Pretty Good! My best friend and I were looking for a cool bar after the movies on a Monday Afternoon. Most restaurants and bars are usually closed on Monday, but we were lucky enough to find one open on Mondays! LOL We found very curious the name of the drinks, dead poets LOL. A cool pub with a literature theme, and more importantly awesome cocktails. It looks like a bar that's for smart people. The Dead Poet makes for some good reading. Patrons can even check out the inventory of old books. You have to get something to drink of course too. It doesn't have a snooty feel after getting to know some of the customers. More of a loud crowd than expected. They're not a bunch of bookworms as you may have thought. If it were this would be an even better bar. They still have lots of books you can look at in the back as you sit on the couches. As it is, this is still a good bar. The cocktails are about $12 to $13 or so. Expensive but these are excellently crafted. They're all named after poets or writers. All of these are more simple than they appear. I like the Walt Whitman the best. This is made with coconut rum, gin, orange liquor, and lemon vodka. Bookworms are welcome but you don't have to be one to go here. It has actual books to look at if you feel like it. It appeared there was no table service so we had to order at the bar. The interior was also quaint and charming but I must have been oblivious to the literary quotes scattered around as other Yelp reviewers noted. The bartender was friendly when I arrived to place an order offering a sample of the cider on tap. Sold. It was a refreshing pint for only $5.50. We didn't order food but entrees being brought to the tables looked and smelled delicious. When we got there my gf and I were the only ones there so we befriended the worker, Tim. He was fantastic and attentive, plus we dove into Games of Thrones and Star Wars discussions which is always incredible. The decor and song selection of this place earns it a 5 star, but the mixed drinks were on point. I highly recommend the Game of Thrones drink! The pub has a wide variety of cocktails named after great (and not so great) authors. My go-to beverage was the J.D. Salinger, which was a combination of Redemption Rye, bitters, club soda, and whiskey (I think) soaked cherries. I came here for the first time this past weekend. It was very busy and this was around 5pm on a Sunday. I got the famous 'Dead Poet' drink. If you've read my reviews before from bars or restaurants, I don't like a strong tasting alcoholic drink. This one has 7 liquors in it and I think they only allow you to order 1 or 2 (don't quote me on that). Everyone says it tastes like grape soda and I was skeptical. But wow... it tastes JUST like grape soda. You did not taste ANY alcohol. It was delicious and dangerous. My husband got the 'Ernest Hemmingway' drink which did have a strong alcohol taste which he enjoyed. The service was quick, helpful and super friendly. I would definitely be back! read more

The Dead Poet is a cute bar close enough to central park for convenience but enough off the beaten path that it's not constantly full of tourists. The aesthetic is really great: menus in books, branding on all the glasses and everything on the back wall is legible via the huge mirror over the bar. I tried the house mixed drink - they don't say what's in it, but that probably for the best. I watched our bartender make a couple of them and there's quite a bit that goes into it - alcoholic and non. But it was delicious and I would've gladly ordered a few more if it wasn't lunch and we had a lot more walking to do. If mixed drinks aren't your thing they do have a good list of beers on tap, many local and seasonal options as well. We both tried sandwiches for lunch: the BLT and the Poet Parm. BLT was classic, no frills but good. The Poet Parm was fun and delicious - although definitely felt it clogging my arteries for a little while afterwards.
