Looking for an after dinner spot to have a drink with old friends visiting and drawn to Broadway Dive Bar's neon "Tavern" sign out front. Peeking in, it was a perfect "old school" dive! Although they had tables out front, loved the inside! While crowded at the bar and adjacent tables, we found seating for ourselves in the mezzanine overlooking the place - a great spot to have a conversation and reconnect! The bartender was friendly. The beer and cider selection is wide, including more specialty beverages with zero alcohol, CBD, and THC. And if conversation requires a stimuli, you're surrounded by branded ephemera (like Burger King and Ronald McDonald painted busts), TVs, artwork filling the place from floor to rafters. Stopped by while out and it was a cozy dive bar with various drink options. I tried the Nothing Rhymes with Blood Orange Margarita which was good ... a little on the sweet side but not too bad. Overall it was a nice experience due to the nice staff and ability to drink, relax and chat with friends over the low music. read more

I've been a regular at this bar since early 2002. It's a great local spot, with an excellent beer selection, and it's near a youth hostel so there are regularly international patrons aside from the neighborhood crowd. Erin is an awesome bartender. She's friendly, fun, and can multi-task. Broadway Dive Bar also has a small outdoor section on Broadway, which is great for people-watching. I usually don't leave reviews, but I HAD TO for Broadway Dive. A group of us came after brunch to hang out for some drinks and to enjoy the weather outside. The beer selection is INCREDIBLE, I've really not seen much like it in the city so big ol' kudos to the team for curating all those fridges! And...I gotta say, biggest shout out has to go to Erin. She's so charismatic, funny, and so chill. The UWS is really out of the way for me to get to, but this total gem of a bar is definitely going to be a return spot for me! Def recommend. Lee cares not for his clientele. Profits above ethics. Case in point: years ago Howie was a bartender (me: "How much?" H: "7 thousand dollars.") whom I liked and worked Sundays. He had a following and I was a regular. There must have been a reason he didn't want a regular there on Sunday night. Specifically this regular(since 1985). I detailed what shitty thing happened to me in a review that somehow Lee has had successfully removed. So I would warn you that in any Dive Bar (the original, 75, and Broadway) you will be patronized. And on Sunday, Lee is upstate, watching (see all the cameras?) making sure what happened to me doesn't happen again. Not because he cares about his clientele. He only cares about his business. Every time I've walked past this place, I've made a mental note to check it out. Finally stopped in for one quick drink, but wound up staying a few hours. The variety of beers (and even wine) on tap is huge and so much better than the basics of most dive bars. The music was great, and we wound up talking to half of the people in the place. Probably the best beer bar on the UWS and my favorite of the Dive Bar trio. Broadway Dive is dark, narrow space that feels cluttered but somehow homey. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. There are a lot of tables given the size of the space, in addition to a long bar. There is also somehow a hidden loft space with more private tables up a flight of stairs. It's all weird and I love it. Cases for beer that can be consumed are up front and towards the back. The selection is excellent, as is the curation on taps. Any beer in a case can be taken to go or drank on the premises for a nominal corkage fee; this fee doesn't scale up for bombers, so this is a very good deal. Beers available range from the accessible (lagers from local microbreweries like Three's, bottles of London Pride) to the eclectic (Dogfish Head Fort from 2015ish, super heavy IPAs). There's something for everyone. If you're a beer drinker on the UWS and you don't go here, you're not trying. I don't go everyday, but I always love visit when I have time to. Get to it. read more

Very nice joint. Lots of beers. And a very wide selection of whiskeys. Ariel (a regular) is great. He has very nice hair -- why does he wear those toques? Never mind him. The bartenders are pro. The owner is the nicest man I've ever met (but I don't get out much). Ask for Katie, Brett, Erin, Jen, Lauren, Deirdra, Alex, Sam, George. Hell!... they are all great. They didn't pay me to say this (but they should give me an extra pour, right?). Several years ago they had this amazing fish fight night where we would bet on which fish would win. I gave up on this place 6-7 years ago. They added the upper deck "VIP lounge", which made it dangerous to stand below. (Seriously, last time I was there, I was this "this" close to getting F-ing brained because some idiot upstairs knocked his glass off the railing. And that was not the first time.) And then there's the constant background generator noise from all the frigging beer coolers. And despite the supposed good beer list, you could walk in on a Friday night and be told that half the items on the tap beer list print-out were tapped out. Would you like a Bud Lite instead? And after all the many physical upgrades they made elsewhere about the bar, the men's room continued to reek like a pissoire that hadn't been cleaned since the last global war. read more

Definitely a way above average dive bar. While it has the look and feel of neighborhood dive spot, the beer selection and the atmosphere is anything but. I love the mixture of typical bar patrons, young folks on dates, people coming in for night caps, and people coming in for the live music. While the stage is small, the a management books great acts! Came here and saw a jazz trio with a trombone player, really excellent. The house wine here is also very good and next time im sure to try the sandwiches. The beer selection is outrageous. I am updating my review of this bar after having visited it a few more times. First, I'll repeat the positives: Broadway Dive is a breath of fresh air in this neighborhood. In an area being overrun with pointless Chase Manhattans, Pinkberries and boring yuppie bar & grills, this place kicks it old school. There's food, but hardly anyone orders it. There are occasional live bands, but they're mostly just background ambiance. There are a lot of TV screens, but nobody really goes there to watch sports. The main point of this place is to sit, drink, chat with friends. That is the kind of bar we need around here. The vibe of the place is very well-considered. Cozy, but with just the right amount of New York "edge." The extra balcony seating is a cool touch that makes the bar really feel like a clubhouse. The music's generally fine, mostly from the 20th century rock and pop canon, but with some more modern stuff as well. The legal max capacity for this place is about 75 people. On a busy night the attendance seems to be roughly half that, which is perfect in my mind. I really like that the general turnout in this place is robust, but not overbearing. It's rarely depressingly dead, but it's also rarely so packed that you feel uncomfortable. The patrons are what you'd expect for the area, an unpretentious mix of stragglers and students covering a pretty broad age range. Ethnically it's slightly less diverse, being mostly white, but again I chalk that up mostly to its location. There are a lot of eccentric characters in this place, but most of them are benign. My original review was five stars. I have to subtract a star based on some of the negatives I've come across since then. While none of them are deal breakers, I thought they'd be worth noting. The first issue is with the bartenders. With some exceptions, they are not the warmest or most enthusiastic bunch. The general vibe is "meh." They often look spaced out, numb, or mildly annoyed. Occasionally they've been overtly grumpy, though thankfully not often in my direction. I'm not making a big deal out of this aspect, because I get that the service industry is tough, and none of the infractions were bad enough to bother recounting here. But I am still giving you my general impression for what it's worth. And I don't need my bartenders to tap dance or recite poetry, but at least fool me once in a while. The only other thing I'll add here is that although the place feels safe, I've noticed a higher volume of bartender/patron drama than usual here for some reason. Whether that's due to the neighborhood, the staff or some combination of the two, I'm not sure. It mostly just makes for morbid entertainment, though. There is a pervasive musty, salty odor that becomes slightly stronger as one approaches the bathrooms in the back, but it's not unpleasant...per se. The temperature situation is kind of quirky--the overhead fans are perpetually on, even in the dead of winter, and sometimes the AC will even come on intermittently, blasting everyone with an arctic gale. This has become less of a problem in the past few months so maybe someone got the memo that cool isn't always "cool," but it still is an occasional factor. Back to the positives. Save for the bottled Epic beef jerky, which I love, I have not tried the food. It sounds like basic bar fare. I could definitely see myself ordering some if I were in the right mood. The well drinks that I've had are all pretty good and varied. Popular selections get tapped out pretty quick, usually before 9 pm, but there are always other decent options. I had an interesting uncarbonated cask ale and an Akashi single malt one time, a few rounds of basic pale ale the next, and liked both times equally. As far as I can tell, they keep their taps clean. While I haven't ever ordered anything that I felt was mind-blowing or even particularly notable really, that isn't what I'm here for anyway, so it's okay. And to be fair, I haven't tried ordering any of the myriad craft brews that sit bottled for individual purpose (either to stay or to go) in the surrounding display fridges. I plan to soon, since some of them do look very enticing, and I'm very glad that this novel aspect is a part of the bar. I've lived in this neighborhood on and off for decades, and I remember when even seemingly stodgy old places like Malachy's or Dublin House were fun, lively scenes; this place picks up the ball they apparently dropped years ago. My friend invited me to come here for his birthday party. I reluctantly entered this small venue, surprised by the eclectic decorations of the bar. I experienced serious culture shock, my dude. The decorations seemed like rejections from a wife who told her husband to return his Pier One/Bed Bath Beyond/Lowes impulse purchases to the store... yet the husband forgot to return them and left them here. Once you acclimate to the Narnia/Stranger Things-like fantasy world environment, the bartenders work tirelessly to keep you here. Olivia, my bartender, witty, funny and charming, made me feel at home. Yes, miss, I'll have another. This has the stigma of a dive bar, but that's unfair. There are several excellent craft beers on draft. Dogfish Head Siracusa Nera, an imperial stout? Allagash Curieux, a tripel? Ladies and gentleman, this dive bar is not f-cking ordinary.
