What an excellent spot! I've been here a few times - both for just drinks and most recently for dinner. The vibes here are excellent - the space is beautifully decorated, clean, and the outdoor patio is gorgeous, especially in the summertime. The cocktails are all extremely creative and delicious (although I do think a little on the weak side). The last time I was here was for a birthday dinner. We were a large party of 8 women, and all the staff was very accommodating towards us. The food/drinks came out quickly, and they even gave my friend a big ol' birthday celebration complete with a firework candle and a light-up sign. The food is pretty decent - Spanish and Hispanic mostly, with a Caribbean flair. Standouts were the coconut shrimp (which came on a clothes hanger), the steak and tostones, and the ropa vieja. The only real downside of Don Coqui is the price of everything. The bill (with a 20% tip added for a large party) was just shy of 600 dollars, and this was for a table of appetizers and cocktails. Also, the valet parking for 15 dollars is wild, especially when there is a free lot available mere steps away. if you're feeling a little bougie, this is a great spot to grab a drink and get some great photos! read more

Here is the good, the bad, and the ugly regarding Don Conqui. First, the location is spectacular with stunning views of upper Manhattan and the Hudson River. While there is valet parking at $15, we opted to park right outside the entrance in the Target parking lot. The location is truly special In the distance you can see the George Washington bridge and one feels like on vacation. When making reservations you can request an outdoor seat which is highly recommended if the weather is good. The only downside were the occasional jet skis buzzing close by. Also, the music outside was not as loud as inside and one can have a conversation without yelling. Enzo our server was very polite and attentive. Jay the manager came around to check on us a couple of times. The food ranged from ok to vey good. The rice in both entrees was a little dry and in need of a bit of seasoning. The dessert (coconut flan) was awesome in terms of presentation and taste. Despite the awesome location, good service, and generally good food, the bill was a little pricey for what we had. Great experience at Don Coqui. There is valet parking but I parked in the target driveway and just walked over. The location is on the water and super beautiful and clean. We had a reservation and got our seats quickly. We went to see the World Cup final and unfortunately there was only one large screen on the lawn area in front and we weren't able to see it well from our table. A DJ was playing as well so we were unable to hear the game. The music how we was great and he played Latin music - both new and old. Great playlist. To start the drinks were all great although a bit on the sweet side. It was rather busy so drink took a minute and water was also not refilled as quickly as I would have liked. Food was amazing! Everyone loved their dishes. The oxtail was amazing and super tender and flavorful. The white rice with maduros eeew great and the side of black beans. The flan was such a beautiful presentation. There was vanilla ice cream and some cream on top. The cream was a bit sweet so I didn't love that part but the flan itself was great. The only downside was how full I felt after the dinner. Love this restaurant! I went for dinner, and the atmosphere was very lively and celebratory. The interior décor is beautiful, with bright lighting and a vibrant ambiance. They do fun birthday celebrations with your name displayed, sparklers, and music, which makes it even more special. The food was delicious. We had the lobster and crab cake empanadas, which were amazing, along with the jerk chicken, plantains, and seafood rice with lobster. Everything was flavorful and well prepared. The service was excellent--our waiters were attentive, and the managers walked around greeting guests, which was a nice touch. The place is perfectly located for an amazing view. The restaurant itself definitely needs some renovations, seeing portable AC everywhere was not appealing also it was dark. First thing I want to mention is there is valet parking which they charge for and to me should be complimentary when everything else is so expensive. However you can park by the Target for free and walk down. The waiting area to be seated was very tight, people were standing almost on top of each other. We were seated fairly quickly for our reservation, which was a plus. The waitress came around and greeted us. I was given a broken water glass, which was corrected. The menu items are as is on the weekends no substitutions allowed. The crabcake app was good had good flavor to it, along with the chicharrón app that came with 3 tostones and guac. For my meal I ordered the rum glazed pork chop that came with a side of spinach and mashed potatoes. For starters the pork chop was well cooked not hard or dry but the glaze was too watery, and no real flavor just a slight sweetness. The spinach had no salt just sautéed with minimal garlic and the mash was ok. I tasted my friend's coconut green rice which also lacked flavor and her spiced salmon had no spice. My favorite item of the night was dessert. The guava bread pudding was delicious and I would return just for that. The 3 layer chocolate mouse cake was regular. This restaurant is perfect to celebrate an occasion because they hype you up have the signage and music. This is my second time at his location , even tho the food is spectacular and the waiters are very good , I think they need to seriously address reinforcement on the dress code . I feel like this is an up scale environment with a great view , vibe and ambiance. However I can't help but to notice on both of my visits that some people are poorly dressed , it's like going to a gala party wearing sweat pants . It just kills the whole vibe of the place . That should certainly be addressed by management. Aside from that the hostess should be a little more friendly as well as they are your post card when people walk in the door . The views were great, I'll give it that and the vibes are fun if you're there with a group. The food was kind of disappointing. I got the oxtail and it was so salty! The service overall was decent, they put a sign on the table for the birthday person and at the end of the meal (or during dessert), the staff come by with a light up sign and sparklers to celebrate. The manager even came by the wish the person a happy birthday at the end. Overall, it was a nice experience, but not somewhere I'd go often or recommend. There was loud music playing throughout, along with a party-like ambiance. I had a bit of a tough time deciding what to order, but finally went with the Steak and Onions, served with rice and beans, along with maduros. No substitutions were allowed. The Steak was a generous portion, with plenty of caramelized onions. Steak was delightfully juicy, tender, and well seasoned. The Maduros were placed with the rice, which was nicely made. Maduros were soft and slightly sweet. In addition, I got to taste the Seafood Paella, featuring lobster and shrimp. This dish was the most impressive looking! The rice was perfectly cooked and bursting with bold flavor. Lobster was succulent with creamy sauce. Also tried the Tostones with garlic sauce. Tostones were satisfyingly crunchy, but a bit on the bland and dry side. The garlic sauce helped with that. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. We arrived on time and were told there was no wait, but were asked to step to the side while they prepared a table. There is no waiting area, so we were left standing awkwardly in the middle of the aisle, which I really didn't like. For a large restaurant, this felt unorganized. Seating is very tight. Tables are extremely close together and very small--the menu barely fit. You genuinely feel like you're sitting on top of other guests, which took away from comfort. Our server, Esther, introduced himself immediately and brought waters right away, which was good. Service was quick overall, and he was knowledgeable about the menu. I let him choose my first drink--the passion fruit mojito, which was well-balanced and refreshing but very light on alcohol. The Sexy Island drink was much more flavorful and stronger, and the Cabernet was good. However, one of our sides was forgotten, and later an order of parmesan fries never came out at all. We had to ask for it to be removed from the bill, which is unacceptable at this price point. Food was decent but not memorable. Went to see the Knicks Game 3 due to the advertisement on Social Media and that was the WORST DECISION! Only heard sound for the pre game show then projector went blank for about 10 mins right when game started! (screen stated something about paying for subscription) which should have been done prior to the game. Once projector came back on there was no sound for the whole entire game! Also Tv inside by front bar had no sound also and no other TVs were inside! DJ just ended up playing music extra loud all night! A lot of upset customers! Wasn't offered anything for the inconvenience not even an apology! Owner only went to the tables that were complaining! The views and scenery were beautiful and nice layout. The pink and white cushion seats along the sides were dirty (didn't get a pic) and needs to be cleaned. Bathroom was clean but the stalls can be updated. Food was decent.. nothing that really shocked me. I ordered Yuca Crab Cake, Shrimp Tempura Roll, two Red Sangrias which were pretty good and a Sparkling Water. Overall, if you're looking for a place to watch the game look elsewhere. We were better off going to Outback steak house right next door. To start we were seated pretty quickly without the entire party present. The service at the door was nice and the vibe of the restaurant was great as well. The shrimp could have been cooked a little more but overall it was pretty good. Ropa Vieja - This was cooked well. The meat was cooked and well seasoned. Drinks: We ordered several different drinks. I ordered regular margaritas with ginger beer and at one point received tequila with ginger beer. The server, Natalie, was really pleasant and helpful in making any corrections with the meals and drinks. We came to Don Coqui in Edgewater to celebrate a friend's birthday. I used to visit their White Plains location years ago, so I was excited to try this new spot. The restaurant itself is very nice, with beautiful waterfront views that make it a great setting for a celebration. Our group of 10 did the pre-fixed package ($49.99 per person, not including tax and tip), which included an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. The appetizers were tasty, but honestly not quite enough for the size of our group. The drinks, however, were excellent, and the entrées didn't disappoint. I had the skirt steak with potato salad and black rice, and it was flavorful and well-prepared. Desserts wrapped up the meal nicely. The wait time was not that long considering it was very busy in there. At the end of the diner the chef and manager did come around to wish all those a happy celebration (bdays, anniversaries, etc). They gave me a number so that I can give to the server so that he can know which cake was ours. We waited about 10 minutes before being seated so we all used the bathroom. The bathroom has an attendant and a small about four stalls. It was very clean though. We were seated outdoors with the view of the city. It was beautiful. It did get crowded through throughout the night, but nothing unbearable. Everyone was a good vibe and time. Our server was awesome. I wish I remembered his name. We placed our drink order first since we were waiting on one of our friends. She got to the table when the first drinks came so we ordered our appetizers and entrées altogether. Our server told us the kitchen was backed up a little bit for entrées, so it was best to order everything together. Appetizers came about 15-20 minutes later. An hour entrées about 30 minutes after that. We did get a refill on drinks and they gave us time to catch up. Our food was amazing. Everything was very well seasoned and the drinks were really good too. I was the only one to order dessert and when I did, I gave the number card to our server so he knew to bring out the cake without my friend, the birthday girl, noticing. We were able to surprise her with her cake. The bill came out to $404 for four people. We all had drinks, appetizers, entrées and I had a dessert. The tip was included in the total, which was very well deserved. Everything was very nice. The vibes were there. The music was awesome and the view was beautiful. Great to take pictures. We came here for brunch to celebrate a birthday, and unfortunately what should have been a fun occasion turned into a frustrating, embarrassing, and disappointing experience. The birthday guest in our group was denied entry because management claimed his attire violated the restaurant's dress code. To be clear, we later found the dress code on the restaurant's website, so this is not a complaint about having standards. The issue is the apparent inconsistency in how those standards were enforced. The birthday guest was dressed in a trendy, casual outfit that fit the atmosphere of the restaurant. Yet throughout our visit, we observed multiple men inside wearing clothing that appeared to violate the same dress code, including slides, sweat shorts, and sportswear. Considering there was a World Cup match on and many patrons were dressed casually for the occasion, the decision to single him out made very little sense. We even documented examples because the inconsistency was so obvious. Because the rest of our party had already been seated, the birthday guest chose not to argue. Instead, he went home, changed into jeans, and returned so he could celebrate with us. While we ultimately stayed and spent a significant amount of money, the experience had already put a damper on what was supposed to be a special occasion. What made the situation worse was the response from management. When we expressed our concerns and questioned why the dress code appeared to be applied differently to our guest than to others in the restaurant, the manager responded by mentioning that he was "half Black." That statement was both surprising and unhelpful. We were not questioning the manager's racial identity; we were questioning why one guest was denied entry while others wearing similar attire were admitted without issue. As a group of darker-skinned patrons, the entire experience left us feeling racially profiled and discriminated against. Whether that was the restaurant's intention or not, that is genuinely how it felt. When rules appear to be enforced differently depending on who is standing at the door, it naturally raises concerns about bias. Instead of addressing those concerns directly, management's response left us feeling dismissed and invalidated. It's unfortunate because I would much rather be writing about the food, the atmosphere, or the celebration itself. Instead, the lasting memory is watching the birthday guest be turned away, forced to leave and change clothes, and then return to a restaurant where numerous other guests appeared to be dressed no differently than he was. We came expecting good food, good energy, and a memorable birthday celebration. We stayed because it was the most practical option after our guest returned, but we left feeling frustrated, unwelcome, and deeply disappointed. For us, the inconsistency in treatment overshadowed everything else, and unfortunately it is the reason we will not be returning. read more

I would do a 5/5 rating for the ambiance and overall vibe. They had a live DJ, a big robot dancing & walking through and then a guy with neon lights playing the drums hyping the place up. This feels more like a celebratory restaurant versus just a dinner out: They make every birthday request feel special and just have that whole process down to a tee! The apps were absolutely delicious however the entree's were not the greatest, the drinks also weren't great and super sugary/sweet so that was a bit disappointing. The desserts though ! read more

Had a great experience Friday night celebrating my girlfriend, who's getting married soon! The ambiance and atmosphere were great, and we really enjoyed all of the food and cocktails. Our only disappointment was the seating. We were placed in a corner despite there being several prime tables available, and as a group of Black women, we couldn't help but question why we were seated there when so many better tables appeared to be open. It definitely left us with an uncomfortable impression. That being said, our waiter, KERVIN, was EVERYTHING! He was incredibly knowledgeable about both the food and drinks, attentive, personable, and provided us with such great service throughout the night. He truly elevated our experience--I'd honestly come back just for him! Came here to celebrate my birthday during my birthday weekend. Parking is valet however you can park for free in adjacent Target parking lot and walk a bit to the restaurant Food was spectacular! The decor was very futuristic which I loved. They had live entertainment. We were carded before entering the restaurant. Service was ok, they spelled my name wrong on my birthday sign and our server didn't handle the cake aspect well. read more

A good spot popular for birthday celebrations! Don coqui boasts upscale latin cuisine that serves hearty portions! It gets very crowded, so reservations are recommended. Its a loud divy vibe and their cocktails and stellar, and can be conjured to your liking. Their yucca fries are great as well as their popular seafood paella. We decided to celebrate our friend's birthday here after our spa day at the nearby Sojo spa. We had made no reservations but we got there early enough and we were accommodated. It is definitely a birthday place and there were numerous Leo's celebrating. There were two hype women (very Vegas showgirls style) getting the birthday ppl raring for their birthdays. I came here for my birthday dinner with my girls, first impressions was wow. Very cute ambience and each room had their own vibes. At night time this place isnt a dress down restaurant, I would absolutely dress up because you will feel out of place if you dont. When you think chicharron, you think super crispy...nope these were soft, fatty and seemed like they were braised opposed to fried. I wouldnt order this again since thats not my cup of tea. Dont get me wrong, it was good but not what I expected. The apps did take a bit long to come out so the waiter brought us come coquito drinks on the house...SO DELICIOUS. Now for the entrees. I didn't know what I wanted and Jorge recommended the oxtail. So I went with it, he didnt steer me wrong with the drinks. It came with white rice, black beans and some maduros. Wow! Wow! Wow! Hands down this was top 2 oxtail that ive ever had. The other oxtail dish I had was on a beach in Jamaica so thats hard to choose which is #1 So flavorful, saucy. It was perfect. My friends ordered the salmon w coconut rice, she devoured it and loved the sweet touch of the rice to her dish. My other friend ordered the lamb chops w a medium temp, it came well done. She was so hungry she didn't bother to get it redone, besides the wrong temp, she still enjoyed it. There was a manager walking around wishing everyone who was celebrating something well wishes and he came and brought me a glass of bubbly on the house which was very sweet. I would say the service is great except I would say they need to be more attentive to empty water glasses, we had to chase down someone to come refill us, but that didnt kill the night. For dessert we got the tree leche and coco flan. A1! Everything from the entrees to dessert and drinks were delicious. Id def come back and try other apps. I used to be a regular at their Queens location and was crushed when they closed. So, when I learned they had a location in Edgewater, I couldn't get there fast enough. And, wow, they did not disappoint. Same vibrant vibes, amazing food, and those unbeatable city views. Ask to be seated outside if the weather is nice! Also, ask for Alvaro to serve you. He's truly the best. Friendly, attentive and he knows the menu inside out. Don't be shy about asking for recommendations - I'm so glad I did.
