I have had this place bookmarked on Yelp for the longest time. I was seafood and my husband suggested we try this place out. When I told my mom where we were going her reaction- "omg that place is still around?!? It use to be excellent back in the day!" Well I am happy to report this place is just as good today as it was during my mother's heyday. I decided to get a few oysters and clams to start off with and everything was just so fresh. As an entree the Seafood in a spicy red sauce was easily one of the best I have had in a very long time. There was a generous amount of seafood within the dish, the sauce I swear I could just drink it out of a cup and the pasta was cooked perfectly. My husband got the bbq ribs which I didn't try but you could see how they just slid right off the bone and he couldn't stop talking about how good they were. We ended our meal with some strong espresso. I enjoyed how it is a very casual atmosphere with a nice bar area that had a few TVs to watch some sports games. No need to dress to impress. The service was a little bit on the slower side but the waitress was very nice. The man who brought out my oysters, I asked him which were the east coast and which where in the west coast oysters, along with asking him where in the west coast my oysters were from and he couldn't tell me. I just think a place should just know these things is they are selling them. Nonetheless we still really enjoyed ourselves and can't wait to return. read more

My partner, our friends, and I have been to this family-owned establishment numerous times and decided to have dinner last night. The reservation was easily made via OpenTable. Upon entering this casual vibe, we were greeted by the host. There is a lively sports bar side full of TVs and a dining room side, where we got a booth immediately by the window. Their menu has a wide array of options, rivaled only by the countless photographs and mementos that fill nearly every inch of wall space. There are many sandwiches, a half-dozen salads, thin-crust pizzas, and a substantial range of pastas. For starters, we decided on two dozen East Coast oysters on a half shell and Steamed Mussels with white wine butter broth. A side of Italian bread was brought for dipping. As a main meal, we opted for the Turkey Chili, Baby Back Ribs, Fried Calamari, Caesar salad, and Fries. The food was excellent and delicious, using the freshest ingredients. The portions were healthy. The staff went out of their way to make one feel welcome, creating a friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Our server was Hadiyah. The price was reasonable. The Garden State's seafood scene is a testament to the state's rich maritime heritage, offering something for every palate, whether one's a regular or a first-timer. I met a friend for a beer on my way from work and we had a couple of beers to start off what would be a memorable lunch. Along the right hand side of the building there is a large bar that comfortably seats at least 15 or so and there are also about 12 high top table as well. Many screens above the bar let you watch the race or the game. Max behind the bar was quick with a refill or water. My friend promised top- notch oysters and clams and we chose a dozen of each. Oysters from the west coast were delicious and the clams were fresh and meatie. We chose to split the Philly cheese steak with fries and I'm glad we split it because I was supposed to have dinner at another friend's house. Parking is easy with their own lot but it's tight so they encourage you to pull up as far a possible to the bumpers. The snow left behind from the storm added to the tightness. This was my second-ever trip to Biggies. Both times I was very happy with my experience. I feel terrible that I was unable to take meaningful photos - however, grateful that the conversations I was engrossed in distracted me. Next time. The menu is varied enough to meet any dietary preference and/or palate. Service has been consistently outstanding. And I love the feel of the place. It's a pub/tavern - but nicer. I feel like I am "out to eat" while enjoying an elevated (yet comforting) pub/raw bar menu. We had shareables this time around. The calamari was crispy and fried perfectly. Rings only which is not my favorite, but probably plays better with the masses. The dipping sauces were mid-level at best. The "garlic aioli" was 99.99999% mayo only and the marinara was watery and burnt. Next time I will try the caper and pepper calamari. But the quality of the seafood will have me order again despite the meh sauces. The spinach and artichoke job was exactly what you'd expect. Lots of cream cheese. Enough spinach so it looked like it was in there. But nothing to write home about. We then got strip steak wedge salads (served with shredded iceberg?!?). Was good. Didn't realize it wasn't a wedge until my drive home. :). Steak was perfectly cooked. Had a good char and nice flavor. It sounds like I didn't enjoy my food. I did. It's just not special in any way, although it does no harm. I can imagine it's a lot of fun on weekend nights and/or before a Jets game. I'm hugely interested in trying their bowls on the back of their menu. The broccoli rabe bowl is absolutely going to be my next order. I don't drink alcohol so the food at places really needs to stand on its own for me. I'm interested in trying more. That should tell you something. read more

We lived near Biggies for many years and would frequent monthly. Since we've moved south we've yet to find a comparable place to the Biggies of old. We were in NYC last week and opted to pop in as we headed back to NJ for a late lunch. We went to some of our go-to menu choices and we were a bit let down honestly. White clam pizza - still good and loaded with ingredients but I would bet it shrunk by at least 2". Tuna tacos - plenty of ingredients and a decent sized serving but the tuna had that white line (unsure what it's called) that is inedible. My wife had to dissect each taco, cut the line out and reassemble them. Shouldn't the kitchen have done this instead? It's clearly visible. Seafood salad - again plenty of ingredients. But in previous times you'd get a nice medium sized shrimp. Now you get a handful of baby shrimp that don't have any flavor. The trip wasn't a complete waste although we were sad to see this out of biggies. read more

Five stars for over 10 years. This place consistently exceeds expectations. Steamed clams all day long and sop up that broth with extra bread. The rotation seasonal beer does not disappoint. My go to is the chicken portobello formaggio sandwich and my wife sticks to the garlic mozzarella ribeye sandwich. All around fantastic. They take online reservations which is recommended. This is one of the best places I have been for raw bar/shellfish in a long time. West & East coast shellfish taste so different so I had not been impressed with what I could get for a while until being introduced to Biggies. I'm downgrading from 3.5 stars to 2.5. Sorry, Been a fan since the original Hoboken "hole in the wall" place. Maybe it's a sign of what is currently going on in the restaurant biz. Smaller pieces of protein or cheese on a sandwich or a salad. $3 raw (bluepoint) oysters? OK I know we're never going back to $1\oyster Tuesday nights, but this isn't a high end place. The bread on the sandwiches is terrible. You need a good set of teeth to "pull off" a bite. ( Suggestion: get your sandwiches toasted or on garlic bread. I mean its still a good place to grab a decent meal, drinks, catch a sporting event on the TV in the bar. Service has always been (just) ok. Biggie's seems to be running on auto-pilot. It has that old school vibe to it, & it is a large venue. The lot is a shared lot, & it is VERY tight. Tonight, I got what I always get....Oysters. I do get other things here, but when no one can beat their oysters, there's no need to pass them up. For what it's worth, I also love the calamari here. I got the following oysters Oreganata, Rockefeller, Roasted, & Southern Fried, which is my absolute favorite. They all get A++, so no need for the grading. read more

Great spot for family dinners! Many families (including my own) has small children with them and the staff were wonderfully accommodating. We had broiled oysters as an appetizer and they were delicious. I also had a seafood pasta that was good, just needed a little more salt for my taste. I came here for a quick lunch. I got the chicken portobello formaggio sandwich. It is served with fries. The portion size is large and it's made with a nice marsala sauce. I was able to have a good amount for a leftover portion. Day 1 was just as good as day 2. It wasn't overpowered by the mushrooms so it was a win for me. The buttermilk chicken sandwich wasn't as impressive. They give you 2 big breaded pieces but it only has a fried taste. Without the dressing on the bread it would be pretty bland. I definitely wanted to try the wings but I didn't have time for the time it takes to prepare them. The service was quick orherwise. I've come here often in last few years and usually sit at bar. Last nights experience was not so good of what I've experienced in the past. Food was a bit bland I had the chicken and broccoli rabe with pasta. The pasta was non existent and it was in a bland watery broth. But I will say had the calamari was excellent. Bartender really looked like he didn't want to be there or be bothered with patrons. We had to actually ask for refills on our beers. Place is very nice and clean as always. I think a bartender should be a bit more friendly and be social with patrons not stand back and wait for an order for tables. This is worst experience at this place ever. read more

Love Biggie's. This was my second time at this fantastic establishment that has been around for over 75 years in Jersey( Hoboken). The food- five stars plus - delicious! NE Clam Chowdah- best I have ever had incl Cape Cod. Loads of clams, not fishy or grainy at all, perfect balance between potatoes, the clams and the soup. Fish n Chips( June 2022 - no longer on menu) - amazing, healthy pieces of fish. Love the fries. Salmon Teriyaki - loved the fresh salmon,just enough sauce; Excellent sautéed spinach. Rice was gorgeous. Fish Tacos( June 2022) - gorgeous, tasty, nice portion. Panko Crusted Cod sandwich - wow! Tasty fried fish, excellent bun. Side - potato wedges( extra $2) instead of fries were divine. Service - stellar - everyone I mean everyone was smiling, welcoming and just relaxed. Server Leigha was fantastic- attentive, quick, genuine and fun. The two managers ( male) who were by the kitchen were very cool and came over to say hello and then brought out the main entrees. The hostess was very sweet and accommodating. I love that a customer can experience the best of both worlds as soon they enter Biggie's - vibrant, fun and happening sports bar on the right and a mellow and chill dining area to the left. Love this place. From their seafood pasta, to wide selection of Oysters, and chicken wings. This place is not just your ordinary sports bar, but amazing seafood restaurant. I highly recommend the Seafood with Lobster Cream Sauce that comes with shrimp, scallops and mussels simmered in a homemade lobster cream sauce served over jasmine rice (I got it with pasta instead of rice). I met a friend at BIGGIE'S on January 3rd for lunch and the experience is always satisfying! BIGGIE'S is located at 430 Route 17 South in Carlstadt and today I had the Shrimp Avocado Salad ($29.25) along with a Iced Tea ($3). The interior is tastefully New Jersey with many pictures of Garden State icons and alike and the help is excellent as Camryn who served our meal was friendly and attentive to detail. Centrally located in South Bergen there menu is quite extensive and this is a great place to catch a game or stop by after going to Met Life. BIGGIE'S is a reliable place for lunch or dinner and a great sports bar venue. RECOMMEND. read more
