A great neighborhood diner. Friendly staff and food that is tasty. Breakfast is affordable & abundant. The French onion soup tasty & the burgers here are tasty and large. Never disappointed when eating here. They have their own parking lot on the side. At times it does get crowded, but wait if any is minimal. My favorite diner in Northern NJ. Something about their breakfast, it's so good! I love their strawberry pancakes! I had steak n eggs the other day and the steak they give you is huge and cooked well. I haven't had anything bad here yet. The service is always good and parking's always plentiful. My fiance and I frequent this diner ALOT! Breakfast, lunch and dinner. We have always had a good time and good food. The woman working the door 3/7/14 was very rude and off putting. She did not make me feel welcome but rather uncomfortable. The older gentlemen who is usually at the front counter (i am not sure if he is the owner or manager) is always so nice and sweet so this was a total 180 from what we are used to. Can't get any better than this 24/7 place at the edge of downtown Nutley. I used to be walking distance from here and a bunch of us got a breakfast of champions before going to one of those electronic dance ragers. Needless to say, that meal (and... other things) kept us going till midnight. I had the eggs florentine benedict and it was hard to decide whether that was better or the side of home fries. I've also tried some of the burgers. Prices are amazing, staff happy, plenty of room and parking. Don't get lost in the 10+ page menu. read more

This is the place my friends and I will settle on when all we want to do is eat greasy, salty foods...usually when it's well past the time you should be eating. Their menu is typical in diner fashion, but the one food my friends rave about are the Disco Fries. I'll admit, I haven't been brave enough to try the gooey concoction of fries, cheese and gravy because I'm a firm supporter of the sacred marriage between french fries and ketchup, but I've been assured that it's incredible. The one aspect of this place that makes me initially decline going is the service. The majority of the times I go, I feel wholly unwelcome by the staff. I can understand how large groups will make a server uncomfortable, but I've gone with groups of three or four and still get the same treatment. The food here was okay but not amazing. The menu is large with a lot of choices. Portions are really large - we came for dinner and were given bread, soup/salad with an entree, as well as an extra side dish for the table (that day, it was beets). I had a chocolate milkshake and the Shrimp Parmesan. The shrimp was good but the mozzarella cheese had formed into thick congealed blobs which I really don't like. I had enough left over for the next night's dinner. I should note that I got a marzipan horn pastry for the following morning's breakfast and while it was good, it was VERY sticky and the plastic wrap was hard to separate from the pastry. read more

I can't believe I'm giving a Diner 4 stars, but I am. The place is very clean and was remodeled not too long ago. Coffee is a staple of diners and it the Nutley Diner coffee is good. For breakfast, everything comes with good portions and delicious sides (Coffee and Juice included!). For dinner, I have only tried the Moussaka and lasagna. Both were excellent. Whether you're stopping in after the bar or crawling in the next morning, the Nutley Diner is a reliable choice. read more

I ordered the Florentine omelette today. It was supposed to contain spinach and feta. I only found one or two pieces of crumbled feta. But my real problem was that the spinach used in the omelette was obviously prepared for some other purpose. It was loaded with garlic. So garlic-y. It has been four hours since I ate this omelette, I've brushed my teeth, and my breath still tastes like garlic. Really weird breakfast. Service was good. read more

Service was great. Our waitress was very attentive and sweet. She my brought my son his jello just as he requested: with whipped cream and two cherries. The bus person even came over and was making animal noises to mess with the kids. The food is mediocre at best. My daughter's mac and cheese was flavorless and extremely paste-like. Her crab cakes were good, but not necessarily because they were packed full of crab. My lobster bisque tasted of low tide and was filled with lame imitation crab meat. They served a nice little complementary bean salad with the salad/soup that I ate once I pawned off my bisque to my son (kids eat anything). My Cape May salad (with shrimp, bacon, and blue cheese) was pretty good. My husband's beefsteak was okay, but bizarrely coated in barbecue sauce. Overall, for a Jersey diner...I was not impressed. I stopped in during lunch hour and had breakfast. The diner was pretty busy. They had a very nice variety of pancakes and French Toast which I haven't seen much of at other diners. I had the Blueberry pancakes with a side of Turkey Sausage. My co-worker had two eggs over easy, hash browns, and sausage. My meal consisted of 3 very large pancakes filled with blueberries inside and outside. Honestly, the pancakes were kind of rubbery but edible. I'm a maple syrup snob and don't like the thick, sugary, Aunt Jemima type syrup. That's exactly what I had. My belief is the diners should offer the real maple syrup and just charge extra. The sausage consisted of two small links. 3 or 4 links would've been nicer. As a coffee snob, I would say the coffee was good. My co-worker enjoyed his meal. Overall, I was satisfied with my experience. The service was very good and friendly. Plenty of parking available. read more

Was there ten minutes ago. Ordered a side of Taylor ham. They brought out canadian bacon. When I brought it to the waitresses attention she said "yeah our Taylor ham is just like that." Weird because we go there all of the time. Out of 5 pieces given, I ate a bite of one. So maybe the cook grabbed the wrong meat. But atleast make good and take it off the bill......or bring actual Taylor ham... Also their home fries are mush. But they make for good mashed potatoes. read more

Love the diner, however, the sign clearly states that it's a 24 hour diner, however when I went to the diner at 2AM, I was told by the manager that they were closed even though there was staff inside. Today I decided to go to the Nutley Diner for lunch, HUGE MISTAKE. I want to point out I'm a paying customer and I was extremely poliet to all the workers. The food was less then decent but I ate it anyways although it's extremely over priced. In addition, the Pepsi I bought was 3 dollars I understand inflation is a thing but that is completely insane. Now for the real issue, Today I was paying at the front desk and I was waiting for my friends. The man working, with a very disrespectful tone in his voice says "If your done you can move." So I apologize and he says, "I don't think you're sorry I think you're a wise ass." A grown man said that to me a 15 year old girl. I was so disgusted by this because I was being nothing but respectful. Do not give the Nutley Diner your money because chances are, they have probably spit in your child face and called them names. read more

I really like this place. It's my go to place for a nice melted mozz filled French onion soup, jalapeño cheddar poppers, and their disco fires. The only reason they lose a star with me is because their French onion is sometimes great and sometimes not. They're not always consistently melty and hot. I've gotten one before that was lukewarm and the cheese was not melted at all. The staff is always very friendly and the food is always great! I always order their butter pecan milkshake, it's so bomb. Another one of my favorites is their fish & chips. And if you like breakfast for dinner like me be sure to try their fresh banana nut pancakes, they're amazing fluffy goodness. read more

I was not impressed. I wanted to like Nutley Diner so bad. I had the Open faced turkey sandwich. There was no flavor in the gravy, there was a lot of turkey, but it was dry. The bread was also dry. The mashed potatoes had no flavor. The worst was the broccoli that they served. It was two huge trees of broccoli that was impossible to cut and was steamed badly. What a disappointment. I didn't have dessert, but they did look redeeming. I am not saying don't give it a try, but I would order on the safe side. There are better diners in the area. I've lived in Belleville for about 3 years now. I've always gone to the north Arlington diner but i started to go to the Nutley Diner because my sister is closer to their. Their food has always been mediocre especially their mashed potatoes. I brought some home for my 8month old and even he spit it out. But my issue with this diner is not the food as much as it is the management. I've seen the manager Mohammed bring employees into the back and scold them. I also heard him tell a young waitress to hang herself with a customers scarf. They treat their employees like garbage because they know they need their jobs. They do not allow their employees to sit down either, some of these women are old and have been waitressing for years, to not allow them to sit for 5 minutes is heartless. I will never eat or support this establishment ever again. read more

My fiancé and I live down the street and happened upon the diner. We love it so much! We've never had a bad meal! And the portions are huge. Totally worth the price. This past week we went and had Carol as our waitress and she was so attentive and one of the best waitresses I've had. I love that we have such a good diner so close to us. Dear Stelios, I am the "gentleman who dined with" John L. in late July of 2018. We were having a pre-movie meal and looking forward to seeing Mission: Impossible--Fallout at the nearby Clifton Commons Cinema (you will find my memory of the events is good, much better than yours). I am writing this review because I cannot respond to your online assault of John L. directly. Here are the actual facts. Yes, the drink took 20 minutes to arrive, and yes, it was the wrong drink. John first talked to the server--BEFORE we had even gotten our meal (not "only when it was time to pay the bill")--who got flustered and didn't seem to know what to do. Later, she brought someone else who claimed to be management to the table to discuss the problems with the service and the meal. This person did offer to comp us some desserts, but we are not dessert people, and we were going to be late to the movie if we ordered anything else. This "manager" then became hostile, unhelpful, and dismissive, all uniquely unsuited for someone in the service/hospitality industry, whereupon he and the server left. We finished up, used the restroom, and I waited at the table while John went to the cashier; I wasn't quite sure what was taking so long, so by the time I got to the checkout area, all I saw was you shouting at John, and John brushing by me to leave. I followed him out, whereupon he turned to me, handed me a twenty, and told me to give it to the server because he felt terrible and had not meant to upset her (apparently she ran off to the bathroom while you two were arguing at the register, and you wouldn't let him apologise to her). He then told me he felt too awful to go the movie, and I would have to go alone if at all. I did NOT say "he does this every where [sic] we go", I told the server John had asked me to give her the 20 and his profuse apologies, and that I didn't know what went down, as this had never happened before. Trust me, you needn't "order" us to never come back, it will be our pleasure to no more dine there forever.... read more

The BEST cheeseburger I've EVER HAD!!! I went there once with my mom and the cheeseburger was was absolutely delicious! I thought it had to be a fluke, so I went by myself about 2 weeks later. My server was Justin, he was as attentive and kind! No wait, food served promptly and again to my pleasant surprise, it was NOT a fluke! The cheeseburger (medium rare) and french fries (well done), were again cooked to perfection! I will be back often and I now have a new restaurant that makes me CRAVE their food! read more

I gave the stainer about three chances to make my heart content but it failed every single time the Nutley diner it's self has OK parking and the staff is so nice but their matzoh ball soup has way too much celery and onions and I just can't deal with that I like it very simple and I've been able to order a couple of things here and there when I've been there but I've always kind of been disappointed in the food So I take the drive out to Clifton over to the tick-tock diner instead I just feel like there's something off about it I don't know if there are two onion happy or what and I feel like the refrigerated pastries and cakes that I've ordered have just been very bland or in the refrigerator too long I was really hoping that this would be good for us since it's open 24 hours and there's always Nutley police officer sitting there which I think is nice sometimes parking really is limited but it depends on when you go in they do have some specials at night but I'm just not crazy about the food but the people they really are nice read more

This is your typical New Jersey Diner. Seems petty popular with the locals and seniors in the area. They make decent steak sandwich. Chicken Franchise was pretty good as well. The service was pretty on point and the guy at the front counter was friendly. They don't sell alcohol, but they do have private parking which is always a plus. read more

Overall this place is basic. It has the good ole diner atmosphere that makes it feel "homey". The food is mediocre. My boyfriend usually orders the southwest burger with chipotle mayo and he absolutely loves it. I have yet to find my "go-to" so when we go I order something different but unfortunately nothing has come across as "this shit is bomb". I only go here when I'm with my boyfriend's family.
