We finally made it this past weekend to Vinnie's Mootz for one of their special tasting menu nights, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're expecting a typical dinner, think again. The tasting menu featured around 12 courses, and by course ten I was completely full--but somehow still excited for what was coming next. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, packed with flavor and very tasty. For me the standout of the night was the very first dish which was Vinnie's homemade mozzarella with tomatoes, which was so good that we even bought some fresh mozzarella to take home. The meatballs were also outstanding, and the steak and eggplant course was another highlight. After all that food, finishing with a cannoli just felt like the perfect ending. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, but the food is every bit as good as what you'd find at restaurants that cost a lot more. Live guitar music throughout the evening added to the experience created a nice vibe. My only suggestion would be maybe to turn it down a notch or two as it was a little hard to hear others at our table. Still a very nice touch though and all songs you would know. I always like it when a chef comes out of the kitchen, especially at a tasting menu, and Vinnie came out several times to chat with guests which was very nice. It just added a personal touch and showed how much pride goes into both the food and the overall experience and we got to hear his back story. This tasting menu is an incredible value and a great way to try dishes you might not normally order. Just remember to come hungry--and maybe skip lunch beforehand. If you can get a reservation for one of these tasting nights, don't hesitate. read more

A sandwich-and-slice shop with a personality all its own. I had passed this lunch spot countless times -- usually chuckling at the somewhat ridiculous name -- always telling myself I'd eventually stop in one day. After my first visit, I can say the tongue-in-cheek spirit of Vinnie Mootz's signage carries right through the front door and into its lineup of "SANGWEECHES." I ordered "The Nicky Mootz" -- cutlet, bacon, hot sauce, and fresh mootz -- and enjoyed it immensely in the friendly, medium-sized dining room. The pizza, which I plan to try on a future visit, looked excellent, and the small assortment of hand-stretched mozzarellas is reason enough to stop back in the next time I'm passing through. It's a Jersey sandwich -- excuse me, sangweech -- shop with all the charm, humor, and flavor you'd hope for the community! read more

Vinnie's Mootz is a great resturant, and you will not be disappointed if you go there. You can tell the passion when they're making your food and care about your experience. Give them time and you'll not regret the food you eat. I would recommend the Italian Stallion. It is delicious read more

Just moved into the neighborhood so I had to check this place out. Pretty extensive menu and everything looked and smelled amazing. I opted for the Porchetta with hot fryers and sharp cheese. Best one I've ever had (outside DeNics) Also got a hot roast beef with fresh homemade mootz and au jus- killer! A new favorite spot to keep me from losing weight-lol! read more

Still as delicious as ever. With their updated menu, this place is a fantastic staple in Lyndhurst. The staff is always so friendly, on the phone and in person. Their sandwiches are to die for. The chicken Milano is a favorite in my house. Chicken cutlet, burrata, creamy Italian dressing - what's not to like? Their Caesar salad with eggplant is delicious. Their pizza - the best I've ever had. Idk what the magic is but the sauce, the dough- yum. Their pretzels are good, their mini strombolis are delish. You just can't go wrong with this place. Love catering their shaped mozzarella for holidays too. Love Vinnie's, I'm glad they've become an established eatery in town. read more

The place is nice and has a great variety of options. The pizza slices were nice and big, tasted really good. The Mediterranean sangweech (eggplant, roasted peppers, mozzarella, and balsamic glaze) was enormous and so incredibly delicious. Possibly the best eggplant sandwich I've had! We went early in the day so there was no one eating in and it was fast to order and get our food to go. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning! read more

Third time visiting I got a Prosciutto and Mootz which was not on their menu selection a little odd. I ordered with roasted peppers nothing else. The sandwich came quickly freshly prepared. Good size and for $17 it should have been. However the crust made no sound when you bit the sandwich. The garlic in the roasted peppers overwhelmed the flavor of everything else. . See pic. That destroyed the taste of the sandwich. The cheese is good but it lacks the creaminess found at 5th+Adam read more

Inside of restaurant was very clean and welcoming, with fresh flowers on the tables and welcoming workers. It felt like I was walking inside a loving family home. Chicken Parmesan with vodka sauce (8.7/10) - Bread was toasty with a nice crunch. Vodka sauce was light and creamy, and the mozzarella was very fresh (lots of cheese pulls). The chicken was thin but crispy and tasty. A little more sauce and chicken would really take this to the next level. Italian Sub with the works 9.2/10 - Bread was very soft and gave a nice bite to the sandwich. They were very generous with the meats, cheese, and fixings. The veggies were fresh and mayo was good quality. All the ingredients came together nicely with every bite with no ingredients missing in any part of the sandwich read more

Vinnie's Mootz 356 Valley Brook Avenue Lyndhurst, NJ 07071 More Than Waffles Southern Bell Where's The Beef? The Uncle Phil The Mediterranean I previously posted about this family owned sandwich shop and pizzeria. Each choice was a home run that I had to come back to explore some more. More Than Waffles: This is not your typical chicken and waffles; it is even better. This sandwich version of the southern entrée is layered with breaded cutlets, mootz, bacon and drizzled with hot honey. Be prepared for sticky fingers. Southern Bell: The Southern Bell has two full size cutlets loaded with burrata cream. The chunks of cream kept falling out, which is definitely a good problem. Where's The Beef? You won't need to search very hard to find the protein in this ironically named sandwich. A larger sized soup bowl is also included which will you need to dip this enormous sandwich in the au jus. The Uncle Phil: Here is a perfect variation of the classic steak pizzaiola dish. The tender chuck steak was smothered in red sauce; a divine combination. The Mediterranean: If are not a fan of eggplant heroes, this sandwich will change your mind in a heartbeat. In addition to being generously piled with breaded eggplant, the hoagie was sprinkled with hot, roasted peppers for that spicy kick! As a bonus, this spot also has an Italian market where you can purchase top quality cooking ingredients for superb Italian meals. As another bonus, students are eligible to purchase selected lunch specials on weekdays. Be sure to ring the bell if this is your first time exploring Vinnie's Mootz! Between excellent food and friendly service, I can virtually guarantee there will definitely be a next time. #vinniesmootz #mootz #lyndhurstnj #sandwichshop #morethanwaffles #southernbell #wheresthebeef #theunclephil #themediterranean #localspots #familyownedbusiness #eats #foodstagram #localspot #foodreview #njfoo read more

Juat back from the taster menu. Luke warm, bland, heavy, and only dishes all 6 of us finished were the mozzarella and shrimp. Sorry but awful, even served over cook steak (2nd from.last dish) with cold eggplant. O.M.G.!!!!! All I can say is DELICIOUS. We ordered a pizza & capresse salad. So wonderful. The pizza is like what pizza USED to be. Great flavor and a cheese pull with each bite. The salad was VERY good. They make their own mozzarella which is soft not tough like everyone else. All ingredients are top quality & fresh. The pepperoni is top quantity. You really can't go wrong with anything here, everything is so fresh, and needless to say the mootz is AMAZING, 10/10. Don't just try their sandwiches, they also have some of the best pizza in the area. Friendly service and family run business, I was helped by Vinnie, the man himself, who was doing everything from taking orders, cooking, ringing people up, and providing some comedic entertainment for those of us waiting for our orders. Support small businesses, truly lucky to have this gem in the area. read more

Have to assume that everyone already knows this is the best place to stock up for a MetLife tailgate but figured I would mention it. My daughter and I were headed to a concert and of course I turned that into an excuse to check Yelp. A place that features incredible store made mozzarella and includes it in the name seemed like a no brainer. Women working behind the counter were friendly and professional, even with half an hour remaining until closing time. Every sandwich on their menu looks incredible and I was tempted by the pork, broccoli rabe, and provolone but as a first timer, I needed to try the "mootz". Went with chicken cutlet, mozzarella, arugula, roasted peppers, and balsamic glaze. A classic for a reason. My daughter went with the chicken Parmesan hero. They had a lot of other nice options, including some nice looking pizza for future visits. We unveiled the sandwiches a bit later and they remained perfect, absolutely loved their mozzarella, chicken, bread and all of the flavors. I finished my sizable hero plus half of my daughter's hero. Not the best idea from a dietary standpoint but I wasn't wasting any delicious goodness! The locals are definitely lucky to have Vinnie's Mootz! read more

What a great establishment located in the town of Lyndhurst. Service is great even though it's been extremely busy the two times I've been there. It has a very welcoming vibe. Stopped by after hearing a lot of great things about their sandwiches and their mozzarella. I was NOT ready for how good everything here was going to be. Mozzarella: very light with amazing flavor and texture. Melt in your mouth and I imagine it will pair perfectly with whatever you eat it with... I can see why people always walk out with at least one ball of mozzarella The Lyndhurst sandwich (chicken cutlet, prosciutto, mozzarella): great combination and, to nobody's surprise, the mozzarella really ties the sandwich together Where's the meat sandwich (roast beef, mozzarella and au jus): Perfect combo. Amazing amount of roast beef complimented by the mozzarella all tied together with the au jus. Pepperoni square slice: the dough is so airy and so crunchy. Their cupped pepperonis is extremely flavorful and their tomato sauce is nice and light. Great slice and would highly recommend asking for a corner slice Vodka square slice: their vodka sauce is AMAZING. Highly recommend read more

It is very very very very RARE to go to a restaurant on visits and try basically everything and EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS. It's hard to pick my favorite menu item because all of it is literally top tier. I have walked in as well as ordered Grub Hub and it is very refreshing to have this place here in Lyndhurst. I am not a big foodie, but this place deserves my review. The customer service is top tier and the food is top tier. Their food and customer service is off the charts. You will not regret ordering or visiting this place. I have tried 70% of the menu items and they're all top tier. This is my new go-to spot in the area of Lyndhurst. read more

I've been to Vinnie's Mootz a couple of times in the past and have always been blown away by the Fresh Mootz and their sandwiches. I have always heard about the pizza, but never tried it and decided today was the day. I stopped by and looked in to the pizza display case and noticed there was no cheese/margherita pizza. I asked but was told unfortunately there is none, but if I'd like they have a great clam pie with roasted garlic. It wasn't quite what I was craving, but, it looked fresh and I am a sucker for roasted garlic so I ordered it. As I was waiting for my clam slice to warm up, I asked if there was any fresh cheese coming out and the young man hesitated at first, but then told me if I'm willing to wait 15 minutes for me, he'd make it. I LOVE THAT!! It is so important to go above and beyond and having that awareness and being able to add those little personal touches is what sets this establishment apart from the next one. My clam slice was warmed up and handed to me, and it was good, but needed a little more oomph! I suggest a roasted garlic spread/base under the cheese, topped with clam sauce and a drizzle of olive oil, red pepper flakes, and parsley at the end to round out the flavors. Maybe even a sprinkle of lemon zest! Shortly thereafter, the young man asked me what I thought of the clam slice and I gave him my honest feedback. He was genuinely interested and said it was the first time they've ever made it. His humbleness was incredibly apparent and once again, that sort of demeanor is so refreshing. The cheese pie came out and he came from around the counter to hand me my box, thanked me, and wished me a nice weekend! All of this seems so simple doesn't it? I'm a veteran of the pizza and food business with over 25 years of experience and what I can tell you is, that service like this, is actually pretty rare. I know from my prior visits that this young man is Matteo, the owners son, and to me, that makes this experience 10x better. Why, you may ask? The fact that the owners son is this hospitable, earnest, down to earth, caring, and polite is really an anomaly. I have always been brought back by the food, but I am now additionally going to be brought back due to the customer service. In this business, it's the little details that make the experience and the guest return and give word of mouth which is more valuable than influencers. Matteo, thank you for your recommendation, and for making my simple transaction of 3 slices not only delicious but a memorable one too! read more

First time ordering from here and it was SO GOOD. The drunken eggplant parm was insanely tasty - eggplant sliced thin and breaded perfectly topped with flavorful vodka sauce, but that mootz was by far the star of the show tying it all together. Great portion and absolutely delicious. My only complaint is I wish I had more! I also tried the Lyndhurst which was very good although I wish the cutlet was hot. We added garlic mayo and while it was tasty the huge chunks of garlic were a bit much. All in all, I will absolutely order from here again. Delicious! read more

So I wanted a roast pork with a mozzarella and couldn't find an Italian deli that had it. I found this place on yelp and decided to try it. I arrived just as all the local high school kids had arrived in. I was considering leaving because I thought the wait would be too long. But the girl behind the counter asked me what I wanted right away. I was given the sandwich and I almost dropped it because it was so heavy! It was expensive ( more than $18) but it was so good! Definitely will go back. My only suggestion was that they should slice the roast pork thinner because that make the flavor better. read more

Combination of sandwich shop, slice joint, and Italian grocery and it totally works. Mozzarella is fresh made in house and the star of every sandwich, regardless of the toppings. Stumbled on this place walking back to my car from the coffee shop up the block. Had no idea this was here but pleasantly surprised. You can order online ahead or pop in to order to-go. We ordered the Lucky Lady and Italian Stallion. The combination of ingredients on both sandwiches were classic and perfectly matched. Would come back to order a different sandwich... or the same... or both. read more

I finally made it here. You can order online or in person. I opted in person and waited on this rainy Saturday. A very steady flow of people coming in and out and everything was very efficient. I went for a sandwich with fresh mootz but looks like they are coming up pizza there as well. I got the Stugotz which was a meatball sandwich. Meatballs were absolutely phenomenal. Beats any around that I've had. The sauce was very tasty and just the right amount. They then layered it with a generous portion of their house made fresh mootz which was soooooo good. My wife got the Lucky Lady sandwich which was two thinly slices, breaded chicken breasts, with roasted peppers, arugula and another generous portion of mootz. I'll definitely be back to see what the pizza is all about. Don't snooze on this place. If you're in the mood for a good Italian sammich, here's the place. read more

My original review was for when Mr. Mootz had his little hole in the wall on Ridge Road and now that the word is out on how good all of his stuff is... they moved a few blocks away to a proper restaurant and expanded his menu. And if that wasn't enough of a flex - then he entered the 'NJ Pizza Bowl' in the winter of 2024 and... won! So I swung by (the very same night they were doing a local fundraising event - so the place was a zoo) to see what the fuss was all about. Walking the pizza to my car to head home - it smelled incredible. Got home, the fam gathered around to open the box - it wasn't the prettiest square pie we'd ever seen but it was massive (and could've been used as one of those mats pole vaulters land on). We dug in and the compliments started to immediately pour out of us between bites. A vibrant fresh sauce. You know that (melted) cheese was 'perfetto'. And that crust... sturdy and thick and amazingly spongy with that lovely snap to it when you went in for a bite. There's only one type/style/option when it comes to their pizza (it falls somewhere between your classic Sicilian and Grandma's style). It ain't cheap.   But it's a serious work of art. Everyone in town used to hype up Mr. Bruno's Sicilian but I gotta be honest: Vinnie's is where it's at. (Parking around here kind of stinks.) My official "In-Town Pizzeria Ranking - Spring 2024 Edition" looks something like: Top of the Charts: Josie's (still ranked at #1) followed by Vinnie Mootz and Lino's. At the Bottom: Lyndhurst Pizza and Pietro's. read more

Looks like some Italian delis in town have competition! Gigantic sandwiches for $12.95 with some of the best fresh mozzarella around?! Heck yes! They have taken over the old Chris' Pizzeria spot which allows you to sit and eat. Fresh stuffed breads available as well although not listed on the menu. We had their: Oink Oink- porchetta, sharp provolone, broccoli rabe & long hots (excellent but added mozz to mine.) The Lyndhurst- 2 freshly fried chicken cutlets, fresh mozz & prosciutto (excellent but like 2 pieces of prosciutto) Where' the Beef? - homemade roast beef and mozz. Again excellent but they forgot to include the gravy in our takeout. Fresh mozzarella is as tasty as my fave salumeria down the road! Check out the menu where they offer holiday shaped mozzarella for many occasions! You definitely can't beat the sandwich prices! Can't wait to return and try more! read more
