Valentine' day at Océanos Oyster bar and grill was amazing. We were seated in a very romantic fireplace area table for two. We started off with their samplers of Oysters so fresh and yummy, we then had their grilled octopus perfection if I must say . I had a Freaky lychee Martini-let me correct that 3 to be honest they were so good and refreshing. For our main meal I had seared sesame tuna basmati rice and these delicious veggies. For dessert we had a Ekmek -angel hair filo dough, vanilla custard, honey, toasted almonds, simply delicious and not sweet at all which I enjoyed very much. Typically when I have come here, I have loved the food, but we went recently and while the apps and dessert were really good, our entrees were just okay. The Tuna Tartare and Honey Sagnaki Cheese were delicious- the tartare was topped with crispy French fries, to balance the creaminess and softness of the rest of the dish, and the Sagnaki cheese was seared golden brown on the top and truly yummy. We both had specials for our entrees- my husband had the Snapper and I had the African lobster tail and 5 oz. halibut with sweet potato puree and asparagus. While I enjoyed the halibut, which was very tender, the lobster tail was chewy and maybe a tad overcooked, and the sweet potato puree was too sweet for my taste. The surprise dessert brought at the end; however, was really good. A light and creamy custard with some crunchy almonds on top, we really enjoyed it. We had a fantastic dinner last night at Oceanos. My wife and I made reservations for 6pm and upon arrival we were sat immediately despite the fact that the restaurant was packed with people. The place is very attractive with multiple rooms each beautifully adorned. The place gives off a steak house vibe with dim lighting and dark wood accents. The service was on point with our server doing a great job of explaining the menu and the drinks. We got fresh bread with olive oil and olives to start. We then received our drinks, both of which were delicious. Not too sweet and really well made, we each enjoyed 3 of them they were so good. The oysters were so fresh I truly enjoyed them, then we got the octopus! Wow that thing was so amazing I couldn't believe how much I loved it. It had some crunchy burnt edges but was so tender it melted in my mouth. So well seasoned I have to say it was by far the best I ever had. My main dinner plates were good but not great, they Scallops were tender but lacked a good sear as well as a little seasoning. The tuna dish my wife had was really tasty, in fact I liked it more than I expected. The ambience was amazing with people dining and enjoying themselves. We even met some nice people sitting next to us and enjoyed some good conversation with them. Overall a very nice evening with good food, great service and nice people. We were guided right away to our table. Drinks- they have an extensive selections of wine and liquor. But of course, we love our cocktails, so we had the Freaky Lychee and the Lambrusco Sangria. Food- extensive selection of menu choices. And of course, for appetizers we have to try their fresh oysters, the Mediterranean Spread which is an assortment of four varieties of spreads paired with pita triangles, tried the Shrimp Saganaki which is pan seared shrimps with tomatoes, peppers and crumbled feta cheese. For our main dish, we had the Sesame crusted Ahi tuna salad, the Mediterranean Salmon and their special of the day, potato crusted salmon topped with mango salsa. If you get anything here, get that. It's well balanced, crispy, chewy (in a good way), sweet, bitter, and has the flavor that is like someone's grandmas specialty dish that always knocks your socks off. The salmon was perfection. The portions were impressive with the glaze flavorful but just enough to allow the cut of fish to shine. The Chilean sea bass was a superb cut. I personally think there was a little toooo much sauce but still scrumptious. We had a side of lemon potatoes that were out of this world. If you know good Greek lemon potatoes, you know what I'm talking about. After trying to get his attention for a half hour, our senior waiter (Richie) intentionally gives us another table's check for a higher amount because he accidentally gave our check to another table (who paid and left). It was not only unprofessional but was highly dishonest. He tried to claim our bill was going to be the same amount. But when I asked for a menu so I could add up ask if the items, suddenly he goes and gets me a correct bill for much less money. Calamari was rubbery and lacked seasoning. Decided to stay on this side of the Hudson, for our date Night. Chose Oceanos, in Fair Lawn NJ at 25 minute ride from the house. It had great ratings...and it did not disappoint. Its in a residential neighborhood, in the middle of the block. The drive up appeal is great, and the interior was absolutely beautiful. The staff was very friendly, walking in the door. It was packed but Demitri took out coats and led us to a booth right away. I recognized the owner Pete, from the FB videos and he came over to say hello. Wonderful and warm, and calamari a fav appetizer of mine came over, compliments of Pete. Our waiter Gene, a 20 year employee was friendly and knowledgeable about the drinks, and menu. Started with the Shrimp Saganaki and a Caesar salad. Both were very good, with me having the shrimp and it was delicious. For dinner, it was hard to make a choice with some many excellent options. I was invited to Oceanos to celebrate my cousin's 40th recently. I had never been so was looking forward to going based on all the stellar reviews. I was so impressed with everything. Service was excellent and my glass of wine was magically refilled whenever I wasn't looking. The food was outstanding. At each table, we enjoyed various appetizers family style. What a great find! Oceanos is evidently an old Bergen County establishment, but I just discovered it. The ambience is spectacular. We were in the garden room with dripping wisteria and a glorious waterfall. The jazz music in the background was soothing. Our server, Kristen couldn't have been better. She even steamed the half n half for my tea which is a first. I've left the food for last, just to say everything was delicious and A+. I had a really nice meal here with my dad and his girlfriend. We sat out on the patio by the fountain, "the best table in the house" they told us. I got the tuna tartare, and it's perfect if you're looking for a small entree, quite tasty too. For a larger appetite, my dad enjoyed the miso glazed salmon quite a bit, and his gf really liked the yellowfin tuna. They really like the complimentary bread, but I didn't find it that special, in part because the olive oil that it was served with was unremarkable. We hosted a luncheon here recently for about 30 people. There was a perfect room available for that purpose which felt like we had the place to ourselves even though we didn't. For the appetizers, the menu had Fired Calamari and the Oceanos Mixed Field Green Salad. Both worked out very well. The main course was a choice of Pasta Primavera, Grilled Salmon, Chicken Franchese, and Shrimp Scampi. I personally had the Salmon - prepared with Mediterranean Tapenade, Vegetables, and Lemon Potatoes. I thought it was very good, and I heard no complaints from people getting any of the other dishes. The first time I went here was a good 14 years ago and back then it was fantastic and I continued going with my family as the years went on. The most recent time was around a year and a half ago and regardless of my palate evolving over time like others, the food still holds up and it can compete with any Greek fish spot in the city. For a drink, I had the humorously named "Call Me An Uber" which had bourbon, something sour, and Beaujolais wine which was strong as expected and tasty. Tuna tartare: Avocado, pignoli nuts, Persian cucumbers, pita chips, citrus ginger sauce. I believe this was a special and it was very tasty. High quality tuna with my only minor complaint being that there was too much ginger in the sauce. Nice presentation also. Dayboat scallops: Sautéed spinach, lemon potatoes. Perfectly cooked and very tasty. Ekmek: Filo dough, vanilla custard, honey, toasted almonds. This is my preferred desert here. Very tasty version with some nice tartness. Outside of these dishes, the Horiatiki is good in terms of salads. The grilled salmon, Dover sole filet, and seared tuna are good. They also gave me a birthday tiramisu which was good and very nice by the staff. There is also a surprisingly good steak for a fish place. Yes I'm partially bias about this place but I've been going here for ages and regardless the food here is almost always consistent and it's hard to go wrong.
