Everytime I go I have a great time. Great food, great drinks, great service can't ask for anything more.

Changed/raised all the prices of their lunch specials and sandwiches. Really don't understand the point of that if there's no change or improvement. Disappointing. Its no longer a lunch special when you raise the base price and the special is more expensive than it used to be by 50% (sandwiches were $10 now $15 for it). read more

This bar offers just about anything you need from food to booze. Located in close proximity to the courthouse and local businesses, you will meet some interesting people for sure. BUT, don't sleep on their food. I enjoyed everything I ate here. They also have a small private room that's not so private. This used to be Poor's until it was changed to the Side Bar. But the food and atmosphere is as good as it has always been. They have a very big bar, a large dining room and a large party room in the back. Just a fantastic local place. Parking unfortunately is a pain the neck. Metered which isn't so bad. This pub/bar is a Hackensack icon. It's been here forever. Changed names but same place and vibe. Huge old time bar area that's great for after work drinks and gatherings. The atmosphere is fabulous. We went for lunch the other day. I had some roasted vegetables and the roasted beet with goat cheese and pecans salad. The vegetables were perfectly roasted. The salad was very fresh and generously sized. The lemon vinaigrette however was very very acidic. It was lacking the sweet necessary to cut that acid. I wish I had realized that before I poured it over my salad. But the salad was still generally good. My son had a grilled chicken sandwich and and side Caesar salad. I've been to Sidebar Gastropub twice and both times were on a Wednesday after playing some pickleball. My main objective was to eat a ton of wings, but both times I had some food other than wings. On Wednesdays the wings are $0.75/each which makes each order a pretty sweet deal. On my first visit my friends and I ordered 1 of each flavor so we ended up with 48 wings. I particularly like their dry rubs of Sidebar and Lemon Pepper, but there's enough variety that you'll probably find one you like. The appetizers are pretty good and decently sized. On my latest visit my friend tried the burger and he said it was just ok and he wished he stuck to the wings. The service isn't the fastest, but everyone is friendly. The ambiance is nice. It's got somewhat of a dive-y vibe and there's been live music during both of my visits. I'll definitely be back here. read more

Went to Sidebar Gastropub for their Wing Wednesday special, where each wing is only 75 cents. Parking can be a pain since it's street only. In the words of my friend, it's got the 2010's hip new restaurant in town vibes, complete with live acoustic music, metal and wood furnishings, and paved concrete floors. It was happy hour, so i started with a short rib slider and short rib taco. They were OK, the slider was better than the taco. We got every flavor of wings, which include Buffalo, Chili lime, Korean Pub, SideRub, Soy Citrus Teriyaki, Pineapple Habanero, Lemon Pepper, or Hot. My favorites were the buffalo and SideRub, though the others were all good as well. Each order came with 6 wings, so the order of wings cost $4.50 each on Wednesday. You must order drinks to avail of the deal, so I had a few beers. Service was a bit slow, but they got everything right. Definitely would return for wing Wednesday. read more

Went here for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night and enjoyed the cocktails and food. They had a live band and there was a great casual and relaxing atmosphere. The cocktails were delicious but are moderately priced. The French onion soup was one of the best I've ever had but our entrees of fish and chips and penne with vodka and chicken were average. The food took a while to come out but we were not in a rush and were enjoying our time there so we didn't mind. Would definitely come back again! read more

Came for 50c wing Wednesday a few weeks ago and it's great that they have a bar side and dining side because we had two kids with us. Waitress and bartenders here are super welcoming, recommended a local hackensack brewing IPA which I very much enjoyed. Wings, sliders and beer, can't go wrong. They were playing the Knicks game at the time with lots of regulars filling up the bar side. Steeet parking is easy so def worth a visit! read more

What a great place to dine in or pickup in the heart of Hackensack. They cater to both locals and those at the court house. Being just a 2 min walk away they see a tun of jurors daily. I popped in for lunch and was surprised how large the place was. It was pretty empty so I had my choice of tables, the bar or high tops. I have several friends who live locally and they suggested banh mi sandwich and said it was out of this world good, but I was presented with the lunch menu and some of these plates were not part of that. We went here because our friends band was playing otherwise we never would've known. Looks like a great local spot. Parking was tough. We parked illegally and we're lucky enough not to get a ticket or towed. I'm not sure if you would call this place a dive bar or not. I had to try all their vegan options. The olives were good but way to many for 2 people. I don't know what I was thinking. I think the other thing was fried green beans. They were very good and the dipping sauce had a kick. I forgot to take a picture but the vegetable burger with fries was exceptional. They have craft beers on tap, even some made here in Hackensack. My beer wasn't as carbonated or cold as I would've liked but the band rocked. read more

we were a party of 8.. shared a few apps, charcuterie board, mozzarella sticks, wings, pizza, fries (awesome). That was all good ... not healthy if that's what you're looking for. Then we got the meals and it kind of went down stars... not just because of the food, more about service. My friend ordered the chicken meal and it was burnt but the waitress never noticed and it sat uneaten the entire time. The short ribs ran out which is understandable but then it was on the bill. My two friends had burgers and they loved it. Overall the table was just not clean across the different courses and we just made it work but it was annoying. read more

I've passed this place so many times, I've never stopped in there once, until today. What a cool historic tavern this is. The history buff in me is definitely gonna have to look into it a lot more, but the food in me wasn't disappointed they have a $10 lunch special, which is super affordable and convenient. Our server was super nice and helpful... Not to mention that she was all by herself and she was able to handle multiple orders. Ryan at the bar is great and serves the best drinks. They serve beers from local breweries. The Mexican Fizz cocktail is my favorite. They're dangerous. I warned you. Really want to like SIDE BAR better. Food was very good. French Onion soup is one of the better ones that I have had. Marinated olive platter was solid. And for happy hour, we enjoyed $3 tacos. Unfortunately, the service from the bartenders was below average. There is no excuse for an empty beer glass to be sitting on the bar for more than 5 minutes. And then in all my years of patronizing drinking establishments, I witnessed a first. Bartender took my empty pint glass and never offered me a another. We had no intention of leaving but after this, we decided to close out and leave, when we finally got the bartenders attention again. A great addition to Hackensack, this fun bar has everything from local craft beer (small tap list but a fine selection) , love music, old school vibes, all paired with delicious food. What do you do on a beautiful Friday afternoon, but meet up with your favorite real estate broker, Ira Goodman, known as the Smiling Realtor for lunch, and my daughter Brandy. If you want someone who is trustworthy, knowledgeable, and hilarious, this is the person for you. This restaurant is in a historic building, blending the old with the new, tin ceilings, brick walls very welcoming. After entering, we were seated right away. Within a few minutes our waitress handed us our menu's and took our drink orders and the customer service continue to be efficient and great throughout our stay. Brandy ordered the Crispy/Grilled Chicken Toasted Brioche which she claimed was very good. Ira's dish was the Truffle Burger with swiss cheese, sauteed mushrooms, white truffle aioli and it was delicious. I had the Classic Burger with lettuce and tomato, cole slaw and fries, and yep, it was good. We weren't rushed when we finished eating, it was just a relaxing atmosphere while having a great conversation. The overall prices were reasonable, and this restaurant is on my return list. I've been wanting to stop here for awhile & it just so happened my friend had a wedding luncheon there. They were highly aware of the crowd that was coming in & then seemed annoyed to have actual customers. The main bartender (bald guy) was completely rude about everything. The food was amazing, I had a chipotle burger that was delicious & the place itself is nice. The food is definitely overpriced & they need to get rid of that nasty guy. Hackensack transplant - just moved from nyc. First night in my new apartment my father and I headed to sidebar for dinner after a long day of moving. Absolutely blown away by the quality of the food. 10/10 will be returning!!! Chill vibe, attentive service (but not overbearing), reasonably priced drinks. Happy hour is 4-7pm on weeknights with $2 off beer and $1 off cocktails. I got the short rib sandwich and it was excellent. My dad got the pulled pork sandwich and it was also very good. Fries are divine. Beet salad was fantastic, as was the Caesar salad. Both salads had the correct ratio of toppings to lettuce to dressing IMO. So happy to have this place down the street from me!
