I had a great meal and first time dining experience at Mexcal Tequila Bar! This restaurant is very spacious with lots of neon signs, vibrant decorations, and plenty of bar seating to watch any game! The DJ booth and disco ball add to the fun atmosphere. Consistent service throughout. Our appetizers and entrees came out back to back. Our waiter still checked on us throughout and allowed us to take our time, we did not feel rushed. The chicken flautas and empanadas were perfect to share for appetizers. I ordered the chicken bowl which came with a variety of sauces, rice, beans, guacamole. Basically all the fixings for inside a taco. I really enjoyed it! My friend spoke highly of her chicken tacos as well. We originally wanted to order tres leches for dessert. However, it was frozen according to our waiter. We tried the churros instead, but they didn't taste as fresh. We loved our spicy margaritas and espresso martinis. This is definitely a fun place to visit especially if you are going to see a show at the Bergen PAC! It's right next door. Parking at times can be limited especially on a weekend. read more

I went to Mexcal Tequila Bar for Cinco de Mayo and it was a letdown. While it wasn't explicitly advertised as Taco Tuesday, the promotion made it seem like there would be something special for the occasion, but there wasn't a single food or drink special. Based on past years and just general expectations for Cinco de Mayo, you'd expect at least some drink deals or themed offerings. The flyer is vague and ends up being misleading, it gets you in the door, but once you're seated, there's nothing different from a regular day. At minimum, there should have been some kind of special to match the holiday. This didn't live up to the expectations they set. read more

Walked in here before a show at the PAC looked cool and had a good crowd. They sat us in a booth and we ordered 2 drinks , while looking at the menu meal moths kept flying around us , so much so that we killed at least 3. server took forever to get the drinks made and we complained about the moths and asked to be moved so she said she would talk to her boss and then went right back to waiting tables . We grabbed the host when she went by and she moved us to another table ( more moths) so it didn't make a difference. I wouldn't recommend the place on this point alone read more

I went to mexcal for lunch on a Saturday. The food was delicious. I had delicious shrimp tacos. This is known as a dinner spot and late night spot for drinks. I would love to visit again for that. Overall great food. read more

Second time here and it didn't disappoint. Great service as soon as you walk in. We were seated quickly and it was happy hour. Their birria tacos were really good. The chipotle sauce from the empanadas was tasty. The steak quesadilla was a good portion. The margs were nice and strong. Loved the ambiance, lots of seating available including at the bar. Street parking available. read more

If Valentine's Day had a flavor, it would taste a lot like Mexcal Tequila Bar. My wife and I came here looking for a cozy, romantic night out, and instead we found ourselves wondering why we don't celebrate every special occasion here. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance set the mood, dim, stylish lighting, lively but intimate energy, and the kind of vibe that makes you lean in closer and forget about your phone. Let's talk food because wow. Everything tasted unbelievably fresh, like it was made with ingredients that were still bragging about being picked that morning. Each dish felt thoughtfully prepared, balanced, and bold without trying too hard. This is the kind of place where you take a bite, pause, look at your partner, and silently agree: yeah, this was the right choice. The service? Top-notch and genuinely friendly. Not the rehearsed "Hi I'm your server" kind of friendly, but the kind where you feel welcomed, guided, and maybe even a little spoiled. Our server knew the menu, gave great recommendations, and made the night feel celebratory without being overbearing. Basically, if hospitality were a love language, Mexcal speaks it fluently. Between the fresh food, amazing cocktails, warm atmosphere, and staff that clearly care, Mexcal Tequila Bar turned our Valentine's dinner into a memory. Whether you're celebrating love, a date night, or just really good tequila and tacos, this place delivers. Highly recommend! your taste buds (and your significant other) will thank you. read more

Popped in for their Happy Hour and it was absolutely lively at both the bar area and the restaurant. Their HH specials are great in my opinion as the prices are right for both a variety of drinks and apps. I had the Aperol Passion margarita and also a spicy margarita both of which were decent. The aperol was sweeter than I expected but still had good flavor and the spicy definitely lived up to its name as there were fresh jalapeno slices and seeds in it. The empanadas were both really good (chicken and beef) but the beef was my favorite! Service was mid ... I sat quite a while before even being acknowledged and then it took a while to cash out and the couple next to me joked about how long they'd been waiting to receive their check as well. It also seemed as though their air conditioning was out or not properly functioning as they had a large portable AC unit right near the bar. Definitely potential here so I'll be back because I'm curious about their Taco Tuesday menu. read more

Almost $40 for this plate. Bland mashed potatos and the glazed salmon was dryer than a 80yr old pussy There were thirty creepy guys at the bar including the bartender who worked in the second room bar who kept coming behind the main bar to stare at me. Weirdo. My female bartender must've been knew because I asked for sparkling water and she pours me club soda in a class. Bitch I asked for the big bottle . She also didn't know where to find a spoon and returned with a huge serving spoon. I was over it. Nothing like the first visit. read more

Saturday night out for a few drinks and some appetizers. We were a party of five. Busy restaurant, I understand we ordered our food at 6:50 . Empanadas and a quesadilla for the table , at 7:15 we were looking for our server, 7:40. We canceled our food that never came since we had a concert to go to next-door at 8:00. About all I can say is my beer was cold. Never walked out of a place for canceled food before there's always a first. Poor server was overwhelmed read more

If you like tequila you'd love this spot. The food isn't bad either! We stopped by here before seeing a show at Bergen Performing Arts Center next door. Super convenient for pre show drinks and grub or after as they close late and even have a dj late starting at 9pm. Ambiance is pretty decor as well. read more

Stopped by this Mexican restaurant for happy hour on Thursday and had such a great experience. Even though we were in an out the drink specials were solid, and the vibes were just right for a casual evening. Our waiter was super friendly, attentive, and made us feel welcome from the start. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially for happy hour! read more

Nice looking place but food disappointed. Everything was perfectly average. Frankly fajitas no better than Chili's. Chicken was pretty tasteless. Drinks were better than food. Won't be back. read more

Nice spot right next to the theater. Decent food. I didn't love mine but my husband really enjoyed his enchiladas. Service was great.

Had a surprise 50th for a close friend here in August on a Saturday night. Calling up to make reservations was a pleasure. Ariel answered all of my questions and the reservation was seamless. We had a beautiful set up on the side of the restaurant that I requested, near the DJ, and our waitress was PHENOMENAL! The only issue we had was it was extremely hot inside the restaurant. They have ceiling to floor windows that double as doors that they keep open during the warmer months, which made the inside almost unbearable that night. They did set up fans for us but we mostly spent the whole night sweating through our clothes. We did bottle service which wasn't expensive at all due to the amount of people that were in our party. Everyone split the cost and of course, their food was delicious as usual. All in all it was a good night, but I will definitely go back again during the cooler months when it's not so hot inside the restaurant. There's street parking right out front, it's metered, but after 6pm it's free. And they have happy hour specials during the week. read more

Step into this vibrant tequila bar and be swept away by its cozy charm! Pretty sure it's new because I couldn't find it on Yelp! From the moment you enter, you're greeted by a club like atmosphere. This was on a Tuesday night too! On a Tuesday night you're serenaded by the beats of a DJ which really enhanced our experience. The music fills the space just right, setting the perfect backdrop for an unforgettable meal. And let's not forget the fantastic staff! Great place overall. Came for dinner on a Friday. The place got busy quickly and we were happy we made reservations. Service was good. Everyone was jumping in to see what we needed and help out. Staff was friendly and kind. The food was good. Non of the dishes we got was bad. They were all pretty tasty. The only thing I think they could do better on was more variety in flavor profiles; maybe spice things up a bit and add more creativity to the dishes. While everything was good, they could definitely make it better. My favorite were the pastor beef tacos. Music was great and place had great vibes. Overall, nice place to go out and spend time with friends, but not necessarily a foodies haven. read more

Can't say I actually love this place. Came here during happy hour super excited, but left a bit disappointed. The food was alright, I think the best thing that we ordered was the guac and chips. If that's the best then you can definitely find other places to get food. The ambiance though was pretty cool. Had that hip vibe with good music. They had a DJ setup so I think on Fridays or Saturday they have DJ playing live music. I think what was the biggest bummer was the service. I think what makes a great place is the service, however, this place did not deliver. The hostess who sat us was also our waitress. She checked on us when we waved her over...so basically never. It took maybe 15-20 minutes for our drinks to come out. Wanted to order more...she was not seen at all. Actually I had to ask another waiter if they can find our waitress just to order more apps and pay our bill. Definitely not the place if you want great service. What a shame. read more

Nice spot, great mezcal and tequila options, cool vibe, attentive service-- also has screens by the bar to keep an eye on games. Parking is street parking but easy to find, and the street this spot is on is quietly tucked away from the main road read more

Cute place with well thought out decor that adds to the vibes! Lots of options on the menu is a plus. I appreciate the free seasoned popcorn you get as soon as you're seated - smart/cheap way to prevent hangry customers lol. Great for large groups, just make sure you make a reservation ahead of time. Service was great. Note that for large groups they automatically added a 20% tip Street parking can be hard to find so just park at Shoprite or the other strip mall lot behind the restaurant I got a carne asada entree medium rare and it came out more like medium (and my friend's medium was more medium-well) but other than that the food was great. Some drinks are stronger than others but all really good, and lots of fruity/sweet options if you're like me and need your alcohol to taste like juice. They go all out with a lit up board, a song, and a sombrero for birthday shoutouts so let your server know if you're there to celebrate a birthday! read more

This tequila spot is very cute. I recently stopped in with a few friends prior to seeing a comedy show next door. The food was good and the drinks were even better. Went here with a group of six before a show at Bergen PAC Four stars for fun, lively, attractive atmosphere. One star for vegetarian food. 3 stars for drinks, (although one friend said his margarita was so weak he had to order an extra shot.) Wine pour was okay to generous. They serve a little bowls of complementary seasoned popcorn, but for table of six they gave us about 12 pieces of popcorn. Tables of two got the same amountt??? We had to wait quite a while for our drinks and asked if they serve chips and salsa. Waitress said yes, but we weren't really clear whether it would come with salsa or not. She brought a small basket of chips that was 1/4 filled. I think there were about 12 chips for a table of six. No salsa. There was a good 10 or 15 minute delay from the first dinner being served to the last of the six of us. Warning to all vegetarians. Essentially nothing on the menu so I asked the waitress if they had anything vegetarian and she said yes, they make vegetarian tacos and quesadillas. I ordered the tacos. They served me three tacos with a small scoop of fajita veggies: peppers, onions, and a couple of mushrooms. That's it. No beans, no cilantro, no lime, no jalapeños, no cheese. Just some barely seasoned, oily, cooked veggies. Being a very long time vegetarian, I usually do pretty well in Mexican restaurants. Not here. Will not go back. Even the non veggie friends thought things were weird. read more

We stopped in after a Friday night show at the Bergen PAC located next door for a couple of cocktails before heading home.. Mexcal is located in the heart of downtown Englewood with plenty of parking. It is bar focused first with a list of Mexican bites to round it out ( we didn't eat) On our visit it was dimly lit with a good DJ playing a mix of tunes. Really loved the decor. Very club-like with being too urban. The bartender we had was super cool, friendly , and made us great drinks. He really seemed to enjoy being artistic in the preparation. Loved his margaritas. I heard the chocolate martini was good too. If you like good (call) brands like Patron, Sapphire, etc; expect to pay around $20 per drink. But for the atmosphere, the quality of their drinks, and in this location, I would say that's about right. I saw pictures of it in the daytime and it looked totally different. With wide open french doors, and outside dining, it looks like being at a real, Mexican cantina. I would definitely go back again. read more

The food is good at this place, however they really should include some better sauce with the chips they provide. It is so watery it just doesn't cut it. I ordered the enchiladas and they were delicious, a good amount of spice and some nice chicken cutlets instead of a mix of white and dark meat which you get in most other places. The problem was they didn't include rice and beans with them. I was supposed to order them separately but the waiter didn't tell me this and since I had limited time before I had to go into the show I had to eat it without the rice and beans! The server was great but she was the only one on duty in the whole area. Half the restaurant for only one waiter is ridiculous if you expect to provide great service. The ambiance of the place is great with lots of people enjoying themselves and with some nice music playing. This is a festive place and very nicely decorated with a real Mexican vibe. Really conveniently located at the door to the Bergen Performing arts center. Lots of parking across the tracks and some great tequila drinks. I enjoyed some really spicy pineapple margaritas, they were delicious. Englewood is one great spot to hang out and have a nice evening out. So close to home it makes for a great time without the need to worry about getting back home after a few drinks. read more

My husband and I wanted to try this new spot, so we decided to have dinner at Mexcal. Food is mediocre at best. My hopes were much higher based on the reviews. Ambiance was vibrant, loud, but fun! Fun for group of friends or date night. Service was slow and servers were not attentive. There was a soccer game playing and guests and even the workers seemed to be into it. I don't mind the game and cheering, but service was way too slow. We order an app and 2 entrees, but it all came out once. It took a good 25mins for food to come out. We had to wait 10 minutes for water because our server was nowhere to be found. It was our first and last, don't think we'll go back. I will never go back again. This place skim on amount of food and quality of food. See photos and comment on photos. I went with 5 others and all of us unanimously agree that this place was terrible. The only thing they got going is that they plate their food beautifully. I have never had such bad el pastor tacos in my life before. Every thing including my son's steak fajitas were dry. They give very very little meats. Even the guacamole was barely there. I'm just in shock it could be this place can be this stingy and this bad. Food was fine. Chicken tacos and a burrito bowl. Creative cocktail. BUT waiter took almost 25 minutes to bring our check and it was wrong. We had dined at this restaurant twice before. Both times before a performance at neighboring theater Bergen PAC. The seating was comfortable and atmosphere very pleasant. The food was good the first 2 times (1st time we only ordered appetizers because the server said we wouldn't make our show in time if we ordered meals, based on how full the restaurant was). Last Thursday we made a reservation before seeing Lea Michelle at Bergen PAC. I ordered shrimp fajitas without the tortilla wraps because I enjoy just the vegetables and shrimp. When my dish arrived, it was SWIMMING IN OIL. That completely turned me off. I was only able to eat the top layer that wasn't completely sitting in the oil. The shrimp was ok - disappointed that it served with tails on however. My husband ordered enchiladas which looked good but were pretty tasteless. If he leaves anything over, he always takes it home. He had 3 enchiladas of which he ate 2. The last one he chose not to take home because he just didn't care for it. Looking back, I should have taken my dish back. His dish wasn't awful but it just lacked flavor. Our server was working both sides of the restaurant which of course was crazy to witness. Not once was our water glasses replenished. We could not get his attention to get our bill so that we can leave for the theater which fortunately, was right next door. I thought at one point I caught his eye because he acknowledged with a nod when I gestured that we need our bill. I was mistaken. He grabbed a bill for another table, handed it to the customer and proceeded to go to the other side of the restaurant to tend to those tables. We had a 5:15 pm reservation for a 7:00 pm show. We made it with only :15 to spare because it took so long to get our check. read more

However, the kitchen is extremely slow, my steak was cooked well done, I'll prob still be chewing it tomorrow but despite that the burrito bowl was really good & the grilled octopus was delicious.. the chicken empanadas also a 10/10..... But the drinks babe the drinks...... straight purée, almost to the point it was made my stomach hurt. If they fix their drinks and work on staffing more people the place would be a 10/10. read more
