"Things to Consider": 1. Food - fine if you want to pay hotel prices for food that you can get at a New Jersey or Long Island mall at much lower prices. Paper plates, plastic cutlery and pita chips warmed and served in the bags they came in. 2. Service - non-existent. No staff members acknowledge your arrival. You either have to wave madly or go to the bar and ask for a drink. The staff is always closing early with the staff excuse that "we are not busy" yet guests are routinely turned away. The staff is not happy and begrudge being there. DO NOT believe in the hours posted on the website. There is a built-in clientele but the staff can't wait to close it down. I don't know what is wrong with management but they have lost the plot. 3. Ambience - The space could be so much better than it is. The lighting is okay but the seating in the bar area is not appropriate. The adjoining cafe has a better feeling. Ambience has a lot to do with making guests feel welcome - this staff doesn't understand the meaning of hospitality but they should not be blamed. It is clear they have no training and are not held to any standard. If you want to go to a great space, go to the Wallace Hotel around the corner (I am NOT affiliated with them... have just gone there many times). It is so sad to see a place with such potential be so poorly run, especially as they have such little competition. Fairly okay bar inside the art house hotel. Can be hit or miss depending on the bartender. Stick to basic fare to get most bang for your buck. The more complicated the cocktail, the more off the taste seems. Simpler options (like martinis) are done fairly well. Overall not bad for a hotel bar, but better options fairly nearby. If you need a STRONG after work drink, then look no further. I got a drink called fabled flower which was gin based and it was absolutely delicious and very strong. The service was a bit slow, but they only had 2 bartenders serving both the bar and surrounding areas so I'm not surprised. They lost a star because it was supposed to be happy hour with $14 cocktails but I was charged full price ($19) for mine even tho I ordered before 7. I was too lazy to dispute it but look at all charges before giving your card. I had my drink solo & didn't feel awkward or rushed so it's great for solo drinkers or groups. These were the absolute worst cocktails I've ever had. My wife and I went out on a date night and snagged a few of their cocktails and some bar nuts off the menu. For $20, I expect a quality drink. Both were garbage. And the mixed nuts were just regular nuts doused in oil. This place is trash. Also - the servers were slow and unfriendly. There is no redeeming aspect to this place. Talk about a hidden classy gem on UWS! While it is hard to find classy cocktail lounges in this neighborhood, this one stands out! Very elegant with amazing decor that just makes you feel good. The doors open up in the summer so it creates a very open outdoorsy vibe even if you want to sit at the bar (great for the hot days so you have the best of both worlds of AC and still feeling like you are outside!). There are also tables to sit outside as well. Behind the bar is my FAVORITE spot to sit (likely my favorite in the neighborhood!). It is a cute "library" section with big leather couches that make it perfect for a larger group hang out, or just a great date night. The bartenders are also great and make a great cocktail. One of the bartenders (can't remember his name, but will update when I find it out!) makes an amazing spicy margarita with fresh jalapeños. Definitely a spot to check out if you are looking for more of a classy / cocktail lounge vibe! read more

Found this place to meet a friend on the UWS based on all of the good Yelp reviews. The bar is located in the lobby of the Arthouse hotel and is small and intimate. They have several tables and comfy couches to sit, drink and relax. They DO NOT serve food, so much keep that in mind. They also have a grand piano that plays music at 7:30pm on select evenings. For happy hour, they had $10 glasses of wine and specials on beers on tap. Only one red and one white variety were on the happy hour menu, but we didn't mind. This spot is great for a first date as it's quiet and has classy décor. The bartender was friendly; the bar counter itself is small with 2-3 seats so plan on sitting at a table. This is the type of place where you grab your drinks from the bar and then go find a table; there is no waiter service. The bar filled up around 7pm, most likely for the live music that was going to begin. I'd definitely stop back however; their happy hour menu was underwhelming. read more

In the morning the bakery and coffee were tremendous. Delicious and hot coffee excellent for a hotel. Carol is a great person running Patis. At night the bar is super! Eduardo is a great cocktail shaker and friendly! We could not be happier with our 8 day stay at Arthouse Hotel! Engaging jazz bands on some nights including Victor Neufeld's group who swung for the fences and connected for an impromptu NYC celebration of our 50th anniversary! The perfect hotel all way around. Everything was close--subway, Central Park, Zabars, restaurants...and the friendliest staff from desk, maid service, doormen! The bed was extra comfortable! We loved it and we will stay here every time we come to NYC!!! read more

This is place is the perfect combo of good atmosphere and yummy pastries. I've only been here during the day for the coffee shop, but it's on the list to come back at night for the bar scene. In the morning it's the best spot of a lazy morning coffee and pastry. They have nice comfy chairs behind the bar, it's not to busy but busy enough to feel like it's a more happening spot. So we got two pastries the cinnamon roll and almond croissant. They were both quite delicious. The cinnamon roll was probably my favorite but I would definitely order both of them again. The frosting on it was soo good and we didn't realize until getting deeper into it that it was chocolate flavored too . The almost croissant would have been better if we had heated it up but it was still quite yummy and filling was perfect. The coffee was tasty too! Will be back here again :) read more

When we arrived, there was live music and even though it was a weekday, it was quite busy. All of the sofas were taken, so we sat at the tables closer to the garage door entrance. Considering this is inside a hotel, the prices of the drinks and the fact that there were menus at the tables, we were surprised to learn that there was no table service and that we needed to go to the bar to order. We still had a nice time and it may have been a different experience if we'd been able to sit on the sofas, but it felt overpriced for the experience we had. Such a lovely, cozy spot! Great sofas for lounging comfortably while you have a drink. The bar is part of the lobby of the Arthouse Hotel which is dog friendly, so there were a lot of four-legged furry guests too which added to the quaint fuzzy warm ambience! Loved the pianist playing on the glossy red piano and the drinks were fantastic - the bartender made up a special yummy drink for me which looked amazing when I told him I wanted something non-alcoholic with notes of lemon, ginger and bubbles! The decor with the flowers and fairy lights helped to create a romantic setting. Highly recommend! read more

I took a date to Arthouse Bar and let's just say it's definitely not the right place for that. So much so that we both had a laugh, but still I don't plan on going back. The main thing were the lights: they were extremely bright and daytime (blue) toned. It's hard to describe but this completely set the vibe as a harshly lit hotel room foyer that happened to serve drinks; whatever the opposite of "moody" is. Other than that, the drinks were good enough and service was good, and we had no problem getting a table. read more

Went for drinks in the evening. The service was rather bad, which was annoying. Had to finally go track down our waiter to get the check. When I get the bill, I see it's kinda high. So I ask for the detailed prices (which they conveniently didn't provide). They auto charge 20% service fee. So be careful about that. Slowest bartender in the world. We went there for pre-theater drinks, they don't accept cash and add a 20% tip to the bill without even asking. The service was SUPER SLOW, the bartender really takes his time. To make matters worse, when my friends ordered the second round the credit card machine stalled and the bartender didn't even bother to explain what happened. However, the lounge offers a lot of different seating options. I love sitting next to the red piano up top. I love this place simply because it is one of very few bars that allows dogs indoors as the hotel is dog friendly. They are doing a very good job with the Covid precautions. They have a nice wine selection. Very cozy setting. Prior to Covid they had fun guests and I enjoyed meeting new people there.
