Our waiter still checked on us throughout and allowed us to take our time, we did not feel rushed. The chicken flautas and empanadas were perfect to share for appetizers. I ordered the chicken bowl which came with a variety of sauces, rice, beans, guacamole. Basically all the fixings for inside a taco. I really enjoyed it! My friend spoke highly of her chicken tacos as well. We originally wanted to order tres leches for dessert. However, it was frozen according to our waiter. We tried the churros instead, but they didn't taste as fresh. We loved our spicy margaritas and espresso martinis. While it wasn't explicitly advertised as Taco Tuesday, the promotion made it seem like there would be something special for the occasion, but there wasn't a single food or drink special. Based on past years and just general expectations for Cinco de Mayo, you'd expect at least some drink deals or themed offerings. The flyer is vague and ends up being misleading, it gets you in the door, but once you're seated, there's nothing different from a regular day. Had a surprise 50th for a close friend here in August on a Saturday night. Calling up to make reservations was a pleasure. Ariel answered all of my questions and the reservation was seamless. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We had a beautiful set up on the side of the restaurant that I requested, near the DJ, and our waitress was PHENOMENAL![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The only issue we had was it was extremely hot inside the restaurant. They have ceiling to floor windows that double as doors that they keep open during the warmer months, which made the inside almost unbearable that night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They did set up fans for us but we mostly spent the whole night sweating through our clothes.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We did bottle service which wasn't expensive at all due to the amount of people that were in our party. One star for vegetarian food. 3 stars for drinks, (although one friend said his margarita was so weak he had to order an extra shot.) Wine pour was okay to generous. We had to wait quite a while for our drinks and asked if they serve chips and salsa. Waitress said yes, but we weren't really clear whether it would come with salsa or not. She brought a small basket of chips that was 1/4 filled. I think there were about 12 chips for a table of six. No salsa. There was a good 10 or 15 minute delay from the first dinner being served to the last of the six of us. Warning to all vegetarians. Essentially nothing on the menu so I asked the waitress if they had anything vegetarian and she said yes, they make vegetarian tacos and quesadillas. I ordered the tacos. They served me three tacos with a small scoop of fajita veggies: peppers, onions, and a couple of mushrooms. That's it. No beans, no cilantro, no lime, no jalapeños, no cheese. Just some barely seasoned, oily, cooked veggies. Being a very long time vegetarian, I usually do pretty well in Mexican restaurants. Not here. Will not go back. Mexcal is located in the heart of downtown Englewood with plenty of parking. It is bar focused first with a list of Mexican bites to round it out ( we didn't eat) On our visit it was dimly lit with a good DJ playing a mix of tunes. Really loved the decor. Very club-like with being too urban. The bartender we had was super cool, friendly , and made us great drinks. He really seemed to enjoy being artistic in the preparation. Loved his margaritas. I heard the chocolate martini was good too. If you like good (call) brands like Patron, Sapphire, etc; expect to pay around $20 per drink. But for the atmosphere, the quality of their drinks, and in this location, I would say that's about right. I saw pictures of it in the daytime and it looked totally different. With wide open french doors, and outside dining, it looks like being at a real, Mexican cantina. I would definitely go back again. read more

The food is good at this place, however they really should include some better sauce with the chips they provide. It is so watery it just doesn't cut it. I ordered the enchiladas and they were delicious, a good amount of spice and some nice chicken cutlets instead of a mix of white and dark meat which you get in most other places. I was supposed to order them separately but the waiter didn't tell me this and since I had limited time before I had to go into the show I had to eat it without the rice and beans! Fun for group of friends or date night. Service was slow and servers were not attentive. There was a soccer game playing and guests and even the workers seemed to be into it. I don't mind the game and cheering, but service was way too slow. We order an app and 2 entrees, but it all came out once. It took a good 25mins for food to come out. We had to wait 10 minutes for water because our server was nowhere to be found. It was our first and last, don't think we'll go back. When my dish arrived, it was SWIMMING IN OIL. That completely turned me off. I was only able to eat the top layer that wasn't completely sitting in the oil. The shrimp was ok - disappointed that it served with tails on however. My husband ordered enchiladas which looked good but were pretty tasteless. If he leaves anything over, he always takes it home. He had 3 enchiladas of which he ate 2. The last one he chose not to take home because he just didn't care for it. Looking back, I should have taken my dish back. His dish wasn't awful but it just lacked flavor. Our server was working both sides of the restaurant which of course was crazy to witness. Not once was our water glasses replenished. We could not get his attention to get our bill so that we can leave for the theater which fortunately, was right next door. I thought at one point I caught his eye because he acknowledged with a nod when I gestured that we need our bill. I was mistaken. He grabbed a bill for another table, handed it to the customer and proceeded to go to the other side of the restaurant to tend to those tables. We had a 5:15 pm reservation for a 7:00 pm show. While initially the restaurant accommodated my request from a 2 table to 4 table setup due to additional guests arriving, both times getting any service just took quite some time and the restaurant wasn't even fully booked. Basic needs like water for the table, grabbing some hot sauce were met with 10 minutes or more of waiting. When we received the food, it was hit or miss. My wife's steak bowl quality wasn't quite up to par. My fajitas fared better but wish I had more tortillas to go with it. When we got desserts, I haven't seen desserts this small in a while but thought maybe I would be blown away by the taste. Tres leches was dry and was lacking more leches as needed. Homemade Tiramisu really wasn't Tiramisu dessert that I was used to. It was in a cup basically as a pudding with two hard biscuits. Our friends had churros and that seemed to be fine. Once we received the bill an automatic 20% gratuity charge was added on. I wasn't aware of the restaurant's policy to do this but I definitely did not receive exceptional service to warrant this.
