Nice local spot if you want a simple burger or sandwich. I ordered the Turkey Burger and the Jim Dandy Fries. Turkey Burger was really simple and was missing sauce in my opinion. Stay away!! This place is actually horrible...this bar is right near my apartment so my husband and I decided to walk there and get dinner and drinks. My husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwhich, but what he received was a DISGRACE-it was a literal piece of chicken in a bun that someone clearly sat on (refer to pictures). Avoid if you have taste buds and don't want to feel cheated by overpriced-cafeteria food. Went for a quick, affordable lunch because we had to be in the area...thought it looked like it may have some simple, but well-prepared food, but it was pretty bad and not affordable. The sliders (which literally come with nothing), a can of soda and a side of onion rings cost just under 27 bucks. The regular burger sliders were made without love. The "philly cheesesteak" ones were outrageously skimpy (one slice of meat) and burnt! My companion got fries and coleslaw for an upcharge with their burger (which they said was fine), but the fries were boring. Tipped a total of 7 bucks together for simply taking an order and bagging and they still didn't remember to put a fork and ketchup in the bag. Why do places' like Jack's Diner is Westwood where everything was perfection close, and places like this one stay open? PLEASE READ This is partially a negative review for Uber Eats BUT mainly the manager who I tried speaking with at the Nutley Jim Dandy's. NO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ALL We ordered plenty of food tonight -- 2 of the items were the pierogies -- which we love from there. On Uber Eats it has 2 price options for ordering pierogies -- 3 for $4 flat and another option incorrectly labeled as a 3 piece but had a marker indicating + $2.95. We have ordered from them many times before and know they have the 3pc and a 6pc so we expected for $6.95 to get the 6 piece. I called and spoke to the manager (according to him -- should have gotten a name!). I explained the situation to him in detail and his response was "it's more expensive since you ordered it with Uber Eats" this is not true the service fees are not included in the price of the food.!! AND "our kitchen is closed already" -- i let him know that I live in town and asked if he could make it right for us on a future order and he did not agree to this. He completely blamed Uber and told me to call them rather than making it right for the customer. Customer service should be taught to a manager in my opinion. Still love their food though. read more

I was extremely disappointed in Jim Dandy's. From what I heard I was expecting a decent spot with quality food but this is was far from that. There was so many things on the menu that you start to wonder if they can actually make all these meals properly. I went with something that I believed would be a safe bet which was the pulled pork sandwich. I was wrong. The sandwich was a decent size but that's the only good thing about it. It tasted like it was heated up in a microwave. The price was extremely expensive for what it was and it didn't even come with a side of anything. I wasn't the only one who didn't enjoy the experience here. My friend ordered a cheeseburger that has no lettuce or tomatoes or anything other than the meat, cheese and the buns. I don't know if I was expecting a lot more but what I was asking for wasn't anything crazy. Overall, expensive, below par location that I will advise people to stay away from. read more

If there is one place I am more than qualified to comment on its Jim D's! I have eaten here no less than 100 times since moving to Nutley and it is so easy to take this place for granted. Truth of it is, that if you just taste the food, you never need to go anywhere else no matter what your in the mood for. Casual place, no bullshit. Kids, no kids doesn't matter. Pick anything on the endless menu's on the wall, its all really good. Every sandwich, wrap, salad, fries, rings are always done right. If they are not, just tell them....... they will make it right. The ribs are as good as anywhere you will get. If I put them on an expensive piece of china and served them to you and charged you $30 you'd think you were having the best ribs of your life. If you "accidentally" walk past the bathrooms you wind up in a great bar located right next door, how convenient! Family that owns and operates this place are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. You will probably bump into them while you are there and you would never know because they are either working behind the counter, or hanging at the bar being great hosts. read more

BBQ is not an easy business to run. It takes a long time to prepare, requires a great deal of attention and generally, people are just picky about it. That said, BBQ delivery is an even harder business to run. Based on my one and only experience with Jim Dandy's, BBQ is not their problem. The ribs were outstanding and fell right off the bone just like everyone else has said. The only problem with them is they were cold upon being delivered. This isn't a huge deal, but when you just throw them in styrofoam and don't wrap them in foil first, loss of heat should be expected. This place really should just stick to ribs. The sides aren't worth it. The person over the phone told us the fries weren't fresh and that the mac and cheese wasn't like Kraft. Not really. It was exactly like Kraft, only inside a breaded triangle. And also frozen. We noticed right away they forgot the baked potato, yet they packed butter and sour cream. When I called to tell them they forgot it, they actually asked if we still wanted it. Unbelievable. I'm very upset tonight. I ordered a cheesesteak with fries and 24 boneless wings. I always order from the Rutherford location with no issues. This experience was horrible. The sandwich had one unmelted piece of cheese, the fries were gross re-fried crinkle cut instead of fresh cut, the wings were so gooey and gross. I called to complain and then I went in person to bring the food back. He calmly checked my bag for all of this disgusting food, before giving me a refund. Jim Dandy's should honestly be a historical landmark in Nutley at this point. I believe that every person who lives here has ended up at the Mud Hole drinking beers or eating a burger and fries at Jim Dandy's. I have been coming here as a kid and I strive to find mozzarella sticks that can even compare to theirs, but I have yet to succeed. Honestly their breading is so perfect and the mozzarella cheese pull is always a sight to behold. I usually pair that with a side order of fries COOKED LIGHTLY! If you like em crunchy, you don't have to ask them to cook your fries up lightly. Anyway, they have many other vegetarian options that are delightful. But just make sure you are hungry. In regards to the rest of the menu, everything is pretty spot on. From sandwiches, paninis, burgers, nachos, to hot dogs- Jim Dandy's can do it all. P.s. all the staff are extremely friendly and will ring you up fast. Everything is mostly self serve. On weekdays they usually make chocolate chip cookies. Found my new place!! I think there used to be a location in Cedar Grove when I was growing up, but this was my first time visiting Nutley at least as far as I can remember. Menu is HUGE and overwhelming, there are so many things I would try! I'm not a huge ribs person but apparently their ribs are really good. Ultimately everyone in my group ordered a panini which came with a huge heap of fries. We ordered a side of onion rings too that were probably some of the best i've ever had. What I really like is the vibe inside - you order at a counter and they bring the food to you. You just sit back and relax, get drinks if you want and they'll keep the tab open for you. read more

Can't speak for their ribs, but I read several reviews raving about their burger. Not my style to detract from local businesses, but have to be honest: The first rule re: burgers, is you don't put them on a kaiser role. Especially if the bun completely eclipses the burger in size. The best burgers are served on toasted brioche or kaiser buns. In any case, we ended up removing about 50% of the bread and still had plenty of it. The burger itself was okay. Nothing special. I didn't get to eat here yet but on a whim my girlfriends from LA said "we are going to Jim Dandy for drinks at 9 I live nearby and I really liked this bar, we had this bartender named John who liked to be called JT or JD and he was lightning fast! I've been to about 5000 bar is in my entire life and I've never seen a human being worked by that quickly. I think that the only thing that I dislike about the bar was there was a constant disappointment with the DJ every song he played me my friends and everyone around us were wrong or eyes and we just couldn't get into the music as I noticed the crowd was trickling down because of this I was with my girlfriend Catherine when she walked up to the DJ He was an older Caucasian gentleman a little bit heavy and I bring in the heard him say that he liked to play music that he liked. The music was beachboys I will be Jamaica uncle Jesse from full house with a mix of some top 40s and it was just all over the place. I don't think that the DJ comprehended how to mix genres or please a young crowd When I went back to our chairs with the rest of our parties were I was with six girls and two guys I had heard a couple of people saying that the bar was a lot better when there was an African American gentleman DJ in the past that no monger DJs there. Trying support a local business during this chaotic time. I completely understand that this is uncharted territory but it took 2 hours to get my order delivered. I placed the order online at 6:15 and was given a delivery time of "by around 7:15". I called at 7:30 and was told the order was on the way. At 8pm i called again bc the I still hadn't received it. Again I was told it was on the way and would arrive in 10 minutes. I proceeded to explain the that is an hour after the intial time I was told online. The excuse was that "they can't figure out how to change the wait time online but if I ordered online I would have been told 2 hours". I find it unacceptable that they are not updating their online customers. The website requires a phone number so if they knew the order time was wrong, they could called to let me know. After receiving my order, which was cold, I called back the restaurant and they more than willing to send me a whole new order. The new food took less than 30 minutes and was delicious. read more

I've eaten here many years ago before I knew all about Yelp and it was delicious back then, so I knew coming back this time would be just the same and was even better. I ordered a Philly cheesesteak with onions to go, along with French fries, of course. The guy at the counter was super friendly and took my order right away. I got my meal approximately 15 min later( there were no patrons in yet). There menu is on a few different boards written in chalk around the bar/counter area. I'm assuming they gave waiters since it is a pretty large dining area and attached is a country type bar. When I got home, my food was still warm and it was so delicious. The bread was lightly toasted yet soft and the steak was chopped up so well, just like out in Philly. For $11, it filled me up for the night. More like a 3.5. Ordered delivery during lunchtime on a Friday. Food came on time and was nice and warm, but then again I live pretty close. I got a BLT which was almost fantastic. Heaping amount of B, but it needed more T for me to like it more. My side of Dandy's Chips was awesome; the portion was huge (it's listed as a side and was ~$4 so I wasn't expecting a whole large containee full) and obviously freshly fried. So crunchy, so simple, so good. They poked holes in the container so it wouldn't get soggy from the steam. Partner got a half rack of ribs; says the meat was not the best quality but it was cooked nicely enough to fall off the bone. The BBQ sauce was apparently too sweet for his taste. His fries were soggy (they didn't poke his container lol. Consistency!) and his side order jumbo pretzel was not that great. Definitely a jumbo, but hard as a rock, and didn't come with enough dip. Even my dog, who loves basically everything, did not want the pretzel. That says something to me. Also, the first thing the delivery guy said to me was: "No tip?" with what I'm hoping was RBF. ...
