say, "Sorry, I'll be with you shortly." Basically, if your pickup is at 6pm, you will actually pick up around 6:20 pm. To be fair it's basically a one-man shop, with a front desk cashier who cannot multitask or maybe just gets too flustered with all the orders. You'll find the usual variety of takeout sushi here, from handrolls to nigiri, udon to donburi (rice bowls). There's a small dining area that will seat small groups. For anyone craving something sweet and cold, there's shaved ice in all the fruity flavors one would expect. One of the platters I like to get for a potluck is the Family Platter. At $18.99 for 30 pieces, it offers a good variety of nigiri and sushi rolls (tekka, cucumber and shinko). I suggest ordering at least an hour or two in advance. My usual routine is to go there in person to place and pay for my order with a later pick up time. However, yesterday I received an unexpected dinner invite and it was Sushi Man to the rescue! I walked in, asked how long a California Maki/Inari platter would take to prepare and the owner said 15-20 minutes. Good timing it was! I walked around the block to kill time and when I arrived back, the platter was done. Saved by sushi! There's a private lot here in the Makiki Shopping Village, and during non-peak hours it's pretty easy to find a spot. Note: like me, you may sometimes a slight language barrier with the employees, who are often young females. I was charged for uber eats pick up for an order here. Time it will be ready said for a little bit over an hour. It does not take an hour to have food ready. Even restaurants don't take that long! There were literally 3-4 people working, so it made me a bit disappointed. I'm not about making reviews that are negative but the reason why because the store think they are sly to accept the charge. I contacted Uber eats & they've mentioned "the store had already prepared making the order so you were charged full price" uh ok then why does it take one hour to make the food for such a small order? I would understand phone orders or orders before me but phone doesn't seem like it rings too much. Nobody was in the front to greet the customers or take order too! So that upset me. There were 2 people waiting also (not sure how long they're waiting). Customer service was not a good look. There should always be someone in the front, greet your customers, etc. Be mindful. Customers come to you for service (not take our money without being fair!). Anyways, great food to choose from but service lacks. If store is reading this review, no hate whatsoever. However, please be mindful. Don't take people's money for granted. I'm pretty sure y'all did not start making the order especially the lady I spoke with, had no idea there was my order. I had to show her the receipt and order number from Uber eats. So please be honest. Customers come to you for service. We expect honesty and just friendly communication. I used to like this place. Several months ago everything I ordered was really good: sushi, ahi don, and various rolls. Tonight the food was just bad: pieces of fresh fish mixed with old fish. Spicy tuna sauce was really tasteless just siraca and some mayo. Two piece of cucumber thrown in. ONE STAR, zero stars if I could. Went to support sushi man during quarantine to support local biz. Ordered my food and needed extra chopsticks to share with my family. They said $0.10 for each extra pair of chopstick. I only had my credit card which they REFUSED TO TAKE, so they sent me on my way without the extra chopstick. The place was completely empty. We were ordering food from Peppa's next door and decided to get some sushi. I walked in and there was a sign at the counter which said to ring the bell...."only once". I thought oh, that's a little strict. Ordered the food and presented them with my money. The counter lady said she couldn't accept my cash (through hand gestures) pointing to something on the bill. She didn't speak English so a man came from the back. He didn't speak English either and made the same signal. I went back to Peppa's to order more food since I didn't buy the sushi. Sushi man is good if you're looking for a quick sushi fix but you don't want to go to a restaurant for it. It will satisfy your craving for donburi/rolls/hand rolls. I ordered a spicy ahi don and a red dragon hand roll. The spicy ahi don was a bit expensive ($10). I felt that this was a bit on the pricey side, especially since the serving itself isn't super big. The spicy ahi here is chunky so if you like your spicy ahi smashed up, you should check sushi co. It was also more spicy than mayo, which I liked but if you can't handle spicy, you might not like it as much. The red dragon hand roll is a cali roll with spicy ahi and for $2.49 I'd say I would have preferred to order a few of these instead. They keep the place clean and the food is decent. Overpriced sushi, bowls, and other items. Usually high school girl takes my order and I've gone to this establishment 3 times to give them a chance. Not a great environment. Each time, they either get my order wrong or they forgot to put in my order and the girl apologizes, but when you make other people's order after a customer orders by waiting 5 more minutes, you should give complimentary drink, sushi, or something especially when someone came in more than once and you have messed up the order 3 straight times. I rather get sushi from other organizations that have better quality, customer service. I saw the girl on her cell phone in the kitchen area and I was still waiting for my food. The two Samoan like girls also screwed up my order and they didn't apologize a couple months ago. It seems like the high school girl father is making the sushi in the back. An oriental lady ordered 3 people after me and her order was ready as soon as she paid so this organization teaches some loyalty, but favoritism to people they know. Was brought to this small sushi joint by someone who has been coming here for 15 years. Was treated with so much disrespect for bringing in a bag of 2 drinks that we got at another store. I get the whole "no outside food or drink" thing but we didn't open what we previously bought and was given extremely horrible attitude even when we explained we weren't staying or opening it. He threw our bag of food on the table and told us to basically get out. Then when we saw we only had one package of soy sauce which everyone knows is never enough, so we went back to pay for more and he wouldn't even come out from the back to speak to us, even when we offered to pay for it. The sushi here is not the best but still passable, however the way they block numbers and refuse to answer your calls is infuriating. Some back story, I believe I ordered take out via phone before work but because they took 50+ minutes I had to cancel my order and go to my shift. After that I realized they had blocked me so I couldn't ever order from them again. Even after I've come in purchased something (and waited extremely long) and asked them to unblock they still refuse. I started having to *67 them to call in my orders I also do so in advance so I can pick up my food before I go to work, but even when calling an hour in advance your order is still not done when you get there! As a matter of fact they haven't even started on your actual order until YOU GET TO THE RESTAURANT!! It was Thanksgiving day and we were on the hunt for some lunch! I had a weird craving for sushi and thankfully Sushi Man was one of the few places open on our national day of over consumption. We ordered an Aloha platter because we figured 43 pieces of sushi for $23 was a fairly sweet deal. The platter came out quickly, under 10 minutes and the sushi was gone in even less time than that! The only odd part of my experience was when the guy at the counter asked me if this was my platter. I looked at him, then at the platter and then at the empty room full of no one and asked him "Did anyone else order a giant platter of sushi in the last 10 minutes?" Do not come here. This Sushi Man sucks, which is sad because I love sushi and this place is literally down the road from my house. First off, the food is just ok, nothing special. The donburi is way overpriced and they only fill the bowl half way and the nori for the handrolls is always soggy. They also charge for wasabi and ginger. Seriously? Who does that? Be sure to check your take-out bag for the wasabi and ginger though. They forgot to give me mine's a couple of times even though I paid for it. Worst of all is the customer service. You'd think businesses would be nice to regular customers; well not this business. The service actually got worse each time I came in and I'm probably one of the most low maintenance customers. The last straw was over a stupid icee of all things. I ordered a strawberry & coke mixed icee, but I only got a strawberry icee (no coke). I politely told the worker that I ordered a mix of both flavors. Instead of fixing the mistake, she argues with me saying that I didn't ask for mIx. Seriously?!
