Stopped in for my second time at Five Dimes for a line dancing class and it was fun! Though, a little chaotic to get to the bar for a drink once I gave up on dancing. The bartender seemed more interested in watching the women dance rather pouring drinks which was lame. My first time coming to Five Dimes was last summer and we came on a Saturday to hang out with a group of friends. I'm not a huge beer drinker so I opted for the cider which was okay. After the first one, they all start to taste good, right? Anyway, talking to my beer drinker friends that were with me and they didn't exactly love what they were drinking either. I love the concept of a brewery in Westwood - especially a location that has a rooftop where you can hang during the warm weather. Had tried their brews first at a beer tasting event at the Liberty Science Center and liked it so much I wanted to try more and check out their brewery! The space is quite large, with seating both indoors and up on the roof. The staff was friendly and efficient. There was a live band on a Friday night which was great and it wasn't too packed inside. Great assortment of beers from IPA's to lagers and a fun vibe inside. Surprised my hubby for his bday with a small crew of 11. We ordered pizza from next door, sat upstairs on large couches and secured a nice table. We had a great time. Kid friendly during the day. Adults only from 8pm on. The band, The Exits, played live and they were fantastic!! We ordered a few flights to start off with. All of the beers were great! the upstairs was excellent for our group and the downstairs was convenient by the bar. i hear they have a rooftop during the summer months which I am drying to come back for. Terribly rude staff on multiple occasions. If the space wasn't cool I would have blown this place off the first time they were rude. They used to have a lady bartender that was lovely, but the guy that has been consistently there is just bad. Shopping long the avenue and we stopped in for a beer. I had the Fruited Sour and it was yummy! I wasn't led astray when I asked if it was sour but not very, and the bartender told me it's not very sour. She said I like sweeter too. Indeed it was delicious! There are large tables, small tables, stools at the bar, and a fireplace area to sit. Great place for a party. People stopped in and brought food to sit and eat and drink. This place has been on our list for a looooong time. My husband and I stopped in on a rainy Sunday afternoon. It was packed and loud. Despite it being busy we were able to order and received our drinks quickly. We found an empty table near the fireplace and it was a bit quieter there. We tried 4 different beers and all of them were great Marzen Pumpkin Fest Bier Valley Hefe I wanted to take Valley Hefe home but they didn't have any in cans. We will definitely be back ! I loved the structure of the bar with the second floor lounge. The live music was played really well with the band playing really great songs. I've been back a few times since my first review. The place itself is great, and they've added more entertainment like open mic night on Monday and line dancing on Sunday. But the beers? I stopped by Five Dimes Brewery on Saturday night and I had a fantastic time. From the moment I got out of my car I was greeted by a few guys dressed in costumes and they were so welcoming it made me feel I was at home. The crowd was was jubilant and truly enjoying themselves. Wow what a bar! It was the last thing I was expecting since the place is located in such a quiet neighborhood. The beer was good and the music was exciting with the crowd singing along and dancing to the tunes. The place has a roof top where people were hanging out and overlooking the street where numerous people were hanging out and listening to the band. Inside the servers were attentive and serving up their craft beer quickly and efficiently. This place is an awesome spot where you can make some friends and enjoy yourself. Five Dimes is a solid spot. We've enjoyed going there for a drink and seeing bands play. I love that you can bring your own food to enjoy. It has pretty ample seating, and the rooftop bar is so nice on a spring, summer or even fall day or night. I can only give 3 stars though, because I had a terrible service experience. To preface, when I opened my tab, they never requested to keep my credit card or ID. It was a busy night and I wanted to close my tab. A woman asked for my name and then took my credit card and said she was going to give it to her colleague to close. She seemingly forgot what she was doing within a 5 minute span, and started serving other drinks. I waited about 5-10 minutes, thinking that maybe they were going to get to closing my tab soon. I was trying to be understanding that it was a really busy night. I got her attention again, and she seemed to act as if she had never seen me before--and asked me for my name. I explained to her that she already had my card, and can she please close my tab. She proceeded to look through the box where they keep cards or IDs (not sure which) in alphabetical order and couldn't find my card (which was on the counter where she left it for her colleague originally). We proceeded to go back and forth--she was confused and thought I closed my tab and I was confused because she wouldn't go check to find my card on the counter and close my tab. Then, there was a man who worked there who also came up to talk to me, kind of annoyed that I was occupying her time with this. He spoke with her and then with me, again seemingly annoyed with me. Finally, I got my card back and my tab closed after a long 20 minutes. Before this, I never had a bad experience, and I have enjoyed my time and their beer. Just be weary about them closing your tab in a timely manner and not misplacing your credit card. read more

Beer is just ok but this is a gem for Westwood. What they did with the place is awesome with many seating arrangements available: bar seating, high tops on the first floor, tables on the mezzanine, high tops on the second floor, picnic tables on the rooftops and sidewalk outdoor tables. Service was so welcoming and friendly. They don't have food but there are so many options within walking distance (Pompeillos, Westwood prime, BBQ wings, etc). Parking lot in the back with a back entrance available. They have an elevator to get upstairs. High chairs available for the little ones but no changing tables. Too early and too hot to turn in for the night, I sought out a brewery and landed at Five Dimes. They do not have food so they encourage people to bring stuff from other restaurants. Despite being a brewery, Five Dimes is definitely a family sort of place. Lots of kids about, shouting and playing games with their kids. It is a huge space with seating on three floors plus outside and even with all that, it's still a bit rowdy. Which is perfectly okay with me. I took my beer and my dinner to the "mezzanine" level where I found a power outlet so I could charge up the laptop and the phone while people watching and writing a few Yelp reviews. Excuse the typos, as I enjoyed two of their Pascack Pilsners. Great big space, great food and yep, there are plenty of restaurants within walking distance to get food. I had heard great things about the cool Five Dimes Brewery, so I thought it would be fun to check it out on a recent trip to the area. The place was huge!! The main floor had several large tables and the bar, while the second floor housed couch sections for groups, and the rooftop had both indoor and outdoor options. We were able to bring snacks with us, and we grabbed seats at the bar to enjoy them with a tasting flight. We sampled the following: Sunny Day IPA - classic IPA with a robust mouth feel Lo Cinco Shandy - refreshing, but needed more lemonade flavor Watermelon Cinco - Mexican lager with the perfect amount of watermelon Hazy PIace IPA - crisp, with notes of tropical fruit All of the brews were enjoyable, traditional expressions of their beer types. The brewery also offered various seltzers, which I saw were flavored by the same syrups that were often added to coffee beverages. I would have preferred more natural flavors, which is why I skipped those. Been here a few times- IPA's have come a long way and once in a while they have a DIPA. Its a 3 level brewery but top level isn't always open but has a nice rooftop area with picnic tables etc. It can get busy and usually only a few bartenders but always helpful and doing what they can. Have carryout beers as well which is a great option but should be cheaper then buying at bottle king or wegmen's and sometimes it isn't. No food option which is fine as plenty of places in Westwood are benefiting from their presence and crowd of beer drinkers with no food to order on site. Need some more local bands like Rock Road and the Racquet to get some more life in the place but overall a decent place. The beer isn't Treehouse, Trillium or OH Level but blows away Magnify, Brix and Ghost Hawk. Give them a shot - it won't disappoint. read more

Cool place. We've been wanting to try this Brewery for a while now, finally did with a few friends. The place is really cool, very open layout. The rooftop seating is cool, lounge area is relaxing and the bar area is inviting. Great place to hang out with friends, enjoy a beer and play cards, a board game or listen to live music, when it's scheduled. We did try to order some different brews, but a lot of them where not available, Unfortunately! Decided to try a flight sampler. Not bad, interesting tastes. The best brew we think was the Sunny Daze. We will definitely be back with our own food on a live band night. read more

LOVED Five Dimes! The space is huge and impressive. It's got multiple levels with plenty of bars and seats, but the main attraction is the huge rooftop space. There is a solid amount of seating, so it's not hard to snag a table either. They have a pretty large selection of beer, and everyone in my group enjoyed everything they ordered. No food is served (per NJ brewery laws) but you can of course bring in anything to eat that you'd like. I was a little frustrated that water bottles were on sale for $3 on the rooftop, but also discovered a free water cooler downstairs on my way out. Next time! Because of all of the space it's a good spot for kids. We had three 1 year olds with us and they were all able to roam around freely. The rooftop has a low ledge which initially looks scary for kids, but there are windows that go up very high so it felt safe. I wish we had a brewery set up like this in Morristown! For now, it's a great spot to hit up in Westwood when I'm visiting some friends who live locally. Cheers! read more

The variety of beers and snacks is still lacking and the only reason we ever come here is because it's local and is open till late I would much prefer to go to Pearl River and go to the defiant brewery instead. read more

Yesterday around 1pm I drove passed the brewery to see I COMPLETELY PACKED! I called up a friend and we met there a couple hours later to find out that it was their "soft opening"! Everything here was amazing! The staff is great, and very accommodating. They all know wheat they're talking about when it comes to beer, which is always helpful. They have super flavorful IPA's. As someone who isn't always a fan of stouts, we loved it! We ordered a couple of beer flights before deciding on which beer we wanted. Always a great move. There is a dangerous trend with breweries in Bergen county focusing on sweet beers using fruity arrangements or lactose to provide flavor. Rejoice. This brewery has decided to make good beer. I wish I had read the reviews about this being like a Chuck E Cheese with beer. They don't serve food. They only serve beer. Why are there a million kids there on a Saturday night? And not just kids. Running around, knocking into adults, spilling beers, taking bar seats. I almost tripped over a toddler who was loose and on the run. At 830pm on a Saturday in a brewery. Sure there's a shuffle board - full of children. Couldn't even get upstairs as there was an entire sports team of kids from Washington Twp playing on them. Idk maybe I'm naive thinking a place that ONLY serves alcohol would have a 21+ rule. Nope. Saturday night and unattended kids causing chaos. We drank our $9 beers while shouting over yelling kids, then we left. I guess I'd recommend this place ONLY if you're a parent that likes drinking and doesn't want to pay for a babysitter. Why bother when you can let your kids run free at a brewery. You enjoy your beers moms and dads, those kids are other people problems now!
