Third time visiting I got a Prosciutto and Mootz which was not on their menu selection a little odd. I ordered with roasted peppers nothing else. The sandwich came quickly freshly prepared. Have to assume that everyone already knows this is the best place to stock up for a MetLife tailgate but figured I would mention it. My daughter and I were headed to a concert and of course I turned that into an excuse to check Yelp. A place that features incredible store made mozzarella and includes it in the name seemed like a no brainer. Women working behind the counter were friendly and professional, even with half an hour remaining until closing time. Every sandwich on their menu looks incredible and I was tempted by the pork, broccoli rabe, and provolone but as a first timer, I needed to try the "mootz". Went with chicken cutlet, mozzarella, arugula, roasted peppers, and balsamic glaze. A classic for a reason. My daughter went with the chicken Parmesan hero. They had a lot of other nice options, including some nice looking pizza for future visits. We unveiled the sandwiches a bit later and they remained perfect, absolutely loved their mozzarella, chicken, bread and all of the flavors. I finished my sizable hero plus half of my daughter's hero. I've been to Vinnie's Mootz a couple of times in the past and have always been blown away by the Fresh Mootz and their sandwiches. I have always heard about the pizza, but never tried it and decided today was the day. I stopped by and looked in to the pizza display case and noticed there was no cheese/margherita pizza. I asked but was told unfortunately there is none, but if I'd like they have a great clam pie with roasted garlic. It wasn't quite what I was craving, but, it looked fresh and I am a sucker for roasted garlic so I ordered it. As I was waiting for my clam slice to warm up, I asked if there was any fresh cheese coming out and the young man hesitated at first, but then told me if I'm willing to wait 15 minutes for me, he'd make it. I LOVE THAT!! It is so important to go above and beyond and having that awareness and being able to add those little personal touches is what sets this establishment apart from the next one. My clam slice was warmed up and handed to me, and it was good, but needed a little more oomph! I suggest a roasted garlic spread/base under the cheese, topped with clam sauce and a drizzle of olive oil, red pepper flakes, and parsley at the end to round out the flavors. Maybe even a sprinkle of lemon zest! Shortly thereafter, the young man asked me what I thought of the clam slice and I gave him my honest feedback. He was genuinely interested and said it was the first time they've ever made it. His humbleness was incredibly apparent and once again, that sort of demeanor is so refreshing. The cheese pie came out and he came from around the counter to hand me my box, thanked me, and wished me a nice weekend! All of this seems so simple doesn't it? I'm a veteran of the pizza and food business with over 25 years of experience and what I can tell you is, that service like this, is actually pretty rare. I know from my prior visits that this young man is Matteo, the owners son, and to me, that makes this experience 10x better. Why, you may ask? The fact that the owners son is this hospitable, earnest, down to earth, caring, and polite is really an anomaly. I have always been brought back by the food, but I am now additionally going to be brought back due to the customer service. I finally made it here. You can order online or in person. I opted in person and waited on this rainy Saturday. A very steady flow of people coming in and out and everything was very efficient. I went for a sandwich with fresh mootz but looks like they are coming up pizza there as well. I got the Stugotz which was a meatball sandwich. Meatballs were absolutely phenomenal. Beats any around that I've had. The sauce was very tasty and just the right amount. They then layered it with a generous portion of their house made fresh mootz which was soooooo good. My original review was for when Mr. Mootz had his little hole in the wall on Ridge Road and now that the word is out on how good all of his stuff is... they moved a few blocks away to a proper restaurant and expanded his menu. And if that wasn't enough of a flex - then he entered the 'NJ Pizza Bowl' in the winter of 2024 and... won! So I swung by (the very same night they were doing a local fundraising event - so the place was a zoo) to see what the fuss was all about. Walking the pizza to my car to head home - it smelled incredible. Got home, the fam gathered around to open the box - it wasn't the prettiest square pie we'd ever seen but it was massive (and could've been used as one of those mats pole vaulters land on). We dug in and the compliments started to immediately pour out of us between bites. A vibrant fresh sauce. You know that (melted) cheese was 'perfetto'. And that crust... sturdy and thick and amazingly spongy with that lovely snap to it when you went in for a bite. There's only one type/style/option when it comes to their pizza (it falls somewhere between your classic Sicilian and Grandma's style). It ain't cheap.   But it's a serious work of art. Everyone in town used to hype up Mr. Bruno's Sicilian but I gotta be honest: Vinnie's is where it's at. (Parking around here kind of stinks.) My official "In-Town Pizzeria Ranking - Spring 2024 Edition" looks something like: Top of the Charts: Josie's (still ranked at #1) followed by Vinnie Mootz and Lino's. They have taken over the old Chris' Pizzeria spot which allows you to sit and eat. Fresh stuffed breads available as well although not listed on the menu. We had their: Oink Oink- porchetta, sharp provolone, broccoli rabe & long hots (excellent but added mozz to mine.) The Lyndhurst- 2 freshly fried chicken cutlets, fresh mozz & prosciutto (excellent but like 2 pieces of prosciutto) Where' the Beef? - homemade roast beef and mozz. Again excellent but they forgot to include the gravy in our takeout. Fresh mozzarella is as tasty as my fave salumeria down the road!
