We finally made it this past weekend to Vinnie's Mootz for one of their special tasting menu nights, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. If you're expecting a typical dinner, think again. The tasting menu featured around 12 courses, and by course ten I was completely full--but somehow still excited for what was coming next. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, packed with flavor and very tasty. For me the standout of the night was the very first dish which was Vinnie's homemade mozzarella with tomatoes, which was so good that we even bought some fresh mozzarella to take home. The meatballs were also outstanding, and the steak and eggplant course was another highlight. After all that food, finishing with a cannoli just felt like the perfect ending. The atmosphere is casual and inviting, but the food is every bit as good as what you'd find at restaurants that cost a lot more. Live guitar music throughout the evening added to the experience created a nice vibe. My only suggestion would be maybe to turn it down a notch or two as it was a little hard to hear others at our table. Still a very nice touch though and all songs you would know. I always like it when a chef comes out of the kitchen, especially at a tasting menu, and Vinnie came out several times to chat with guests which was very nice. It just added a personal touch and showed how much pride goes into both the food and the overall experience and we got to hear his back story. This tasting menu is an incredible value and a great way to try dishes you might not normally order. Just remember to come hungry--and maybe skip lunch beforehand. A sandwich-and-slice shop with a personality all its own. I had passed this lunch spot countless times -- usually chuckling at the somewhat ridiculous name -- always telling myself I'd eventually stop in one day. After my first visit, I can say the tongue-in-cheek spirit of Vinnie Mootz's signage carries right through the front door and into its lineup of "SANGWEECHES." I ordered "The Nicky Mootz" -- cutlet, bacon, hot sauce, and fresh mootz -- and enjoyed it immensely in the friendly, medium-sized dining room. The pizza, which I plan to try on a future visit, looked excellent, and the small assortment of hand-stretched mozzarellas is reason enough to stop back in the next time I'm passing through. Inside of restaurant was very clean and welcoming, with fresh flowers on the tables and welcoming workers. It felt like I was walking inside a loving family home. Chicken Parmesan with vodka sauce (8.7/10) - Bread was toasty with a nice crunch. Vodka sauce was light and creamy, and the mozzarella was very fresh (lots of cheese pulls). The chicken was thin but crispy and tasty. A little more sauce and chicken would really take this to the next level. Third time visiting I got a Prosciutto and Mootz which was not on their menu selection a little odd. I ordered with roasted peppers nothing else. The sandwich came quickly freshly prepared. Have to assume that everyone already knows this is the best place to stock up for a MetLife tailgate but figured I would mention it. My daughter and I were headed to a concert and of course I turned that into an excuse to check Yelp. A place that features incredible store made mozzarella and includes it in the name seemed like a no brainer. Women working behind the counter were friendly and professional, even with half an hour remaining until closing time. Every sandwich on their menu looks incredible and I was tempted by the pork, broccoli rabe, and provolone but as a first timer, I needed to try the "mootz". Went with chicken cutlet, mozzarella, arugula, roasted peppers, and balsamic glaze. A classic for a reason. My daughter went with the chicken Parmesan hero. They had a lot of other nice options, including some nice looking pizza for future visits. We unveiled the sandwiches a bit later and they remained perfect, absolutely loved their mozzarella, chicken, bread and all of the flavors. I finished my sizable hero plus half of my daughter's hero. So I wanted a roast pork with a mozzarella and couldn't find an Italian deli that had it. I found this place on yelp and decided to try it. I arrived just as all the local high school kids had arrived in. I was considering leaving because I thought the wait would be too long. But the girl behind the counter asked me what I wanted right away. I was given the sandwich and I almost dropped it because it was so heavy! It was expensive ( more than $18) but it was so good! I've been to Vinnie's Mootz a couple of times in the past and have always been blown away by the Fresh Mootz and their sandwiches. I have always heard about the pizza, but never tried it and decided today was the day. I stopped by and looked in to the pizza display case and noticed there was no cheese/margherita pizza. I asked but was told unfortunately there is none, but if I'd like they have a great clam pie with roasted garlic. It wasn't quite what I was craving, but, it looked fresh and I am a sucker for roasted garlic so I ordered it. As I was waiting for my clam slice to warm up, I asked if there was any fresh cheese coming out and the young man hesitated at first, but then told me if I'm willing to wait 15 minutes for me, he'd make it. I LOVE THAT!! It is so important to go above and beyond and having that awareness and being able to add those little personal touches is what sets this establishment apart from the next one. My clam slice was warmed up and handed to me, and it was good, but needed a little more oomph! I suggest a roasted garlic spread/base under the cheese, topped with clam sauce and a drizzle of olive oil, red pepper flakes, and parsley at the end to round out the flavors. Maybe even a sprinkle of lemon zest! Shortly thereafter, the young man asked me what I thought of the clam slice and I gave him my honest feedback. He was genuinely interested and said it was the first time they've ever made it. His humbleness was incredibly apparent and once again, that sort of demeanor is so refreshing. The cheese pie came out and he came from around the counter to hand me my box, thanked me, and wished me a nice weekend! All of this seems so simple doesn't it? I'm a veteran of the pizza and food business with over 25 years of experience and what I can tell you is, that service like this, is actually pretty rare. I know from my prior visits that this young man is Matteo, the owners son, and to me, that makes this experience 10x better. Why, you may ask? The fact that the owners son is this hospitable, earnest, down to earth, caring, and polite is really an anomaly. I have always been brought back by the food, but I am now additionally going to be brought back due to the customer service. In this business, it's the little details that make the experience and the guest return and give word of mouth which is more valuable than influencers. The drunken eggplant parm was insanely tasty - eggplant sliced thin and breaded perfectly topped with flavorful vodka sauce, but that mootz was by far the star of the show tying it all together. We went originally for the first time on Valentine's Day! We did their prefix dinner and also took a mootz making class. Honestly, it was so fun and different. Had a blast. There was also an Elvis impersonator who sang and he was not only funny but music was good! We got to meet Vinny and his wife who were also so sweet. Since then, we've ordered sandwiches to be delivered and OMG they are probably the best I've ever had. The Italian hero they have is out of this world. I finally made it here. You can order online or in person. I opted in person and waited on this rainy Saturday. A very steady flow of people coming in and out and everything was very efficient. I went for a sandwich with fresh mootz but looks like they are coming up pizza there as well. I got the Stugotz which was a meatball sandwich. Meatballs were absolutely phenomenal. Beats any around that I've had. The sauce was very tasty and just the right amount. They then layered it with a generous portion of their house made fresh mootz which was soooooo good. My wife got the Lucky Lady sandwich which was two thinly slices, breaded chicken breasts, with roasted peppers, arugula and another generous portion of mootz. My original review was for when Mr. Mootz had his little hole in the wall on Ridge Road and now that the word is out on how good all of his stuff is... they moved a few blocks away to a proper restaurant and expanded his menu. And if that wasn't enough of a flex - then he entered the 'NJ Pizza Bowl' in the winter of 2024 and... won! So I swung by (the very same night they were doing a local fundraising event - so the place was a zoo) to see what the fuss was all about. Walking the pizza to my car to head home - it smelled incredible. Got home, the fam gathered around to open the box - it wasn't the prettiest square pie we'd ever seen but it was massive (and could've been used as one of those mats pole vaulters land on). We dug in and the compliments started to immediately pour out of us between bites. A vibrant fresh sauce. You know that (melted) cheese was 'perfetto'. And that crust... sturdy and thick and amazingly spongy with that lovely snap to it when you went in for a bite. There's only one type/style/option when it comes to their pizza (it falls somewhere between your classic Sicilian and Grandma's style). It ain't cheap.   But it's a serious work of art. Everyone in town used to hype up Mr. Bruno's Sicilian but I gotta be honest: Vinnie's is where it's at. (Parking around here kind of stinks.) They have taken over the old Chris' Pizzeria spot which allows you to sit and eat. Fresh stuffed breads available as well although not listed on the menu. We had their: Oink Oink- porchetta, sharp provolone, broccoli rabe & long hots (excellent but added mozz to mine.) The Lyndhurst- 2 freshly fried chicken cutlets, fresh mozz & prosciutto (excellent but like 2 pieces of prosciutto) Where' the Beef? - homemade roast beef and mozz. My friend has been coming here for a while and has been recommending it to me. I live close so a couple weeks ago I decided to give it a try. I am upset I haven't been earlier. I have now gone twice and both times got the same thing. Both times the sandwich was fire. Fresh ingredients, delicious, and reasonably priced for the quantity of food you get. I also tried a slice of pizza and was very pleasantly surprised. I look forward to returning and exploring the menu a little deeper. Highly recommend. Employees were engaged and very considerate by asking preference questions if I wanted the au jus on the sandwich, on the side for dunking, or both. All the ingredients involved were mouth watering.
