NJ may be the Garden State, but its fresh seafood is just as important to the state's identity. It isn't just the Jersey Shore serving up fresh catches. The culinary scene in North Jersey is an absolute ocean-to-table powerhouse. For more than five decades, this establishment located on River Drive in Garfield has been a local fixture known for its "warm, friendly atmosphere"' to gather for lunch, dinner, or an easy night out with friends. Destroyed in a 2024 fire, I have returned for lunch on a weekday at DP's Pub and was welcomed by the original outdoor sign restored by an employee. Upon entering this two-story, multi-colored suburban house, I was greeted by the staff and seated at the long bar, which operates on a first-come, first-served basis. The interior was clean, brighter with modern fixtures, green subway tiles, and four flat TV screens for viewing sports. Their limited menu focuses on fresh seafood procured locally as well as poultry, steaks, burgers, and traditional bar appetizers. I decided on the shrimp scampi entree accompanied by a side (steamed vegetables) and a side salad with ranch dressing. Complimentary warm bread was given for the meal. The food was tasty and seasoned well. The price was reasonable and the service was quick. Rachel was the only server who was friendly and attentive. Stopped in today while doing the 2026 Tri-State Stamping Tour with American Legion Post 289 in West Milford, NJ. 158 places across NJ, NY, and PA to support the Veterans and those who support them. This was stop 9 of 158. I have never been here but my bf always told me they're known for their seafood so I was excited to try because we usually go to Biggies. I was majorly disappointed. The good part - they were in fact wicked fresh. The major issue - they were ridiculously gritty. The shells were full of sand ON THE OUTSIDE. So you couldn't slurp them up like you're supposed to. So what's the big deal, use a fork. But you couldn't do THAT because whoever shucks doesn't know you're supposed to cut the muscle and free the clam to float in the shell. So yeah. We had to take a knife or fork and try to pull it out of the shell. Then suffer through the grit. I hate to say it but you can't be known for seafood if you can't shuck a raw clam right. I wish I could have rated this place higher but it genuinely only deserves what I'm rating it, in my opinion. For starters, they only had 1 person working the bar and dining area but I saw 3 other workers who could have been helping out. When we walked in we seated ourselves and weren't asked about drinks for a good 15 minutes. Food was good, I definitely didn't hate it. The menu is smaller than I expected it to be. We got shrimp scampi, hot dog and fries and lobster ravioli. It was good but nothing earth shattering. Unfortunately, We did not get our food until about an hour later. Once our food came we were already wanting to leave because it was just too much waiting. One table actually got up and left shortly after they were seated. I kinda wish we did the same but the food was good. I would give this place another shot at some point but I'm not in a rush to go back. I'm hoping the next time we visit they have more workers so we can feel the full experience of what it could be like dining at this place. read more

A small little dive , local watering hole with really good seafood. We started with oysters that were 2-3 bucks each , not bad at all, fresh, cleaned properly, served with a nice horseradish sauce and lemon. The Marinara served with the muscles was bread soaking worthy, sweet, tangy, a little spice, very good red sauce. Lastly the star of the show, the shrimp scampi, the star being the scampi sauce, I could drink a gallon of it. Get fries to dip in it !!!! This spot is a hidden gem! We came here to watch the World Cup final on a Sunday afternoon. Got seated right away & started off with ordering everything on the menu. I did not have enough time to take pictures of all the food because it was too good to wait to eat. We ordered garlic bread, bbq chicken wings, all the oysters, clams casino, steamers, side of fries, mussels marinara and fried shrimp. Everything was fresh - especially the oysters. You drive by this spot and don't expect this to be a hidden seafood gem! Highly recommend the steamers & cheesy garlic bread - but you really can't go wrong with anything you order. read more

DP's is back with the same neighborhood friendliness as I remembered! Great, hardworking and always super cool staff, menu selections are what I remembered and it just feels, for the most part, that they haven't skipped a beat! Garlic fries are a must. Their sliced steak is good, and I love to get the breaded mushrooms as a starter/side with the steak. Salads still being served in those wooden bowls but, hey, they're new now! lol. Don't forget the seafood dishes - some of what they're known you. Get the scallops! Enjoy this neighborhood favorite! Be prepared to wait and parking is still a challenge. But worth it! read more

DP's will always be a place of nostalgia for me as I have been coming since I was born. So happy to finally be able to try it after reopening. While it's definitely modernized in appearance it still has all the dark bar charm! The wait staff was so friendly and great at making recommendations. My friends and I started with the breaded mushrooms and lobster sliders. Both really hit the spot. I got the sliced steak as my entree with the garlic fry upgrade and it was cooked perfectly. For dessert we got the Tartufo -which can never be bad. I'll be back for sure. read more

Terrible ! Went here for years and after the fire I came back on opening night and it was ok but recently went here and the new staff were terrible ! That older waitress is terrible. She ain't put my table of 4 appetizers in and after we ate our entrees I asked about it and she did t even care. Then we received our fried shrimp which were absolutely horrendous! If you only saw the creature in my half eaten salad, for the staff to not be concerned and simply stating "it happens when you buy salad" as the response as they remove it away from the table. WHAT?! Use caution when ordering. Been going here for over 12 years, which means pre and post restaurant fire. Their cooked food still tastes as good as before, but now I'm unsure if I can eat there without questioning their cooking standards. read more

The service was very nice. Albiet a wee bit slow, but quite acceptable. The place is clean with a long bar along one wall with about 20 seats. Along the other wall are about 10 tables. It's an interesting menu with many options. I thought my cost for baked codfish was on the low side, however, the meal was on the small side. I ordered some garlic fries with the meal and they were mushy and almost tasteless. We had to make a reservation for Saturday night and that was a good thing because the place was full up. I found this spot on IG recently and decided to stop in with a friend. It's a small spot but wasn't overly crowded which was nice ! They don't have toooo many tap options for beer but definitely had a good alcohol selection overall. The food menu isn't too big but we figured the food must be good since they were pumping food out from the kitchen all night . and some regulars were sitting next to us at the bar and said everything is great. I've been going to Patsy's in Patterson for years, same with Landmark in Livingston, etc. I absolutely love those places because not only is the food great but the nostalgic atmosphere really lends lots of the dining experience. Enter DP's pub in Garfield. This place has outstanding food at extremely reasonable prices and a casual, divey atmosphere that really can't be beat. We ordered oysters, mussels, shrimp and crab meat appetizer. Four salads, two orders of scallops, stuffed shrimp, shrimp Parmesan, a bottle of wine and two drinks. The bill was a ridiculous $161. Anywhere else I would've been glad to pay double. This is an outstanding, excellent find that I will absolutely return to as soon as I can. Kudos. read more

Apparently DP's was closed for a while, sold and reopened. Since I hadn't been there in a while I decided to revisit. Not much changed, except now they accept reservations and credit cards. The menu is pretty much the same as always. A nice selection of fresh seafood entrees at very reasonable prices. Bacon wrapped scallops were spectacular! Cajun sea bass over rice was another winner. The portions aren't huge( you could probably eat 2) but neither is the bill. 2 appetizers, 2 entrees and 5 craft beers came to a walloping $82! The place is nothing fancy( think Rutts Hutt for seafood) but definitely takes good care of you. read more

We had a really good experience here ordering a smattering of seafood appetizers, including the Blue Point Oysters, steamed clams, raw clams, mussels, and bacon-wrapped sea scallops. For entrees we got the broiled scallops and the stuffed shrimp. The meal was really good and the beers on the menu were great. The only minor thing I will mention, with the added note that we came here on a Tuesday, was that they could probably use one more person working. The woman running the bar was also running the tables and was the facilitator for the kitchen. The place is small, but if they just had one more person, they'd refill drinks and bring the food faster. You will walk in hungry, you will leave satisfied. You need to keep your expectations realistic and then be pleasantly surprised by your experience. This is a dive with excellent seafood. On a busy day - servers are friendly, but things get hectic, food takes forever, but you can have plenty of time to talk with your table. I prefer to sit at the bar for an early dinner. The house wines are mini bottles of Cavit. The beer is cold. Everything is delicious. They serve some of the freshest oysters you'll ever get for under $3/ea. With every entree comes a salad, your main dish, pasta and bread. You can't beat it! read more

This place is about the food far more than the drinks. When we got there, I went over to the bar to have a quick look at their scotches and bourbons to see if they had anything interesting. Not so much so. If I were them, as a pub, I'd definitely up my booze game - makes it hard to give a higher rating, though they're really more a 3 1/2 than a 3. Also, parking is terrible, I ended up parking a few blocks away. Aside from that, I loved the look and vibe of the place.
