I have resided on the UWS for over 38+ years, and have a love relationship with Prohibition fine dining & Jazz venue since 2003. A soulful music haven, paying homage to the 1920's flavor; with impromptu melody goodness. During one of my frequent hangout appearances, Chaka Khan graced her presence, shut the house down & blew the roof off the building. The delectable food, savory flavors and my favorites are: Tuna Poke Crisps, Lollipop Lamb Chops, Crackling Pork Shank, Wild Mushroom Gnocchi, and "Pro" Pie for Two. There insanely delicious flavored cocktails are: The Bootlegger Old Fashioned and Frozen Cosmo; not watered down. Trust me, their electrify, high energetic toxicating vibe is suitable for all who are curious, daring and want pure fun from a live bang or gut wrenching melodically sound from his, her or their voices, puts a spell all over you; and I LOVED IT The staff, deserve an open blank check or countless gratuity for keeping their attention on you, so you want for nothing. Just enjoy the food, cocktails and the live band; so you can drift into the atmosphere and feel it wrap around you lovingly. Oh, I highly recommend Prohibition, just because...treat yourself, don't cheat yourself. read more

Live music was great! Really talented band and singer, great vibe, nice scene. Perfect espresso martinis. Lots of bites to share like tuna tartar, perfect crunch and a tickle of spice :) read more

Prohibition is an awesome bar, restaurant and live music venue. They open at 4:30pm and start serving food at 5pm. They have an awesome happy hour with $12 cocktails and $8 wine. I had the tom cat tonic and it was amazing!!! I did the restaurant week menu which was $45 for 3 courses - I chose the heirloom carrots, gnocchi and chocolate cake. It was a solid, good meal. The bar snacks sounded good too and are only $10 during happy hour. Service was spectacular, very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is pretty large and has a speakeasy bar in the back. The bathroom situation is not ideal - located down a flight of stairs past an open kitchen, but what can you do? Live music begins at 7pm and runs for most of the evening. Truly underrated hip spot in a neighborhood that lacks a bit of edge at times. read more

We came to this place to have a get together with friends. The ambiance was incredible! Very chic and low lighting was perfect for a Saturday night. They had live music which was also so much fun! We sang along and enjoyed our drinks and food. My husband got the braised pork shank and I got the grandmas sauce pasta dish. DELICIOUS!! We had the lamb and burratta with truffle fries to share- also to die for. We ended the night with some espresso martinis for a sweet ending. Amazing food, great service and entertainment. Definitely will come back! Ask for Ty! Best server!! read more

It's all about the vibes. Went here for drinks ONLY, and musical performance. Before you come in, there's already a $20 fee for entrance. The musical group or band changes every weekend or every night I think. But for that night, it was a band singing all the great tunes of 90s and early aughts. It was great. We had two glasses of Chardonnay each, service was nice and quick. Will come back and check out the food next time! read more

We hosted a private event here for a group of abouttwelve people, and I cannot say enough good things about the experience. From planning through execution, everything was smooth and thoughtful. The service was excellent, the food and drinks were fantastic, and the overall atmosphere was exactly what we were looking for. The live music was the perfect addition and really elevated the entire evening. If you are looking for a place to host a private gathering, or simply want a memorable night out with great service and ambiance, this is an excellent choice. We will absolutely be returning. read more

We originally booked the Baylander for our son's 1st birthday, but due to inclement weather, we had to move our party over to Prohibition. From booking our party a couple months ago, up until the very last moments of our event, all of the staff that we communicated with and worked with were extremely helpful, friendly, and flexible and they truly made our son's first birthday an event to remember forever! For the price point, I think it's money well spent. Because the food was delicious, and all of our guests commented that they enjoyed the food and drinks. We hired our own outside entertainment, and we were also allowed to bring in outside catering, strictly for a whole lechon carving and a custom cake, so I thought that was nice of the establishment to allow us to do that. They also had A/V equipment available that allowed us to loop a slideshow that I had made. They handled our cake cutting and even helped us clean up at the end of the event. If I had another special occasion to have a party, I would work with this group again! read more

Good food, good cocktails , great music! My friends had a wonderful time! Looking forward to going back.

We came here for a family dinner on a Saturday night and the service was superb! Parker is just the best! They had a wonderful manager named David -- he rocks! As far as food, I had the best fish and chips I've had in my 59 years. The music was great, and they even brought us a sweet treat from the kitchen. 10/10 would recommend! read more

My wife and I recently held our wedding reception at Prohibition, and we couldn't be happier. We originally planned to host at The Baylander, but due to inclement weather, we had to make a last-minute pivot less than a week before the big day. Mike, Kayly, and the entire staff did a fantastic job navigating the transition. They handled the logistics seamlessly, allowing us to actually enjoy our night. The venue accommodated our 160 guests perfectly--a group ranging from 6 months to 80 years old. Everyone felt comfortable, and we've received so much positive feedback from guests about what a great time they had. We are incredibly grateful to the team and highly recommend them. I have had our staff holiday party here twice. Both times the space accommodated well over 120 people easily. We did passed hors d'oeuvres and cocktails. They offer multiple menu options, depending on your budget and set up preference. The staff is super accommodating and I love their cool outfits with suspenders, which match the cool space and decor. There are plenty of bathrooms for the number of people we had in the space and two full bars so didn't feel crowded. There is a stage for entertainment and they let us bring in our own DJ, but also offered to help provide us with entertainment if needed. The space in front of the stage was cleared of tables so that people could dance, and dance they did!! Michael the owner was very kind and allowed us to reschedule not once but twice without penalty and was very understanding. He checked in throughout the party to make sure everyone was good and even followed up afterwards. Food is delicious. drinks were great and plentiful and the venue was cost friendly. They also offered coat check, since we had the party during the winter months, which I find most places cannot accommodate and so then you end up with a sea of coats everywhere. Necessary! All and all great space. Great staff. Great price. Great location. Clean space. Great food. And my team had a great time. We will be back. We came during happy hour only to leave upset that we didn't get a happy hour menu. The egg roll starter was super tiny and $15. Then the burrata was $20 and only came with two pieces of bread. We got charged another $5 for extra toasted bread. I can see why this place is called prohibition. I plan to live up to its name and not come back. I should've skipped going there to begin with. There are way too many other places around with true happy hours. read more

Went here for the music on Saturday. Great band. Very crowded, but that's because it's a fun place with a good band and fun vibe. A Must-Visit NYC Gem: Incredible Music, Food, and Energy! If you want the ultimate New York City night out, Prohibition is the place to be! We had an absolute blast from the moment we stepped inside. The whole experience--from the warm welcome at the door to the high-energy live music--was 10/10. The Food Experience: Truly Next Level The food here isn't just "bar snacks"--it's a full-on culinary experience. We tried several dishes and honestly, every single one was a hit: * Grandma's Sunday Sauce: This was the star of the show. It's pure comfort in a bowl and tastes like it's been simmering for days. * The Bacon: You can't go wrong here. It's perfectly prepared, smoky, and dangerously addictive. * The Burrata: So fresh and creamy--the perfect way to start the meal. * Crispy Shrimp: These had the perfect crunch and were packed with flavor. The Vibes & Service The host set the tone right away with a great welcome, and the service throughout the night was seamless. It's rare to find a spot that balances a sophisticated "speakeasy" atmosphere with such friendly, attentive staff. And of course, the music! The live band was electric and kept the energy high all night long. The "Roaring 20s" vibe is so well-done--it feels intimate but exciting at the same time. Final Verdict I would definitely suggest Prohibition to everyone! Whether you're a local or just visiting the city, this is the spot for great food, amazing service, and a vibe you won't find anywhere else. We'll definitely be back for more! read more

After finding Prohibition online (and never having been there!) I had my birthday party there last weekend and just could not have been happier with the room, staff, food, drinks, ambience...EVERYTHING. From my first call with Michael, every interaction was warm, friendly, and professional. Kayly was so helpful! We had an open bar and passed apps in the back room with 50 guests in attendance. The price was reasonable and per item, not per head, a real find in NYC! Contract terms were fair. The drinks were delicious and Jess didn't limit us to the menu. The crab cakes and mac & cheese pops were particularly well-received. I was permitted to bring in my own dessert with only a very reasonable fee attached and we had full access to the sound system and microphone. While I can't speak to a main dining room experience, I can tell you that, if you're looking for a party venue, you won't find a better one in Manhattan. Thank you to Michael and his team for a night I'll never forget. All the stars. read more

Great food. Great service. Workers are totally about making your experience great. Fine pricing. Great everything.

Grade school girlfriends came from 3 different states to celebrate our 64th birthdays at Prohibition. The hostess was amazed at our longevity as friends and promptly seated us at a high top while the live music played. The drinks were specially crafted and the food was plentiful and delicious. We were offered dessert but because life is so uncertain, we ate our dessert before we came!! We left happy and walked home. Not long after, I received a call that I had forgotten my cool, new, one of a kind blue jean purse by the hostess/ manager Miranda. We went back and retrieved the purse and talked more about the fact that we were lifelong friends celebrating at Prohibition. Thanks for a wonderful experience and an honest fun staff! read more
