Very good sandwiches but they are on the pricey side. Chicken cutlets cooked perfectly and have great flavor, very good broccoli rob as well, they have excellent bread. The premade salads are very good as well. Perfect for lunch or dinner. Very clean and nice looking deli inside with pastas from Italy and other Italian products you won't normally find at your local supermarket. I pass by this place all the time & decided to give it a try yesterday. I was impressed by the amount of interesting vegetable dishes on display. I ordered a sandwich and a little side salad and was annoyed that the tab came to $27 with tax and tip. However, the food was amazing! The cannellini bean, celery, tomato, avocado salad was divine. I have to learn how to make this! The mortadella sandwich was very surprising - the ricotta and the fresh oregano elevated it tremendously. The sandwich and salad wound up being two lunches for me. I found this gem on a suggestion on one of my other reviews. I love how everyone is working together for the pursuit of fine dining. When you walk in is massive and immaculate. Just a tip because I was fumbling around; the sandwich board is too your left when you first walk in. I got my traditional chicken, broccoli rabe and mozz and got my wife the Italian hero. Now wait.... is that.... no..... yeah, it is... pizzagaina. I had to get a slice of that. I'm going right to the pizzagaina. I haven't had this for YEARS and it was absolutely heaven. YES, YES and YES.... get a piece! It was just like I remembered it as a kid. I eat mine cold just as is. The spice of the pepperoni steals the show. Chicken and broccoli rabe sandwich was excellent as was the Italian hero. My wife and I wound up sharing each one. The only thing was that they forgot the mayo on the Italian. Michael's was highly recommended to me, and I totally get why it's a neighborhood favorite. The guys working were super nice and helpful. They sold me on the roast beef as it's made in house. After careful consideration I went with the roast beef with Asiago cheese, arugula, and garlic Mayo. The sandwich was a little dry, but the garlic mayo was insane. I'd drink it through a straw. The roast beef was good, but I was expecting to be wow'd and I wasn't. Nonetheless, a tasty sandwich. I also grabbed a few rice balls while they had some available. Outstanding! read more

(How did I neglect to review Michael's for all these years?! Long before Yelp existed I was here faithfully every Saturday morning stocking up on a variety of goodies.) Lyndhurst is a small town populated with more pizzerias than is probably necessary and a handful of solid Italian delis but Michael's is easily the best of the bunch. The store is extremely clean. The food is fresh and when they first open the small squad working in the back are busting their hump bringing out countless prepared foods and whatever I've tried (breaded chicken cutlets, stuffed mushrooms, pasta in vodka sauce, you name it) has always been ridiculously good. Their sandwiches (and bread selection) are solid as well. There's a decent selection of imports as well. On my more recent visits it looks like a whole new crew are behind the counter (I believe all the OG's jumped ship to their sister-joint, Suprema, in Rutherford) - but the workers are still really friendly and on top of their game. A heads up: parking can be an issue and Michael's has never been shy to charge a pretty nickel for their grub. I'd definitely put Michael's Salumeria in the Top 10 of Italian Delis in the Garden State. (And trust me... I've been to more than a few of them over the years.) read more

Totally boggled by the one star reviews on this place!! No meat on the sandwich? Thick cut cold cuts?? Bologna!! My mortadella sandwich was packed with meat sliced to paper thin perfection. The ricotta on the sandwich was creamy and plentiful. The oil and oregano were perfect compliments. And I got a hunk of pizza gaina in honor of the upcoming holiday and it was better than my grandma's!! So sad I don't live closer to here. I follow them on Instagram and all their posts are drool worthy. But I'm back up north enough to make sure this will be a stop I make before heading back to the shore. read more

This place is still perfect to me! We picked up our special order request of seafood crepes and my mind is blown away! I've never tasted anything like these anywhere! Phenomenal! Thank you Anthony! My favorite Italian deli in town! We have been going here for years and the service and quality has never been anything less than stellar. I have never once obtained a meal here that was bad. You can't help but buy more than what you came in for. They have the best fresh mozzarella compared to any I have tried elsewhere all my life. Staff is amicable and the place is always clean. There is never any food slopped over their dishes on the glass incases. Food is always being replenished. Hubby always orders a grilled chicken sandwich with fresh mozz and toppings. My go to is mortadella, ricotta, oregano and O&V. Every Christmas we order their catered shrimp scampi which are like colossal shrimp and fried fish fillets. I could go on and on, but you just need to visit here if you haven't already. Be prepared to spend over $50 because you simply can't resist trying everything! read more

I have past this place many times and decided to try it today. There is a similar Salumeria in Jersey City off Broadway and Westside next to the old Puccini's and formerly the VILLA CAPRI. MICHAEL'S is located at 536 Valley Brook Avenue, just off Ridge Road in Lyndhurst and the number is 201-939-9654. They have an impressive menu of sandwiches and I had the chicken sandwich with red peppers and mozzarella and tomato for $13. I also order some macaroni salad and they also have hot dishes and a nice menu for takeout. The place is very clean and the employees are happy to assist you. Because of the holidays the place was fairly busy and it seems they have a regular customer crowd and the prices are very reasonable. All their "salad bar" options are so delicious and I have not tried one thing that I didn't like, everything is delicious! Their sandwiches are so delicious and big! What a terrible sandwich I ate today from here. Ordered: prosciutto, ham, spicy Capicolla, and provolone with sun-dried Peppers, lettuce, onion. When I unwrap the sandwich I see sundried Tomatoes not peppers.....The onions are terribly thick, lettuce is full leaf not shredded, and the meats are super THICK and so was the provolone. Every bite the meats would just pull out of the sandwich resulting in an unpleasant eating experience. See pics of my terrible lunch experience. Michael's is a Lyndhurst staple. A true gem. The food is authentic, like grandmas kitchen. They offer a wide selection of hot foods. Fresh mozzarella and a great antipasto section. The sauces to go are excellent (especially the meat sauce) the best around. Sandwiches are great with imported and domestic meats. Ordered catered food twice in a row and they didn't give me what I ordered. The first time I ordered and paid for 3 dozen stuffed clams and when I arrived home and opened the tray there was only one dozen. Called and complained and they just said they will give me credit towards the next time I place an order. One month later, in addition to other items, I ordered a tray of pork brasciole over polenta. I get home (which is 38 miles away) and notice they gave me pork over risotto. That's a big difference! When I called and spoke to Matthew all he said is "I am sorry". I will not go back there again. Sandwiches worthy of being kissed? You bet your hiney they are! Michael's has been around forever and with good reason. It is a family-run establishment and they have maintained their quality from generation to generation. Superior ingredients, fresh produce, and the best bread in the county...consistent excellence. Some other delis in the area use sarcasm and douchiness as their claim to fame, but frankly I am over that. And I am over their rock-hard Italian bread...and the way they lose our order at lunchtime. Michael's does not partake in such shenanigans and we love them for it! My disappointment isn't with their delicious food but with their business practices. We ordered company catering from Michael's twice in a month; a nice order of sandwiches, salads, etc. When we placed the first order we were asked if we needed paper goods, so we said "yes". No mention that we would be charged for this and it was $30!!! No other local business has been charging for paper goods and utensils and if you really have to, TELL US, don't sneak the charge on us. We placed our second order the other day and upon delivery, we discovered a 4% ($17) upcharge for paying by credit card. The disinterested delivery guy had no clue when we asked. Someone at Michael's told us "that's just what we do" without any apology we asked how come we weren't informed at the time of ordering. Everyone finds the food delicious but my boss won't allow us to order from Michael's again given the poor customer service communication. read more

I've been coming here since I was a kid. Always loved Michael's. The quality is superb, the staff is quick and friendly, and the food is excellent Italian deli food! My only qualm is I wish they would've put a little more fresh mozzarella on the sandwich I ordered. I've been pampered by some Hoboken delis that are not shy on the mozz. But still worth the 4 stars Highly recommend an Italian sandwich like salami or soppresatta with mozz and roasted red peppers. So good! Sandwiches are around $7.50 which isn't expensice for this type of place at all. Some of the things you order by the pound add up easily and it can get expensive, but that's pretty standard at nice delis. Stuffed roasted red peppers are a homerun too! A salami/mozzarella/roasted red pepper platter is great for parties! Go to Michael's; you won't regret it! :) read more

Second time coming here for an Italian sandwich. I must have forgotten how disappointed I was the first time. Thought it was a fluke. I just had a baby so couldn't eat deli meats during my pregnancy and I've been craving a sandwich. So, I treated myself on a day I was finally able to venture out and ordered a procuitto, mozzarella, and roasted red pepper with mayo sandwich. There was hardly any procuitto on my sandwich, I was so disappointed and disgusted. $12 for a sandwich and it was crap. Been living in NA for 8 years and today was our first time OMG what have we been missing. Felt like I took a trip to Italy without a passport. First and foremost, the staff is amazing, personable, and helpful with all the questions we had. Place was packed and they knew some of their regulars by name. Wife got the first sandwich on their sandwich menu and I customized my sandwich - chicken cutlet fresh mozz onions and garlic mayo; the cutlets mozz and bread are sime if the best I've had. First off this place is SUPER clean. Everything is neatly placed around the shop. They sell a lot of fun Italian specialty items and now that it's nearing Easter it's extra fun with big foiled chocolate eggs hanging around. The line can get long at lunch time, which sucks, but I find it worth the wait. The staff is friendly, young and even attractive. You can order a salad and toss it with whatever you want from the display case. I had an amazing combination of grilled chicken, sauteed long hot peppers, roasted red peppers and this tomato/bean/avocado salad blend. I only added a tiny amount of balsamic. The salads are SUPER fresh. I also tasted the beet and goat cheese salad...delicious! I'm falling in love with this place. I have to try their sandwiches one day soon. read more

I didn't have that great of an experience as everyone else. Ordered the prosciutto sandwich from the menu for pickup on a Saturday. It literally only had prosciutto and mozzarella with nothing else, no tomato, no greens, nothing. I guess I needed to explicitly say what I wanted in the sandwich. It's prob best to order while there to watch what goes in the sandwich. Also the bread was so hard it hurt my jaw. I must say that the prosciutto, mozzarella and the balsamic vinaigrette were good quality ingredients. So it's got that going for itself. However, I did pay $8.25 which I find a bit pricey. I was able to "fix" the sandwich at home by lightly toasting the bread and added my own tomato and fresh basil. It tasted great after that, thanks to me. Not the best first impression and bc of that it's hard to say I will return. read more
