Went to Bar Mutz for my sister's birthday and overall had a great time. We did have to wait about 30 minutes past our reservation, which was a little frustrating, but once we were seated, the atmosphere was fun and energetic. The music was pretty loud, but it fit the vibe of the restaurant. The food was really good, and despite the wait, we enjoyed our experience. We'd definitely come back for a date night.
5+ Stars; My favorite restaurant in the realm of Chef Robbie Felice. Outstanding! Excellent service; Very cool urban ( Brooklyn-like) vibe & atmosphere. Kitchen view; Nice sized bar with all the good stuff; Excellent food and drinks! Big public parking lot next door. But keep in mind it doesn't come cheap. What looks (and is) very casual is still in Westwood ( an always evolving Foodie town). A true artisanal menu. I suggest you look at the menu and Google some terms because you're going to see some ingredients & foods that are not common place. Multiple types of Mozzarella ( and other cheeses) Home made pastas that you don't always see anywhere (no penne or spaghetti here!) Our group of four is infamous for ordering A LOT off the menu and sharing; No two like items here. Apps Choose a basket of one of the bread choices; Make sure you try some cheeses ( REAL Italian burrata and REAL Italian buffalo mozzarella from Italy here!) A MUST--Italian Stracciatella ( stringy & soft cheese like Mozzarella with house made Hummus in a Roasted Garlic Pinsa Romana that came with pita. Even the hot honey mozzarella sticks made a common item great. Entrees ( all good sized servings) and after all the yummy cheeses & Apps you can expect to have a take-home container. --I loved the Chicken & Sausage Cutlet Milanese Scarpariello with Rosemary; topped with cooked onions & peppers (not a old salad as one would expect with a Milanese. Amazing birthday dinner. Got two orders of the oysters, the mozzarella stick with caviar special, the mozz with prosciutto, the risotto special, the rainbow cookie dessert, and the butter cake. Everything was outstanding, especially the risotto. The butter cake was the superior dessert, so if you have to pick, get that one. Drinks were perfect. The stand out was the boozy cappuccino with amaretto. The foam gets above the rim, making it as picture-worthy as the above the rim espresso martini. Food came out quickly and service was fantastic.
From the outside? You'll never expect to see the amazing city like vibes they have waiting for you inside. There's Graffiti Art work everywhere, which makes you forget you're in a quiet town in New Jersey. Everything was so fresh and tasted so freaken good. You can tell they put pride into the dishes. Nothing was bland. The cheese?! Brooo it's DELICIOUS! Very acknowledged staff members, very inviting and cheerful. Pretty pricy for the area but you pay for the experience as well. I def need to come back.
I have been wanting to come here for a while now. My friend and I finally made reservations for a Wednesday night and it was still very busy. We got there at 5:30 and had seats at the bar. The vibe is cool very much like Pasta Ramen on the inside. Very trendy and cool. The music they were playing was top notch for any millennial. We started with thr fresh mozzarella and the mozzarella sticks. The fresh mozzarella was excellent the topped it with oil and fresh pepper. And the mozzarella sticks had a hot honey drizzled on them and more on the side. They both had excellent flavor and were very different so it was worth getting both. Then we shared the chicken Milanese with ceaser salad and the short rib pasta. The chicken portion was insane it was so big and so much salad too. The short rib dish although small was very heavy but very delish. Then for dessert we got the rainbow cookie dessert and the Samoa dessert. I was prepped that since I love a rainbow cookie I MUST get this dessert. It was to die for. The rainbow cookie was excellent and the ice cream also tasted just like a rainbow cookie with little cones that were filled with Nutella. And the. We got the Samoa cookie dessert. That was also excellent. I mean who doesn't love a Samoa cookie the flavor was so great. If you are thinking about coming here it a must!
This place is a vibe. Definitely a loud party inside. We chose to sit outside because it was amazing weather and we wanted to hear each other. Service was phenomenal I mean really top notch. The food was good and you get exactly what you expect.
Ultra cool vibe (love the graffiti on the walls and table). Drinks were great and food was delish! We had the burrata for an appetizer and got the focaccia bread to dip and titch - IYKYK!! For our entrees we had the fusilli in pesto sauce and Chicken Milanese (but it comes with Caesar salad). Huge cutlet! Everything was extremely tasteful and will definitely be back to try the desserts!
The decor inside is a retro vibe and cool atmosphere! The best experience is fresh mutts table side bite which is hand fed to you. It's warm, fresh and delicious. There is street parking or metered parking lot for parking. For food we ordered the fussilli and spicy rig for entree and both were cooked well and delicious. The fussilli is a fresh herby pesto sauce and creamy. The spicy rig had the perfect kick to it and we all really enjoyed this one. I would recommend both based on what you're craving. Also, we ordered the mozzarella sticks which had hot honey drizzled on them which gave it a nice touch to crispy fritters. For drinks we got above the rim espresso martini which was foamy, creamy and delicious. Yuz to it and mutz water which were also great cocktails. The waitress was attentive and checked in to see if we needed anything. Provides great suggestions on which cocktails to order and what popular on the menu.
I kept getting sponsored ads through Instagram so I was intrigued. I want to stay for at least a good six months. I have been wanting to come here. Finally my birthday hits and I tell everybody this is where I wanna go and it did not disappoint at all the only thing and I get it that it's an adult scenery and scene but the music was a little too loud. We were screaming at each other as we were talking, but the food excellent was not a disappointment at all from the appetizer to the dinner to the dessert. The dessert is like wow like I actually wanna go back to have another dessert from there and obviously have fresh mozzarella. The waitress was great. She explained everything to the tea. She also had this other gentleman. He was the one that did the mozzarella to our table. He was very sweet so I will tell you the staff was great. This is a very hip place for a younger crowd, but for an older crowd again the problem is the music is too loud, but I enjoyed every minute of the music I put it that way lol I hope you enjoy the pictures and make sure you get down there ASAP as a reminder this restaurant is not for children. You do have to make a reservation. They book things out only two weeks and if you do have kids, they have to be 14 and older. That is the only disclaimer that I will tell you that I learned when I was checking this place out have fun. Hope you enjoy my review and hope that you get a chance to definitely go and check this restaurant out and and what I forgot was the decor that made it so much even more amazing that you didn't even really feel like you were in a restaurant
Pretty average spot so really confused on all the hype. I've been to Pasta Ramen multiple times before and really loved it so I was excited to try chef Felice's new spot. We ordered the mozz and prosciutto to start which were good but just pretty standard. We ordered the spicy rig and fusilli as well as the chicken Milanese Caesar. Again all were pretty standard but really nothing out of this world. The decor was fun and the ambiance was cool. Our waitress was good. Probably won't come back but would def go back to pasta ramen for its uniqueness.
Ambience: 3/5 Food: - mozzarella sticks 4/5 - peach ricotta pinsa 2/5 - spicey rigatoni 2/5 - pesto fusilli 4/5 Drinks: - Hugo spritz was my favorite 5/5 - espresso martini 5/5 Dessert: -Butter Cake 4/5 Overall the prices were wayyyyy to elevated for the quality and ambience. It's trying WAY TOO HARD to be something it is not. I've had better. The winners were the staff at the bar. Nice gentlemen.
Ambience is lively and boisterous - perfect for a girls night out. Loud music playing early 2000s R&B hits (like Ashanti, Ja Rule. Jay-Z, etc..) so it felt like being transported to a millennial nostalgia party. Food is insanely delicious but heavy so this is a perfect place to go to with the big group so that you can try a little bit of everything, which is worth it to do because every item has such different creative flavors. Lots of options for both vegetarians and meat eaters. Decor inside is very unique and memorable compared to most restaurants in the area, giving a very industrial and cool aesthetic. Service was great, servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful in deciding how much to get and which types of different items to get to get a full range of flavors.
I think this may have been the best meal I've ever had. The restaurant itself is in a really cute area and the space is small but they utilize it well. The decor is fun and cool and the music was great. The service was excellent, our waiter explained every dish, everything came out quickly, and the presentation was very cool. The food was incredible and you could tell everything was very fresh and well thought out. Would give this 100 stars if I could!
It may sound crazy, but I have yet to find a really good pasta spot in NJ. NYC, no problem, but I don't always want to cross the river. I think I finally found a spot where I can confidently get good pasta AND dessert. My partner and I stopped in this week, and we were immediately met with cool, industrial-style decor and a BOMB playlist. The staff was super friendly and helped a lot with specials and recommendations, as it was our first time. For drinks, we started with a Fig & Melon cocktail and their Old Fashioned. Both were great, but I think the old-fashioned wins over the Fig & Melon. It's smoky and sweet, while the F&M was citrusy and refreshing. To start, we ordered the Mozzarella Sticks Di Bar Mutz with Mutz Hot Honey & Sour Milk. Personally, I am tired of hot honey on everything, haha, so this wasn't for me. If they served it on the side first vs drizzled on top, I probably would have enjoyed it more, as the mozz sticks alone were delicious. The breading was more like a garlic bread than the traditional coating. It also comes with extra hot honey on the side. For our mains, we shared the Spicy Rig and Trottole. Again, both are really good, but the Trottole was the CLEAR winner. The short rib was rich, and the overall dish was perfect for the savory lover like me. The Spicy Rig was lighter, and the bite of pasta with basil was excellent. For dessert, we ordered the mile high espresso martini, affogato martini, which had ice cream they make in-house, and the Samoas cheesecake. Every single thing was delicious! It's a good problem to have when you're dining somewhere, and you're battling it out for who has the best dish. Can't wait to come back and bring friends! read more
It was really hard to get a normal time reservation at this spot. But we managed to snag a bar top table And when we got there, we realized why it was so hard. The only have like 6 real tables at the restaurant. Vibes are cool. I like the open concept kitchen and the music was definitely on point. However , the food was mostly disappointing , I would say. The mozzarella delicious. Butter cake delicious. But all three pastas that we ordered were definitely not worth the price. I was really excited for the spicy rigatoni that I got and I asked the guy how spicy it was. And he said, 2 out of 10, but when I got it, it was definitely 0 out of 10 spicy. He said too many people complained about the spice level. So they dumbed it down, but it just tasted like tomato sauce with no spice at all. Unfortunate. There were a couple of other appetizers or things on the menu I would be willing to try, but I won't be running back to this spot anytime soon. Especially since it was a good distance away from me. read more

This was about my 7th time here! I went with my mom-friends, sat at a high top 4. We decided to try some specials tonight, 1 app and 2 desserts. We were not blown away by any of them unfortunately and I wish we would have stuck to what we knew! We started with mozz sticks, hummus and their special, whipped ricotta, diced peaches and jalapeño on bread. Peaches were not sweet and tasteless and the jalapeño was not spicy. I would pass on this. Other apps were great as always! Entrees: Trottole, Chicken Milanese Caesar and Cavatelli Sausage Ragú and Broccolini. All delish!! Now onto the 2 Special desserts. Upside down Fig cake with ice cream and pistachio crumble / pistachios - this could have been good but there was like no fig! And then the pistachios overpowered everything else. The cake and ice cream was good. 2nd dessert - Cookie milk sundae - a big No, this sounded great but it was like whatever, gelato with cookies and brownies. They made the gelato with cookie milk. They added brownies that were hard and dense - no one ate them and there were 4 squares of it. This was a big miss because it sounded good. We all wished we got the rainbow cookie dessert bc we know that one is great. Drinks are always great! Service was good! And the ambience is always a vibe - 90s hip hop and r&b. read more
A must try in Westwood that will not leave you disappointed! It was easy to get a reservation but they do fill up fast so make sure you have one before going. My only complaint is we were seated at the mozzarella bar which is high top seating so next time I reserved the dining area. It was definitely alot smaller in size than I had expected but it was well decorated. The music definitely needs to be turned down a few notches as I could not hear our server or my date during most of the evening. I really appreciated how our server took the time to walk us through the entire menu and give his honest opinions as it was our first time there. We started off with bottle spring water and a round of drinks, I got my usual Aperol spritz and my boyfriend ordered the vice city. My spritz was strong and it took me the whole meal to finish it. The vice city was good however we were disappointed that it was a liquid strawberry daiquiri with whipped cream on top. The menu could definitely have given a better description on that drink. We started off with a few appetizers: the mozzarella sticks di bar mutz, di Stefano burrata, and garlic pinsa romana bread. The mozzarella sticks with hot honey are an absolute must. We were actually fighting over each one because they were deliciously crisp and gooey on the inside. The di Stefano burrata was great and I'm so thankful our server let us know that it doesn't come with any type of bread so we ordered the garlic pinsa romana bread. I just would've liked more than 4 small pieces of bread to pair with the burrata but it was all flavor on point and a decent portion. For our mains we ordered two pastas and an entree to share: spicy rig, trottole, and the chicken sausage cutlet Milanese. I absolutely loved the spicy rig as it was the perfect portion to share, just enough sauce and basil, with the perfect level of spice. The trottole with short rib was an absolute favorite and I would probably order this the next time and time again. The short rib was melt in your mouth good, the pasta was amazing and topped off with this creamy salty cheese that I cannot remember the name of. The chicken sausage cutlet Milanese was good but I probably would not get it again. It wasn't bad just not something I enjoy where the sausage and chicken cutlets are combined together and the sausage peppers and onions were a lot. It was a great meal for sure. Just a very loud restaurant and since we were at the mozzarella bar we didn't have much table space for all our food. For our next trip I hope we have room to make it to dessert! read more

This is a super fun place to come with a group of friends or even just date night. The ambiance is fun and lively with the cool wall art and bar. The server was very friendly and gave us good recommendations. The food was delicious. I love the burrata and being hand fed fresh mutz was super fun. The spicy ragu pasta had a delicious sauce but I felt the pasta itself was a bit too al dente. I'd love to come try more things next time! read more
Lucky enough to celebrate my birthday here after wanting to come for a year! Not only is this place aesthetically amazing, it is absolutely delicious! My absolute favorite thing we tried was a special but I am hopeful they make it a permanent addition. It was focaccia bread with straciatella spread on it and shaved truffles on top. Chefs kiss! All the dishes were delicious but my next favorite was the short rib ragu. Creamy and cooked perfect. I also loved the chicken Milanese Caesar. The chicken was crispy and the Caesar salad was a perfect addition to all the heavy dishes we had. The above the rim espresso martini is a dessert in itself so I only had that as my dessert. The atmosphere was so fun. The decor is very cool and you can tell every detail was well thought out. We saw a few groups do the table side bite of mozz and I would recommend if you're going with a bigger group. The groups were having so much fun with that! We will definitely come back! read more
What a fun and delicious place! Drove over 45 mins to try this place out and it was worth it. We got at mozzarella where they make it in front of you and feed it to you to start. Then we each got two separate pasta dish's. They were so tasty and you could tell they were homemade. The highlight of the night was when the restaurant gave us a free appetizer and free dessert! They heard us talking about our drive and raving about the food and decided to gift us some free food! I can't wait to go back!!! read more

My first dining experience at Bar Mutz was everything I thought it would be and more! My friends and I ordered so many dishes because we wanted to try as much as possible. The service was excellent and our waitress delivered with some great recommendations. For appetizers, we ordered the table side mozzarella, mozzarella oysters, and hot honey mozzarella sticks. All were amazing. We loved that for the table side mozzarella, someone visited us on a cart and cut a fresh piece of mutz for us to eat. This was a fun experience. Most of us ordered the pasta dishes. We basically loved all of them. Another great choice was the chicken sausage dish. We then, of course, had to try dessert. We loved the rainbow cookies with ice cream and the butter cream cake with fresh berries. Great way to end a meal. You can't forget a top notch espresso martini. If you love pasta and mutz, then this is a no brainer to stop and dine! Can't wait to come back. read more

My friend and I decided to try this place out on a whim. There were no reservations available so we took a chance for bar seating. We had to wait about 15 mins but they have two small tables for those waiting for the bar to sit and get a drink - I thought this was a nice touch! I loved being able to see one of the chefs preparing one of the pastas. This shows that some of their ingredients are fresh and homemade. So YES the prices will be high but you can literally see them making it fresh. We both enjoyed our pasta dishes and the burrata, although disappointed the burrata was not served with any kind of bread. So you can say I'm on the fence with this place is a bit overpriced to you're getting quality for the price. We did see the table sized mozz being served: be warned: they hand feed it to you!!! No thanks. Overall the vibe is there - Late 90s/early 00s hip hop, good food, even better drinks & great service. I'll be back but with maybe some more money to spend. read more

Bar Mutz definitely lived up to the hype. As for the ambiance, it trends younger with its unique art and modern music. Love the vibes! The food, as it should be, was the best part though. The mozzarella sticks were flavorful and I dipped it in honey. So good. And the spicy rig is extremely unique in its flavor as well. In that it tasted a bit more meaty than your usual rigatoni vodka. The highlight was the chicken and sausage cutlet. OMG! It was bigger than my head and genuinely one of the best entrees I have ever eaten. The chicken and sausage were perfectly balanced with the peppers and unions. And the desert was also incredible. Rainbow cookie gelato and cheesecake was 10/10. The service was okay. Food took longer than I would've liked but was worth it for the incredible meal. read more

Amazing new spot located in Westwood NJ. The ambiance and vibes were so modern and really nice. The music was great. I highly recommend this restaurant. Getting reservations is a bit hard since they're so popular. read more
Finally had the chance to try this restaurant and it did not disappoint! We found out that on Mondays and Tuesdays they have their chicken parm special and it lived up to the hype! The service was fantastic, our waitress was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions! We started with 2 oyster orders bc it's 3 orders per order, one of my favorite dishes! Then we ordered 1 mozzarella stick with caviar on top (special), it was delicious and there was a generous amount of caviar! Then we got the mozzarella sticks on the menu, hot honey made that dish! We also got the beef crudo, my guy loved it! We got the focaccia bread also which was tasty but we already too much food so we could have done without bread order. For dinner we shared the short rib pasta and the chicken parm special which was served table side by Chef! Oh and the desserts were phenomenal, the somoa cheesecake was delicious but the butter cake was even better! Both are a must try! The bill was pricey, we did have the caviar mozzarella stick and the chicken parm special with a few drinks. It was definitely worth it for us! read more

Amazing meal. On the pricey side but this was the rare dining experience were everything was excellent and worth every penny. Server walked us through the menu and made some quality recommendations. Sat at the mozzarella bar and got to see the kitchen and prep area to preview what we'll try next time. read more

Reservation only. There is a very small, limited number of walk up seats (8-10) at the cocktail bar only, but they fill up very quickly.
