Solid dinner experience at Lanni's! My friend and I had tickets for a local play at 8:00 PM so we made a 5:30 PM reservation at Lanni's. To my surprise, by 6:00, this place was hopping! Classic and inspired cocktail list. Very Italian-forward. We pretty much ordered our appetizers and entrees off the specials menu, because why not? The prosciutto and melon was by far the best we've ever had. The beef carpaccio was melt-in-your-mouth amazing. The bolognese was heavenly, and the lava cake was sinfully delicious. Four of us went Saturday night. First time there, but I'll definitely go back. We started with a cocktail at the bar, Kenny a true mixologist. He makes a real martini, not one of the junior ones that I see all the time. Super frigid with little pieces of ice, yum and three olives There were people eating at the bar, and the wife and I will definitely be doing that. We saw this beautiful appetizer, and we had to order it 2 large shrimp and some lump crab with huge pieces of crab, served with a nice cocktail sauce and a horseradish sauce. The apps and salads are huge, so you'll need to share. For mains we had the crab cake, eggplant parmigiana, pasta with sausage and I had the soft shell crabs, my favorites. Fantastic dinner experience! I was here with a group of 10 girls and the staff went above and beyond for us. All of the food we had was great: calamari, squid ink pasta, duck, etc. the cocktails were also on point. The ambiance is lovely. Perfect for a date or a girls night out. tried this spot out, very cute and friendly vibe. we did wait a bit for our server to put our drink order in but we got there as a bunch of other tables so, no worries.. our waiter was a delight very pleasant and knowledgeable of the menu we went there with another couple.. we shared rice balls, calamari, the thin sliced beef ( I forgot the name) with the egg pickles and mustard that was very good and the clams...for main course I got veal parm, big veal, small amount of pasta, also at the table the duck, another veal with the arugula on top, a fettuccine special and linguine and clams. I had to opt for the veal as there was no chicken parm which I found quite strange, anyway it was alright, very expensive for what it was, we shared the cheese cake and rum cake ( I did not care for either) our bill with the tip was $884 .. which was wild to me, as for what we got I did not find this price tag to be worth it, I will never complain about a bill if the food is top tier ( not the case here) ..I decided to write this review because I was a little disappointed especially with the bill, but more so because after that, my husband and I were SO sick, all night long.. we shared all the same things ( except our entrees ) I was vomiting and had severe* stomach pains all night long! still having them as I am writing this review. After being seated by their very welcoming hostess in a cozy, dimly lit room, our warm waiter Fernando started us off with a sweet, delicate eggplant caponata for the table accompanied by a glass of Prosecco and a dry Montepulciano, just the way I like it. We split a golden & red thinly sliced beet salad, topped with a fluffy, superior quality ricotta (not goat cheese) and a sweet & syrupy balsamic vinegar. Our entrees were a stuffed artichoke which my wife, who has eaten them homemade all her life and in Italy, said it was as good as it gets! My dish of pappardelle with meat and a light ragu sauce was delicioso. Our wonderful waiter read a list of desserts but we usually have an afogato of espresso over vanilla ice cream. Talk about a hidden gem in a town busting with culinary delights! I am not sure how I didn't realize an authentic Italian restaurant was missing from Sparkill but, I don't know how this town survived without it! Saturday night this sure was the place to be! You are greeted with valet service for your car so you can immediately get out and start your culinary journey. The bar is small and quaint but full of life and amazing drinks! The decor is elegant and stylish making you feel like you transported to a bustling high end restaurant in Italy. The food was cooked to perfection! The eggplant appetizer was as literally the best eggplant dish I have ever eaten in a restaurant. I wish I took more pictures but I guess you will just have to go try for yourself! Yes the place is tiny and tables on top of each other but its brings charm to this place. Started with a raviolo omg wow this was so amazing watching the egg just ooze out is worth the dish . On a bed of carbonara sauce. Truly one best apps i ever had. Tried the 3 different types of arancini balls. Have to say the squid ink one was the best. They could been more crispy. I ordered the lobster fra diavolo. The lobster was huge and cook perfectly. The bed of Spaghetti was dry and flavorless. Wife had chicken Scarpariello and she loved it. Bones removed with 2 links of sausage,potatoes with cherry peppers. It was a great dish. Very different than most places . My buddy ordered the porterhouse for 2 but for himself. Very enjoyable evening in hot new trattoria serving up very good food and fun. Eggplant appetizer was exceptional as was our beet and buffalo milk ricotta salad. My wife's pasta and seafood however was way over the line in being over seasoned. Seems like a clear case of line cook or chef not tasting their own cooking. My pappardelle was very good. The food is delicious and very well prepared. The service was a little spotty. After finishing our drinks, server just quickly took the glasses before we could order another. Difficult to get water refills. Lanni's is very intentional and servers look to be older and experienced. There's kinda a Goodfellows vibe to the place which I enjoyed. However I personally like a quiet dining experience which this was not. It's loud, crowded and you are literally squished into your seat. However most of the guests are fun and lively and very good natured which enhanced the experience. I don't want to be too negative. This is a lovely restaurant. The food and drinks were above par. FABULOUS for Rockland County. I will go back and give it another go around. The items on the menu are interesting and inviting. A Sparkill delight! We were excited about having a new restaurant in the area and so booked Lanni's for a group of ten old friends - five couples - who were getting together from all over the US and Canada for the weekend. It is not easy to please ten people, at least eight of whom are real global foodies, but Lanni's did it! The food was excellent, the wine choices wide, and the waitservice was attentive and informative. We had a lot of fun with our server, Joe, but all the staff were really helpful and friendly. In our group, we had the veal, the lamb chops (wonderfully tender), and other entrees which were delicious but the biggest hit was the branzini, which was fabulous. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Absolutely melted in the mouth. The two beet salad appetizer was also delicious We were not as impressed with the desserts - tried the baba au lemoncello and were a bit disappointed, but Joe made it up to us by providing samples of the great home-made lemoncello (the chef's mom's recipe) to drink. Lanni's has an old fashioned wall-papered elegant ambiance and is pretty small, which creates a cozy atmosphere. But that also makes it fairly noisy when it is full. There is valet parking behind the restaurant (which used to be a preschool, I think) The tiny town of Sparkill has, to the surprise of we locals, become quite a great place to eat out and Lanni's has just upped the ante. And of course, not trip to Sparkill should go without a walk to ponder the gigantic sculptured head of David next to the sidewalk! read more

We dined during the week so that it would not be overcrowded. We expected the service to be exceptional, but it was average. The wine list was the most expensive I have seen outside of Michelin 4 stars in NYC so we opted for a glass. We both ordered the special of the evening which was lobster and pasta. The lobster was tough and the sauce was nothing special. I did expect special with those prices. My husband and I visited LANNI's on Fri for a drink. The space is very cozy and charming. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. We sat at the bar and met the owner Lanni. He walked around and introducing himself to customers which we found to be old school. This place is like a piece of Naples in the middle of Sparkill. He was very welcoming and offered us an appetizer. He told us on Sundays its traditional pasta and meatballs dishes. We are definitely coming back for some traditional food. I was surprised for my birthday by my wife. This restaurant is very small and you need reservations. The food was Very very good. We both are Italian and this Italian restaurant, was fantastic. We started with an artichoke appetizer that was delicious. My wife had the pappardelle Ghizzano and I had the rigatoni a la Matriciana. Both were great, And finished with Tiramisu for two. Food was good buy pricey for the quality. The wine prices are absurd. There is a bottle for $1200. Least expensive is north of $50. The noise level is not for intimate dining. It is loud and you can join multiple conversations. Tables are small and hard to have room for everything. Service is too attentive. My review can best be summarized as "Unimpressive + Grossly Overpriced = Meh". A disappointing dining experience for quite a number of reasons. I joined 4 companions here on a Saturday night. As I took the second sip of my drink, the maitre d' (not the waiter) appeared at our table. He ran through the specials and the first four which could be ordered as an appetizer or entree had lobster. (Uh oh, the first red flag.) This is a well worn revenue generating ploy in the restaurant trade: the "lobster" ingredient justifies charging a very high "hidden" price (the price is often not displayed anywhere) without delivering much of anything more than an ordinary dish flavored with a few small pieces of lobster. The fifth special pushed hard by the maitre d' was (Surprise!) a lobster-seafood platter supposedly to be shared by all five of us. (Who gets what on the platter?) This seafood dish allows the same trick; no idea is given about the price point but an exorbitant price becomes justified. The maitre d' then pushed hard on ordering an "Amarone" not on the wine list as the best wine to pair with these specials. (Uh oh, a second red flag.) An unlisted Amarone allows the restaurant to justify an exorbitant charge. Then the maitre d' wanted to take orders right then. (Uh oh. The third red flag.) "The Rush" turned out not to be the motive underlying the "con job" played by this restaurant (a harsh but accurate term here). The maitre d' was told that we needed time to look at the menu. He clearly didn't like getting rebuffed by experienced diners. Five minutes later, the maitre d' (not the waiter) popped up again to take orders. We ordered three appetizers and five entrees. Appetizers were easy and simple dishes: basic clams casino, sardines, and "spaghetti pie" (ordered out of curiosity). Entrees were similarly easy and simple: two mini-T bones, tuna (described as sushi grade to be seared with a rare center), "coniglio" (braised rabbit) and fettucine alla cinghiale (wild boar). As the maitre d' took our orders, he again pushed the Amarone though that varietal didn't pair well with some of the dishes. He then "shoved" at us one order of the lobster ravioli special "for the table to taste" and promised "you will love it". (A fourth red flag.) Was this "on the house" or "added to the bill"? One companion relented to the suggestions. The same companion ordered the Amarone recommended by the maitre d'. The clams casino #1 - #4 were properly made, thoroughly cooked, but tasteless (i.e., not fresh); clam #5 was "bad" (spoiled). The remainder were left alone. I tried one sardine; it wasn't fresh, way too fishy, and so I left that alone. The "spaghetti pie" was tasteless and wasted calories. The lobster ravioli "for the table" turned out to be two small bread plates with one generic ravioli on each that had 3-4 teaspoon sized pieces of lobster on them. The Amarone was brought to the table by the maitre d'. It was a 2020. Amarones should be aged 6-7 years at a minimum to be served. When a companion said that he thought that we would be getting a 2017, the maitre d' told him, "I will take it back to the kitchen, pull out my magic marker, and change the 20 to a 17." An extraordinary insult to a paying customer that was gratuitous and unprofessional. It was grounds for diners to refuse to pay the bill and walk out. But I wasn't paying for dinner, so I remained silent. So did my companions who just looked at each other. Entrees were similarly problematic. The T-bones were quite good; medium rare as ordered. But the tuna - a large steak - was anything but sushi grade since it was relatively well done with a small, faint pink center. (Was this steak thawed frozen tuna? It wasn't a good sign.) The coniglio was not stewed until it broke apart as it should be served. The meat was riddled with the fine bones when it should have fallen off the bone during cooking. An unexceptional dish. The fettucine alla cinghiale was odd. The dense chunks of meat were not "wild boar" (either pork tenderloin or shoulder). The homemade fettucine and tomato sauce was very good, but the meat not being tender was disappointing. A mediocre dish. Two desserts were shared with espresso. The tiramisu was too wet; pedestrian at best. The ricotta cheese cake looked squashed; it had little taste. The espresso was good at least. What was exceptional was this restaurant's bill: $945 pre-tax and tip. The Amarone was $150; it sells at retail for $37 (a 400%+ mark up). Otherwise stated, the price point is $237 per person. A con job. Very high end restaurants on NYC's UES, e.g., Nico, run laps around this place x 10 with food and service and charge far less (a recent multi-course dinner for two was $365). Lanni's Cucina made all the wrong moves. It is all about generating maximum revenue out of its customers while delivering little value. Avoid it. Joe read more

It's a pretty place, but, it is SO LOUD that everyone is screaming to be heard. The foursome next to us literally yelled at each other, simultaneously, through the entire meal. So loud the waiter brought me two wrong drinks because he just couldn't hear. For that alone, won't go back. Take a two less tables, don't pack people in so tight that you can't get up from the tables. I get it bodies are money. My crab cake was one of the best I have had, top in Rockland County for sure. It's small, I think about 40 seats, yet I saw about 6 servers, a Somm, and the owner, Mr Lanni, on the floor greeting and mingling with guests. I am Italian and hate seeing the same BS, old school standard Italian food. This is real eclectic regional food. Simple but incredibly delicious, and top quality ingredients. The Foie/Scallop/Lobster dish was insane. We had a special tasting of a few pasta dishes, one better than the other. The beet carpaccio thin sliced beets, ricotta, the prosciutto de Parma. Omg. i've tried every decently rated Italian restaurant in Bergen county and there's little question of Lanni being top-rated--superior. The quality of their food is excellent. The preparation is also excellent. Normally my wife and I would eat in New York City four nights a week before spending the winter in Florida, and part of the summer in Parris, so hopefully there will be more restaurants like Lanni coming into the area. Lanni's is special. I've eaten at the best restaurants in Manhattan and Chef Vittorio and his son go toe to toe. Sparkill got blessed with this one.
