Cool coffee shop meets bar. We were feeling espresso martinis and happened across Da Capo. When we first walked in I was worried they were just serving coffee, but we asked about cocktails and were given their brunch menu which contained a variety of boozy drinks. The standard espresso martini was served with bourbon, but they were able to make me one with vodka upon request. The salad with chicken was tasty. The cocktails had fun names and we liked them; although the one with lemongrass lacked lemongrass flavor - it was mostly sweet lemon. There's some outside seating, seating at the bar, and speakeasy feeling backroom. It was hot outside so we sat in back where the a/c was working best. We sat near the wall and I'm pretty certain I was bitten by mosquitoes while sitting there. Prior to entering Da Capo, I had never tried a fish burger or filet sandwich. I took one look at the menu and became extremely curious to try something new and fun! I was thoroughly impressed with this salmon burger. The filet was built to be a generous thickness, which was seared to perfection. The arugula gave the slightest crunch and most subtle kick of spice (iykyk). The tartar sauce was rich and seasoned with capers, black pepper, dill, and other spices to elevate the flavor profile of the burger. The seasoned potato wedges were the perfect side to dip in either the tartar sauce and ketchup. I will definitely come back to Da capo, since the food and overall feel and ambiance of the restaurant exceeded my expectations! P.S. The space had a simple, understated, romantic vibe, and the cocktail menu was very intriguing -- we were especially excited to try one of their pisco variations. Unfortunately, the service was a letdown. Despite the restaurant not being busy, we waited a long time to be seated and then over 20 minutes for someone to take our order. No one checked on us or explained what was going on, so we eventually left without ordering. It was good, but the showstopper was my second drink called the Yellow Jacket. It was a Mezcal-based cocktail that had a nice smokey flavor. My friends and I came here to enjoy Happy Hour around 6 or so. It was so dark inside it felt like nighttime! I guess that's the style but we felt it was a bit too dark to stay for long during a sunny afternoon. We were one of few guests who were seated at the bar. There is also a back room area for a more relaxed dining experience. We enjoyed some of the happy hour bites - arancini (4 pieces) and bruschetta (5 for $10). The grape with cheese was pretty good, as well as the tomato bruschetta, but for each to be $2 it kind of felt like robbery. The drinks are where it's at - several types of spritzes each for $10! They come with potato wedges, which are quite heavy. So tonight, with my Salmon Burger, I asked if I could have a salad instead, and they kindly accommodated my request. We almost didn't go having first misjudged it based on a vibe from a table outside and the lack of seating inside, as it's primarily more of a bar with food in the later part of the evening and a cafe in the day and early night. But, after walking out and then walking back in (and getting seated outside), things quickly changed ... First of all, Da Capo is truly charming and lovely inside (see photos), giving it both an intimate feel, but also a very modern, welcoming vibe. Our expectations were on the low side at first about it being a bar with a cafe, but that also changed pretty fast when it became clear that Da Capo put as much attention and care into its food as it does it's libations. I started we started with the Caesar Salad. (Yum). My husband had the crab cake for his entree, which he loved. I normally am not a crab cake fan. But even I found it to be delish. If you're going to ban laptops, you should have a sign upfront on your window. My husband and I order two coffees at the bar and we whip out our laptops immediately after (before he could make our drinks), but he doesn't say anything. After sitting there for about 10mins, the manager then comes over and gives a speech that they don't allow laptops during brunch on the weekend. Our coffees took awhile and the bartender got my order wrong (ordered an iced matcha latte and he gave me a hot matcha latte). Since this is an Italian place, we both ordered pasta. I went with the Bolognese, and my friend ordered the penne alla vodka. We also got the potato wedges. The food came out very fast, but it was so salty. I tried both pastas, and they were entirely over salted. The only thing you could taste was the salt, I didn't even try to finish my food. The potato wedges were fine, just a bit mushy on the inside. I would probably return again and stick to the drinks since that was very good. Based on my experience, the food was just too salty. Between two people, ordered a Vegetable Quiche, Jam Cookie, Aperol Spritz, and a gin drink (total $35). The quiche is well balanced between the assortment of veggies, cheese, and egg. After a stroll through Central Park, I randomly came across Da Capo. Totally unplanned and totally unexpected but very glad I did. I saw a cute outdoor eating space so I peered into the window and saw that they were open for brunch. The menu was chock full of your usual breakfast and brunch favorites both food and drinks wise but I decided to go with a tequila drink called the "Hauntingly Beautiful." I turned away to chat and check out the menu and when I looked up to see the bartender serve my drink it was easily one of the most aesthetically pleasing drinks I've ever seen. It was a beautiful lavender color with a dehydrated orange on top that gave incredible contrast. 10 out of 10 presentation wise. Truth be told, I had a handful of these cocktails as it was well balanced and just the entire vibe of the place was a pleasure to be in. We used a pulsd deal and made for an amazing brunch! For $39 we got a bottle of prosecco with peach nectar to make our drinks and the two entrees were egg white frittata and the tortellini. Their menu on their website is outdated and shakshouka wasn't available, which was disappointing but the other food was really great! The frittata was very light and I probably wouldn't pay $17 for it if I came back and the tortellini were stuffed with goat cheese and covered in a super creamy, pesto, truffle oil sauce and was amazing. A definite added bonus was the champagne glasses came chilled and I appreciated that extra step. The waitress was also really upbeat and nice and made for a great experience! Da Capo has become one of my "go to" places on the Upper West Side. It's my local bar and small plate food stop, as well as my afternoon café. As a bar, they have a nice cocktail menu and people that know how to make a good cocktail. They also have a nice bar menu from which my favorite item is the veal meatball, which is served with a red sauce along with some toasted bread and ricotta cheese. Very nice! I suggest you try it. As a café, they have a nice coffee machine and offer espressos, Americanos, cappuccinos, etc... They also have an assortment of biscotti, cookies and other sweets to go with it.
