The service was friendly, the bartender was lovely and even let us sit and be served at a small table although they were crowded. I had a glass of rose wine and it was great and poured generously. Terrible experience, too many macroagressions from bartenders. Not a safe space for black people at all, I recall a black man open up slightly about his future to one of the bartenders (the male with formerly long hair) and the bartender replied with a sigh and tangentially asked," does your future involve another drink?". Completely disregarded anything the customer was talking about and treated him like a money bag. 01.25.24 This is the hottest bar that I've been to this year. I haven't been uptown socially for a number of years. Coincidentally, I met someone that lived in the area. We hit a speakeasy first, then a restaurant and stopped at Uptown Bourbon for a nightcap. When I walked in, I almost lost my mind. The vibe was sooo strong in this space. The bronze tin roof, the mood lighting and the Technics turntable at the end of the bar with a collection of vintage classics swept me off my feet!!! Can this date get any better?! I was already in 7th heaven, this date could not be defeated!!! I do not remember the names of the bartenders (barhopping has that affect on me) one was a guy with short black hair and the woman had dirty blond hair below her shoulders. I miss NYC so I'm going to write a review. I had never been to Harlem until a recent trip. It's a nice change of pace from Manhattan.. We visited a friend who lives there and he took us to Uptown Bourbon. A dark, small, hip type of place. With records on the wall. And dim lighting. Everyone knew his name ... we kept calling him the Mayor. He ordered us some tall cans not quite Pibbs a bit nicer. Too polite to say I'll take a "real" beer. To my dismay his choice was actually good. To my relief good thing I didn't opt out for something "real". Sometimes you just have to trust the local. I stopped here with my wife on Father's Day afternoon when this gem opened at 4 p.m. We were able to grab that cute table for two which sits on the cusp of the sidewalk. The two old fashioned drinks were perfectly made by my namesake bartender Peter. The bourbon selections were very impressive, which included multiple Four Roses choices, Blanton's, Weller, and other refined and traditional bourbons. And the stack of LP records from bands ranging from Heart to Led Zeppelin to Pink Floyd etc....while the working turntable plays these timeless classics right from the cute bar completes a unique and great experience. We came here last night and I must say it was good. I had the Hemingway Daiquiri and it was good. Then Seth the bartender made another drink and that was delicious. I can not remember what was the name of the drink but I loved it. The service was good and a very nice place. I enjoyed myself very much. I am not sure what is their food situation because I did not see a food menu. It was full when we went and I would definitely go back. I liked the friendliness of the bartender/ server Seth. Worst Bartenders in history. I was visiting a friend in Manhattan a few weeks back and we wanted to get a drink here. BIG MISTAKE! We were two gay guys coming from Brunch and on a very happy note. A woman bartender was ignoring us over and over again and after we got her attention she said: "You people have to wait" and did not take our order. I know she said that because we are GAY. "You people?" Not only did she not serve us, she served everyone around us and was mocking my friend Rene. See pictures attached. The male Bartender was also rude and a Bully. This place has some serious DISCRIMINATION ISSUES employees here!!! I won't ever be back. This is against the LAW!!! I will make sure to Report this place and it's practices. This is the third time I've been to this TINY establishment. I think what makes this place a winner is several things: first off, happy hour prices are extremely reasonable. For example, $2 for a beer, $4 for whiskey, $5/6 for a cocktail. The bartenders are chill, courteous and friendly. I was surprised to see a bartender playing some vinyl records on an actual turntable! Another time, a different bartender, played music from her smartphone. So thumbs up for having a variety of genres to listen to while enjoying a libation. Probably what makes this a cool spot is that the clientele is nice and diverse. Either it's me or not, but I usually find the patrons in there to be cool, friendly, if not interesting. Uptown Bourbon makes it very affordable to enjoy well mixed drinks in a clean, simply designed and functional TINY space. (Super kudos to the well kept bathroom. Voctor is direct and i like that. Brought a friend from Boston (Boo) and was overly critical but eventually started liking the cocktails he was creating. She got mad for what i sai d about her..hehehehe. Anyway, Victor is badass in making cocktails. All you need to do is tell him what your preferences are, such as sweet, sour savory etc, and he will make you something along those lines. The base whiskeys ( American spelling) is Evan Williams, and i know about the single barrel Evan Williams that won numerous awards for Bourbon. This is a place that is very intimate, and plays vinyl records. They have vinyl album covers throughout the place. Nice little gem in this neighborhood which you can easily overlook. Take a chance if you are a bourbon lover and you will not be disappointed. They also have meat and cheese plates or olives and pickles plates. read more

So this fine establishment was recommended by several bartenders that either that live or work in the neighborhood. So we decided to drop in on a Saturday night. I fell in love immediately with this beautiful space(clearly my reason for writing a review the same day of visiting). The bar seats about 10 people, so don't bring your crew. There is a table in the back that seats 4 people but with amount of awesomeness this place contains it will catch on with the neighborhood QUICK!! They have a real record player that you can request music with the likes of Marvin Gaye, Al Green, and Aretha Franklin. Their bartenders are kind and personable (Thanks Elena) and truly know their cocktails. I had the Gin & Cucumber and my husband had a Rye Manhattan. I absolutely loved this drink because it was so smooth. The bartender did mention they have a happy hour that I WILL BE BACK FOR! Thank you for the awesome first impression. I like this place. They have two taps, a nice selection of beers in cans and bottles, wines, and -- of course -- lots of bourbon. The vibe is cool. They have a record player and lots of jazz records from the '60s. The place is really small and seating is at a premium. Now, here's the reason I gave three stars. I walked in and there was no place to sit, but there was room to stand by the drink rail across from the bar. I pulled out my wallet -- the international sign for "I want to order." The bartender -- a woman -- did not even acknowledge me. She was chatting with someone who was sitting at the bar who I believe is either an owner, manager, or another employee because he went behind the bar to fetch himself another beer and the bartender did not try to stop him. I waited well over five minutes before the bartender finally deemed me worthy enough to ask me what I wanted -- not even a "hello." This place is too small for customer service to be this bad. The only way a business with so little square footage is going to survive is if it is known as being a friendly bar. To be fair, another bartender started a shift not longer after I was served -- and able to snag a stool at the bar. He was much friendlier and appeared to have a fondness for Reese's Pieces, because one of the first things he did when he arrived was to open a bag and pour them into an old fashion glass. The selection is great (and the staff is super knowledgeable and can recommend great new finds). They have a little something to eat but that isn't the reason to go. It's not the largest of spaces, so big groups might find it tricky, but for duos and trios, it'll work just fine. The cocktails are excellent - and the bartenders aren't afraid to serve you some of the menu goodies. Ask for an Aviation. You will not be disappointed. Occasionally, a little tricky to get your drink. The bartenders I've encountered have always seemed a little distracted by friends and regulars. Sometimes you want to go, where everybody knows your name. This neighborhood bar is chill, and relaxed. Everyone is just here to have a good time. Everyone is friendly and I wouldn't be surprised if you left here with new friends. $2 beers, $5 house scotch during happy hour, and a great selection of bourbons. Also great cocktails on the menu, and a cocktail of the week. There's an LP player, and patrons take turn choosing which of the many (at least 100) LPs to play. Very cool, chill little bar in Harlem. The drinks were all affordable, and the music playing was great. They've got a bunch of vinyl records and you can make requests and they'll play it. They have one lady bartender there from Wyoming who ignored my party the entire time, saw fit to start ranting with a bunch of balding dudes who were pontificating about trump and the constitution rather than serve a drink order. Between the classic records played in the background to the homemade bitters from the bartenders this should be everyones new favorite spot north of 125th Street. When I first moved to the area not many bars/restaurants existed, but as time has gone by I had hoped for a more intimate bar to relax and unwind. Had a "special" experience last night at Uptown Bourbon. Unfortunately not consistent with the high ratings this place has. I ordered an old fashioned from the female bartender ("Tory" per the receipt) and after taking a sip I thought it was a bit off, I asked her if she could do anything to make it less strong or sweeter. She walked away, came back with a can in her hand and said "you can add water to It" and obnoxiously poured water my drink. I was shocked, couldn't believe that actually happened. Then within earshot of me she told her fellow bartender what she just did - Iike she was proud of it? Wtf is that ?! I didn't say anything after that but humbly asked for my bill. Won't be returning with service like that. Unfortunately you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. I hope they fire this girl.
